Penny of Fairfield, OH January 31, 2009
Penny of Fairfield OH (01/31/09) I had wind damage from hurricane Ike in Sept. I received an insurance check from my insurance company made payable to myself and HSBC. Before I mailed the check I called customer service to find out what address I should send it to for signature. The woman I spoke to gave me an address to mail the check. It turned out to be a payment center.
I did not sign the check and the back of the check says it must be endorsed by all parties. I also stapled a letter of instructions to the check. Also, my account number was not displayed on the check or in the letter. So what I want to know is what person in thi company took it upon themselves to: 1. Ignore the letter of instruction? 2. Do enough research to find my account information? 3. Apply the amount of the check to my mortgage payment and apply the remainder to principal? 4. Go ahead and process the check without my signature?
I feel this is completely unacceptable procedure. Further more when someone sends in a payment over the amount doesnt it have to be spelled out where that overage needs to be applied? Who is this person that took all of this upon themselves to play with my money? I waited weeks for this check to come back so I could proceed with repairs to my home. This delay has cost me time and money out of pocket that should not have happened. Contractors do not work for free and expect to be paid. I paid them upfront thinking this check would be in the mail any day.
After calling the customer service department I was told that it apparently it does not mater if you send a note with a check it is ignored. So, I now question if they hire people that do not speak English, or simply can not read. After numerous phone calls I finally spoke to someone that had some sense. At which time I had to get a copy of the endorsed check from my insurance company and fax it in with a letter of explaination. After a couple of days I called again. I was told that the department handling my request was unclear as to what I wanted. I am certain they hire people that can't read.
I did get my check back but it took a month. So now I have another insurance check. I held up on paying my Jan. mortgage because I knew I would be getting another check made payable the same way. Now I am told in order for them to endorse it and send it back to me I need to pay my Jan. paymemt. I wanted them to apply my Jan. payment out of the check and send me the balance. They did that with the first check by mistake but since it was done in error they can't apply it to my mortgage. Even though this check is a reimbursement to me because I have already paid out of pocket to the contractors. Instead they said they would apply it all to my principle and my Jan. payment would still be due. Their sugestion is for me to borrow my Jan. payment from someone. There must be some way around all this.

Garth of Redlands CA (11/12/08) When my wife found out that HSBC had bought our home loan, she cried. She had dealt with these corporate colostomy bags before. We get calls all day, everyday, weeks BEFORE our payment is due. WE ARE FED UP! They are rude, vile, subhuman and their tactics are reprehensible.
Carla of Miami, FL October 16, 2008
Carla of Miami FL (10/16/08) we co singed for brother inlaw to help him recieve financeing and they illegally changed it to him being the primary we have tried to get a payment plan inwriting along with a statement saying that they would not file a judgement against our home.we have asked to speak to someone like a supervisor or a director but they say that the customer service rep is in more power than a supervisor or director. what can we do these people are not being professional about the matter and are not being resonable
by them saying that they can't give us a statement let alone a leter they are making it hard for us to get a house and to talk to anyone thats in charge or thats over them please help and give us the advice that we need to proceed about the mater in really desperate help R.g. of New Windsor, NY August 20, 2008
R.g. of New Windsor NY (08/20/08) When I went to HSBC, they had a sign in there store that read, Open a checking account with us and we will take 500.00 off your closing cost! Wow! So I did. On the day of my closing, guess what they offered me? 200.00. So I told them to keep it.
Also, the bank officer never informed me of the village taxes that I would be responsible for. Okay... so maybe by now your saying that was my responisibilty. Ok...So I called HSBC the following seven months to inquire about my village taxes, because I did not want any surprises in 12 months. So every month, I'd call HSBC to ask, guys did you take money out of my account for my villages taxes, because I don't want any surprise later? Yes! Was always there response. On the 12 month, HSBC wrote me a letter stating that my taxes were not taken out of my escrow and now I would have an 218.19 increase in my mortgage. I am soooo fed up with this bank and I am a first time home buyer, and I would not recommend this bank to the devil's niece.
Once again because of HSBC, I have not been able to go on a vaction, because they keep increasing my loan at the time of my vacation period. They have lied to me many times, and my student loans will now have to suffer because I had the increase with HSBC. Please somebody hold them accountable for what they have done.
