US Bank

evelyn of kansas city, KS April 30, 2009

U.S bank, worst customer service and a horrible experience. I have been charged 6, 35 overdraft charges in 2 days. After the first 4 charges, I called customer service and asked if the charges were reasonable and the representative I talked acknowledged that the charges were unreasonable and there was nothing he could do about it.By this time, all I had was one pending transaction.

That same evening, I deposited money into the account resulting into a positive balance. Thinking all was well, I logged into my account the following day to find I had been charged 2 more overdraft charges. I called customer service AGAIN , the lady I talked to provided pathetic customer service and all she could do was waive one fee. I had had enough went to the branch bank and closed the account. They did'nt even care to find out why the account was being closed. By the way I had been a customer for 6 years and this was the first time I was charged any overdraft fees. I also have a credit card and I make my parents promptly. I guess they didn't value my business, or my business was not worth their time.

Ryan St. Arnold of Saint Cloud, MN April 22, 2009

A customer of US Bank for about 3 years, I have progessively noticed a problem with their customer service and handling of overdrafts. I am a college student with very limited income. As of current, the credit markets have been in horrible shape, limiting the amount of supplemental loans I can obtain for living expenses. For the entire school year I have been living off part-time paychecks at a retail outlet, scraping by.

Recently, my account was overdrawn by a few dollars, either a simply mistake, or resulting from the bank's constant effort to alter your payment postings and screw you with overdrafts. This small error turned into a catastrophe. They swallowed my entire paycheck, I have nothing to live off--no food, gas, or money for rent this month.

As of today, the bank has charged a total of 22 overdraft charges amounting to about 825 just in the last 5 days. I haven't even used my account for a week and I'm getting bombarded with overdrafts every day! I stopped in the bank--they won't do a thing, won't even reverse one charge! They actually told me the bank does not profit from this, and proceeded to blame me for everything. I'm sure. With good faith I can live up to maybe 2 overdrafts, but 22? Are you kidding? This is absolutely ludacris, this corporation is a bunch of crooks!

I am considering court over this, and am already in the process of switching banks. Five star customer service guarantee? False. They have been consistently rude to me and have zero consideration for my situation. Their repuation is growing worse because of situations like this and I hope to see them go down in flames as a result of their shady business practices.

I opened an account due to a promotion of US Bank adding 50 to my account if I would just open the account and spend 50. I went back to the Gilroy branch to see about my 50. The guy looked up my account and told me he added my 50. I went shopping, actually BELIEVING that he DID add 50 and so I had it to spend. US Bank, however, did not recognize the deposit and began charging me overdraft fees and daily overdraft charges, etc.

At one point it totaled 120. I have no idea what has happened since. Calls were not returned, endless denials that the teller actually deposited this money after which I began shopping -- in the Safeway store where the US Bank was located. Many more details and convolutions could be added, but the essence was that I was told 50 was added and apparently it wasn't, allowing them to charge all sorts of bogus charges. Instead of attempting to straighten it out, I just got a blank wall and meaningless apologies because nothing changed.

I am completely disgusted and feel completely betrayed by this company. They offered the penalty of my not being able to open other accounts. Why would I want ANYTHING to do with US Bank ever again? Plus, they've apparently bought Downey Savings, with whom I planned more business -- guess NOT! America does NOT need this kind of sniveling shabby treatment from such a shoddy bank. They'll go bankrupt for good reason. I'll never do business with them again. There needs to be a class action suit against this bank. I've never seen such a thing. I thought there were laws to protect us against this kind of underhanded scam artists.

My husband and I applied for a loan modification for our adjustable ARM loan. We qualify because we have had a severe drop in our income due to a job loss. We gathered all of the necessary and required papers. But alas, we were denied! Because we didn't meet their "delinquency" rules. Yes, you have to be delinquent on your mortgage in order to qualify for a loan modification. What about all that TARP money, and the banks who took that money? Don't they have to help us? There's a loophole in my case. In my case, Downey, our mortgage holder, was taken over or bought by US Bank. US Bank took TARP money, so you would think they would be bound by the TARP rules. But they aren't. They claim that since Downey didn't take TARP money, the Downey customers basically aren't afforded the same consideration as a US Bank customer. They also tell me that Downey no longer exists, but we still make our checks out to Downey. Also, the letter telling us we were turned down because we aren't delinquent? It came on US Bank letterhead in a US Bank envelope. Sounds to me like they are having their cake and eating it too. We can reapply for a modification in August which will be 9 months before our loan resets to its permanent new high. Meanwhile, we are spending half of my disability income every month on a mortgage payment and my husband is unemployed and has had to go back to school to figure out a new career. We did not buy a house we couldn't afford, and we've lived here 21 years. We WANT to pay for our home and we don't want to lose it. I think it's really scary that these banks are being allowed to use loopholes to avoid helping people like us. We're middle class, not behind on our mortgage (but that may soon change) and want to stay in our home, and have no intention of filing for bankruptcy. We were sold a really bad loan product like a lot of other Americans.

Arianda of Houston, TX April 21, 2009

I received a work transfer after living in my home for 9 years. I immediately placed the home on the market for sale, but due to the economic crash. I wanted to rent my house since I couldn't sell it. As soon as US Bank received my change of address, they immediately sent my a letter indicating that I was violating the terms of my mortgage by not residing in the home and if I didn't provide a good reason, they could call the loan due and payable and foreclose. I sent them a response with my situation and they granted me a 6 month vacancy.

When I indicated that I wanted to rent the home and asked if I needed to send them any documentation (AZ requires you register the home with the assessors office), US Bank said I could not rent the home and they could foreclose if I did. I explained to US Bank that if I couldn't rent the home, I would not be able to continue to make payments. I was using my Line of Credit to maintain the payments and property. US Bank continued to threaten to foreclose if I rented. I submitted in writing a request to rent the property, supported by FHA guidelines, but received no response from US Bank. Although I called them numerous times, they never once returned a call or responsed to any written requests.

I requested to speak to loss mitigation, refinancing, etc. US Bank would not work with me at all. In February of 2008, my line of credit was frozen and I no longer had the means to pay the mortgage, therefore, I did not make a payment beginning in March. As I have a legal plan available at work, I sent my mortgage contract to several attorneys for review. All have agreed that US Bank has been incorrect in their statements about the terms of the mortgage. I am NOT violating an occupancy clause and I CAN rent the property. (I can't rent right now because I no longer have the resources to maintain the property or make payments if the tenants fails to pay.)

As far as I'm concerned, US Bank has been lying about the terms of my mortgage in an effort to force foreclosure because I have an FHA loan. If I default, they file a claim and get the entire loan amount. I do not see any other reason why they would refuse to respond to my various requests, repeatedly send me harassing letters that I'm violating a nonexistent occupancy clause, and threaten to call the loan due and payable (foreclose). In addition, I find it interesting that they finally called me when I was past due and that now there are late fees. It appears they refuse to assist to force you to be late, then collect fees - an unethical way to do business. I have lost over 20,000 in rent, paid over 3,000 in fees to maintain the property which would have been borne by the tenant, and lost over 14,000 of payments to my line of credit which would have been made if I could have rented the property. I have also suffered damage to the property by vandalism since it is empty - which is the result of US Bank not allowing me to rent.

Gretel of San Diego, CA April 17, 2009

My boyfriend and I have had 4 accounts with U.S. Bank for nearly 3 years. The electrical company my boyfriend owns went to a standstill. I am a student and live off of student loans at the time. When his business started to falter, we had no money coming in. 3 of our accounts overdrew but by a few dollars. When we finally got the statements, we owe a total of 2,720.96 to U.S. Bank. The total deposits we made from January to March were over 3000.00 the total amount of fees that U.S. bank charged us total over that. Currently our accounts have been charged off.

When we tried to settle the account, I received a very nasty response from the customer sevice rep. I spoke with. Our bank manager told us that they typically will settle for 40% of the total debt. When I spoke to this man, he told me several things. At first he said they could settle for 40% of the total, then he said 35% of the total, then when I said we could actually pay 35% of the total he told me that it was not 35% of the total to settle for but a 35% discount.

Prior to the charge offs, U.S. Bank in Dec. of 2007 took 2000.00 from our account (it disappeared) if I had not kept the receipts that the teller gave me, we never would have gotten our money back. During the 2 weeks it took us to get our money back we incurred overdraft charges of nearly 600. In Sept. 2007, I was still working and received direct deposit. I had close to 1,600 directly depositted into our account 2 times a month. My boyfriend had approximately the same in direct deposit.

However, U.S. Bank would accept our funds, then when we used the money to pay our bills, they would charge us overdraft fees. We calculated the fees and they were over 1000 for one month. How much did we overdraw? 0.00. The only reason we were overdrawn was because U.S. Bank kept charging us fees. At this point, our credit is completely ruined, we have no way of paying the 2,720.96 to U.S. Bank. They want us to make payments to them, but we don't even owe that amount of money. We tried to settle for 35% of the total debt.

When we agreed to the 35% of the total we accepted and then the offer was quickly rescinded and I was told it was my fault for opening an account. I told the man that I knew of fees but that the fees the bank charges are excessive. He replied well, honey, you signed the contracts when you opened the account. you knew our policies. I never would have opened an account with a bank if I new that we would have had to pay them nearly 6000 in fees in the 3 years we have had these accounts.

three years of having accounts with U.S. Bank nearly 6,000.00 in fees. Account charged off and now they say we owe 2,720.00

U.S.Bank, granted me a Checking Account advance in the amount of 500.00, until my next direct deposit. At which time the 500.00, will be repaid to U.S.Bank, along with an additional fee of 50.00. My U.S.Banking account online allows me to make this advance. April 1, 2009, it was a Wednesday afternoon, I requested the advance of 500.00 into my checking account. I knew I would need this advance since, I had more expenses that I needed to pay. The amount then transfered into my checking. Before the advance the balance was 855.00. After the Advance the balance was 1355.00 I checked this account the evening of April 1, 2009 and the balance was at 1355.00. I was on a field trip for the next two days with students.

April 3, I checked my account and to my horror my checking account indicated I was minus 655.00. I immediately called USBank, and was told that the advance was never done. I tried to tell them what the situtation was, but they said they could not help! me. I called several times over the next two days, but could not get anyone to listen to my situation. I have since checked my balance and it is now at minus 955.00. I have not written any more checks or taken any deposits, the amount grew due to over drafts on the account. I feel this was very dishonest of USBank to do this to me.

Im a single parent and for the next two pay checks I won't beable to pay my bills or pay for food on the table. Describe what happened that was inappropriate: April 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 2009. I have contacted customer service and the Branch in Mesa, that I opened my account. I tried to talk to Dave and he was very rude and would not help me. Current status of the problem: I believe more customers have experienced this with USBank. Lastly, I have paid all the overdrafts and my account is now in the positive. However, Dave promised to credit my account two over drafts credit. It is April 15, and he still has not completed the credits he promised.

I'm a single mother and I have one disabled son and another child in high school. I need my money back to help my disabled son. He has no food. I have no money to buy food for me or my daughter. I cannot pay my rent. I cannot pay my bills. I need to this money for medical bills and car repairs.

Linda of Des Moines, IA April 14, 2009

this is for my Daughter, her husband banks at US Bank in Fairfield, Iowa. Recently, they had an overdraft on their checking account. They were charged the usual 37.00 overdraft fee. But they are charged this same fee everyday there is a negative balance, also, they are charged a negative balance fee of 8.00. My daughter put 500.00 in the aaccount and is still at a negative 70.00 which means they will be charged 37.00 a day until next week when her husbands check is direct depoisted. His hours have been cut way back, so now every dime will be gone to pay these excessive overdraft charges, and they will be going without food, phone, and probably now, no lights. I have helped all I am able to, but I am on a fixed income. I feel like they arte just being victimized, what, if anything can be done to stop this?? Please help!! I'm begging as a Mom that loves her daughter and grandsonso much and hate seeing them have to suffer like this.

This has caused them to be behind in rent, because they never gert ahead. also, they have no food, because they have no money left to buy groceries, their power is going to be turned off any day, and their phone. They have had no propane all winter because they can't afford to fill the tank because there is never any money left.

Julee of Rogue River, OR April 11, 2009

I received notice that my US Bank visa was sent to the US Bank own collections department, and I would no longer be receiving any bills. I contacted US Bank to discuss my payments. I also received a notice that if I paid at least 500.00 towards my visa credit card that I would receive a 500.00 credit toward late fees etc. I was able to pay off my credit card in full, for much larger than the 500.00. Yet US BANK refuses to give me the 500.00 credit as per the letter they sent me.

Miss McVey who I contacted said because I paid off my balance owed (over 12,000) that they US Bank weren't going to give me the 500.00 credit.Even though the US Bank paper states that if I made my payment prior to June 2009 I would receive this credit towards my account. Pretty much that is FRAUD. This was a deception letter used to obtain funds, with a fraudulent statement.

I contacted the Department of Justice in my state and they sent me a letter thanking me for my complaint and let US Bank know that I complained. Noothing has happend and US Bank still refuses to provide me with the 500.00 credit that was offered. How many other people have been scammed by this letter?

500.00 credit towards late fees, overdrafts per US Banks letter. A refund of my 500.00 per their letter they sent me.

Martha of Templeton, CA April 3, 2009

This bank purchased my loan from Downey Savings. My original loan was approved based on frauduent information produced by the loan officer without my knowledge. The false information was in regard to mt monthly income. The loan officer lied about my monthly income. He increased the amount by 3000.00. I could not afford the payments and had to move out and rent my house so I would not to forclose. I am moving back in, but US Bank will not work with me. I quailify for the government program to assist homeowners and would like my loan corrected.

I was cheated by the mortgage industry and it has caused me finanical difficulties. I do not want to lose my house. I should have been treated fairly from the beginning. Thank You.
