Tracy of New Port Richey FL (02/18/09) Rented xbox 360 game Gears of War 2 on 1/31/09 was due back on the 2/5/2009. Returned the game on 2/7/2009 AND paid a late charge for two days late. I re-rented the game that day and it was due back on 2/12/2009. Returned the game today 2/18/2009 and yet found today I was charged 58.83 for the game with NO warning - it was 6 days late!
The 58.83 went into my account lastnight and has caused my account to go in the negative Lori of Roswell, GA February 15, 2009
Lori of Roswell GA (02/15/09) Twice I returned movies one month late. I was told I would have to pay the full amount of the video and keep it. This was fine with the Batman cartoon for 9 and I took it. The other video, however, was ONE disc out of 4 in a series of Rescue Me. The charge was 65 for 4 out of 13 episodes! I cannot even sell this disc on ebay if I want, as nobody wants only one out of a series. If I pay 65, I expect the entire season of discs.
65 charge for a worthless disc that can't even be resold. Amanda of Greenwood, IN February 13, 2009
Amanda of Greenwood IN (02/13/09) Blockbuster is now charging customers that return movies over 10 days the entire sales price of the movie without notification. I received a collection letter from them and was confused because I had no movies in my possession. I called the store thinking it was an error and they explained even though I returned the movies they were still charging me the full price of the movie because I returned them over the 10 day period. If I came to the store to pay then they would give me the movies.
I have two concerns over this practice. 1. If I had not called my local blockbuster and received the information I would have just paid the collection office. What then happens to the movies since I no longer have them in my possession? It is not stated in the collection letter what the collection is for besides the address of the Blockbuster Store. The only telephone number listed on the letter is for the collection agency.
2. My second concern is that this was the first notification I received regarding the movies I had already returned a min of 30 days ago. That means I didnt even have movies in my possession that I evidently own. Even though I havent paid they would put this on my credit report i assume so I should have at least been notified to pick up the movies an make the payment sooner than this late date. I think this is a major disservice to consumers already struggling in a poor economy and is a deceptive practice when they advertise No Late Fees. This is just another way for them to recoup their late fee losses and I will personally never rent from them again.
I now get to pay 40 bucks for movies that I could have probably bought at my local Walmart for a lot less. Vinci of Los Angeles, CA January 31, 2009
Vinci of Los Angeles CA (01/31/09) I received a call saying that I have an outstanding item that has not yet been returned and that I will be charged the full purhcase price of the DVD. I called back the store and told them that I returned the DVD within days of renting it. I put the DVD in the drop off box as most people would do. The sales associate put me on the phone with the store manager who was the rudest person I've ever talked to and clearly does not care about good customer service. She was defensive and short and actually got mad at me and started yelling at me. I told her I didn't want to be charged for the item because I didn't do anything wrong since I returned it on time. She insisted very rudely that they don't have it in the store so there's nothing she can do.
Furthermore, she said that when I tell her I didn't do anything wrong, I am accusing her of doing something wrong and took offense to that. When I asked her for her full name and the phone number of her superior or coporate offices or anyone else she reports to because I wanted to speak to them, she refused to give me any information and wouldn't even give me her last name. I have never known worst customer service in my life. I've been a very good and loyal customer to BB but I will never give them my business again after this experience. I have never been scolded and yelled at by a store manager and her behavior is completely unacceptable.
I am being forced to pay the full purchase price of a DVD that I do not have in my possession because I returned it to the store on time. Laura of San Diego, CA January 28, 2009
Laura of San Diego CA (01/28/09) I used to be a long time customer of Blockbuster video until I became so unsatisfied with thier customer service, return policies and unorganization when it came to game rentals. I happily switched to Netflex a few years ago. I made the terrible mistake of allowing my son to rent two XBox games last week. My son kept the games 4 days past the due date, understanding he would have to pay the late fee when he took them back on the 4th day. Before he could even return them, I happend to be checking my bank account and to my utter horror Blockbuster was had charged my account 125. Since the transaction was still pending I was told by my bank that all Blockbuster had to do was call the bank and provide the authorization number for the transaction.
I called Blockbuster and not only would they not do it, my request was met with hostility and scarcasim by a young lady who possessed the poorest customer service skills, I've ever encounterd. It's no wonder why they closing their stores left and right and unfortunately for us consumers, we are being taken advantage of financially in order to make up for thier lack of revenue.
I am a single mother and with the economy being as bad as it is, 125 dollars may just as well be 1,025 dollars- I can't afford either. I am now 125 dollars short on rent. If Blockbusters new policy (it may not be new but they have NEVER done this to us before, just because we were a few days late) had been clearly stated and made CLEAR we never would have rented the games at all...but that's the whole point, isn't it? What happened to me is exactly what Blockbuster wanted to happen.
