Money Mart

Cathy of Mesa, AZ November 10, 2009

Unfortunately I was forced to obtain a payday loan from Moneymart. Not only was I hospitalized shortly thereafter with a very serious infection following foot surgery, but I was on I.V. antibiotics for 6 weeks thereafter and also was laid off from my job. I talked with the local Moneymart office and they were less then understanding. They promptly referred my file to the "Corporate office". Again...I was very ill. They would begin calling at 8:00am, many times they would call and hang up, they would call and there would be a recording in Spanish (of which I do not speak)or one specific time when my nurse was at my home and she was trying to use my cell phone to call out to my physician with questions about my medication. She was using my cell phone because she could not get a signal in my home. She kept trying to call out and they would be on the other end and they would tell her to tell me to pay my bills, and when she would hang up, they would call back and this went on several times until she finally was able to call out they then left several messages telling me I better never hang up on them again.

During this time they kept redepositing my check although I told them it would not clear, which resulted in hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees. They continue to call me at least 20 to 30 times a day. They call and hang up, they call with a Spanish message. Sometimes I talk with someone and tell them the story, they tell me to have a yard sale and other such rude comments. Call me a dead beat etc. Sometimes they attempt to transfer me to an "Account manager" and many times they will cut me off and call me back and tell me I better wait to talk with them. I talk with them, and again am forced to deal with the rude comments. And they will then call back in 20 or 30 minutes and the process starts all over. Are they kidding? Money Mart also apparently operates under several different names and would attempt electronic deposits under different names and different amounts so I could not stop payment on any of these actions.

I got a loan from Money Mart in June of this year. I was unable to pay it b ack on time because of a run of bad luck....my fiance had heart surgery and I had to take time off to take care of him for which I wasnt insured. When I returned to work I started giving them what I could...only to harrassed by phone calls because I wasnt giving them enough. Recently I fell ill to the flu and was out of work for 3 weeks so once again I was unable to pay. I called them to let them know what was going on and they put me thru to the person handling my case...his name was Alan. He was rude from the start...telling me to pay my friggin bills. Like this guy even knows me..and then when I asked him if he could just send me a statement explaining my payments and the interest so I could see a credit counselor with it and see the best way to pay them back. He responded that he didnt owe me any favors. He spent the rest of my day calling me and swearing at me over the phone...this is suppose to be a company. They are unprofessional and the law needs to step in where they are concerned.

We recieved a payday loan from money mart and were not able to pay it all back. After aproximately a month of calling the actual branch and explaining our situation and that we would slowly pay it back A.S.A.P. it went into what they refered to as the next stage. I spoke with a gentleman by the name of Nicholas from what i assume was a head office and we agreed to make a payment plan to clear up this ever expanding debt in payments. He told me to discuss our finances with my husband and come up with an amount that we could pay on it every month and to call him back and leave a detailed message about what we had decided on over the weekend and that he would be in touch with us that monday. He assured me that everything would be fine.

He actually went as far as to say " don't worry about it that much and have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine" He told me that it hadn't actually gone to collections yet and as long as we made payment arrangements everything would be great. Well, what a lie that was! We packed up our infant Twin sons and headed out to do our weekly grocery shop and whatnot and while attempting to withdraw from our account found that our balance was not only at 0.00 but was in the negatives. They emptied our entire account on the same day that I had spoken with Nicholas. Now we are left with nothing.

I realize the money was owed but we feel robbed. I would understand this action against us if we were attempting to skip out on this loan but we wanted to pay it off and returned every call made to us. I feel wronged because Nicholas and I spoke and he assured me that all would be O.K. and that we could set up arrangements that worked for all of us. He assured me that this situation had not gone so far that we could not fix it. In the end the money was just taken from our account without any warning or consideration for our wellbeing. This was wrong on so many levels and has left us with absolutely nothing.

I wrote a check to an individual who went to this company to get the check cashed. I got a message from nichole asking to call regarding the check. In the time it took me to call back the individual who I wrote the check for had already left and this company no longer needed any information from me. However Nichole insisted that she needed my PIN number for my bank account to verify funds for the cashing of my check which was no longer being processed. I told her I would not give her the information.

I called back and asked for a manager and got Debbie who told me she needed the information due to the amount of fraud they have been experiencing. These guys were trying to get my money. They had no legitimate reason to ask for that information. If they are a legitimate check cashing operation then they have other means to legally verify my funds. BEWARE!

Fortunately none at all. I am of minimal intelegence and can see so obvious a scam comming. If you read this just beware. These leaches are everywhere1

I received my first call from this company 2 weeks ago. I came home to a message on my home phone (which only 2 people know the # of) telling me that I had business with them at one of their money mart locations and that I had to contact him in 7 business days. I've never used a pay day loan service, much less this specific one. I checked my credit report and rechecked my bank statements and found nothing so I ignored it. Got a second call a week later which I also ignored.

Then last night I received yet another call. This time it was from someone with Dollar Financial Group, which apparently owns money mart. They had a very aggressive and harassing tone in their voice and left a message to the effect of Look, this has gone on long enough and you need to take care of this now, etc. I've yet to receive any actual written statement for this but decided I'd had enough of the calls.

I called the number this afternoon. When calling, they immediately ask for your social security #. Now, I don't know who goes around saying their social security # of the phone but I sure don't. Asked them to look up the number they were calling and it wasn't in their system. The person I spoke with said if I gave them my full name and address they could remove me. I asked him if it's possible to do this without giving them personal info or to just be placed on their state do not call list. He laughed and told me to report him and hung up. This company is incredibly shady and I'm tired of this. I'll be filing a complaint with the state as well as the BBB and State Attorney General.

I had been stuck in the payday loan loop for a couple of months. Unfortunately due to unfortunate circumstances my cheque bounced. I was contacted by Money Mart a few days later and informed them that I would pay part of the 800+ bill that I owed. I explained that I planned to pay them 100 every two weeks until it was paid off. They accepted in the end and I went on my merry way. On that friday, I went to the bank to withdrawl my rent and 100 for money mart when I suddenly realized there was only 180 dollars in my account. Money Mart had re-deposited the check without my permission. I had made a payment arrangement with them and they broke it by depositing the check.

Money Mart contacted me today saying I owe them for NSF and interest. I told them that since they did not get permision to withdrawl anything from my account that I will not pay.

Unfortunately I could not pay rent this week and it will have to wait until next payday. My landlord is not happy with me right now with good reason. All my bills are going to be late because of this.
