Greentree's troubled portfolio of mobile-home loans was sold to Conseco a few years ago, leading to the third-largest bankruptcy in U.S. history. Conseco has rid itself of Greentree as part of the bankruptcy proceeding, leaving customers in a fog, as these consumer reports show.
Michelle of Benton, AR December 30, 2008
Michelle of Benton AR (12/30/08) I have been dealing with several individuals from Greentree over the last 9 years I have had the home. It has been nothing but a headache. I never had any problems with the home until I decided to move out and rent the home. My renter was to pay Greentree direct. After a year and a half, I got a call. Greentree called to let me know that she was behind in her payments. They waited until she was 3 months behind to call me. So, I evicted her, remodeled the home and made all the repairs then moved my family in. I have been living in the home again since 2005.
At the end of 2007, I became unemployed. I fell behind in the payments by 2 months. I have since been making the payments but continue to have the 2 months. I have never been 3 months or more behind in my payments. As of this last month, I have tried on several occassions to make payment arrangements with Will J. in their Arlington, Texas office. Whenever I call him, I always get his voicemail. Always. He has called my neighbors, he has called my parents on their cell phones and harassed my mother at work. He has called my grandmother and made her worry that I would be in some sort of trouble if I didn't talk to him.
During the Christmas break, he has repeatedly called my home and cussed out my 14 yr old daughter. He told her that he knows she knows my work number and that she's lying about giving me the messages. I've told her to not even answer the phone when he calls. He has now started using a direct number in Dallas to call us from. I have considered passing the number out to various friends, strangers, weirdos and message boards so that he can get the harassing phone calls he has given me.
I am considering filing bankruptcy but I have noticed from the other complaints posted, this doesn't make them go away. How is it that the government can bail out the mortgage companies but fail to realize how the mortgage companies are treating the consumers? I have filed complaints with the Arkanas Attorney General's Office and have had a hard time filing one with the Attorney General of Texas. I have also written to every Congressman and Senator for my state. What is it going to take to stop the bullying by Greentree and all of its employees? Who are the blackhearted individuals that work for this company? Evelyn of Newville, PA December 30, 2008
Evelyn of Newville PA (12/30/08) We have a mobile home financed thru Green Tree which has the highest interest rates around. I always mail my check in plenty of time so it gets to them, I could drive there in 4 hours from my house but they claim it takes them 10 days to receive it by mail. Today I got a phone call from them about the check that I mailed them for December 2008's payment.
First I was told that the check was returned for NSF and I said that is impossible, I said I don't write checks if I don't have the money, the man said well did you have money in the account when you wrote it, and I said Yes I did, he got very smart with me. He then transferred me another customer help person and she told me that my check was returned because my husband's business account was closed. I said this is rediculous. Then she proceded to say that they would not accept any more checks from us, we had to send a money order. We told her that we were not sending any money order, we've had this loan for 10 years now and always paid our payments on time and our account was not closed nor was their NSF. So she said we could give her our debt card (which comes out of the same checking account the check did) for the payment and their would be a 10.00 charge for taking it over the phone.
We immediately called our bank and our bank said that check never even came to the bank to be processed, so we called Green tree back and this time they said they sent it to our bank two times and it was returned for NSF two times, it no longer was that our account was closed. They lie. They should be put out of business.
This bank has caused me nothing but grief and stress over things that I know are not true and they accuse you of and they talk to you terribly over the phone, not nice people at all. I'm disabled and take several pills for anxiety/stress, depression/panic attacks, etc., this is all I need is to be called by a bank that accuses you of either writing a NSF check or that your business account is closed and they want their money NOW. Lois of Check, VA December 29, 2008
Lois of Check VA (12/29/08) I bought my doublewide in 1998 and financed it with GreenTree. Since that time, even though I have paid on time and even tried to pay extra against the principal (which was applied to interest) my balance has gone up instead of down. As it appears now I will never get this mortage loan paid off. Their method of interest accounting is absolutely unlegal. Have never heard of this type of thing happening except with GreenTree
the mortgage loan will never be paid off and I am paying an extreme amount of interest to this company. Amy of Renfrew, PA December 24, 2008
Amy of Renfrew PA (12/24/08) As I have read in so many of the other complaints, my situation is similar. I have had some medical issues and had to quit my previous job. I went back to school to better myself and work two part-time jobs. I have fallen behind on two months payments and I have tried to work with them on previous occasions to make an adjustment to my payments but to no avail.
Bridgette calls me at least three times a day and leaves nasty messages saying that if I don't pay now, they are sending someone out to my house. The last time I was behind on payments, I had to choose between feeding my family or paying the payment. She actually told me to go to a soup kitchen. I was so upset that I physically got sick. I am trying the best that I can to make a better life and Greentree is trying to make that impossible. I am so sick of the harassment!! Can anyone do anything to stop this horrible company?
Romanda of Monticello, AR December 23, 2008
Romanda of Monticello AR (12/23/08) Our moblie home loan was sold to Green Tree by CIT and since it was sold, we have caught nothing but HELL from Green Tree. I make my payments by the 31st of every month (they are due on the 18th) but, the day after the 18th of every month, they start calling me and leaving messages on my cell phone. They say,I do not need directions to the property, I already know where it is.
All I need for you to do is give me a call so that I can make sure the house is evacuated before we come and pick it up. They also threathen to take my property as well, not even realizing that the property is not tied to trailer. I am fed up with Green Tree and wondering if what they are doing is legal.
As a result of all of the harassing phone calls, I now take medicaication for stress and anixtey disorders.
