This Chesapeake, Va., company sells TVs and computers for thousands more than their actual value. On top of that, they also sell jewelry. Their scheme is very similar to Blue Hippo, profiled in a ConsumerAffairs.com investigative series.
Virginia consumer protection officials have received "several hundred complaints" about them and the Better Business Bureau has even more, state officials told us. And what do the company's customers say?

Michelle of Elk Grove CA (05/18/08) I applied for a laptop computer on-line 5-1-07 after seeing a comercial about it on tv. They had a form for customers to fill out which collected all of my personal information such as my name, address, phone number, email address, banking information and social security number. I received an e-mial comfirmation later on that night saying my application had been submitted and a few days later i received some papers in the mail regarding my authorization allowing the company to draft my account for 199.25 starting July 1,2007 for a 12-month period and they needed a voided check or a deposit slip in order to start the process so I Faxed it to them and i mailed the form by mail.
I had to pay three faithful months before they sent the computer to me and i did just that. October 2007 is when I received a verification form in the mail about fufilling a revolving account plan, i entered the information on the form they requested, I faxed it back and waited for my laptop to be delivered to me.
October is when I was able to communicate with this company effectively before all of the phone lines were disconnected or they stayed busy. Financing Alternatives stopped taking payments from me November 2007, I couldn't talk to them by phone so I sent e-mails and faxes-still I received no response. When January 2008 came around, I went to my banking instution (Safe Credit Union) where I placed a stop payment on this transaction however i still haven't gotten a refund from the company Financing Alternatives. I have also contacted CBS 13 News Call Kirtis Hotline, no sucess. I now suffer headachs from stress, loss of appetite and loss of happiness. I have lost a total of $797.00 from Financing Alternatives.
Antania of Waukegan IL (05/06/08) I ordered a computer through the company about 2 years ago and they were taking the money directly from my bank account. I tried to cancel the order and asked for a refund they told me that no refunds where aloud and that they would just send a web cam with my computer. I end up having $500.00 deduced from my account everytime I tried to contact them the lines where busy or had long hold times.
I still have not recieved my computer and I am out of $500.00. I really needed the computer. But now I don't have the computer or $500.00 that I waisted on nothing. I was trying to find their phone number when I came across this site. Is someone going to be able to help me with getting my money back?
By them taking the payments out of my account even when I didn't have the money to give sometimes. I end up having consent over draft fees. But no one would answer there phones for me to explain that they needed to stop the with drawals. They told me after 3 with drawals I would receive my computer but I never got it.
Charles of Brooklyn NY (04/28/08) I have payed over $ 700.00 for a laptop computer and I have not received any infomation anymore. this money was deducted derictly from my bank account.

Sarah of York AL (04/14/08) i planned to put a computer on layaway, when i recieved the paper i didnt send it back because it stated i need to send a voided check, since i didnt at that praticular time i thought i had nothing to worry about, after a few months my checks started bouncing at the bank when i thought it was covered come to find out they had been drafting payments from my account,
i called them and they (a female)said i had to send the voided check in first before they could give me any information, i did that, then i was told i had to send a letter in stating to stop drafting activity on my acct., then i asked if i could get a refund and was told i couldnt if i did it had to go through arbitration, they sent the paperwork but it would cost me just as much or more than what i was trying to get them to refund me and felt that it wasnt worth it, i had no idea there was a suit against them i was just browsing to see if i could get them to send me something in place of my money.
i had to pay for insufficient funds at my bank because of their drafting thinking that the money was there and that in turn threw other bills behind
Patrick of Ventura CA (04/14/08) i paid for a year spending over $1,500 and they didnt give m ethier new number or contact after confirming any arrangements for the shipment for the computer its been like 2 yrs allready and nothing. i tried to give them my address change also but there was no one there

Asheley of Vernon VT (03/21/08) I saw an ad on television about buying a computer and contacted the 800 # to find out more details, at which time I spoke to an operator that explained that information would be arriving in the mail. I was instructed to fill out the form and begin making the payments, after which time I would receive my brand new custom designed Dell laptop by special delivery. After paying $2000, nothing arrived and I've not been able to contact Financing Alternatives by phone or e-mail.
I was preparing to work from home with my new computer, and I still have no decent job to speak of--and no computer. I've had to move out of my former address due to me literally squandering my finances on a pipe dream. Is there anyway I can recoup my losses?
Alex of Bridgeport CT (03/15/08) On 9/18/2006, I ordered a laptop worth $2,391.48. I paid $1747.62 until 7/15/07 when they stopped taking money out of my account, but during that time I called them to see when I will receive the laptop. They told me in months but still nothing. I kept calling but no answer, no one picked up the phone, so I guess I got scammed, I wasted money for nothing. What can I do?
Adonnius of Markham IL (03/13/08) I have been paying on a computer that I haven't received in over 2 yrs. They had told me it was because I paid some late, and my payments will start again with three months, but it will be added together. My family and I been through a fire, and we don't have much; but I knew I was paying this. We still are waiting, and I don't have a computer. I paid almost $2000, and I have my papers. They had my bank account number. Please help me . We need help.
We now have to find a way to get a computer. We have 4 kids.
Jeanette of Tobyhanna PA (03/05/08) I purchased a computer that was advertise on a t.v.commercial that displayed about F.A.I. It specifically displayed or was told on TV, we will take customers with bad credit; a job, and a bank account, with 3 easy payments. So,after that commercial, I was encouraged. I called F.A.I. and from the conversation on the phone we discussed an arrangement of a 3 months set up of payments and then F.A.I. would ship the computer after 3 consecutive payments to my house.
However, I missed a payment with F.A.I. so I called F.A.I. about the missed payment, and from the conversation with F.A.I. I was told the 3 payment had to be consecutive; so I had to make them consecutive in order for my computer order for the computer to go through or to arrived at my residence. So, I continued discussing the payment plan with F.A.I. and asked F.A.I. If I could pay them in a lump sum. I also asked If I would receive the computer in a timely date. F.A.I. said yes. So, I then paid the lump sum of 81.98 dollars of three months of consecutive payments with the expectation of the computer being delivered by Christmas. However, I have not seen the computer I'm suppose to have received from F.AI. Although F.A.I. was still taking money out of my account. F.A.I., took money from my account until F.A.I. reached the amount of total balance which was $2,049.50. Conclusively, I'm very devastated by F.A.I.'s business affairs that I hope to be reimbursed either my computer or my money back.
I have been physically drained by this matter, because I sacrifice that money for the computer for the sake of my 4 children who needed the computer for school. I also sacrificed not paying a bill or two, for the computer we never recieved, which put us in a set back financially. However, I feel terribly embarrassed behind this experience and I hope to never involve in any businesses that is selling anything on t.v. or computers again unless I have confidence that the company I'm dealing with is known from a store who has computers available.
Farrah of Port Richey FL (03/04/08) I am a former customer of Financing Alternatives. I have received 2 letters in the last 2 months signed by Mrs. Christian, from an attorney's office requesting payment for the outstanding balance on my account. Is this allowed being that their business has been shut down and all assets frozen? I'm not sure if anyone is aware that Mrs. Christian has a company currently contacting former customers to try to get money. Who can I report this to?
Veronica of Houston TX (02/20/08) In 2006 I ordered a computer. I talked to an operator who took all my information including social security number--all that was needed to ship the product. They also needed my bank account information to withdraw $125 payments every two weeks. Sometimes they took out more. I still have not received most of my order, not even a scanner. They only sent me a web cam. When I paid my last payment they had the nerve to send a payment receipt of what I had paid and what was left to pay.
When I called them several times, they told me the same excuses--there's been a delay, and they will inform me later. I waited for a good long while and didn't call, and they didn't call or send me a letter. When I called again, the operator didn't come to the phone--just a computer message saying the operator would be with me.
Now it's 2008, and I still haven't heard anything from them. I paid out over $1000 for nothing. I'm still stressed about all that money and that they have all my personal information. I can't afford an attorney. Please help me. I need my money back if I'm not going to get my computer. Thank you for letting me tell my complaint.
Lillian of Beacon NY (02/20/08) I wanted to purchase a new computer for my kids. I was so excited. The person on the phone made me feel good about my purchase. I was promised a free cell phone and never got it. They were taking taking money out of my checking account every week, and this has been going on since 3/2007; and I have not received my computer or cell phone. I've tried to contact them by phone or the web site and had no luck in doing so. Can you please help me?
My checking account was over drawn. I would have to work to work extra to make payments, and the kids kept asking when was the computer going to be delivered. I really felt bad and ashamed because I thought I was doing something great, It really made me embarrassed, The kids were very happy, and they were telling all their friends; and it was like a shattered dream.
Sonya of Dallas TX (02/17/08) They advertised that they will send you a computer if you have less than perfect credit. All you need to do is make payment, and within three months of the first consecutive payment being made you will receive the computer. I finish paying for the computer in May 2007 and was told that there was a 120-day backlog with the shipment of the computers. To date I still have not received the computer, and the company has gone out of business and the website is under construction.
Jeannie of Oxnard CA (02/15/08) I saw an ad on TV about how you can easily get a computer. I contacted them and had a computer put on layaway costing $2131.48. A weekly payment of $81.98 was automatically taken out every week from my checking account. When I did not receive the computer on the date they told me I would receive it, I contacted them again. They reassured me and told me it will take a couple more months due to shipping issues. I made additional payments hoping to pay it off as soon as I could because I needed it for school. I had upgraded the screen to a flat screen paying an additional 4-5 hundred dollars.
I tried contacting them again when my order was paid off and but their number does not work. I tried emailing them but I got the email back. I had a legal representative send them a letter requesting a refund due to breach of agreement but the letter came back. I had paid off my order on April 12th of 2007. It is almost a year and I still have not found a way to resolve this situation. I spent over $2500.00 on nothing. I am a struggling student trying to make ends meet. I had to borrow money and go buy a new computer because I really need it for school. I still don't know how to get a hold of the company or how to get a refund on my money. I still have the contract I signed with the company and some paperwork they sent me.
I had to go borrow money to pay for a new computer for school. It made me go into even deeper debt.
Princeanna of Dawson GA (02/13/08) I purchased a computer with this company and never got the computer. I have made several attempts to contact them, but every time that I call I never get a representative. They took money out of the church checking account that I attend. My church needed a new computer and when I saw the ad on TV, I thought that it was a good company and reasonable. When we had paid for the computer, they said that we will be receiving the computer but we never did. But when I called to see what was the hold up on the computer, they said that the computer needed to be upgraded and that they had to build it and that it was a delay on the shipping and they said to look for the computer in a few day between 3 months. I never saw the computer and they took about $1200.00 out of my church checking account.
We are not a large congregation and we have to use what we have in our account to make payments on certain things, but because if this company we have been struggling to add more and more to keep things functional and operating the ministry.
Vanessa of Chicago Ridge IL (02/11/08) I have purchased a laptop from Financing Alternatives. Luckily, I did receive my computer in late November I got a cheap computer with high price. I feel that I was cheated. Now I get a letter for Bowan Green & Kelly, a law firm whose is representing Michele Christian, whose is the wife of the owner of Financing Alternative, Inc. I still owe them more money. I got a call from another company, who is collecting the debt. When I call I get an answering machine. I don't feel right about this, so when I did get a live person name (Lisa), she stated that I still owe. A week, later I have a withdrawal from my account for amount of $35.99. I went to my bank and asked what this transaction was. The banker did a research on my account and found out there was paper draft in form of check made out to Michele Christian, and she cash the check. So I had the bank close my account. So be aware!
I feel that I was ripped off on this computer, with the price I have to pay. I probably could have gotten three computers with this price.
Carolyn of Glen Burnie MD (02/08/08) 3 years ago I put a computer on layaway with Financing Alternative and when I did not receive my computer on the date they said, they would tell me that their computers were down and it would delay it. I missed one payment and they said they had to give my computer to someone else and start over rebuilding it the way I ordered it. This kept on for months the same excuse why I did not receive it. I am very unhappy about this and I wish I and everyone else could get their money back. We work hard for our money and we put trust in this company and the employees in it.
I have hardly any money now to make the payments for the computer took all the money I spent and I have nothing to show for it. I spent over $3,000.00 because every time it was delayed they would offer some other addition to add to the computer with a $250.00 off certificate.
Jesse of San Jose CA (02/07/08) My story is my computer was never sent. I've been keeping up with the attorney general's lawsuit on the internet; so far nothing. I'm confident that the right thing will happen, but I did notice in the news story how his wife destroyed evidence. Well I have my hard copy as far as what payments have been taken out of my checking account. If there's ANY reimbursement please e-mail me or please e-mail me to know whats going on as this case continues....If you need a copy of my records to help out, let me know and good luck on this law case.
I just want my money back or a $2,000.00 computer with a printer. Thank you.
Karen of Mescalero NM (02/06/08) I needed a computer so I dialed the number that was shown on TV. Don't recall the name of the person I spoke with. Gave them all the info that they needed, address, account #. They started deducting $71.78 every two weeks since December of 2006. I tried calling them a few times, but the numbers have been disconnected. I still don't have my computer. I have bank statements to back this up.
Jackie of Cudahy WI (02/04/08) We ordered a computer so that our daughter could do her college homework and papers. We were told that after making 3 months of payments we would receive the computer. I called them 3 mos. and 1 day later to find out where my computer was. I was told that some parts were back ordered. I called every week until finally in August, when my daughter was to start school I called and got the same runaround. I started crying and told this person the situation and asked why I they couldn't keep up the part of the signed agreement when I had kept my part, never missing a payment. I was told they would look into the problem and call me back. I did not get a call back after 3 days and called them every work day for a week and finally asked for the owner/CEO's name. They asked for what reason and I told them that I planned to connect the better business bureau of Wisconsin and Virginia.
I received a call back later that day and was told my computer would arrive start arriving within a week. Sure enough, within 1 week I started to receive my computer. This was 10 mos. after I signed up, I only had 2 payments to go. I would never deal with them again. Now, if my computer breaks down I'll have to go directly Dell, which is the only place I can get my ink cartridges and was never told this. I thought I was getting a Gateway! Live and learn.
Alven of Aurora CO (01/27/08) I badly needed a new computer, so I tried to finances with financing alternatives, Inc. After several payments, my computer was not send when it supposed to be shipped. I called and suddenly the agreement was changed.
I tried to get them to stop taking money from my checking because I knew my computer would not arrive. I had to close my checking account because the bank could not stop payments. My checking account is overdrawn and interest growing.
Barbara of Cruz Bay OTHER (01/24/08) I signed up for a PC with Finance Alternative inc. Money is coming out of my account and I have yet to receive my computer. It's been over six months. Also the website PC for all is currently down.
I was depending on it to finish my online courses and now I am in default.
Frances of Phoeinix AZ (01/21/08) I called FAI because I saw them on TV so I called for a computer. I am a single person and was trying to get my real estate license, so I needed a computer to study. I sent the first 3 months like they wanted and by the end of 2007 I still have yet to receive a computer.
I paid a total of about $2000 and never received a thing. I am so frustrated and could not work due to anger. My boss understood and tried to help and then found out that the company closed.
Rarquita of Rockford IL (01/21/08) I attempted to purchase a computer from them back on 09/2006. I made payments as agreed from my checking acct. I paid a little over $540.00 which supposedly meets the fullfillment phase. I still never received a computer or anything else. I requested my money back since they did not fulfill their promises, and was told they don't give refunds, however if I wanted to later on, I could start the contract up again and the money I have in layaway would still be there to go towards another purchase. Now here it is 1/20/08, I have a computer but I want to use my credit from them for a printer or camera because I cannot afford to pay it all at once, nor do I have the credit to do so. Now I find out my suspicions from the beginning were true.
I have lost $540.00 that could have been used for something else, like BILLS!
Angela of Decatur IL (01/16/08) I had stared payments and the last payment I made was 6/15/2007. I had asked for my money to be refunded because I had lost my job. the lady told me that they couldn't do that, but they hold my money I had paid so far until I wanted to start back up. Now I want to start back up, but I cannot get through on the phone. I even tried to email them twice and still no response from the company at all.
I have no computer and I have no money.
Lee of New York NY (01/10/08) I financed a computer with financing alternatives and paid every payment in full extracted from my bank acct. Now today when I get home I receive a letter from Bowman Green Hampton & Kelly PLLC Attorneys and Counselors at Law stating that As of October 4, 2007 that my account (no number) with Financing Alternatives, Inc has been assigned to Michele A. Christian. The security agreement securing my account has also been assigned to her and that all payments must be made to her and that failure to make payments as requested by this notice may mean that I will not receive proper credit from them. I've been trying to reach FAI for months and all of their customer care numbers are either disconnected or tell you to call again later which you hear 24 hrs a day. My emails to them also went unanswered and now I have this Law Firm harrasing me and I have bank statements that prove I owe them nothing
Jonathan of Los Angeles CA (01/10/08) I Contacted FAI because I saw a Chance to get a computer within three months with a payment of $87.90 every two weeks from my checking account. I really don't have a lot of money, nor do I get enough income to support myself. But I knew If I get a computer it will help my chances of getting more income, through online schooling. For four months I paid on time, never miss a payment or late with a payment because I knew I will have to start all over.
Well after contacting FAI, for over two weeks, I could not get a response through mail or telephone. Then I started thinking that the company was just a scam. I didn't lose over a thousand dollars like some people, but I almost $900.00, it really hurt just as much as losing thousands of dollars.
Glenn of Council ID (01/10/08) I saw the ad on TV for a computer that would help me build my credit, so I paid a down payment and $71.98 was taken out of my bank account every other week. I've paid about $1500.00 and they said there was a shipment problem so it would be another 30 days before it is shipped, however it never happend. When my wife made an attempt to call them, the account number was invalid and even using my SS#, same address on the invoice but they had no record of me at all. One lady said because I never finished paying for it, I probally was sent to the collection department. Now my wife is mad because they got our money and we got no computer, how on earth can this be? Our account was closed and we did some searching only to find we'd been scamed. They have betrayed our trust to the tv world, taken very personal information that could effect me for the rest of my life.
Vickie of Amarillo TX (01/07/08) I ordered a computer from this company spending around $2000. I was promised a computer and everything that goes with it and have never received it. After trying to get in touch with them and finding that the websites are under construction and the phone lines are not working, I have now found out that I have been scammed. I would like to know what I need to do in order to try to receive my refund.
I paid my computer off in full, and still I have nothing.
Connie of Boulder Creek CA (01/04/08) This company automatically deducted from my personal checking account each and every week a sum of $35.99 (almost $2000.00 dollars) for a computer that I still have not recieved. I started when I saw a commercial on TV for a new PC that would even inprove my credit, so I called and talked to a very nice lady. She gave me all the info and it seemed like a very good thing. So on 10/15/06 they sent me my contract, which I signed and mailed back to them. I called them many times to find out when they were going to send me my pc, and they said that it was being built for me and I would get it before Christmas. Well, it's now Jan 3rd and still no PC .I told my friend about it and she found out that it was a scam. I hope you can help me as I could really use the money they took from me.
I am a single mother living below the poverty line. I currently am homeless and some of the automatic deductions resulted in overdrafting my checking account. This resulted in a chain reaction in overdraft fees and hence my not having either a home or a computer is hand. I feel so violated, so stupid. I was simply trying to do something for myself and my son in purchasing the product I will never see. I want justice!
Juanita of Asheville NC (01/03/08) I ordered a laptop with $600 worth of software. I paid $2300 since November 2005 and to date I haven't received the merchandise nor a true explanation of what is really going on. The times I got through to the phone number, I was promised in 90 days. Another time I was promised 120 days. Now I can't even get in touch with anyone and I have sent threatening letters with cc to an attorney, but got no response nor reimbursement.
I would appreciate reimbursement of my money along with compensation for mental anquish and economic hardship.
Saran of Toledo OH (01/02/08) I purchased a computer from Financing Alternatives Jan. 2006. They have taken monthly payments ($129.00). After numerous phone calls, I was always assured my computer was on the way. It is now 2008, and I do not have a computer ;and no one answers phone calls anymore. That's why I started looking online for them and came across this site.
In regards to the scam, who can I contact to ask about getting my money refunded? Thank you for supplying this to the consumers; and please, if you can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you and have a good day.
I am a college student, and my Mary Kay business suffered to a point of no return. I needed to drop out of college until the next semester because I was unable to keep up with online classes and a full-time job.
Peter of Brooklyn NY (01/01/08) I placed a Layaway Plan on 8/16/2006 and paid a total of $1,871.48; and I finished my last payment in September, but never received the computer. I have made several attempts to call, and no one answers, or the phone rings busy all the time.
I am now in the hole for nearly $1,900.00 and no computer.
Sylvia of Chicago IL (12/31/07) I purchased a PC back in April of 2004 for a little over $1800.00. They took payments out of my account, but I never received an invoice for any of my payments. After a year passed, I contacted the company and told them how much I had paid and asked when would I receive my merchandise. They stated I missed a payment, and I would have to start over. By this time I was infuriated.
Another year passed, and I called them and said: You either refund my money or give me something for the amount of money I had already paid. I paid a total of $1351.25. They informed me they would replace the order with a flat screen TV package, and I would only owe $25.00. I took that agreement; and it is now 12/2007, 3 years after my first payment, and I have not received any merchandise. I need an attorney, and I need one now because I am not going out without all my money--besides the time I've spent.
I have not recieved any re-payment or merchandise. It has been 3 yrs and it was supposed to be a 12month program. I need to be compensated for my money, time and frustration.
Stephanie of Howell MI (12/25/07) I am trying to find out the outcome of this case. I haven't received any information. If at all possible, can you please e-mail me and let me know whether or not I will receive my money back?
I am stressed about this whole situation and would like to know whether or not I will receive my $1871.48 back any time soon.
Aishah of Hayward CA (12/24/07) I purchased a $2500 Computer on agreement of financing of automatic payments of $155 to be withdrawn from my checking account on the sixth of each month beginning on 11/2006. The payments have continuously been withdrawn on time, and the balance is paid in full. I have yet to receive my small business equipment which consists of the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and Laser printer (all Dell products). I was lucky enough to get a CS - rep back in Sept. of 2007 who told me that I would need to pay for the equipment in full before receiving the equipment. That was not the original agreement. I was to pay $400 in order to receive my equipment, and the remaining balance would be financed as stated above. I requested a refund of the amount I had paid which at that time was $975. I was told that if I did not choose to purchase the order I would not qualify for a refund. I accepted the order to continue, and money continued to be withdrawn from my bank account. As of 12/24/2007 I have not received the equipment, and my balance is paid in full.
Their phone is now disconnected. I have not received another invoice so I know the account is paid in full. It has been over a year, and they stole $2500 from my checking account. I would like my equipment plus compensation--or a refund in full.
Patunga of Jersey City NJ (12/22/07) I was financing a computer through this company, and I never received it. Every time I tried to call about the computer, I never got any answer at the phone number that is on my billing statement.
I am out of over a thousand dollars.
Florence of Cleveland OH (12/20/07) I started paying for a computer and printer from the above company in February of 2007. I made 15 payments and till this day I have never gotten my computer or printer. It is a pity that this company can rip people off like this and get away with it. All I need is my money back please, this computer was meant for my children in Africa.
I labored and denied myself of things I could have used my money for. With the money I paid down, I could have got my kids their computer.
David & Tammy of Center TX (12/18/07) My husband and I ordered a computer from Financing Alternatives back in Sept. 2006 and we paid $1871.48 and the last payment was August 7, 2007. We paid $35.99 weekly bank draft from our checking account and they was suppose to send our computer in June of 2007, but we never received it. We called them but just kept getting a busy signal. We tried to contact them by computer but never could get a reply. Eventually their Web sight went under construction, so I called the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint. All I want back is our hard earned money. We don't have money to just give away.
We have been in emotional turmoil over this huge amount of money they have just taken away from us and we disappointed our children because they truly were looking forward to getting that computer and so were we. Not to mention the money we could have used for other things.
Lenier of Edgard LA (12/13/07) When I first applied for a pc with Financing Alternative they told me that my payment would be automatically drafted from my account bi-weekly, so I deposited $71.98 every time I was paid. They also told me that if I make the first 6 payments with no problems that they would start sending my merchandise. When I made 6 payments on my merchandise they told me that I would have to wait two months before my pc could reach my home because of delivery.
I never received anything so I stopped making the payment. I have tried several times to contact them, and the number that was assigned to them always says that the number is no longer in service or the long distance network is busy. I have even tried reaching them from several different cell phones but got no answer. I wanted to know what was going on with the pc. I first started dealing with them in the beginning of April in 2006, and now it is December of 2007. Please help.
Romaine of Baltimore MD (12/13/07) I paid $2126 for a computer from Financing Alternatives and never received it, nor notification on it or why I haven't received it.
Daniel of Enfield CT (12/10/07) My wife thought she would surprise me with a new computer for Christmas 2003. We couldn't afford to go out and buy it in one lump sum so she purchased it through layaway with Financing Alternatives without me knowing until I noticed the withdrawals out of the checking account. After she told me about it I decided it was too expensive, and we canceled it after only two payments. Luckily I did. We tried for months to get our money back that we had paid, and they refused to give it back to us. They said that we have a credit with them, and that we have to purchase something from them.
After reading the stories of all the people who paid thousands into them, what can I expect to get back from them? They are the reason why I will not order things online. It's not fair that these people are getting away with taking and keeping other people's money and not giving them something for it. Free trade suffers due to their trickery.
Valerie of Saugus CA (12/10/07) I placed an order with Financing Alternatives for a computer on 3/07. Every week there was a withdrawal from my bank acct. for $35.98. It stopped in the month of Oct. I've been trying to log on to the web-site, and it's no longer found. I tried calling their new number, and it doesn't work. And I tried looking for the web-site by the company name, and that's how I got this site.
I don't work; it's only my husband who works. We are a family of 4. For us to have given a company money for nothing--we can't afford that. We could use that money on our kids.
Rosemary of Ridgecrest CA (12/06/07) I saw a Financing Alternatives commercial for making a payment on computers. I called and they told me that I would receive my computer after I had made three payments of $155.96. After making four payments, I called. They said that I had to sign a new contract, then they would send the computer. I signed the new contract and mailed it back. When I did not receive the computer in a couple weeks, I called again. They said that I had failed to provide the last name of one of my references. I provided that one name. They said that I would receive my computer in three months. I moved just prior to the month that the computer was due to come and provided them with my new address. Just prior to moving, I e-mailed that I changed banks due to my move. I made a payment with my new debit card. No one responded to my e-mail. I attempted to call and received a message that all customers service agents were busy and to send an e-mail. I was leery at that point.
I just attempted to call again this week and could not get through. I could no longer get through to their website. I paid this company 7 or 8 payments of $155.96 and never received anything from them. I just checked your website and found out that they were a scam. I thought that they were legitimate because they advertised on TV and had their own website. I have a copy of the Sales Order.
I lost at least $1091.02 to this company. I can verify the payments with my bank statements because they took the payments out of my bank account each month.
Lashanda of Tallahassee FL (12/05/07) I purchased a computer from Financing Alternative in January, 2007. I paid on it a long time; they drafted $76.00 out of my check each time. I've paid about $1500.00 dollars on it and never received my computer, printer, scanner and monitor, yet.
I can't complete my schooling on line or my homework.
Juana of Spartanburg SC (12/05/07) On 10/25/06 I ordered a computer system from Financing Alternatives on layaway plan. Payments were deducted automatically from my bank account. Order has been paid in full since last spring; nothing has been shipped. When I called about delivery, I was told next month--that I had ordered a popular system, and they were out of stock and would ship next month. Each month I was told that, and in October I could no longer reach by phone and sent a letter requesting delivery information. I have not received any response. In November the website was under construction. I Googled Financing Alternatives and came across an article in consumeraffairs.com.
Paid $1,559.48 and have not received or heard anything about my order or money.
Lacheryl of Covington GA (12/05/07) I purchased a computer from Financing Alternatives, and they took $2100.00 out of my bank account, and I have not received my computer. They told me that I would receive my computer in Mar. 2007, and I haven't. I have talked to the mangers and workers, and they have been very nasty and have lied--stating that the computers were on back order. I need my money, and I hope that someone can help me get my money back with interest.
Christina of Peoria AZ (12/03/07) My husband bought into Financing alternatives to surprise me for my birthday. He had started payments in September 2006 and my birthday was end of January. They said he would get the computer right around the end of January or in February 2007. It is now December 2007, and we are still waiting for it. We paid about $1300 dollars on it, and now have to fight to get that money back. With that money I can go and get him a new computer, and this time it would be for him as he is getting deployed to go to IRAQ. I would really like to get this resolved, asap.
We paid money, money that we can't spare, and received nothing in exchange.
Tabatha of Coleman TX (11/29/07) I contacted Financing Alternatives (FAI) in September of 2006. I purchased a desktop computer, and they began to draft $35.99 a week from my checking account. In February 2007 when I received my income tax money, I paid off the computer in full. They told me they were experiencing technical difficulties within their shipping department. I tried calling their company many times only to be told that due to their overwhelming amount of calls, the only way to contact them was by email. I requested my computer or my money back only to be told that due to the contract I signed that I was not entitled to a refund. I have not been able to contact them since. I have saved the emails that I sent, and the only ones I have received and will gladly send those to anyone who needs them. I paid over $1800 for merchandise that I never received, and it shouldn't have cost that to begin with.
I have been trying to work from home so I don't have to pay for child care. Believing that the latest I would get my computer would be September 1, 2007 I signed up with SMC. I planned on using my computer to sell the merchandise on the computer. I was unable to pay for my membership to SMC due to the limited income my family has, and now I owe them $500; and they have sent the account to a debt collection agency.
Ida of Denton TX (11/28/07) I finished paying over $2000 to Financing Alternatives. I have not received my computer system yet! It took me a year to pay. I was told I would receive it this month.
Financially I am in debt. I was told after six payments I would receive the system; then they told me I had to pay for all of it. I planned on finishing my degree with the system. I owe student loans; now things are at a stand still .
Raven of Baltimore MD (11/28/07) I signed up for a computer over a year ago, and Financing Alternatives took money out of my checking account every week. I was supposed to get my computer within 3 months. I have not received anything; they took about $1500.00 out. When I call I get no answer; when I emailed them they said they can't do anything--that it is the warehouse. Please give me a call.
I ordered this computer to be able to talk to my husband who has been deployed.
Kellie of Baltimore MD (11/26/07) I am writing because I have paid Financing Alternative for a computer that I have not received. They took money from my account every month, and now I don't have a computer or my money.
Valencia of Detroit MI (11/26/07) I applied for a computer through Financing Alternatives, and it was paid in full. I haven't received any computer in the mail. It was paid in full on 7/11/2007.
Gloria of Calumet Park IL (11/25/07) I purchase a computer from Financing Alternatives in May 2006. The company drafted $1871.48 dollars from my checking account. Then they took payments of $71.00 every two weeks until the total was paid. Everytime I would call to complain the sales person would give a reason as to why I did not have my computer. I have paid all my money and still no computer. Please help, I really need my $1871.48 back. I no longer want the computer.
Margaret of Larue TX (11/23/07) I saw the Financing Alternatives commercial on TV and thought it was a good deal so called and set it up for a computer. They said I'd pay for 3 months, and they would send it out after 4 months. After 4 months I called,a dn they said they were back-ordered nad would take another 30 days. After another 3 months they said it would be 120 days because they were back ordered. I told them I was tired of the runaround and wanted my money back; they said it was nonrefundable. I waited 5 months and go the same runaround each time I called. I've called every month, and its been almost 3 years with no computer. I want my money back and will not purchase anything seen on TV again.
I have children and could have used the money on them. They have no remorse about the people working hard to make a living, and take our money.
Anthony of Alameda CA (11/21/07) As a 20-year-old college student and around November, 2005, I decided to purchase a laptop through Financing Alternatives. Since I had no credit I figured this would be a great way to get one. I had paid in full in November, 2006, and they said they would ship it out and it would arrive in December. When it didn't show up I called, and they told me that the order would be delayed due to system upgrades that pushed back all orders. They told me no later then the end of January. I waited until mid-February to call back; then they told me that they were still in a delay, and I would receive it in April. In May they gave me the same reason, and this time August would be the time of arrival.
It is now November, 2007--a year later--and now I cannot get in contact with the company, and the website is not working either. I am out $1,400.
Diane of Akron OH (11/18/07) Payments were deducted from my checking account to pay for a computer and my computer was paid in full 2100.00. And I was told that the company was backed up and that my computer would be sent to me in six months, it never came and I would call and would be told that they were catching up and it would only be a matter of time. Then one day I call and I can never talk to a company rep about my account.
Chrishion of Chicago IL (11/17/07) I saw the Financing Alternatives commercial on television and decided to purchase. I called around 05/20/2006 and made the order; my purchase was a little over $1800.00. I was told that my payments were going to be biweekly in the amount of $77.98 and my fulfillment phase is 9/25/2006 which means that if you pay in good faith we will start building your computer. In December I was sent out some paper work to verify my information on file because supposedly they were about to deliver. I sent the signed documents back and in 02/02/2007 I received a web camera.
I called Financing Alternatives and asked them where was my computer; they said that it was on its way to my home. Called back in about a week to let them know that I hadn't received my computer; the response was the parts were not compatible to the computer. I asked how much longer because my last payment is 06/18/2007, and only received a web camera. Response was you should have your computer at the end of April,. Still no computer. Called back, and they said it would come at the end of September. (I was done with payments in full 06/18/2007.) When I tried to call back for my status at the end of September there were no working phone lines nor internet access to the company.
I have lost $1800.00 and have no computer. I am poor and decided to go this way because of the low biweekly payments.
Temeka of South Daytona, LA (11/16/07) I obtained an account with this company back in April. Everything was fine until it was time for the product to be shipped. I received a letter stating that it would arrive within weeks of the letter, but I never received the computer,
I tried calling but never could get through. The website was shut down. Now I am out over $900 and no computer.
Darlene of Chicago, IL (11/15/07) I was told that I could get a computer with a valid checking account, regardless of credit score. So I contacted Financing Alternatives Inc. and they told me all I had to do to get started was to pay my deposit of $150. After that they took monthly payments out of my account.
I got concerned when I was finished making my payments and I still didn't get the computer. I called and sent e-mails asking why I hadn't gotten my computer. All I got was one response saying that they don't know when I'll get my computer.
Shirley of Philadelphia, PA (11/12/07) I ordered a computer with payments taken out of my checking account totaling $650 over a 6 months period. When I asked for my money back, because I didn't feel comfortable with the company, I was told I couldn't get my money back or the computer.
I am low income, disabled and I don't have money to give away.
Carla of Galesburg, IL (11/12/07) I saw a TV ad. It sounded like a great idea, but all it did was take my money.
I paid a downpayment of $150 and then in 2 weeks started paying $71.98 every 2 weeks. I thought I was getting this BIG bargain and a chance to have something nice with all the free gifts I was going earn for paying on time. I was to get: a Visa prepaid card and a prepaid cell phone after 1st months payment. A MP 3 player after 2nd months payment, and for each month of on time payments I would earn additional 30-minute cellphone cards. After 4-5 months of on-time payments, my computer would be shipped directly from the manufacturer and when it was completely paid in full I earned a 23`` LCD TV. Included in the computer package was a bundle of programs worth over $700.
I think I lost close to a $1000, that I paid them faithfully every 2 weeks.
Manuela of Brooklyn NY (11/04/07) ON September 22, 2006 I saw a TV commercial say I could get a brand new desktop no matter what my credit. I called the company, and the person I spoke to told me I could get a computer if I made few payments of $24.99. I agreed and made the first payment of $100.00. The person also confirmed that once I reached a certain amount of payments I will receive a complete desktop computer system. I continued to make my payments of $24.99 weekly. I never received the computer; I tried to call the company, but they were disconnected. I tried their website and was under construction. Now I know the company is a fraud. I am very upset; they took my hard working money out of the bank. Now I am ready and willing to take the company to court and have all my documents to prove my case. They are thieves, liars and criminals and need to be behind bars. PLEASE HELP ME
I feel very stressed and upset because this computer was supposed to be a gift for my two children. How can I explain that this company conned me to my children? It just made it seem like I was lying to my children because they don't understand how a company could con a person.
Ucilla of Orlando FL (11/04/07) I was robbed by Financing Alternatives of almost $1900.00 for a laptop I wanted to purchase for my daughter who is in college. I tried calling several times, and all I heard was the same excuse from all previous clients. It's a shame how this scam happened to so many of us hard working people. I am living from paycheck to paycheck and barely surviving.
Tina of Cincinnati OH (11/02/07) I ordered a computer from Financing Alternatives after seeing a TV ad, and I was paying bi-weekly since April. I was supposed to get my computer at the end of September, and I never did. I wrote to them, with no answer; I tried to call them--still no answer. Finally I stopped my bank account from them taking any more money; that was the second week in October. Please help me get my money back! Please help! Thank you!
These people took my money that I worked hard for. I hope Financing Alternatives doesn't get away with it.
Miguel of Lorain OH (10/29/07) iIsent $1,871.48 to Financing Alternatives, Inc. on 12/26/03 for a computer, and a never received it.
Princess of Miami FL (10/29/07) I gave Financing Alternatives representative Donte Brown all my personal information, and $71.98 bi-weekly was drafted out my bank account. After I upgraded to a bigger monitor and a double hard drive it changed to $99.75 bi-weekly. I was supposed to get a Dell computer and 3-in-1 printer by September 19th. All I got was a Lexmar printer and nothing else. I called everyday and the associates continued to say any day now; no tracking number yet. I went online to get another number to reach them, and that's when I saw they were being investigated.
I'm so hurt because I really couldn't afford that; I'm a part-time driver. I needed a computer to go back to school. They took over $1400.00 from me!
Mary of York PA (10/26/07) I called Financing Alternatives to place an order and gave my credit card number; they began taking $49.00 a wk. out of my savings account. They have taken $1,871.48. On July 12, 2005 I was supposed to receive my computer and here it is Oct 26, 2007 and I still have not received the computer. I have been calling them and faxing them and they give me a different excuse every time I call. I just want my money back. I've been riped off. Please help me with this matter. I don't have money to just give away.
How can they be allowed to advertise on national TV and know that it is false advertising and get away with it?
Steven of Melissa TX (10/26/07) I told that by Financing Alternatives that after 6 payments of $92.00 I would receive my computer. I did not recevie it. Upon calling and sending emails I finally got a response that I would be receiving it soon. Still no computer. This was really a stretch for me to do. My wife was needing one, however, and this was going to be a 16th wedding anniversary surprise.
This computer was to help us be prepared for an opportunity that my wife's job was going to let her work from home. Now we are out the money and no prep for her job.
Claudette of Cambridge MA (10/26/07) I called Financing Alternatives all the time. Each time they tell me they are upgrading my computer. I stopped calling because I feel I lost my money. They took that money out of my checking account each month. I made a big mistake. Never again will buy anything like that. I am working to repair my credit. My money was stolen by them.
G. O. of Jacksonville FL (10/23/07) I order a computer from Financing Alternative in April 2007. They started drafting payments of $35.99 weekly. When I first placed the order I was told the computer would be shipped after 3 months of payments. After 3 months came and went, I called to make sure the computer had been shipped. I was told that the 3 month rule was incorrect and that due to the start date the computer wouldn't be shipped until August 2007. August came and went: no computer. I called and this time they said they were missing paperwork needed to start production. I know they received the paperwork--sent FedEx and was delivered. October came and still no computer. I started calling the second week of October and all circuits were busy. My fiancee said she would fax a letter to find out what was going on. She decided to Google the company because she said she had a very bad feeling, and she finds that the computer has disappeared.
Thus far they have drafted $971.73 from my account. I have literally gone into a depression regarding this. I had finally gotten to a point where I was trying to make bigger strides in my life. I feel as though they have taken advantage of me.
Susan of Fruitland ID (10/23/07) From an ad on TV, I called Financing Alternatives and gave my checking account number to begin payments for a new laptop. In Dec. 2005, I began making payments towards a new laptop which I have never seen or even touched yet. After a year I had made all the payments necessary to pay off this new laptop. I have been waiting now since Dec. 2006 to receive my new laptop.
Many times over I was told the computer was waiting to be shipped out., On many occasions I was left on hold up to 45 minutes to an hour waiting for any answer. It got to the point I could not get a hold of any one, and the customer service number would direct me to a web address, and I don't have my laptop to be on the internet. In many conversations whatever rep would say the hardware and software is outdated and they would need to do upgrades before shipping the new laptop. It was not until today my son suggested he look up on the internet to investigate and try the BBB to see if this company was for real. I praise my son for taking this step, and now I clearly see there is always someone out there robbing from the poor.
April of Hartford CT (10/20/07) We saw Financing Alternatives commercial on TV, and my mother thought that it would be a good idea for my little brother to have a good computer in the house. So we called and decided to order. She gave him her credit card number. We felt safe because the government allowed them to show their commercials on TV. We got taken.
We have been in lack due to these payments, and sometimes her account hasbeen over drafted. We have to pay back the bank the money that she had earned that needed to be for rent. We were almost evicted.
Loretta Cobb of Spencer OK (10/18/07) i was told that i was suppose to get my computer in january after 3 payments out of my checking account and never received it after that. was told that i will receive it in agust and it is now october and still dont have it.
Gloria of College Park MD (10/16/07) I paid Financing Alternatives for 7 months, $155.96, and have not received my computer. There is no contact number. a fake web site and e-mail address. Please help to get my money back. This is sad.
Stephanie of Howell MI (10/16/07) I purchased a computer from Financing Alternatives but never received it, and $35.99 was taken weekly out of my checking account. Heard this company is under investigation for taking money from people. I would like my $1871.48 dollars.
I paid full amount for this computer, plus shipping and handling and never received the merchandise.
Dawn of Baggs WY (10/13/07) I was told I had to pay 3 payments of $155.96 and then my computer would be sent to me. That was in february, I should have received my computer in may. It never happened. I called them in june only to get excuses as to why I had not yet received my computer. I called in july and august only to get more excuses. I received a letter from them stating that they changed their customer service number, when I called it, it was not a working number. I looked up their website only to find out that it no longer existed. I was cheated out of $1,100.00 of hard earned money that I will probably never see.
Jennifer Lindbloom of Stockton CA (10/12/07) I purchased a desktop computer and my payments started on 12/28/2005. I had been paying for the computer for three months and still had not recieved my computer yet. After paying off my computer in approxiamtely Feburary or March of 2007 I called the company and they stated that I should recieve my computer anywhere from May 1 to May 31st of 2007. By the beginning of June 1st I had no recieved my computer yet so I called the company again and they gave the standard line about how they were in some kind of delay oe back log so it would take anywhere from 60-120 at worse length before I get my computer.
I purchased the compter so that myself and my husband could go back to school and take some online courses not to mention to allow my children to learn how to use the computer.
Ami of Highlad Village TX (10/11/07) I enrolled in a plan to purchase a computer with Financing Alternatives in May of 2005. All fees were paid and I finished paying off this computer as of 8/16/06. I have contacted them periodically to check the status of my shipment. Each time I called, I was very rudely informed that there was a delay in the shipping process. The last time I spoke with them on 05/09/07, I was told by Robert (supevisor) that there was still a delay in the shipping and it would ship to me no later than 9/30/07. He also informed me that I would not get my money back and that it wouldbe fruitless for me to seek legal counsel as my contract read that it was up to them as to how long it would take to ship all products. I have yet to receive my computer or an kind of correspondence as to why my computer has not shipped. Also, as of today 10/11/07, their 800 number is not going through and no one is answering the other number that I have for them, which I have listed above.
I have had to close the bank account that they were drafting payments out of so they could no longer have access and I have paid $1871.48 for a product that I will probably never see.
M of Boulder MT (10/09/07) I was promised a computer after I made my first three payments on time my payments were automaticly taken out of my ckecking account witch started 12/4/2006 and have coutinued till 9/3/07 there now stating that there behind on shipping them out and that I wo'nt be billed till its shipped in the mean time I have to use my friends computer this is not fare. Joyce of Jersey City NJ (10/09/07) I placed an order for a computer in Feburary of 2007 and the monthly payments of $155.96 to be taken out of my checking account the 15th of each month. Once I met the 3 months of making payments I received a letter dated 04/04/07 congraluating me that I've been approved for the Revolving Account Plan. I had to sign and return the document which I did as requested. I should have received my computer 6-8 weeks after they received my agreement letter.
Jesse of San Jose CA (10/08/07) I ordered a computer after seeing the ad on tv made all my payments round 1900 dollars to be exact they said the computer was out of production on july 21st my final payment was made on july 28th here it is now october and no computer note that i started my payments in august of 2006 over a year and still no computer.
Trying to get my animation buisness started and can't even put my product out cause of no computer.I believe as far as damage anything that causes one to stress can do lots to the mind and body.
Chanel of Sacramento CA (10/05/07) I needed A computer fast so I thought going with financing alternatives was the best way to go about it.Well I turned out to be wrong in the year of august 2006 they began to draft 155.96.
Every month when I was paid in full.I spoke with one their reps and they told I should recieve my product within 4 to 8 weeks.I never reiceved a thing.I called again in the month of june 2007 and I was told the were backed up on their deliveries due to some changes to their computer system I was told I would receive my product no later than september 2007. It is now october they diconnected all of their phones lines and shut down their websites.they scam me out of 1,151.68 of my money I want every last red cent back now.
due to this matter it has been times consumming not to mention all the money I was giving eventually cause finacial hardship because at the I was paying them I was really streching myself.I had to move from where I lived and I dont have a car to get me and my children around I was getting a computer so I could have internet to look for a new job.I am stressed because this is not the first time I have been scammed but this time is the last time. Now I will have hard time order from anyone else.
Kay of Brasher Falls NY (10/05/07) Started Nov.2006 $72.00 Biweeky. What I had taken in that I would recieve my computer by Christmas. So I called back they told me that if i mis understood listen to the recording of myself and them, then I asked when will I recieve the computer, thier answer was not until half of the amount on the computer paid one payment of 72.00 out of checkings in Nov. ask for my money back,no refund. So at this moment upset, not recieving a computer not recieving my payment. I did,t want to lose that amount and with Christmas not a gift to recieve deferred payments until January curent balance of $1871.48
Started back into payments around March I phoned them asking if I pay half down when will I recieve my computer about 120 more days which i was lacking a references which i did over the phone,so with my income tax money I've payed half the of the computer. Still telling me 120 days and that there were other people ahead.
Sharon of Baltimore MD (10/05/07) I placed an order in May 2006 for a desktop computer(complete with printer/education package & 1Yr of AOL free). I was told to make 3 ocnsecutive payments and my computer would go into production and be shipped out.
I did as was asked(checking acct debit). When I began calling about my computer 08/01/06, I was told they had a new computer system and a lot of orders were messed up. There would be a 60 day delay.
I called 60 days later and was told the same thing. They were having trouble with their 'new' system and there would be another 60 day delay.
I called every 60 days, only to be told the same thing. I even received a printer which by the way is still in the box. And has been for over a year. But still no computer.
My computer was paid in full $1,871.48 on 07/02/07. Still NO COMPUTER!!! I called one final time in September of this year and was immediately sent to a bogus website and non-working telephone numbers.
I want my money back. They cannot tell me that I paid almost $2000.00 for a printer. I don't even want the darn thing. All I want is my money back so that I can get my son a computer to use since I promised him one over a year ago.
I am a single mother. Do you think if I could have afforded a computer out-right, I would have ever gone with a lay-away plan system. Now I find out I have been ripped off. Please help me.
I can't even begin to explain what this has done to me and my child. He is 14 years old and in high school. The school he attends is digital tech and they want every student to have their own home computer with email account set up. I constantly hear that he is the only one in the class who does not have a home computer.
Katherine of Greenwood MS (10/05/07) I AM A 66 YEAR OLD WOMAN.I THOUGHT HAVING A COMPUTER WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE AND I COULD START MAKING MONEY FROM HOME.THE AMOUNT OF $54.14 HAS BEEN DRAFTED OUT OF MY ACCOUNT TWICE A MONTH FOR OVER A YEAR. EVERY TIME I CALLED IT WOULD SAY THEY WAS EXPERIENCING HIGH CALL VOLUME AND WOULD HANG UP OR MY COMPUTER WOULD BE HERE AT A CERTAIN TIME.I HAVE NOT RECIEVED A COMPUTER YET.
Farrah of Port Richey FL (10/04/07) Reading all of these posts about this company...makes me feel good (and bad!)that I was not the ONLY one taken advantage of!!The story everyone tells is the exact same as mine... Sign up... money debited every month...and no compter. I was able to get my computer after 10 months of payments only after I filed a complaint with the BBB. BUT the computer I recieved was a laptop and I ordered a desktop. I tried and tried to get through to SOMEONE at their customer service number...e-mailed them...yet never got any respone back...sound familiar!!?? I ended up keeping this laptop, even though it is not what I paid for or ordered. I had 2 payments left and paid a little over $1,000 (thats an expensive laptop!!!)so after not being able to contact anyone about what I recieved...I ended up closing my checking account so they could not take any more money. I have chalked this up to a lesson learned. My question is HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS? I swear if I had the money, I would hire a lawyer and sue to get my $$ back. I don't know how a company like this is allowed to stay in business!?
Patricia of Atlanta GA (09/28/07) I needed a computer so I contacted Financing Alternative. 11-26-2006 I started payment by allowing them to debit my checking account. They said I had to make so many payments before I could receive my computer, which was ok with me. I started calling them in February to see when will they be shipping out my computer. They said because of the back log and upgrade of the computers I will have to wait about 90 days.
Well after 90 days which was May I called back. They told me I had to wait 120 more days, which would be the first of September. I have not received my computer yet. In between those times I have been calling, to only get a recording. I have e-mailed them I don't know how many times, still no reply. I have paid $1,787.44 in which I have asked for a refund.
Mary of Espanola NM (09/28/07) I saw a commercial on TV night and was intrigued by the offer of purchacing a computer with small easy payments.I was never told that this program was non-refundable and once you start the program you have to complete it or you loose any money put in. I was then told that once I've made six (6) consequetive payments they will ship our computer and then we'll make the next nine (9) payments after that. Well it's been two (2) years and the computer is paid off, and still no shipment. My husband is extremely upset and now we don't want a stupid computer, we want our money!
I ordered a DELL PC online through Financing Alternatives. The account has been paid in full sincelast October of 2006. They still have not sent my computer. I have emailed and requested over and over and over again with no solution. I have tried contacting customer service which unless you are placing an order, you will be put on hold forever. Once they do answer, they have nothing to tell you except you have to wait. Don't ask for a supervisor--I was told by the person that I spoke with that she is the supervisor for the day. I have tried emailing them over and over again. These are sample responses. Tanya S
Erika of Montgomery AL (09/25/07) I ordered a laptop from Financing Alternatives and was told after they receive 3 payments, ehich was debited from my checking account, the laptop will be delivered to me. So, after the payments were made I waited about 2 months and I did not receive the laptop, so I called them. I was told that the laptop was on back order and I had to wait 90 days. I waited 90 days and called back again and was told I had to wait 120 days. When the 120 days was over I called again to check on the delivery date and was told that I had to wait another 120 days. I then requested to speak with a supervisor and she stated that the laptop will be delivered this time for sure. So, I called them back again because the computer was completely paid for in September 2006 and it was now Feburary 2007, but they told me that it will be delivered no later than September because they were behind in the shipping. I have been tring to call and speak with someone and all I get is a recording that tell me all representatives are busy and to go to a bogus website. I will like to receive my 2160.00 dollars back if possible. I sent an email to the VA bbb, and told them I lost 1250.00, but it was more than that because they debited my checking account every month for over a year for a $35.88 for a total amount of $2160.00
I don't make much money and I need the laptop because my computer ahd crashed and I was taking online classes. i lost the money for the classes and the money for the laptop.
Victoria of Raleigh NC (09/24/07) I ordered a computer 11/08/2005 for my business. I was told i'd receive my computer after 3 months of payments were received. My contract states that iI would receive my computer after completing the 6 consecutive bi-weekly payments of $71.98. as of January 2007 I had fully paid FI 1,871.48, and didnit receive a computer. I was told due to computer problems my computer would not be built for 6 more weeks. As if that was not enough, After calling FI over and over I was told it would not be arriving until May, 2007. They shipped the computer to the wrong address, had to supposingly build another, and ultimately send me the wrong one a inexpensive bunch of software.I as of September 2007 have not received my order after having my bank account drafted and their is no reason why on time payments haven't been reported on my credit.
Economically I haven't built a stronger credit score, and could have bout 3 computers for the price of one. Physically It drained me to have to argue and persistantly call the FI and not talk to anyone who could help or rectify the situation. I altimatly had to prolong even writing a business plan and structuring my business over one year. And have lost a considerable amount of revenue do to the delay.
Vanessa of Irvington NJ (09/20/07) I order a computer from FAI and never received the computer. Money was taken out of my bank account every month for the computer in the amount of 71.98 until the full amount of $1871.48 was paid, as soon as all the money was taken i did not hear from them at all. so this is when i started calling this number and emailing them and was being given the run around and excuses that my computer would be here within a week then two weeks then 30 days. The last time i spoke to anyone was June and i was told that they had a back log and it would be here in 90 days, now 90 days have passed and i still dont have any computer.
Chelsea of Albuquerque NM (09/17/07) I signed a contract with this company back in August of 2006 for 71.98 every 2 weeks. After 3 months I was suppose to receive a brand new laptop. It is now a year later and I have payed $1871.48 to date and have not received any computer. When i have called on several occasions they say oh you didn't sign the proper paper work and they would mail it off and I would sign it and send it back. The last time I spoke with someone was early July 2007 they said they were behind and would be shipping the product off in Late August. Still no product and I am out almost $2000.
Camorah of Mesa AZ (09/15/07) I started to make payments sept 06, I signed up for bi-monthly payments of 78.00, which was taken out of my checking account. I had made the 6th payment and waited for my computer. I was alway told that their was a delay and I have to wait 120 days. Stupid me, I just made another payment, two days ago, I had paid off this product. I tried to contact someone to let them know I finished the payments but no answer. I have about 5 different phone numbers for the company. They all say the same thing and hang up. It is a year later, no computer.
Ruth of Inglewood CA (09/14/07) Purchased computer on layaway plan, was promised delivery after option 1 a lump sum payment of $367.00 or 2 $78.00 twice monthly of 6 payments, which balance would be converted into installment contract of remaining monthly payments @$78.00 twice monthly until paid in full. This company begin drafting out of my bank account in November of 2006, I was told my computer would be shipped after February 26,2007, since I had made on time payments. When I contacted the company in April of 2007 reagrding shipment was told by Tanya S. a representative of the company that due to upgrades to network & servers my shipment would be delayed, and to allow up to 120 days from May 1,2007. Called back and could no longer reach customer reps just got recording to either email or write company at entirely different address from which was given to me. This company as taken over $1,400.00 from out of my account, and when I emailed them in August, I was told they could give no answer as to when to expect my shipment. I then asked for a refund of my money, and was told that it not refundable, but I still have no computer.
Becky of Spring City PA (09/14/07) In April 2006 I signed a contract to make weekly payments of $35.99 and after 13 payments I would receive a complete computer system, and continue payments until I paid off the $1800. When I did not receive it by August they sent me a $250 voucher to purchase anything from their site to apologize for the delay. So I added a digital camera to my order. I have been paid in full since March 07. I haven't received any products that I ordered and they do not respond to e-mails or take my phone calls. I have paid them more than $2000.
Kandice of Mechanicsburg PA (08/24/07) I signed a contract agreeing to pay 71.98 every two weeks with the company. They stated I would recieve this laptop after three months of steady payments. This was about 9 months ago. This purchase is almost paid off with a last payment of only 25.00 and still no computer. They have received 1753.56 from me so far. I have called them several times only to hear that my computer has been delayed. (They said they are trying to keep up with their orders) I asked them for a refund of my momney and they rufused stating they give no refunds.
No computer and out almost 2000.00
Lori of St.johns MI (08/24/07)
My husband and I ordered a Dell computer in October 2006. The payment was set up for $155.96/month but we decided to call them back and get a nicer computer. We called them and the total amount of the computer came to $3300.00 making $277.00/month payment. This payment started in November 2006. We were told once we had $800.00 down we would get our computer. Well that would of been in January of 2007. It’s now August and we have no computer.
Trevor of Lawrence KS (08/21/07) I started off with this company by making monthly payments of $204.14 for a package set of a pc computer/digital camera/printer-scanner-copier machine. the first payment was May 2006 and final payment was April 2007. After the first three months I did not receive the offer of the revolving credit plan in which they send me the computer and allow me to continue making payments till thru. I tried calling them sooooooooooo many times and finally one day I got thru- however, their reply was unsatisfactory but they assured me all was well. When April arrived and I made my last payment, I called to confirm the shipping date and after about 200 phone calls I finally got someone to answer (the problem was a constant busy signal) and they told me there was a problem and for me to wait an additional 120 days before inquiring again because they were behind in their orders. I demanded a refund and they stated we don't give refunds and I was instantly disconnected.
Rayna of Schuylkill Haven PA (08/20/07)
I agreed to pay 71.98 every 2 weeks and after 3 months of payments my computer would be shipped. This was July, 2006; it is now August, 2007 the computer is fully paid off at just over 1800.00 dollars. I called several times to find out how far along the building and shipping process is only to learn that there is a supposed delay from their shipping company. Every time that I have called they have given me a different date that i should have it by.
I have lost over 1800 hundred dollars, my bank account has been overdrawn several times because they have not taken the payment out on time. Also I was so worried that I would be charged extra fees because I had to go on maternity leave and knew it would be hard to pay. Because of this my rent was late one month and I was served and eviction notice. I was lucky enough to get help with the money for my rent so myself and my 2 toddlers were not put out on the street during last November after I lost my baby, which was stress enough without having all this unnecessary trouble due to this scam artist company.
John of Philadelphia PA (08/20/07)
I was supposed to have 155.96 debited out of my checking account every month, but they took the money out weekly. With all the overdraft fees it has ruined my reputation with my bank!
Marcy of Greenville TX (06/21/07)
I contacted Financing Alternatives over the internet in May 2006. I signed a contract to get a computer system. They would debit my account 35.99 a week until 13 consecutive pmts were made and then they would ship out the computer. Well I paid the computer off 05-21-07. I was told back in Feb.07 that the (order) was being sent to Dell to start the 8-week build process. I called and emailed and no response from the company since it was paid for completely on 5-21-07. I was told that shipping would occur on June 9, 2007. On the 14th of June, I called and talked to Tiffany. She said that Financing Alternatives had a computer system failure and that nothing would be put to build or shipped for 120 days.
They have not done one thing that they promised in the start. The computer system that after you read the fine print is a 500.00 computer and I ultimately paid 1871.48.
Mitzie of Bronx NY (06/19/07)
I was sitting at home watching TV when I saw the commercial about Financing Alternatives. I took the contact information and decided to give them a call. The customer service representative informed that in order to receive a brand new computer from this company, I would first to set up weekly payment for 13 consecutive weeks of $35.99 per week from my checking account. This weekly payment started on June 13, 2006 through June 4, 2007.
Almost a year later and I still have not received my brand new computer as promised by Financing Alternatives. Each time I spoke with some at this company, I received different information regarding the shipment date on my product.
Marcella of Lakehurst NJ (06/14/07)
I gave them all the information from my bank, and allowed her to debit $71.98 from my account on that and every other week. I was told then that after 3 months of payments my computer would go into production for 6 to 8 weeks to be built and tested then it would be shipped out which should have been in April. On 2/22/2007 they tried to debit $71.98 out of my account and I came up insufficient funds, but I had called them 2/21/2007 and told them the money wouldn't be there and I let them on 2/21/2007 take 3 payments off my check card from another account so they wouldn’t have that problem with the insufficient funds. They still penalized me for that, and made me make three straight payments, and my shipping date was suppose to be 6/11/2007.
I called them on the 11th to see if my laptop was shipped out, and they told me no now I have to wait 120 more days. I then asked for a refund they told me they don't give refunds, but I was never told that in the beginning. Therefore, I have paid so far $1007.71 and I want my money back.
Bridgett of Forsyth GA (06/14/07)
I think I've been scammed! My credit isn't so good, so I had seen an ad on TV that said with a checking account you’re already pre-approved. I call and agreed that they could deduct $155.95 out of my account for 3 months, after the 3rd month they would build my Dell from floor up and ship it to me. It's now going on the fifth month and no computer. Therefore, I call financing alternatives and they said I couldn't get a refund from all of the money I’d spent. So I guess I’m out of about $800.00, and I’m having to switch my accounts.
Kenneth of Springfield Gardens NY (05/16/07)
When I spoke to a C.S.R regarding this, the rep indicated that you pay $35.99 per week through your checking account & after about 12 payments the computer would be shipped to you via UPS. Therefore, if that were true I should have rec'd the computer back in September of 06. Then as Sept came, I get a letter stating that I needed another reference. I thought that was somewhat odd, being that they had already taken 2 & half months of my money. I provided them with the reference. I have been calling every month for information on when I was going to rec'd the computer. Here it is now May 16, and I still have not received anything yet.
Jacquelyn of Baltimore MD (05/10/07)
I have been paying into an account for a computer from Financing Alternatives since 3/23/2006. I have not received a computer. I contact costumer service every 30 days to get a status report and they give me the same information that my computer is being built by DELL. They even went into my checking account and took out payments after I told them to stop payment until I was given an answer on why I had not yet received my computer.
Carolyn of Olympia WA (05/07/07) Back in Jan. of 2006 I signed up to purchase a computer from them as a layaway plan, finally 1 year and three months later, I paid my account off. I thought it was a done deal, but they still continued to get the payments out of my account, and so I tried to call to get this resolved, and find out when I will receive my computer. Well I tried to reach costomer care, and I am never able to get through. I either get disconnected, or I am hold for so long (30minutes) that the phone just hangs up.I have sent emails, and still no reply. I have decided to go to the BBB and I find out that they have several complaints filed against them more than 400. So now I don't know what to do. When I would miss a payment, they were able to contact me, but now that it is paid off no one tries to contact me about my computer.
Well now I feel that I am out of $1,871.48. Yes this is what I paid to receive the computer. As well as others that are in this same situation I am in. Think about it, over 400 people have tried to buy a computer through them, and now are filing complants about this company.
Sharonda of Detroit MI (04/23/07)
I entered the program thinking that building a credit history with Financing Alternatives to get a computer, printer, web cam, etc. As time went on, I was told the system was in a delay. Every time I received a date that the system was to be shipped, they added 90 more days. The system has been paid in full since early February; 2007.I am still waiting for the merchandise or my money back. I have sent them emails and I call constantly. They stick with the story of the computer being in some type of delay. There was even one time when I was told a certain day the product would be sent to me and I was told that no body told me that.
Karen of Fenton MI (04/21/07)
I signed up via their website and agreed to make monthly payments of $130.00. After I completed the 3 monthly payment they sent out the address confirmation and revolving payment contract. I signed this information and provided additional information for them to continue billing my bank account. The contract stated that the computer would be shipped within 6-8 weeks. After 2 months in which I made 2 additional monthly payments I still had not received my computer.
I called the company and asked what was going on with the shipping of my computer. They stated since I had forgotten to include 1 reference that my computer still had not been shipped. They stated I should have received something in the mail informing me I was missing a key part in shipping my computer. I told them I had not received anything.
My bank account was overdrawn cause they still attempted to withdraw money after I stated I wanted my money back. And I am out $850 with nothing to show for it but a new respect for reading the fine print.
Latanya of Chicago IL (04/11/07) I saw the advertisement on television about a computer that I could get for 35.99 per week and it will be taken straight from my checking account. I started making payments in december of 2006, as of today it is april 2007 and I have not recieved my computer. I was supposed to recieve my computer feb. 2007 and I called the company and was informed I would have to wait an additional 6 weeks while my computer was being built. 6 weeks has passed and I still have not recieved my computer. I have sacrificed for 5 months and paid over 650.00 for this computer that I have never recieved and I understand that I cannot get any of my money back and financing alternatives may mess up my credit if I don't continue to make payments which is unfair.
Chin of San Gabriel CA (03/10/07) I went to Firestone at Diamond Bar for oil changes. Mr. Ray, the supervision of the workshop told me to change my car mouth. Without my knowledge he took out the mouth without change a new one and want me to go back shop the following Saturday due to limited time, as he said it take about 4 hours to fix the problems. He asked me to pay the money first with the reason to order the new mounth for my car. But, I was wondered and refused. Before I got my car to go back home. He gave me my car mouth caverage and left the missing mouth on my car without put it back to the origina place with the reason it was broke and unable to put it back. I went to another car workshop, the mechanic told me that it was dangerous to drive a car without a mounth supporting. I was so upset with the firestone people's irresponsible attitude. What should I do to make a complain about them? Please give me advises.

Susan of Elkhart IN (11/16/06) This company advertises you get a computer with no credit check but you must have a checking account. They tell you that its on layaway for 13 consecutive payments and then they build and ship your computer. The payments are $35.99 per week. They started taking payments out of my checking account 12/30/2005 and i still have not received my computer.
When I try to call them and ask to speak to a manager or supervisor they hang up on me. The advisers they have answering calls said there is a 60-day delay on shipping as of october 30th so therefore the computer will not be ordered until december 30th. Come on, this is ridiculous. It's almost been a year. They have a no -refund policy. They are still getting my money out of my account, and I don't want the computer anymore. I want my money back. I calculate at least 6 more payments, I will be done paying for it and it still will not be delivered. I could have put it on layaway at walmart somewhere and already have it.
April of New York NY (03/20/06) I ordered a computer from Financing Alternatives in November of 2005,I Understood that it takes 3 months for the computer to be shipped out but I had no Knowledge that the computer takes eight weeks to be shipped to your house. I agreed to there being no refunds but at the time I was excited about getting my own brand new computer.
So agreed to just about anything, I gave them a blank check and I filled out a letter So I WAITED FOR THREE MONTHS PAYING THEM bi-weekly out of my checking accountI call them and they now tells me that it takes 8 weeks for me to receive the computer. I then continue to pay for the computer because I previously called a time before to cancel my order
Carolyn of Bronx NY (02/22/06) They have been receiving payment of $35.99 per month since August with a told delivery date of October 2005. I cannot cancel for a computer too over priced $1700 including financing for one year. They stated I had ISF on 2/16 now I cannot be given a date for delivery for another three months. They have deceived me from the beginning of acceptance. I need the system and cannot cancel without it being put in my credit history.
Alicia of Brooklyn NY (12/05/05) I saw this advertisement for a computer. Because at that time I did not establish credit nor have sufficient money I decided to try to get a PC for my daughter for her 13th birthday. At the time the account was set up I Spoke with a sales rep Mr Paul W, at that time I informed him that 2 days prior I had just set a new banking system so at that time we could not use the new account, he informed me that in about a couple days i should call with the new information, which i did but was informed that i will have to fax and mail in the new info which I did.
Because they continue using the wrog banking info the HSbc account was closed at that time, due to this I had about 4 overdrafts with Hsbc bank.
Patricia of Bayonne NJ (05/16/05) I responded to an ad on tv for a computer.I have paid $35.99 a week for 46 weeks and I still have no computer I called today 5/16/05 and they said that my NEW computer has to be built from the floor up and the company building it Is Dell. I have called Dell about this and they state the have no agreements with Financing Alternatives. The agreement was $35.99 for 52 weeks but supposedly after they see you establish good credit report with them they send the computer.
Lonnieof Valdosta GA (03/01/05) I was trying to buy a computer from this company I told them that i wanted a gateway computer and they said that i could get one from them by taking 29.99 a week out of my checking account at my bank. I agreed to this. So I called the company another time to see when I was going to get my computer. They said That It would be six months before I could get. I agreed to that. when my six was up I called again to see when they was going to send it (gateway computer).
They then, said that I had missed a payment and that the computer (a DELL Computer) would be sent in six more months. So I said that I didn't order a DELL Computer and the women said that it was the only computer that they had and that they didn't even have Gateway computers. I tried that, to no avail.
