Erika of Byram MS (01/18/08) I originally made arrangements to update Amsouth with the payment of my 2003 Lexus LS 430 only to have my vehicle picked up before the arrangements were made. I was curious to know the laws of repossession and if they followed proper procedure. I only had 1 1/2 years left remaining on the payment of the vehicle.
My husband and I have now only been left with the use of 1 vehicle and with 4 children, that has been difficult. Also, only later we found out we had more time to get the vehicle because it was not sold until almost a month after repossession. And, personal items were said to be sent to the auction with vehicle that were in the trunk. The tow people said they only cleaned the inside out; but we called a day before to come pick it up, and they said we couldn't because they had church. We found out the next day that that was the day the car was sent to auction.
James of Monson MA (06/13/06) AMSOUTH IS STEALING MY DEAD MOTHER'S MONEY Over a year ago my mother passed away, leaving me as beneficiary of a small account at AmSouth on Roosevelt Blvd in Jacksonville, FL. I went there and presented her death certificate and my ID, and the bank officer told me to wait a while, so that social security could balance the account, since they often pull the last deposit. In the interim I went to Massachusetts for a job. After waiting more than enough time for SS to settle the account, I emailed AmSouth to send the beneficiary check to my Jacksonville address of record, since the post office was forwarding mail.
There was no response. I sent them postal mail and there was no response. I called them, only to be told that the bank officer had left their employ and they cold not find my mother's death certificate and my ID. I sent another death certificate and ID and got no response. I called them and was told I had to collect the small beneficiary account in person. However, the gas and motel bills to and from Florida from Massachusetts, and loss of work income, would be almost as much as the nine hundred dollars in the account. I explained this to them, to no avail. They are just keeping the money that is mine, that my mother wanted me to have.
I then wrote a letter to their state licensing board but nothing was done. I have started the whole round again with another email, but again, there is no reply. I am beginning to think there is some skulduggery involved. I once read that computer crooks will use the accounts of thousands of dead people to shift funds or skim interest, and perhaps my mother's account is one such. I really can't think of what else to do. Travelling to FL to collect or hiring a lawyer would eat up the small funds that are in the account. The whole thing is insane. AmSouth goes across state lines and certainly does bank wire business in other states. It totally mystifies me why I must appear in person to close this small account. They are just a rotten bank.
Micky of Nashville TN (05/28/06) I regularly check my acct online and was running short on funds as I get paid every 2 weeks and needed a few groceries. I decided I could use my Debit card and would accept, (be able to afford) the $30 over draft charge to get me by till payday. All the pending charges were shown as paid except 1 and it showed I had a balance of $7.00. Well, I went to Grocery store and spent $30 for food and the next time I checked my acct they had rearranged the order of how the bills were paid out so that I had acquired 3 separate charges of $30 each.
I had previously printed out the page, so had proof that it showed what was pending and what was paid. I was seeing Red by then and went in and spoke with a bank representative and showed her the paperwork and asked her to explain why they had charged me all the overdraft charges when it clearly showed that what was pending wouldnt have changed a thing. She went into another room to talk to the manager, and came out saying they would call me. I was very angry when she told me they always pay the Larger amount first as they feel it is the most important..I told them it is my decision what is the most important and larger didnt mean better. I told her how dare they manipulate my account to get more overdraft fees.
Well as you can guess they never allowed any of the fees and ignored me. In my travels I spoke with a Employee of Amsouth who came into my place of business w a customer of mine and she said yes they do that to get more fees... I wanted to change my Bank, but figured they are all doing it. Oh, and I had called some of the accts to see when they had put charge through, (so Bank couldnt say the charge just came through) and they had done it immediately and had been paid.
I had to actually go to one of those Payday advance places before my next check since the bank had taken $90 in fees from my acct. Its a revolving horror. And the poorer people who live from paycheck to paycheck are the people hurt the worst.
Larry of Jacksonville FL (07/23/05) On 7/19/05 I stopped in to open an account with AmSouth Bank. Spoke to Gwendolyn Hill in the Glenlea Office. We filled out paperwork for the account, including forms to get checks and an ATM card. However, AFTER she explained to me that a sizeable check from a company with an office in Jacksonville and written on an account in Georgia would be held for AT LEAST 11 days before I would have access to the money, I changed my mind and CANCELLED the account, the checks and the ATM card. I specifically told her to REMOVE ALL MY INFORMATION from her system IMMEDIATELY and COMPLETELY. NOW (starting 7/22/05), I have started receiving mail, checks and an ATM card from AmSouth Bank--although I specifically requested NONE OF THIS. I NEVER opened an account with them.
Anna of Cleveland OH (06/29/05) AmSouth would not close my acct despite my asking them over and over again. I've been in contact with them for a couple of months but to no avail. Each time I call, I get to talk with a different representative who tells me that they will close the acct and forward my money to my mailing address, within, well, ranging from 24 - 48 hrs to 14 days. Nothing of the sort happened as of yet.
Yesterday I called them once again and was told to fax a notarized request which I did but it was ignored. I call later on to verify and the rep. tells me that my acct is still open. I then tried to enroll in their Internet Banking but this might take even longer time and, according to their rules, I could be even rejected. I desperately need this money, as I am trying to pay off one of my bills. If I don't, the contractor to whom I owe it, will start the collection process and my credit will be messed up a big time, only because AmSouth would not release my money. I filed a complaint with BBB, this could take 30 days. I need my money right now. It's absolutely ridiculous.
I need this money to pay off to a contractor. If I don't, they will start a collection process and that will mess up my credit a big time. And only because AmSouth would not release my money.
Susan of Sarasota FL (12/24/04) I was charged $210.00 in non-sufficient funds fees. I went to the ank for an explanation, since I knew I should have had more than enough funds to cover checks and transactions. At the bank I was told it was due to the new Check 21 law, and I had floated funds before they became available. Well, I am very well aware of the check 21 law and made sure I had funds in my account before I wrote checks or used my ATM card. The bank credited my account with $90.00 at that time.
I waited until I got my statement so I had proof my last deposit was credited the day several transactions had gone through. I showed the VP of the branch and another employee my statement. I was then told that an electronic debit for my truck loan had come in at midnight the same day as my deposit. When I questioned that, they quickly decided it was an ATM transaction that put my account in to the negative. I had funds in my acount to cover the loan payment AND the ATM tranaction before either had occurred, PLUS my deposit was credited to my account before any other transactions came in. However, the bank still proceeded to bounce 7 transactions. If the bank was justified why would they credit my account for any of the NSF fees at all?
The bank helped themselves to what would have been the money I needed to use to buy Christmas gifts.
