US Bank

Lisa of Naperville, IL February 25, 2009

I have had the same VISA card account my entire adult life - 25 years. Several years ago it was taken over by US Bank. It is a variable rate card. Recently I received a letter from US Bank stating that my interest rate was being increased. I have never defaulted, paid 2-3 days late probably 5 times in 25 years because I forgot to mail the bill out, and have an excellent credit score of over 800. The letter states that the increase has nothing to do with my personal credit situation.

Since the Federal Reserve prime rate has gone down, I feel there is no reason for the increase other than greed. I called US Bank and there is NEVER a supervisor available to speak with. They only say they will call me back and then don't. Please understand that my approach has been painfully pleasant and that I'm not acting like an irate customer.

My other gripe is that my VISA bill is mailed to me so late every month that it is impossible to mail it in within the due date. They recommend 10 days before the due date but I usually receive it a week before it's due. I have resorted to paying it personally at a branch in order to assure that it's on time.

I'm fortunate that I have suffered no economic consequences YET. however, my job is in jeopardy, and what if I need to carry a balance on my card for a while?

Over draft fees!!! I check my account on a regualar basis. This morning I logged on and it said my account was negative 8 dollars. I went ahead and did a checking acount advance to cover this, and anyone who has done this before knows that you can only do it if you take out enough money to cover the negative balance and the overdraft fees.

Appon completion of this process my account was back in the positive 13 dollars. problem solved, I think not! I checked it later this afternoon my account was negative 105 dollars. Usbank charged me three more overdraft fees for the exact three transactions i did the checking account advances for. My question is how can charges pending cost you money when the problem was taken care of before the transactions went through.

I have received repeated phone calls from US Bank demanding that I call them back, only they insist that my name is Brian and that I am not who I say I am. I have had their assurance several times that they would remove me from their phone bank. Of course I continue to get calls. I have even spoken to their supervisors but they are also of no help. I have also filed a complaint with the better business bureau.

It has cost me almost an hour on my celular phone and a couple of hours filing complaints.

I received notice in the mail that uS bank was chaning my APR from 5.9% to 15.99%. I received a copy of my credit report and their is nothing negative on it, with a prime score. I contacted USBank and they told me this was considered an across the board raise.

this is an incredible financial hardship on my family.

US Bank was offered a short sell contract in August 2008. I have recieved no response at all. It is now Febuary 2009, and my property will be auctioned at public sale.

Nancy of La Verkin, UT February 20, 2009

My husband and I are retired and in our 70's. In December 2008, we refinanced our home. Our new mortgage company is now U.S. Bank Home Mortgage and our first mortgage payment was due on February 1, 2009. I have over the years made all our mortgage payments on the internet, saving time and postage, so I attempted to do so with our new mortgage holder. I have never been late making a mortgage payment, so I proceeded to try to make my first mortgage payment to them about one week before the due date of February 1. I have always used our Money Market Account (with another bank) for the mortgage payments, so I tried to set up the information for that account, only to find after completing the enrollment form, that they can't take money from a Money Market Account...as stated on their website.

So, I called them to find out how I could enable this transaction on the internet. After much discussion, I finally opted to just send them a check. This was on January 29. So, I wrote out a check and put it in the mail after transferring the proper amount to our checking account from the Money Market Account. But, alas! On February 9, the mortgage payment had been taken from our Money Market Account, after all.

I also noticed on the U.S. Bank website that our account showed a payment had been made on Jan. 29...unknown to me. I called them, and after a lengthy wait...5-10 min., I was able to finally speak to a human being, and was told I had made a payment on Jan. 29, by way of the telephone. I was emphatic that no such payment had been made by phone by me or anyone else. And, I pointed out to them that they had taken a payment from my Money Market Account when their website stated they couldn't.

In the meantime, I put a stop payment on the check I had mailed to them, called them telling them of this, and was told they would mail the check back to me when it arrived. Somehow, or other, three payments to them was noticed on their Account Activity page of their site. And, it said our next payment would be due on April 1, 2009. If that were truly the case, and it wasn't, then my next payment shouldn't be due till May 1, 2009. What planet are these people on? A few days later there were 3 checks returned noted on the Activity page...remember I wrote only one check. I think it is finally straightened out, as my next payment is due March 1, 2009....but not with them.

We are now in the process of refinancing, again, to get away from U.S. Bank as fast as possible, before we find we've lost any money because of them. I've been afraid of them ruining our good credit rating, too. The lending company we are working with is having a terrible time trying to contact them. When they finally got through to someone to inquire about our account, they were told the account didn't exist and the social security numbers didn't match up with the account.

This is scary!! If I could have left this bank a week ago, I would have done it then. Fortunately, the lending company is sympathetic with us, as they have heard some stories about U.S. Bank in the past and now they are experiencing some of it for themselves.

Im tired of being taken advantage of by this bank. They fail to see when they are wrong but they are quick to take whats rightfully yours. Im so upset, I have spent two days trying to argue with the customer service over this and they are not helpful. I called yesterday which was presidents day so I had to wait till today to call the branch manager o he could tell me he was late to a meeting, not to mention after he made me wait on hold for 10 minutes.

I received direct deposit into my checking i transfered the money to my savings. So i had 150 in my checking and more than enough in my savings i went to the mall to purchase somethings and i used my atm card not the checking. Two totally different cards with 2 different pins. So i use this savings account card but i log on monday to my checking account and see im overdrawn 451.00? I never used my checking? So I call up the bank and they say im not suppose use my atm? i thought anywhere they took atm or the logos in the back i was okay to use? So now i have to see how im wrong to use my money in savings? no way, i asked so if im not suppose to use my savings why didnt it decline? How is it that [they] didnt transfer the money from my saving to checking instead of overdrawing me? There not linked she said, oh but they are linked so u can overdraw my checking because i used my savings? Makes no sense.

How is it i have to pay 300 in overdraft fees when i had more than enough in the savings. These people in the customer service think we owe them something there rude, i told her im not asking you to give me anything for free, im asking you to tell me why u can link my account to overdraw me for using my savings but you couldnt transfer the money. Besides there was no need for the transfer, i had money in the savings and if anything the card should have declined. So i got upset and i told them i want email address for corporate. i want to file an official complaint. so this girl says i cant email i have to mail it in. Oh im guessing this letter will get lost in the mail. There has to be something more that we all can do?

Why do i have to give them any of my money if i had enough in my account. I called a different branch and this gentle man T. Parkenson of the Culver City branch offered to reverse 5 fees, 5? I had 8? i shouldnt have to give this bank 112.50. So im defenitly seeking any legal advice because im tired of them taking advantage of us their customers. I read the stories and a lot of these we the customers are right.

I got charged 300 in fees when i had the funds in the account atm card i was using. Now they will credit me money but some so i will be out 112.00

My complaint is concerning USBank online banking services. For more than a year there has been a problem with their online banking service. I call at least twice a month due to computer glitches. One day I will have a specific balance and then the next day it is a totally different view of charges and credits that did not match the day before.

Today the Co-Manager at my local USBank told me that he receives so many complaints from customers about USBank online computer glitches. If you Google USBank Complaints there are volumes of complaints all over the Internet. How can this bank get away with this criminal act. I am writing my California Attorney General and hope a lawsuit will be filed. I have included my local branch information above.

This has caused an extreme financial burden for me due to overdraft charges and negative balance fees.

Deborah of Lotus, CA February 12, 2009

I deposited a 684.00 check from the State of CA. I am on unemployment as I lost my job the first of the year. I was not overdrawn at this time. I was not told that US Bank was going to hold my State check for 5 business days. I wasn't even told that when you deposit that the deposit is not available until the next day. I am a new customer. I set up my bill pay and tried to access my money via my debit card and was continually declined.

I called C/S and was not told that there was a hold on my check just that the funds would be available until the next day after the deposit. The funds were not available, so I went into the bank branch (Safeway Store) to see what was wrong. I still was not told about the hold but the teller did say I was occuring charges and she would check on it and have the Manager call me the next day. The Manager never called.

I called the following Monday and was told that there was no one in charge and the Manager was on vacation for 2 weeks. I went to another Branch and spoke to that Manager and she tried to assist me by getting them to call me back. US Bank refunded only 100.00 of the overdraft fees and the negative balance fees out of 503.00. If I had been told about the hold I would have never overdrafted and therefore would not have a negative balance. I find that this blantant violation of the FDIC law Title VI. Is there any recourse for this situation?

Since I am unemployed and desperately looking for work without much luck I can't afford to have 503.00 taken from my account. I now can't pay my bills or buy groceries or gasoline to go out to look for work. My landlord is pushing to get paid and I don't have it to pay her. I am on a tight rope and it's about to break due to this incident.
