Lending Tree

Mark of Riverview FL (04/11/09)
I used Lending Tree because they claim when banks compete, you win. Well that is just nonsence. They fail to say that Lending Tree requires the broker you finally choose to charge the customer 600 in the closing. So where is the savings? In my case I did a refinance cash out so that I could use the money to help my mother buy a house. I continually let my broker know I needed the money soon sor her closing, so when it came time for me to lock in the rate and send my documents to underwriting, they said it would take 3-4 weeks. And I only had 2 weeks left.

So they then used a different bank that could process it faster but at a higher interest rate. So in the end I had to pay an extra 1,400 to get the rate they originally promised me. And there closing cost were outragious. I paid 8,000 closing cost (not including taxes and escrow) for a 138,000 loan. I'll never use Lending Tree again and I hope word gets out how crooked they are.

Ended up paying huge closing costs which over 30 years will be even more outragious.

I wanted to refinance on my home and decided to go through Lending Tree. Bad idea! I put a deposit of 400 down to lock in may rate and also to secure an appraisal of my home. I was never made aware that the deposit was non-refundable. I was led to believe that the money would be returned if the loan fell through for any reason. I told the agent that I was doing construction on my home at the time and he said that would not be a problem. Then several months later, he calls me and tells me that the loan cannot be processed because he could not extend the loan period anymore. I asked about the refund of my 400 and he told me that he going to get the money back to me.

That was almost two years ago. I have been chasing Lending Tree ever since trying to recover my 400. I have been calling them, writing them, and even contacted Better Business Bureau about them. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same problem as I have. Also, if anyone is thinking of refinancing their home, do not go through Lending Tree!

I am out 400. It may not seem like a lot of money to some but it is to me! Every time I think about my situation, I get this pain and sick feeling in my stomach. I'm tired of being ripped off by these large companies that more or less, take your money and run!

I contacted lending through continental web site to apply for access to a real estate agent being promised milage credits for a home I was going to purchase using their referred real estate agent. the agent was contact, who in tern contacted me. The home was purchased and closed. No miles were ever awarded. Upon follow up contact I was told that I did not request the miles. NOT SO! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH LENDING TREE!

I have read all these complaints about Lendingtree and for once I am thankful I didnt fall into the trap. I did contact them like the rest of you guys did about refinancing and all I got was some clown from a company(one person office..can you say scam) who wanted to sell me on the idea of a loan modification for a paltry 2500...it took him 4 days to respond on top of that. I didn't realize until now just how much of a low life company LendingTree is. I plan to spread the word around to everyone I know NOT to deal with this company. I am sorry for all of you; I have fallen for scams before but this was one I avoided. I dont like that upfront fee of 600 either.

I applied for a personal load thru www.onlinelendingsource.com. I recevied an email from them saying that my application has been accepted by one of our affiliate lenders. They said they managed to secure an approval for my loan application through their affiliate The Lending Tree. Barbara Smith faxed me over some paper work to sign and fax back which I did. She said I had to wire 770 dollars to a person (Rose Newman) in Canada. This money was insurance on the loan. My wife sent the money as requested.

The 5000 dollar loan was suppose to be wired to our checking acount the next business day. That did not happen. I spoke with Barbara again and she said that due to my credit not being so great that I would need to wire an additional 780 for insurance to secure the loan. She said they are an affiliate of The Lending Tree. The fax letter head has the lending tree logo on it. I called the lending tree and was told that this is a scam and this is not part of the lending tree or has anything to due with the lending tree. The lending tree told me that they have received many complaints about this person and I should make a formal complaint about this person.

At this time my wife and I are out 784.16. My checking acount is now going to be overdrawn and fees will be added because of this.
