BuyMusic.com

Alan of Carrollton GA writes (11/1/03):
Here is a warning for everyone downloading music legit. I bought several songs from BuyMusic.com and downloaded them sucessfully and stored them on my pc and played them when I felt like.

However, what they do not tell you is that there is a hidden license embedded in the song and if you back up the songs in the event of a system crash, you will not be able to play the songs because the license is not compatible with any type of backup.

Like me, I had a crash, no biggie, restored everything all data and music but when I went to play the songs again they said I needed to purchase additional licenses. Below is a copy of the response after I explained to them what happened and that the music will not play until I made an additional purchase.

From: BuyMusic.com Customer Support [support@customerservice.buymusic.com]

Hello Mr. *****, Thank you for writing to us. We are responding regarding your order #********. We apologize for any confusion. Due to license restrictions, we are unable to allow for extra license downloads in the event of a system upgrade or computer crash. In addition, the encryption technology that we use is not intended to be compatible with system backup software. We are also unable to assist if songs have been mistakenly deleted or files become corrupted. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

Now I know why hackers are after this business. From now on I am going to cheer them on and I hope they break it off into the music companies. Hopefully you can publish this. I may be out 15 bucks total but it adds up with thousands of downloads with thousands of users like me. Thanks for your time.
