tim of forest hill, MD October 24, 2009 I have been a Citi card member for 17 years ... I have never missed a payment nor carry a balance on any of my 3 citicards ... I received a letter in the mail stating my card would be closed if I did not agree to increase my 25,000 limit card from 15% to 29% ... I called and they would not change my rate back nor give me a reason ... I also have 2 other cards at 4% and 7% ... what is wrong hear? ... the problem is I use my card and pay it off ... so I do not agree to a 29% rate, they will close my account ... again I have a++++ rating and never ever missed a payment Thomas of San Jose, CA October 23, 2009 After having a credit card with Citibank since 1984, they raised my rate to 29.99 with an accept or opt out option only. No explanation. I have been a faithful user of the card and generally don't run any balances. I now have to opt out of my Citi card after so many years with them. Jean of Commerce City, CO October 23, 2009 I have 3 CitiBank credit cards. I use all three for low interest balance transfer cards. I've been a customer for close to 15 years and have always paid on time because I didn't want to lose my low interest rate. CitiBank recently raised the rate on 2 of the 3 cards I have to 29.99% because I did not opt-out in time. I called Citi on 10/11 and was suppose to Opt-out by 9/30. Opting out meant that my card would be closed and my interest rate would stay the same. I called CitiBank and told them they I would rather default on the card and file bankruptcy than pay 29.99%. Even though I've never filed for bankruptcy before, I do realize what bankruptcy means to me and my family. My husband called his credit card companies and found that 2 out 3 of his cards are doing the same thing. I've written every congressperson I can think of to help fix the situation but now-a-days, I have little faith in our congress. Hopefully, something good will come out of this situation. But that will only happen if enough people stand-up for what is right, even if it doesn't help that person personnally. The banks do what they do because they only care about their bottomline . . not the person or that person's family. Damien of New York, NY October 23, 2009 I have been getting repeated alerts on my account. They say that there might be fraud, and freeze my account. Each time they do it, it has been me buying something. Once I bought some clothes for 20, and they froze my account. I had to call them that it was me that was making the purchases. A few months later, they froze my account again saying that there was a high risk to my account. I called in, and they told me the reason why they thought there was high risk is because I hadn't used the account in a few months. I had my account frozen again because I signed up for paypal. I did not even purchase anything. All I did was sign up. I also had my account frozen because I bought a ticket for public transport worth 10. Each and every time they alert me of potential fraud, there was no fraud. I think they have a highly sensitive system, and it makes things highly inconvenient for the customers. I am sick and tired of calling them each time I make a purchase. The worst part is, when there is actually fraud, Citicard does not do anything. I think their customer service is horrible. I went on google to type in Citicard complaints, and this website is the only thing I found. It is sad that they don't even have a complaints department. This just goes to show the disregard they have for their customers. Jeff of League City, TX October 23, 2009 Been a customer for many years and paid on time. Have excellent credit rating.Recently had my credit apr raised to 29.99%. Was given choice to accept or opt out. I have the ability to pay off my balance but believe that citi should be held to the same lending rate standards as anyone else in Texas. robin of Akron, OH October 23, 2009 I received a rate increase letter from Citibank. It states the following Changes, which are raising ALL interest rates to the previous 'default' rate of 29.99%: "Variable APR for purchases is being increased...As of September 15, 2009, this purchase APR is 29.99%"... "The variable APR for default is being increased...As of September 15, 2009, this default APR is 29.99%" "The variable APR for cash advances is being increased...As of September 15, 2009 this cash advance APR is 29.99%" The option is to 'opt-out' which will close the account but leave the rate at 18.99%. I called Citibank. They confirmed that I am not late and there is "no problem" with my account and told me they are "increasing the rates to 29.99% across the board to everyone. I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do." How can the answer from Citibank be true?? On their website homepage they are offering 0% promotional terms!! So, is this an error on their part? Is this gouging? Is it misleading and fraudulent that they advertise '0%' and then increase current customers to 29.99%? Obviously someone who cannot pay off as aggressively will REALLY get hit, I cannot imagine making the 'minimum' payment under this new interest rate. What is this doing to Service people? Students? Elderly? This is gouging. Citibank is acting more like organized crime than an organization. I don't want an attorney to contact 'me' I am requesting that your organization leverage all available resources against practices like this. I have contacted my senator, the FTC and the White House. Everyone who is faced with this letter should do the same. "The squeaky wheel can at least be heard". Thank you. Linda of North Bellmore, NY October 22, 2009 Received a letter stating that my interest rate was being increased to 29.99% on 11/30/09. When I called found out it was for no reason other than that Citibank needs to get some money in there pockets. Didn't we already bail them out? I got this credit card when I was 19, now 20 years later, and maybe 2 late payments by 1-2 days, they are raising my rate. I have always paid off my card in good faith. I always counted on that card when I needed it, but now, it is going to sit in a drawer until it expires and I can cut it up. elisabeth of atlanta, GA October 22, 2009 I have been an excellent customer of citi card for 6 years, always paying more than the minimum due and ALWAYS paying on time. Without telling me, they jacked up my rate (from 3.9%) to almost 26% (25.9%).Then, even though I paid early, they assessed fees of 110 dollars. Moreover, they shut my online paying capacities down and wouldn't let me pay them over the phone. I am now 7 days "late" They have been calling no less than twice a day and sometimes up to 6 times a day. I am trying to pay them via my online banking, but they won't tell me my account number for "seurity reasons. Suzanne of Batavia, NY October 21, 2009 Even though i have never even once been late with a payment, I have received a letter stating that the interest rate on my account is being raised to 29.9%! My choices are to pay this loan shark interest rate or close my account. This is an insulting way to treat a customer who has been loyal and timely in making payments Tom of 1150 Pacific Pointe Way, CA October 21, 2009 Like others, I recieved the letter in the mail announcing the new 30% interest rate. What I don't understand is how Citicards (and their parent company, whomever made this decision), doesn't seem to realize how INSULTING this is. Yes they have the right to do something like this, and I will be closing down this card and getting a fixed rate credit card through my local credit union. When I have work hard lately to pay off my balance regularly and pay on time, for them to give me a rate that is equal to a default rate is just plain REDICULOUS! GOODBYE and GOOD RIDANCE to CitiCards! Report Your Experience
