Jd of Parkersburg, WV (03/19/08) My wife and I purchased a Craftmatic bed two years ago after listening to a high pressure salesman. We kept telling him that the bed cost way more than we could afford, so after talking with his boss they finally dropped the price down to 4000 which was still way too much but we agreed only after the salesman said that if we didn't like the mattress they would make it right until we did . Boy was that a lie.
After fighting with them for about a month to even come and look at it they brought us another mattress and the only one that we could get for no further charge. Now were stuck with a 4000 bed that is so uncomfortable and wearing out already. I have acid reflux and my recliner works better at helping me than the bed . Ross of Abilene,, TX March 11, 2008
Ross of Abilene, TX (03/11/08) The reason I am writing again is that they sent us a bill saying it is due 3/13/08, and a past due will come on 3/14/08. I am 79 years old and my wife is 76. We need counsel quickly! My wife and I had a high pressure salesman, Aaron Ashford, call on us for a Craftmatic Bed. He told us how comfortable they are, and with the adjustable feature we could maneuver it into a fetus position. When you try to do that it lifts your legs and just about breaks your legs and back. He had a bed for 1700 but wouldn't even talk about that one. He said we needed the 7,000 bed. He finely got the 7,000 bed down to 4044.89. He was here over 4 hours pressuring us into buying the bed. We haven't paid on it except a 100 deposit. What should we do? Pay it or not?
I have had to sleep in a recliner. I just ache all over every time I try to sleep in the bed. They took our bed away and disposed of it. So we are in a qwandry as to what to do. Ross of Abilene,, TX March 10, 2008

He told us how comfortable they are and with the adjustable feature we could maneuver it into a fetal position. When you try to do that it just about breaks your legs and back. When I try to sleep on the bed I wake up in about 2 hours aching all over. I have to move to a recliner to sleep.

Rev. of Ossining NY (03/08/08) Most unprofessional service. Craftmatic bed at one time could sell itself. This is not so anymore. My bed is extremely uncomfortable, and I have tried to settle this matter with Mr. Roberts on several occasions. He did attempt to make it better by sending pads and cusions, but I am still very uncomfortable. Mr. Roberts is no longer nice. I cannot sleep in this awful bed. I paid 5000 to Craftmatic beds, for a painful rest and sleepless nights. Please help. Perry of Port Washington, NY March 7, 2008
Perry of Port Washington NY (03/07/08) I learned about this company through the NY Times job market. The ad was striking in content and quite long. It boasted of large commissions, a decent first year salary and a 2100 sign up bonus. The following week I attended a three and one-half day training class. On the first day you are asked to either bring a 200 money order or a credit card to pay for a sales kit, which might cost Craftmatic 25. To make matters worse, they deduct 25 each week for a total price of 400. The sales materials included some very high pressure selling techniques and many artificial responses to close a customer. In fact, the customer never does actually try the bed. We are told by the company to construct a reasonable facsimile in their bedroom! The whole presentation, including massaging your customer with a vibrator is supposed to take an hour and half. Once the customer is given the catalog prices, and if the sale is not closed, you are told to call the office and follow a 'pseudo' script, creating a new price point. An agent instructs you to juxtapose a discontinued model to the current model (Craftmatic versus Contour). If the sale isn't closed you are told to emote by telling more fictional stories.
It is clear this company preys on disabled people and seniors - wearing them down to the point of acquiescing. Certainly no working class family would pay 2000 to 7000 to purchase a bed, sight unseen. Their post close scenario instructs you to tell the customer not to mention to their children what they paid for the bed. The return policy on the bed is 5 days from the day the contract is signed. Hence, there is little time for the customer to return the bed, which is why there is such an inordinate amount of complaints. After the 3rd day of training class, I became dubious and looked them up at the BBB, but I couldn't determine if the number of complaints were justified based on the number of total sales, so I did indeed finish the training. On my first day the home office sent me into an impoverished area. The lady, who could not afford such a costly bed, told me she had simply called to enter a sweepstakes to win a bed. The lead was not properly vetted. The second day, the same situation: a woman who thought I was at her home to give her information about the bed she had thought she'd won. Then I found out about this web site. I faxed over a letter of resignation the following day and returned my kit via certified mail -- signature required. Hopefully, they will credit my account; if not I will execute charge back procedures.
