Red Cedar Bank
Boyceville, WI

Francesca of Ridgeland, WI, writes:
I am a dairy farmer and sold my cows last January. I have my real estate and chattel loan with Red Cedar Bank. In March I asked Steve to loan me $30,000 for 90 days to buy back cows. $20,000 of this note would have been paid back at the end of 90 days after I sold my heifers.

I got all of my paper work in before April 12th like Steve had asked so he could review it before it went to the bank board. Well, after April 12th Steve told me he wouldn't have time to go over my loan application and he wanted Jim the Ag loan officer to work with me. Since Steve said this I have been put off by both Steve and Jim.

I can tell that they do not want to loan me the money. I have plenty of collateral. I did submit to them a cash flow that did work on milking cows at $10.50 a hundred weight. Also, in Feb., March and April, I wrote a check to pay my loans or Steve took the money out of my checking and each time he did I asked him if I was paid up on my loans and he said "yes".

I just found out that I am a month behind on my payments and a woman named Betty at Red Cedar Bank showed how it happened and Steve should have seen this while he was looking at my accounts on the computer. So either he can't read the computer or he lied to me.

The effect of them not doing anything for about the past 2 months has denied me an income. I believe it is a woman thing or a dairy farmer thing. I feel discriminated against and I am not having my loan application being serviced in a timely manner.

It certainly sounds like the bank is reluctant to process Francesca's loan. The question is whether it's also stalling other loan applicants. Perhaps Francesca could talk with some other dairy farmers and see how they're handling their financing needs.
