evelyn of kansas city, KS April 30, 2009 U.S bank, worst customer service and a horrible experience. I have been charged 6, 35 overdraft charges in 2 days. After the first 4 charges, I called customer service and asked if the charges were reasonable and the representative I talked acknowledged that the charges were unreasonable and there was nothing he could do about it.By this time, all I had was one pending transaction. That same evening, I deposited money into the account resulting into a positive balance. Thinking all was well, I logged into my account the following day to find I had been charged 2 more overdraft charges. I called customer service AGAIN , the lady I talked to provided pathetic customer service and all she could do was waive one fee. I had had enough went to the branch bank and closed the account. They did'nt even care to find out why the account was being closed. By the way I had been a customer for 6 years and this was the first time I was charged any overdraft fees. I also have a credit card and I make my parents promptly. I guess they didn't value my business, or my business was not worth their time. Ryan St. Arnold of Saint Cloud, MN April 22, 2009
Recently, my account was overdrawn by a few dollars, either a simply mistake, or resulting from the bank's constant effort to alter your payment postings and screw you with overdrafts. This small error turned into a catastrophe. They swallowed my entire paycheck, I have nothing to live off--no food, gas, or money for rent this month. As of today, the bank has charged a total of 22 overdraft charges amounting to about 825 just in the last 5 days. I haven't even used my account for a week and I'm getting bombarded with overdrafts every day! I stopped in the bank--they won't do a thing, won't even reverse one charge! They actually told me the bank does not profit from this, and proceeded to blame me for everything. I'm sure. With good faith I can live up to maybe 2 overdrafts, but 22? Are you kidding? This is absolutely ludacris, this corporation is a bunch of crooks! I am considering court over this, and am already in the process of switching banks. Five star customer service guarantee? False. They have been consistently rude to me and have zero consideration for my situation. Their repuation is growing worse because of situations like this and I hope to see them go down in flames as a result of their shady business practices. Sandra of Carmel, CA April 22, 2009
At one point it totaled 120. I have no idea what has happened since. Calls were not returned, endless denials that the teller actually deposited this money after which I began shopping -- in the Safeway store where the US Bank was located. Many more details and convolutions could be added, but the essence was that I was told 50 was added and apparently it wasn't, allowing them to charge all sorts of bogus charges. Instead of attempting to straighten it out, I just got a blank wall and meaningless apologies because nothing changed. Nanci of Sacramento, CA April 21, 2009 My husband and I applied for a loan modification for our adjustable ARM loan. We qualify because we have had a severe drop in our income due to a job loss. We gathered all of the necessary and required papers. But alas, we were denied! Because we didn't meet their "delinquency" rules. Yes, you have to be delinquent on your mortgage in order to qualify for a loan modification. What about all that TARP money, and the banks who took that money? Don't they have to help us? There's a loophole in my case. In my case, Downey, our mortgage holder, was taken over or bought by US Bank. US Bank took TARP money, so you would think they would be bound by the TARP rules. But they aren't. They claim that since Downey didn't take TARP money, the Downey customers basically aren't afforded the same consideration as a US Bank customer. They also tell me that Downey no longer exists, but we still make our checks out to Downey. Also, the letter telling us we were turned down because we aren't delinquent? It came on US Bank letterhead in a US Bank envelope. Sounds to me like they are having their cake and eating it too. We can reapply for a modification in August which will be 9 months before our loan resets to its permanent new high. Meanwhile, we are spending half of my disability income every month on a mortgage payment and my husband is unemployed and has had to go back to school to figure out a new career. We did not buy a house we couldn't afford, and we've lived here 21 years. We WANT to pay for our home and we don't want to lose it. I think it's really scary that these banks are being allowed to use loopholes to avoid helping people like us. We're middle class, not behind on our mortgage (but that may soon change) and want to stay in our home, and have no intention of filing for bankruptcy. We were sold a really bad loan product like a lot of other Americans. Arianda of Houston, TX April 21, 2009 I received a work transfer after living in my home for 9 years. I immediately placed the home on the market for sale, but due to the economic crash. I wanted to rent my house since I couldn't sell it. As soon as US Bank received my change of address, they immediately sent my a letter indicating that I was violating the terms of my mortgage by not residing in the home and if I didn't provide a good reason, they could call the loan due and payable and foreclose. I sent them a response with my situation and they granted me a 6 month vacancy. When I indicated that I wanted to rent the home and asked if I needed to send them any documentation (AZ requires you register the home with the assessors office), US Bank said I could not rent the home and they could foreclose if I did. I explained to US Bank that if I couldn't rent the home, I would not be able to continue to make payments. I was using my Line of Credit to maintain the payments and property. US Bank continued to threaten to foreclose if I rented. I submitted in writing a request to rent the property, supported by FHA guidelines, but received no response from US Bank. Although I called them numerous times, they never once returned a call or responsed to any written requests. I requested to speak to loss mitigation, refinancing, etc. US Bank would not work with me at all. In February of 2008, my line of credit was frozen and I no longer had the means to pay the mortgage, therefore, I did not make a payment beginning in March. As I have a legal plan available at work, I sent my mortgage contract to several attorneys for review. All have agreed that US Bank has been incorrect in their statements about the terms of the mortgage. I am NOT violating an occupancy clause and I CAN rent the property. (I can't rent right now because I no longer have the resources to maintain the property or make payments if the tenants fails to pay.) As far as I'm concerned, US Bank has been lying about the terms of my mortgage in an effort to force foreclosure because I have an FHA loan. If I default, they file a claim and get the entire loan amount. I do not see any other reason why they would refuse to respond to my various requests, repeatedly send me harassing letters that I'm violating a nonexistent occupancy clause, and threaten to call the loan due and payable (foreclose). In addition, I find it interesting that they finally called me when I was past due and that now there are late fees. It appears they refuse to assist to force you to be late, then collect fees - an unethical way to do business. I have lost over 20,000 in rent, paid over 3,000 in fees to maintain the property which would have been borne by the tenant, and lost over 14,000 of payments to my line of credit which would have been made if I could have rented the property. I have also suffered damage to the property by vandalism since it is empty - which is the result of US Bank not allowing me to rent. Gretel of San Diego, CA April 17, 2009
