Denver Broncos

Barbara of Aurora, CO, writes (6/5/01):
I am a Denver Bronco season ticket holder, or was less than 24 hours ago. The second half of my payment for the 2001 season tickets was due by June 1 and proper notice was sent by the Bronco ticket office. However, during a business conference in mid May, I was notified that my sister's house in Killeen, Texas had burned to the ground the week prior, and that due to the trauma she was not doing well.

I frantically cleared things with my work and on May 24, I left in a desperate attempt to assist her in any way possible. I worked, on her behalf, with her insurance agent and various legal advisors towards settling her affairs and trying to establish some type of comfort for my sis.

After a week or more most things were in a document-routing status so I returned to Denver. I arrived home late Monday, June 4, (long after business hours). Monday night,I immediately went through all my mail and messages. At the earliest on Tuesday morning I phoned the Bronco Ticket office to explain my emergency absence and asked if I could make the second half of my season ticket payment over the phone by credit card or drive it in. I was told by the ticket agent that I was too late, they informed me that they had extended the deadline until Monday, June 4, 5 p.m. and that they had made phone calls and sent mail.

I explained again why I wasn't home to receive their calls and that it was only a matter of hours, not days, or weeks that I was trying to make payment. Again I miserably explained the situation and offered to show proof of hotel receipts and confirmation from my sister's insurance agent and the attorney to prove that prior to and on the deadline I was in Texas. I was told, no too late you have lost your season ticket rights" and that I could go on a waiting list OR I could purchase CLUB SEATS for $2,750 each with a $500 deposit.

This totally baffled me. My question then was if it was not too late to purchase 2 seats at $2,750 each plus deposit which would cost me $6,000 plus, then why could they not accept the second half of my payment of $505? I explained that after all I have been a ticket holder for over 15 years and that the cut-off was never this tight. The answer was, "Sorry it's too late, because you were a ticket holder you had a deadline."

Well, as a stakeholder, I find this to be appalling, inconsiderate, and a flat-out screw-you type attitude from this organization. Break the rules for me - no, weigh unforseen circumstances that life presents - yes, exert a bit of humanity - yes. What is the difference in them accepting payment from me for Club Seats verses a payment for season seats which I have already made the first payment on?

First off, my seats were already changed from the first level North stands to the second level South stands in the new stadium without prior notice. The only explanation I received after the new placement was that - well in the new stadium you really don't have any rights to seats because they are not the same ones (seats that is). So I accepted that. But now I plead your urgent attention to this matter. Time is everything because my seats can be given away. This is not right, it doesn't feel good, it's just not right for me to lose my season ticket rights.

The consequences are I have lost 15 years worth of investment. Every year at no cost, I accompany disabled, minority, underprivileged children and adults as well as elderly individuals to the games that they could not otherwise afford to attend. Besides I honestly and wholeheartedly do not feel that because a family crisis which causes an approximate 12-hr payment delay, this organization is valid in wiping out an individual's season ticket rights.

Economically, $6,000 for Club seats is not something I can just pull out of my pocket. I am a common everyday working individual who is not valuable enough to make a difference. Again I beg your urgent attention to this matter in an effort to obtain back my season ticket rights, my current priority number, and the same, but no less than the assigned seats I had before this dilemma.
