Christopher of Correctionville, IA November 4, 2009 I have been a cardholder in good standing since 2004. I have had my ups and downs with them but always in good standing.I have even recommended them to others over Capital One etc.. 6 months ago I negotiated my APR down ton 9.24%APR. I have been in perfect standing and even almost paid off my card. Like most people I got a letter stating that my interest rate was to go to 14% due to the economic times. That is total bull that when times get tough, they pull all in for themselves. Total crap, I opted out to pay down the rest, but I would like to keep my acct open to not hurt my credit. It's so frustrating, I will never recommend them again to anyone. America needs to get off the credit card t*t and go straight. If you can't pay cash, then you can't afford it. Helen of Oklahoma City, OK November 4, 2009 I have had a credit card with them for years and have never made a late payment, always paid more than the minimum and spend on it regularly. I got a letter in the mail stating my interest rate will be changing from 8% to 29.99% on future purchases and my current balance of 5500. The only way to avoid it is to opt out and close my account which will hurt my credit. Jill of Saint Louis, MO November 2, 2009 I have been a loyal customer of Citicards since early 1997. My credit score is in the 700's and I have NEVER had a late payment. I received a letter stating my interest rate was going from 12.24% to 29.99% on November 30, 2009. I do have the option to opt out and pay off my balance under the current terms, but that closes my account. I am SOOO upset about this. This is how banks are treating loyal customers ?? It's unreal. I could not afford a minimum payment that is based on 29.99%, so I've had to opt out. Now I have a 5 digit balance to pay off, and I lose all of my spending privileges. Elaine of erwin, NC November 2, 2009 i feel cit is trying to rip my family off in many ways. first of all we were charge a 12,5 interest rate back in 1996 and we had good credit 8 A-1 credits. we are still being charge that our payment has not change. it just appeared to change a little this year but i keep getting statements with one amount then a balance of another. we were told we lack on insurance back in 2004 and 05. six years later it was brought to our attention and we contacted them to let them know we have insurance so they told us we weren't being charge. assurants which is the insurance company that supposely be the one who took out the policy said they never took out a policy on us but yet we were being charge. i let assurance and cit know that they were being recorded. we did a three way. cit stated they knew nothing of said insurance yet i'm still being charge. i get so many different bills. just last month i recieve a bill saying we owe 880.00. i sent 300.00 so it should have been 580.00. they took off the 77.38 cents they said we owe in insurance. granted i all ready had insurance. i paying two insurances i recieve in the same month. last month which is october a bill after the 880.00 for 2,229. a couple days later a bill for 2,805. they said that my balance should be 51,005.62 but yet it keep going back to the orginial 52,275. then the last one 51,162.65 i ask for my money back because they were charging me for insurance. i already have cit told me and assurant that they don't give back money. they apply it toward the princibal and i told her that was elegal after i thought about how can you take my money and do what you wish, i found out there were other refunds we had from insurance that they claim they applied to prinicbal and yet our balance never went down. i've tried to resolve this issue but they keep uping my mortage and saying i owe them for insurance and i recorded the conversation. how can i get help on the issue. assuranct ask if they could send me a copy of my mortgage. sense day one when i purchase home they said sure and i haven't recieve anything but larger bills. when we purchase the house we paid for that whole year of 1997. we recieve a letter saying we owe them 5,215.00 almost a whole year of payments and was threating us that we were going to have to get out. we had no other choice but to pay because our vehicle was destroy and had certain documents i realize. what mortgage company will let you go a whole year without paying your mortgage. i'm going to fine that receipt one way or thee other because they took my family through some changes. can you help us out. they are cheaping us. now i fine the are going under. is this why they place this hardship on my family. Danye of Morrison, IL November 2, 2009 Continued to Raise interest rate for no reason, from 6.99 to 14.99, over a 6 month period. my balance from july to november was reduced 54.32 even though i paid 400.00 over that period towards my balance. i have not used my card for several months other than a 30.73 purchase. my credit rating is 750 and ive never been late on a payment, I almost alway s send more than the minimum payment. I am trying to be rosponsible and pay my credit card off, but these thieves make it almost impossible in these hard economic times. i can not catch up on my obligatio at this rate of doing bussiness. i believe they should not get off in bankrupcy when they are robbing good responsible citizens. Cheryl of South Houston, TX November 2, 2009 I had a Sears credit card which was not originally issued by Citicard but during the course of time, Citicard took over. At some point, I stopped using the card and told them I wished to close the account and started paying them off. After Hurricane Ike and the months following, I felt the budget become very tight and attempted to keep up on all payments in good faith. As the balance got to just a few hundred dollars and I was in sight of paying the account off, I paid the account just one time late and it snowballed into a disaster with late fees and an APR rate of 29.90 percent. There are continous phones calls. They would send letters by mail and once even sent an overnighted letter asking me to contact them at specific phones numbers. They said they would work on a payment plan for the small balance to avoid costly fees. These phone numbers never worked. Nor did the phone numbers on the statements other than the regular customer service. I talked to them and asked them about a payment plan to pay off the very small balance of less than 250.00 but the fees have skyrocketed the balance and they are intent on collecting all the fees and the 29.90 APR increased. My sister cares for my 76 year old mother with a heart condition and despite her request that they stop calling her home phone. Her home phone is not my contact number but they indicated they would continue to call and harass my family. I even gave them my e-mail address and even appealed to Sears to see if they could intervene to stop the harassment. They were not very sympathethic or concerned that Citicard was treating their customers, now former customer, in such a terrible way. Even to the extent to harass a sick elderly lady. the adverse situation with Citicard has caused stress not only to me but to my mother who has a heart condition and her cardiologist is outraged. Now, all the cards I issued by Citicard has sent me letters raising my APR rate to 29.90% despite the good payment history. I hated to lose one of those cards as it is with an electronics store but in the worsening economy when it is harder to buy food and gas even, it is better that we stop using credit cards and go back to paying cash. Now look at the headlines today, CIT Group has filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy despite a huge bail-out. Thomas of Ashburn, VA November 2, 2009 I too received a letter from Citicards recently informing me of the interest rate increase from 19.99% to 29.99%, either accepting those terms or opt out. I called them and asked to speak with a manager, she said that the ONLY other thing I could do is to turn the current balance into a loan with the current 19.99% interest rate!!!??? Are you kidding? A new loan is all I want. I told them repeatedly that this letter is highly unacceptable and in VERY poor practice. Oh, they did say that this interest rate increase was to be able to give credit to other consumers,...so now I have to pay for someone else to have credit? Where are the lawmakers in all this? Who is getting more of my money? WHO WILL DO SOMEHTING ABOUT THESE COMPANIES INCREASING THEIR RATES AND NOT STOPPING? This makes me want to just stop paying them. susan of Enumclaw, WA November 1, 2009 December 2008 I transfered mileage from my mother's acct to mine, there was no fee to do this, Delta airlines accidentally charged me a fee. I did not know Delta did this, I thought it was Citicard, so I called Citicard to find out what the charge was for, but the customer service person did not even know what the charge was and said I purchased something out of the US. I told her I have not left the US and she said well I do not know what the charge is and would not remove the charge. Then in Feb. 2009 I got an email from Delta apologizing for their error. I then called Citicard again but they would do nothing to help me by removing the unneccesary charge from my acct. I did not pay it since it was in error. I wrote a letter twice to S. L including the email from Delta saying the charge was in error, but it has ended up being a waste of time. One of the responses I got back from S. L was so off the subject I wondered why she bothered to response back to me. You would think upon receiving proof that the charge was in error that Citicard would be reasonable, however that was not the response. I started out trying to solve this mess before it got out of hand right after it happened, then shortly afterwards I had some major health problems and could not continue with trying to fix this. In September when I was able to start trying again to fix this I wrote to a Terry D in New York hoping someone would be reasonable. She never even acknowledge my letter. So here I am still trying to fix this mess before the finance charges on 4.50 end up being straight out more crazy than they are. I have always paid my balance in full and I do not like having finance charges that have no reason in being there in the first place. I do feel Citicard is stubborn and uncaring and really does not want to solve this unless forced to. Which is really sad on their part. I certainly hope this does some good, it has gone on long enough and I do not know what else to do. I would like to change credit cards, but this needs to be solved first. I have no respect for Citicard or the people who work for them. Thank you. Karen of Suffolk, VA October 31, 2009 I recently received a letter from CITICARD informing me that the interest rate on my card would be increasing to 29.99% beginning November 1, 2009. I am not in default and there is no reason for the increase. The increase on my card will pose increased hardship and possibly the inability to continue making payments. Karen of Aberdeen, WA October 30, 2009 I am one of thousands that had a Shell Mastercard and was sent a letter by Citi that my account was closed. I had my account for almost 10 years and never missed a payment. Report Your Experience
