Conseco Sells GM Building

Greentree's troubled portfolio of mobile-home loans was sold to Conseco a few years ago, leading to the third-largest bankruptcy in U.S. history. Conseco has rid itself of Greentree as part of the bankruptcy proceeding, leaving customers in a fog, as these consumer reports show.

We purchased our home in 1997 new and our loan was with Green point financial. After some financial difficulty in 1999, we filed bankruptcy ch7, in which our payments were put on hold for 4 months. When we resumed payments I paid double payments to catch them up so our loan would not be behind. Eventually, Green tree purchased the loan from them and we continued making payments for the remainder of the loan, so I thought.

In, May 2007, I contacted them and asked when my last payment would be due and was told my last payment is due 7/12/07 and according to the statement I had received that was correct. After I made this payment, I began to receive bills in the mail for 0.01 (yes a penny). Well, I mailed them a penny on several occasions, until finally my husband says Why don't you call them and ask them why we keep getting this bill? Sounded reasonable, so, I called, the lady on the phone was very rude and said we needed to pay 4,680.00 in full by the end of the month. No payments would be taken and even if I tried to continue to make these monthly payments I would still be considered in default until the amount was paid in full...Wow!

I disputed it for months and to this day still do not have an official answer, no proof that the amount due is still owed from their records, they've only supplied me with sporadic monthly dates (dates that the payment was not even due)...Oh, and they sent me my payment history and according to their payment history it has been paid in full...One more thing, according to our credit history the loan is paid in full with a 0.00 balance...

Now, we have been in the process of trying to buy a new home and have been turned down because they have now reported us in default with the loan. My only decision is do I just pay the jerks or get an attorney? I'm just simply confused at how heartless, crude, and incorrect these people can be and get away with it.

We fell a little behind, 70 days. We have a 2 yr. old that has had 5 Surgeries. They did not care, Kept calling and harrassing. Suppervisor told us to pack out stuff and go to the Salvation Army. At one time, 2 years ago, we were selling the house, called about a short payoff, that time, the payments were up to date. They said they would send someone out. They got crossed, thought they were looking at it for Forclosue, not a short pay off. They broke in our house, damaged door, gave away stuff in our yard to people riding by and put forsale signs in the window and changed the locks. Did not even get an im sorry.

Alot of economic damage due to thes [people].

In the year 1995, I purchased a mobile home, with Greentree Finance, unfortunately. The house cost was 31,000, and I paid 9,000 down. That left me with owing 22,000. Only 6 to 8 months ago, they stated to me that the payoff was still 20,000! My girlfriend accidentally washed about 6 of my receipts that proved that I'd made my payments up to this point, and they said I'd have to come up with the money to REPAY them for those 6 months of receipts!

Well, even though I did not have those receipts, they certainly should have had a record that I'd paid it! My boyfriend thinks they snitch money out of the payments, because they call and tell you they've not received payment even if you have paid 2 payments. I think they are as crooked, sorry, no forgiveness for anyone, they think they are always right and everyone else is wrong! I do not think this business is being run in an efficient or legal way. I would like to have an attorney look at this, and then get back with me!

I had to just give up and just quit paying. I had no way to catch up with that many months, especially since I'd already paid it once! They say they are going to come get trailer, so all the years I'd put into paying for it are no good! I've had nothing but trouble with this crew!

My husband is in the construction trade and in the past 4 years has been laid off for over half that time. Green Tree is our 2nd mortgage. While he has been laid off we usually fall behind a month or 2 and when he gets back to work we always catch up. I always call them and tell the problem we are having and they used to be very undestanding. However this last time my husband was laid off they have been absolutely unbearable to deal with and due to the rudeness of Mr. Lopez I will not speak to them.

For the last 4 months we have been caught up, but now if the payment is not in by the due date (we are sometimes a week or 2 late) they begin to call daily, 3,4,5 times a day. Is this not harassment? Also in speaking with S. Lopez he told me that if we did not make a full payment (more then what my husband was making on unemployment), they would foreclose on our house. I was told by our 1st mortgage they could not do this. When I told him we could not do this he proceeded to tell me that we have no business owning a home! We have owned our home for 13 years, it is a very modest home, and when my husband is employed he makes 75,000.

Mr. Lopez then went on to tell me that maybe my husband should look into collections for a job, because that is where the work is! I was totally appalled! I then told him that as soon as we get on our feet we will be refinancing this loan and he won't have to deal with us any longer. He told me that we will will never be able to do that because no bank will ever touch us again! I feel this man should be sued for harassment. This is no way to speak with a customer, furthermore a customer that is having a very rough time and struggling just to get by.

We do not ignore our bills, feel horrible that we are unable to pay them in full and plan on catching them all up as soon as we are able. Every other bank and company has worked with us, except Green Tree. I forgot to mention that Mr. Lopez would call us at least 5, 6 times a day, was calling my mom's house and demanding to speak with us, and then would even call from his cell phone, maybe in order to fool us as to who was calling! They are horrible, and have caused us way more stress then we need at this time!

I fell behind in payments -Ive always paid them Ive faxed them and Spoke to them & asked them not to call our work and today after everything they called again 1-6-09. I have been warned & I told them that besides its hard to let co -workers know you 're falling behind on your bills. They said than pay your bill. They are way out of control -- I let them go in our checking and than pay 14.00. I dont have just to stop them from calling

I'm going to loose my JOB! Theyre making me a nervous wreck
