I received a Simon Mall US Bank gift card, VISA. I was sick with Cancer and didn't open cards till Dec 2008. There was a 100 Simon Mall Visa Gift Card. When I went to use the Visa Card I was the value left was just 31.85 which couldn't be used because it expired.

I got a postcard in the mail today from US BANK stating that I was overdrawn by .90 cents and that I needed to pay 35 dollars in an overdraft charge. So, I'm thinking, I guess I'm in the wrong and I'll just pay it. That's when I logged onto my bank account to see that my account is actually -105 dollars. So I come to grips with this and start looking down the list of expenses. Check this: On 3/20 I had 31.11 in my account The same day I make a charge goes through for 3.90 bringing my account to 27.21 Then an overdraft charge hits my account. (YES, WHILE IT IS POSITIVE) and sends it into the negative, charging me 2 more overdraft charges on two things that would have only left my account -.90 cents.
LET ME PUT THIS INTO PERSPECTIVE. You have 27 dollars in your account with 2 charges pending. 1 charge is for 26.08 the 2nd charge is for 2.03 If these charges were deducted from the 27.21 it would leave the account at -.90 cents. INSTEAD BEFORE the 26.08 was even deducted from the 27.21 that was in the account, the overdraft charge hit the account forcing it to go negative and to accrue an additional 2 overdraft charges.
THIS IS BAD BUSINESS. They refuse to refund my money and are seeing if I qualify for a reserve line, which they will divert the charges into if I do. This is beside the point. I don't mind paying 35 bucks for the overdraft! But to blatently restructure the priority of overdrafts versus charges to best benefit the bank is absolutely outrageous. I WILL TAKE THIS BANK TO COURT OVER THIS.

I, very recently, opened a checking account with US Bank. This was not my primary account, but an additional account for fun money. I had some difficulty setting up my on-line access and was unable to check the balance of the account on a regular basis. I was out shopping and swiped my card hoping that I had sufficient funds to cover everything. This, as an FYI, was an 8 purchase. The transaction was accepted and I went on my way.
A few days later, I received an overdraft notice in the mail, with a service fee attached, which brought the overdraft up to about 25. At the time I did not have available funds to fix the problem and just figured I would take care of the next payday. What I didn't know was that in the meantime, my account was being charged an additional overdraft fee of 8 per day. When I went to the bank, my account was in the hole a grand total of 127.41. Needless to say, they made a nice hefty sum of money off my small error. What I don't understand is why the transaction was not denied. Any other card transaction that I have ever had, tells me if there is a problem with the account, ie insufficient funds.
I was lucky, in that I had sufficient funds to zero out my account with them and will be closing the account in a few days, because it can't be closed while there is a pending transaction. I will be tightening my belt considerably this week as I had not counted on this expenditure.

On December 4th I have received an email notification from US Bank that my address on the checking and money market account has been changed and if this is not correct I need to come in to the branch. I left my work and went to the Rosemont location and talked to the branch manager Doug K. I explained my situation and told him to close the account as soon as possible even though some transactions are still pending. I was told that it will take up to 48 hours for the system to close this account. I advised him to close it so I can have this issue resolved by the end of the week.
Few weeks later I called d the customer service about my checking account and was told it is still open. She advised me to go to the branch and take care of this again which I did and again was told it will take up to 48 hours. I placed numerous phone calls to the customer service department, went to the branches few time and every single time I was told a different thing. All I wanted is to close my chcekcing account. I was finally promised it will be closed the same week.
Today is March 23, 2009, four months later and my checking account is still open. I just received a statement from US Bank saying my ending balance on the account is 0.28. I truly dont know what to do anymore. I called customer service so many times and visited the branches few times, talked to many people at US Bank and no one is able to close my account. I wonder how hard it is to close the checking account. On the top of that, US Bank never apologize for anything. I have been US Bank customer for over 6 years and I will never do any business with this institution again. Very bad & ignorant customer service!

On 03/04/2009 I went inside US Bank and made a 50 withdrawal and my balance was 104.46...at least that is what my check book balanced out..A couple of days later I received a overdraft letter in the mail..There records said something different..hey gave me a print out and shows that I was overdrawn at the time I went in and made a counter withdrawal of -35.74...I called there customer service line and the seem to not be able to figure it out so they the told me to go into the branch where I started my account and talk to the in person to see what was going on... I ask the teller to explain and she really didn't understand and I then ask the supervisor... her exact word was.. I can't tell you anything different then she just told you''
She then told me that she couldn't do anything about it the the era and overdraft charge but she will give a print out to her the manager that was not in that day and wouldn't be returning until the next day. I called the next day to see what did they come up with being that every day US Bank was charge me 35.00 a day in overdraft fees... He told said that I should have been notified when I went inside to make a withdrawal that my account was over drawn an he would reimbursed me 2 of 7 overdraft fees 35 fees... The reason why I was overdrawn was because US Bank bulk purchases that was made on later dates...so in other words... my account started a negative balance on 03-04-2009...even though I had a positive balance of 85.46 US Bank bulked charge of 86.21 + the teller withdrawal of 50... when I say bulk I really mean bulk... and this really has me confused... So I will explain and maybe you guys can better help me...on 03-03 a hold 6.97 and was payed out on 03-04.. on 03-04 a hold went out for a gas purchase 22.24 was payed out 03-05...on 03-04 49.07 payed out 03-06...on 03-05 22.64 was put on hold..03-06 payed out..on 03-05 9.98 was ut on hold... 03-06 was payed out..03-04 3.52 hold and on 03-06 it was payed out.. and that the order that is printed out.. and the bulked charge was 9.98, 49.07,22.64, 3.52, 1.00... was all charge a once on 03-04-2009... I was working in Nampa, ID in a Job Corps program. The program limits how much off-campus travel you can undertake. I also did not have a car at that time. While there, I asked my step-dad, who lived in Colbert, WA outside of Spokane, to deposit 40 into my account at U.S. Bank. The account was opened at the Millwood Branch at the address above. Unbeknownst to me, he only deposited 31. When I used the local ATM to withdraw 40, it told me there was insufficient funds, which I presumed was incorect as my dad was putting in the 40. I had heard nothing from him that would suggest that had not happened. Given our isolation at Job Corps, this was not surprising.
According to the bank's statement, the ATM withdrawal was for 42, which seems strange since I understood I could only take money out in 20 increments. The ATM fee was 2.00 for a total withdrawal cost of 44. or 13 (31. - 44) over what should have been available. I did not know the bank would allow you to take out money you did not have. I'm now 20 years old and this is the first account I have ever had. The withdrawal was made on April 14th, 2008. U.S. Bank charged a Overdraft Charge of 19.00 the next day or April 15th, 2008. This was followed by a series of Continuous Overdraft Fees charged over several days at 8.00 per fee. The final fee, which they called the Force-Closed Account Fee was for 30 on May 28.
I was charged 21 fees of 8.00 (168 total) plus 1 original overdraft fee of 19.00 plus 5 fees of 24.00 (120) plus 1 close out fee of 30.00 for a grand total of 337 in fees for a 13.00 overdraft in 6 weeks, which I figure is somewhere in the range of 225% interest rate. I would think this could be called involuntary, predatory lending. The account was formerly closed by the bank on May 28, 2008, while I was still at Job Corp and could not come back to Spokane to fix the situation.
Since returning to Spokane, I have moved in with a local family that is trying to help me get my life going again with a bank account, getting a job, paying off my car, helping me get health insurance and other life steps. My foster mom, program director for a local community center, has offered to be my protective payee and help with cleaning up my financial record and handling my paychecks. When we went into the bank to negotiate a lower settlement, we were informed that they could do nothing, that it was a function of the computer software and it had been turned over to a collection agency.
Nearly a year later, I have not been contacted by any collection agency. The bank said the only way we could fix it, would be to pay the 349 outstanding. I work 1/2 time at Taco Bell, a local fast food restaurant, and don't have enough money to pay it off. Furthermore, I was in a car accident three years ago and am trying to raise money for necessary physical therapy. I was living with my parents then and they didn't think I needed to see a doctor, so nothing was done. I now have both spinal and neck problems that are both limiting in motion and painful.
I tried to open a new checking account with a local credit union. I was denied the account with an accompanying letter that suggested I wouldn't be able to open one with any financial institution that was a member of the Chex system, kind of like the big 3 credit reporting systems. I want to have a checking account so I can better take care of my financial affairs. Currently I can only go to the bank that issues my paychecks in order to cash my paycheck. This makes it difficult to budget and track expenses, which doesn't help responsible spending. But until this issue is taken care of, I can't get one.

Basically I had 200 in my account, went out of state and charged about 190 on my card. Three Days Later I wrote a check for 50, knowing that I would get 1 overdraft fee - but it was for my Kids Healthcare so well worth it. US Bank pended all of my out of state transactions until they could strike! Then they reorganized the order of the payments so that the check came out first even though it was written 3 days after everything else causing 210 in overdraft fees. Most of them on 4-8 transactions.
I called the bank and they wont refund because it is not Bank Error I explained that their system reorganized the payments so they could get the most overdraft fees out of me. They replied with Well you should not have written that check then. Basically they are a preditor looking for legal ways to prey on the average American. Their customer service is very rude - and their banking methods are only there to steal from the innocent. I am closing my account and never banking there again. Its these types of policies that are going to put this bank under.
Due to the 210 loss my child will be eating ramen noodles as well as me for the next 3 weeks. Try explaining that to a 3 year old.

RE: OVERDRAFT CHARGES... I deposited my unemployment check today and asked the teller to provide me with the available balance, which she did, the available balance is 103.32, the POLTROONS held onto the reamining balance of my check. A couple of hours passed and I transferred 75.00 to my significant other's account to pay for my half of our grocery bill. I checked my account on line and noticed that the available balance was posted. I again cecked my checking on line and noticed that there was a -70 some dollars and my ending balance before the deposit was 3 and change.
At 7:02 pm (PST) I called the 24 hour customer service number and spoke with Chad. I questioned Chad as to the negative 70 something showing and what was the bank going to do about it. Chad stated, We are going to charge an overdraft because of the -70 something. Thats when steam blew from my head, I went off on Chad and questioned how was my account negative when I had made the deposit, asked the teller to give me the available balance and had enough funds to charge the 75.00. He said, I had made the transfer before the deposit BLATANT LIE, I told him that I'm aware of U.S. Bank's shady policies and practices and this was definetly one of them.
I asked for the phone number to file a consumer complaint against the bank and he proceeded to give me the phone number to my local bank which I told don't bother I can look that up on line. I again checked my account on line and noticed that the POLTROONS listed my deposit after I had made the transfer which was not the course of events. I have been cheated out of my unemployment money as a result of this type of practice US Bank conducts.
I'm livinig umemployment check to unemployment check. I have been looking for employment since April of 08 and U.S. Bank has cheated me, taking the food out of my mouth, bills and causing financial hardship to the point that I have had to starve just to avoid a 38.00 overdraft fee.
Crystal of El Cajon, CA February 27, 2009
I went to a US Bank Branch in El Cajon, CA and wanted to make a deposit of 1,056.22. The teller advised me only 100 would be available until the next business day. I asked her if I could just cash it and deposit it as cash. She said yes and the transaction was complete. I went to the mall to buy a few things and the next day when i checked my bank I was charged six overdraft fees of 37.50 each.
when i called the 800 number they said because only 100 was available and when i made purchases it made it become overdrawn. I stated to them the conversation I had with the teller the previous day and they said she did not deposit it as cash. They also said I couldn't cash a check for more than 500 without a hold. I told them if that was the case, the teller never told me that and if there was no way to have it all available I would have just waited another day to tap into it. I told them I wanted to file a complaint and some people were very helpful.
Although, it's been 4 days and no progress has been made. All i keep hearing is them telling me they're giving it to the attention of this person and that person. I am now short 225.00 because of they're error. My rent may be late and can get evicted and I am now late on bills. Also, check may bounce because i wrote it the day of the deposit.

I have had an account this establishment for just over a year and this is the third time they have deducted monies out of my account. At first, is was a mistake and they reimbursed me. January 2009 I deposited my money and they took over 200 from me. I came back the next week to get my money out and the teller said she could not give me my money due to some procedure.
I called the number from a letter sent to me by the bank to reconcile the matter and they assured me I had over the amount of money in my account. They next thing is I'm receiving another letter saying I've over drawn my account. Now that is the third time in one month this bank has over charged me. I cannot recommend this bank I thought would be a convenience to our neighborhood. They are taking from those indivdual who need monies, credit and services most.
Made my credit record bad, depleted my monies and whatevery services I thought they would offer it is not worth it.
