Amy of The Dalles, OR March 7, 2008

Amy of The Dalles OR (03/07/08)
My 95-year-old grandfather who lives in an assisted living facility in The Dalles was sold a 4589 Craftmatic bed for his apartment in the facility. This is a man who does not part easily with money. He and his wife probably never had a new piece of furniture in their whole married life. We were disgusted that they had been able to coerce him to buy something that he didn't need or want. Luckily, he is in a financial position that this did not cause serious implications to his care - but it certainly could have. This is a horrible business practice of Craftmatics to prey on the elderly!

He cannot operate the bed. He is unable to get into it, so he slept the other night half on and half off. He could hardly walk the next day. He did not have full mental capacity at the time of the sale. They removed his old bed, and there was no notification. No one in the family knows where or when these people contacted him.

one remote for the bed is not working and we called and were promised a new one for 100 and we waited anytime we call back no one can guarantee when the remote will be available and finally we were told that the bed was too old 6 years and that the remotes were not made anymore and that we had to pay 300 for a new one

My husband has a severe case of pain and back problems and he used ro raise the bed and sleep in a partly raised position and he has not been able to do that and the pain has become worse. we desperately need help and we do not know if we can ever afford another set of money to get this bed repaired. 350 dollars is very expensive, and they also will not recommend any compoany that might be able to fix this remote.

I answered an ad for employment with Craftmatic. I drove about two to three hours for the training and spent about 300 for food and hotel due to the fact that Escondido was far away. I was told that my expense would be reimbursed once I receive my first sale. The training was for three days. I was concerned about the training because they were training us to tell these possible customers horrific stories about people who suffered so badly from falling off their beds and were badly hurt due to the inconvenience of not having an adjustable bed. But the worst was when we were told to tell a story of a loved one that had died or injured due to the fact that their bed wasn't good enough to get out of--and if only we knew about the Craftmatic beds we would do every thing to get one for our loved one. We were even told to cry while we were talking about our loved one's so- called story. I asked if all that was necessary to sell this so-called wonderful bed.

If you remember, their commercial  states something to the fact: Wouldn't you rather purchase a Craftmatic adjustable bed for the same price of a regular bed? Well, we were told that they do have a bed that's the price of a regular bed, and the trainer showed us the bed and said this bed is just in case they were investigated, they do have this bed to show. The only reason I went through with this was because we were told that the consumers were the ones that called in for a sales rep to come and talk to them about the Craftmatic beds, and I feel if someone is inquiring about a product it shouldn't be a hard sell and no convincing.

Well, I went on my first appointment. When I got there I was scared to get out of my car; some gang-type members were very suspicious of me, and my intuition said do not get out of the car and leave this environment. So that's what I did. I called the office and told them the area was not safe for me so I went on my second appointment. I couldn't even find the place after about an hour and a half of driving--when we were told we would be working in our area. None of these places were in my area. I called Craftmatic and told them this job is not for me, and I was going to return my kit; I had given them a deposit as well. I returned the kit but never received my money. Instead I got letters from their attorney asking me to pay a balance for my kit. I called him and told him I sent in my kit, and I was waiting for my money back. I faxed him several times with the information from the post office, and he kept telling me, saying he never got it all. I've got now a collection on my credit report for a few hundred dollars owed to Craftmatic. Craftmatic needs to be stopped once and for all.

I lost my money for kit, hotel, food and time for this training. I had to look for another job. Every time I think of this it makes me upset all over again because I feel like a fool to even quit my job to start this so-called dream job. And again, it is on my credit report that I owe Craftmatic money. You can call me anytime for more information about this.

I wrote for information on the Craftmatic bed. They called and promised us each a 500 shopping spree if we'd just listen to the saleslady. The saleslady showed us a video about the bed and give us a quick back massage.  We understood that we had a year to decide whether to keep the bed or not. Then she showed the price and we almost fainted.

We said "no way".  She was slick and dropped the price a couple times then said, "how much would you pay for it?"  I said not even half, so she calls her boss and we agreed to 4000.  She said I was not to tell anyone how much I paid for this bed.

Also if we would do a sleep study for one month we would get two 500 gift certificates for bedding and other stuff at WAshopping.com; all we had to do was pay for shipping.  But this web site has nothing worth paying for the shipping.

I can`t sleep on this bed very good at all and my wife moved into the spare bedroom with our old bed. I keep thinking of the 4000 I paid for it.

Gloria of Clarkston, WA March 1, 2008

Gloria of Clarkston WA (03/01/08)
I was sold a bed for my daughter, Sarah, who at the age of 16, was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. She had been suffering long before that, but the 'illness' was given a name at that time. We have been to several doctors, tried many things to alleviate the pain and discomfort Sarah was experiencing. So, when Steve Pelton came to my house and told me of all the wonderful things this bed would do, and how it would improve her quality of life, I went for it, but only after Steve looked me in the eye and promised me, that AT ANYTIME, I would be able to return the bed and get a full refund if not 100% completely satisfied. At the time of the sale, he promised also that he would 'try' to be there when the bed was delivered to make sure things went smooth. He never showed or called. He also told me that the old bed would be taken away as a courtesy. When I approached the delivery people about this, they denied knowing anything about it, so we had to get rid of the old bed.

I tried calling the salesman several times as it appeared Sarah was not going to benefit from this 4000 bed. I was told by him that I would have to notify the company directly. I did call the company, and the company representative that answered the phone advised me that they could not take the bed back. I tried to contact Steve after that but was unable to get through to him, (caller ID, maybe?). I emailed the company a couple of time after that to tell them of my disappointment in their company and how they do not stand behind their sales representatives' words. I have yet to get a response from them. Now I have to contact them as the particle board on the underside of the bed is broken. It makes me wonder if they will honor their own contract. I am very disappointed in this company and the poor customer service they provide. I was told they can't return the bed and sell a 'used' bed, but as I advised them, that is not my problem as that is not what I was told!

Now, I am forced to be paying off a bed that is not benefiting my daughter!
