I have been trying to find out how do they charge for the overdraft nobody can explain to me. And there shouldn't be any overdraft charges because I had money on the account but no, they trying to tell me that I didn't have money, online banking service is working terribly! When I call them they telling e dates that I don't even see online, they are charging me overdraft for the transactions that I definitely had money for! Then they trying to tell me that they don't update the account over the weekend then why are they charging me for it?

Its been a couple of time when this happened I was patient and still couldn't prove anything, even supervisors don't want to help. So I need your help please to get to the bottom of this story. Either they need to change their system or Online Banking system and give me my money back, or I'm gonna press the charges against the Bank, because they are steeling the money from people legal way!

I had an issue with Wachovia Bank this week. I deposited enough money in my account to cover everything I was paying. My insurance company went in and took a payment which they should not have. That caused me to overdraft and another check to be returned. I had to pay that bill so I called the bank to verify that the check was returned. It was, so I took the cash out of my account and paid the bill. Wachovia went ahead and cleared the check after they already returned it and charged a fee. Now, that caused my account to have numerous insufficient fees and overdraft fees and returned item fees.

The other Bank kept resubmitting the checks so you know each time that sa fee. I have over 300 in fees. This is outrageous. There has to be a law against this. I don’t know what to do and how to do it so that’s why I am writing this letter. Please take some time to look into the banking system and pass a law against this. I know you have a lot of other important issues to handle. However, please take some time to see if there is anything you can do to enforce this law.

COURTNEY of ORLANDO, FL September 21, 2009

Hello, I am calling to find out if I can make new deposits or reactivate account # since I had left Orlando in 2008,when I got the operator I was told that the account is in collections and I don,t know why the account was only used for deposits and withdrawls I also wrote two or three checks to my school Joe and I received a statement, so I don't know why this account would be in collections and no one contacted me on the matter, the bank has all of my phones numbers in Orlando and Nassau, Bahamas along with my mailing address. So please advise me on the situation asap.

Sadly, I was a victim of signing up for a private student loan without ever being told by the institution that I was at the mercy of the interest rates and payment plans set forth by the private loan issuer, Wachovia. With that being said, I have been out of work for two years and managed to continue to make full payments to not only the private loan, but to a government loan as well. Keep in mind I have never missed a payment and I have always paid on time. Because I was keeping up with the payments while being out of work, my funds were slowly depleting.

In June, 2009 I was granted forbearance of the loan, but only through August. It is now September, 2009 and I requested an extension. Although actively seeking work and really hope and pray for a full-time job by October the latest, I can't guarantee I will be employed by then. Wachovia refused to work with me.

After speaking to Alyssa first then her Supervisor Sheila, then her Supervisor Jeff, I received the same runaround. They all told me that under Wahcovia Guidelines I have to pay 3 months worth of payments in order to request another forbearance. Didn't they just hear anything I told them? I am out of work; I have no source of income. I have been paying consistently on time for several years at their outrageous interest rates that fluctuate month to month. Yet, they refuse to work with me on a solution except to lower payments to 98 per month. Again, I have no source of income so how can I do that?

Whatever happened to customer service and working with a customer to help them in economic hardship? They kept saying, "I understand." They do not understand; they have no clue what it is like to all of a sudden lose your financial independence and then they don't even want to bend the rules to work with you. Their practices are unjust and unfair; why can't they just grant me another two months? Honestly, what would that hurt? Someone explain to me in detail how that would hurt them? Believe me, when I get a job, I plan to send payments immediately; I don't want to be stuck with this private loan for the rest of my life, however, I would like some help in the meantime.

September 14th I had 251 in my checking account. I had made 10 purchases that amounted in the amount of 261. 5 out of 10 transactions could of been covered on the 14th. Instead then took out 140 in overdraft fees, on the 14th. Then they let all 10 transactions go thru the account, on the 15th of September. Then hit me with another 10 overdraft fees, which I got with with 490 in overdraft fees. When yea my boyfriend and I made the mistake and made 5 more purchases after the first 5. Although we had more then enough to cover the first 5 transactions they didn't see it that way. I spoke and delt with 5 people today and they stated that the way Wachovia works is, they total up all of the transactions if that amount exceeds the avaiable balance they will then issue you an overdraft fee for some of the items. Then the items process, and then if you don't have enough to cover thoses items after they posted they will hit you again for the overdraft fess.

So not only did I have more then enought to cover 5 outta the 10 transactions I double paid on over draft fees, because they hit me first with overdraft fees and then they hit me with overdraft fees for all of the items again. So when my boyfriends direct deposit came through we were in the negative. All of the Wachovia personel stated that all banks work that way they add up all of the processing transactions then subtract that from the avaiable balance then hit you with overdraft fees if you don't have enough to cover thoses transactions then they subtract the transactions and thoses can't be covered then you get more overdraft fees. Which is a bunch of bull crap. There was more then enought to cover 5 out of then 10 transactions. So instead of 14 overdraft fees I should of only gotten 5 but that is not how Wachovia operates. Wachovia just wants to scam everyone out of there money so they can save their asses from debt due to Wells Fargo being apart of their company. I would not recommened Wachovia to anyone ever. I have delt with other banks in the past and never had any problems with them. So now I closed out my account and have to get a new account some where else. With little too no money due to Wachovia.

Johanan of Houston, TX September 16, 2009

My account has been hit with thousands of dollars in fees over the last yer that I have been with Wachovia. Some have been my fault and some have not been. The last time was the worst. In a 2 week period, I have been hit with 420 dollars total on one account. The reason? Firts 2 transactions posted to my account. One for 3 dollars in change, and one for 10 dollars in change. The one for 3 dollars was made on a Monday and the 10 dollar was made on a Tuesday. I had 11 dollars in my account. The charge from Tuesday was posted first and so I was hit with 2 35 dollar charges instead of 1.

Then get this, I was hit with 70 more dollars the next day. I was told because the 13 dollars was on hold and another charge came through which caused them to have to take the 13 off hold and use towards that purchase. (Even though there was enough in the account to cover it.) Then my direct deposit came through. I scheduled a 369.16 car payment with Captial One on the 10th. I also made other charges on the account including my cell phone and other ods and ends. This was all done on the 10th.

Well I had a second checking account that was overdrawn in the amount of 97 dollars that I was slowly trying to offset. On the 11th, Wachovia performed a "Right to Offset" transfer on my account. I didnt know this was coming and had already made multiple charges on my account. Guess what happened? Wachovia posted the transfer to my account 1st and then all the other charges after that even though they were made a day before. So I was charged 280 dollars of NSF fees on top of all that. 280 dollars of fees that were charged because of the transfer made by Wachovia(well within thier right) but with no warning whatsoever. So my account was 398 dollars in the whole. And out of the graciousness of thier hearts wachovia gave me a grand total of 67 dollars back.

Of course my direct deposit will hit tommorow and we are back at the same point again. Not enough money to take care of my bills and my family. 420 dollars in fees for a couple mistakes that total less than 50 bucks. I have countless issues like this with this bank. This is just the worst one. This is the worst bank I have ever encounterd in my 30 years on this earth. Very disgusted. My only recourse is to file a complaint with the complaint dept which I have to mail in and wait to hear back from.

Richard of Palm Coast, FL September 16, 2009

On September 15th, Wachovia charged us with 490 in NSF fees. I checked the online banking system on Sept. 14th and we had plenty of money in the account. They claim checks were cashed before midnight but my direct-deposit payroll check didn't go through until 12:00am on the 15th. There system is set up to steal from their customers.

On sept. 15th AFTER my payroll check had gone through they deducted my account for another 70 when there was clearly enough money in the account. They are robbing their customers! Needless to say, because of the 560 they stole from our account, we over drafted on checks that were out there because we weren't planning on our bank to steal a total of 560. NEVER deal with Wachovia...they will rip you off!

C. of Decatur, GA September 15, 2009

On August 18, 2009, I went to my local Decatur,Georgia Wachovia Branch at Chapel Square. I closed my account without issue because it was supposedly a simple procedure. However, they allowed an unknown to me point of sale draft to go through for 7.30 AFTER my account was closed. This 7.30 draft was from a life insurance company--US LIFE--which is another complaint entirely because they used subterfuge to get my business becaue I have not located any paper work wherein I signed up for life inusrance.

Back to Wachovia: They any now calling me with threatening calls daily and sending letters saying I owe them 52.30! After visiting the bank manager, I thought they would see that I was a victim of US LIFE and return my account to a closed status. But no, they berrated me. I also questioned them as to why they did not notify me of any pending transactions when they initially closed my account. In addition, since the account closed any further deductions should have been denied.

Larry of Hayward, CA September 14, 2009

I have been trying to get a loan modification or any other kind of help for my mortgage since Nov.of 2008. I have sent in any and all forms that they have asked for to only here that that help is not available. Each time I call to check in they say that they are still waiting for the guide lines for the new program because the guidelines have changed.

Richard of Chapel Hill, NC September 9, 2009

I received (2) 35.00 NSF fees on my account. On the printout from the Wachovia website, I had a 13.85 positive balance, the next line is the 70.00 NSF and the only pending transaction is for 8.15. There was no negative balance which should constitute any NSF fee. The fee is what made me have NSF. According to what I'm looking at on their website I should have a 5.70 positive balance. They took the 70.00 before they applied a deposit but by their own website I wasn't negative to begin with.

The manager J. Hippo refunded 35.00 to my account and said that the website is not 100% up to the minute and that another 8.00 transaction is what made us go NSF but it is not reflected in their website. She said in 24-hours it will update and show what we were negative. The transactions and the deposit all happened the same night but they put the transaction on 9/8/2009 and the deposit on 9/9/2009 assuring that I was NSF even though right now it says I'm not. They reordered the transaction and deposit in a particular order to make it possible for them to charge me that fee.

My wife and I are both unemployed & I receive unemployment compensation, she does not. The 70.00 is equal to (7) night's dinners. We budget for 10.00 per meal for us and our two teenage daughters.
