Citibank's Cards Mysteriously Shut Down

Paula of Carmel Valley CA writes (8/30/02):
I received loans while in law school 1994-97. I have had the loans in deferment since then. I am told they will bill me for interest, but instead they just send me notice of a "loan adjustment" after the date has passed to pay on the interest. This causes the interest to be added to the principle and therefore has greatly increased my loan amount.

Before school I had never had a loan and was very confused about the process. I have trusted them but now I feel that they have taken advantage of my lack of savvy. If I want to have my consumer questions answered all I can go to is the same people I believe may be taking advantage of me. I do not know of a consumer based student loan information resource. Is there such a thing?

They have probably increased my loan by $30,000 by this method.

Some schools try to provide a dollop of consumer education to their students but it's often too little, too late.
