Randy of Abingdon, VA August 12, 2008

Randy of Abingdon VA (08/12/08)
I had a failed back surgery 10 years ago. I've been through 23 surgeries since then. I suffer from severe sleep apnea, brain tumor, severe degentegative spinal disease. I suffer every single day from pain. About 1 year ago I had to stop sleeping in my regular bed because my back and legs were hurting so bad.

My partner and I decided this was not acceptable so we contacted the Contour Bed Company by the 800 number on the TV add. By the way, the reason I keep saying Contour instead of Craftmatic is because the salesman told us that Contour bought out Craftmatic.

We were given a high pressure sales pitch while the salesman sat there and sexually played with himself. According to the ad these beds don't cost any more than a regular bed so we thought we'd go ahead and get one. The price wasn't told to us until AFTER the pressure pitch. We ended up with a cost of 5,000.00. Then our contract was purchased by another company for collection so Contour has their money now.

When the bed arrived and was set up we discovered it was 2 twins put together, but were not secured together in any way. We didn't know about the wheels and they didn't even lock them down to keep the bed from rolling. We got the one with the massager because we thought it would help with my back problems.

We were also NOT told that when you raise the bed up and down or when you use the massager that the mattress's would move. I woke up one morning and started to get out of the bed and just as I was sitting on the edge of the bed the matress flipped up and threw me off the bed and pinned me between the dresser and the mattreess. I ended up hitting the dresser so hard and I cut open my knees, sprained my ankles and worst of all fractured my left lower shoulder blade and tore a lot of muscles. I hit so hard that I had a concussion and had to have an ambulance take me to the emergency room for treatment.

We have had NO LUCK in contacting the company because the salesman took all our copies of the paperwork whey him. Even if the bed worked we cannot sleep together because of the large gap between them. We can no long sleep holding eacher.

I've contacted an attorney but he said the problem was that there would have to be others willing to come forward with expert and/or others who've had similar problems.

Now we too are being hounded by the company that bought the contrat is hounding us day and night. I told them to come and pick up the (explicitive) bed. Of course they refussed and explained they have a no return policy even though the salesman told us we had a trial period and could return the bed if we didn't like it for any reason.

I tried to contact an attorney for Product Liability and fraud as I'm on a fixed income and I am not about to spend 5,000.00 for a bed that is so dangerous it could have broken my neck or back and either kill me or make me more disabled than I already am.

My mother signed up win a craft matic bed, a sales person showed up at her house. She made the bed sound very good and my mother who has not slept more than 2 to 3 hours a night for years and was looking for a way to get sleep was talked into buying a bed. She kept asking what the coast of the bed was and was repeatilly told we will get to that later. The bed was delivered and her old bed moved out. Than it was found that she needed a special elec. cord to fit from the bed to the outlet, which the instalers did not have.

We had to go out and buy one, which would have been ok if the brd had been ok. My mon did sleep on it as a flat bed if you can call it sleeping. She was hurting so bad that she got up anf sleep on the couch for the next few days. The installers came back and one of them yelled at my mother because he had got in trouble with the company when the bed could not be set up. He than took the cord we had bought and said it would not work and he wanted to go though my mothers personal items to find a cord and was not going to take no for an answer.

My mother ordered him out of her house 3 times before he finally left, when my mother called the company and ask when they were going to set the bed up the person she talked to said that the same person would come out. My mother said she did not want him in her house and the reply was What do you want me to do fly out and set it up myself? My mother can not sleep in the bed and I feel that the contract has never been in affect because craft matic never hooked it up to the elec. They also sold the contract to another company who is calling my mother up to 4 times a day to get payment. My mother is on a very fixed income and can not afford the payments that they want.

My mother blood pressure is up and she is sleeping less than she was. She is not answering her phone due to the calls she is recieving. She can pay for the bed or her medication but not both. When I talk to her she is in tears it is tearing her apart. She doesent understand how people can do this to another person. If the installer had not left when he did my mother would have been in the hospital, she told me that she was geting light headed and very warm.

My cousin has cerebal palsy and we bought him a new craftmatic bed and we moved it from his house to ours very carefully and when we plugged it in it wouldn't raise or lower the head or foot of the bed we replaced the remote batteries and plugged it in various other plugs and it still wouldn't work. I have tried 10 times calling the coustomer service dept and emailing everyday NO ONE will return my calls or emails and he needs this bed,we paid for extended warranty and what good did that do!

My handicapped cousin cannot get in and our of his bed he is 6 foot and weighs about 200lbs I am 5'3 and weigh about 120

Linda of Chagrin Falls, OH June 12, 2008

we bought a craftomatic bed as my husband has multiple sclerosis, is in a wheel chair and cannot even stand. our salesman came out discussed the whole bed with us...measured our existing bed and said the craftomatic would be the same height. he had me sign some papers and told us that by law mattresses could not be returned. they do have a return policy but he never showed it to us and never discussed it. the bed came and it was 8 higher than our existing bed which made it impossible for my husband to get into. i had to take off the mattress and we are now sleeping on the box spring.

of course this is not acceptable and we tried to reach them for two days to no avail. finally today i reached them and they told me that i had to have the signed return policy back to them dated by june 9th. not knowing anything about it i finally reached them today and they said they would not pick up the bed. the cost of the bed was 6300.00 which is really a stretch for us but bruce had been sleeping at a desk for 8 months and it is a necessity. i called visa and told them to put a hold on the payment as i am not paying for 1/2 a bed. the person with whom i spoke today was rude and firm about them not taking the bed back.

i am going to mail this form to them but she said they will check the postal date and not do anything about it. we need your help as the salesman totally misrepresented himself and never even discussed this issue. he was at our home for 4 hours and just dupped us. we need your help in solving this problem as i will never pay them that 6300.00.

my husband is not working so this money would have to be borrowed and he is now again sleeping at the desk as a box spring is not very comfortable

Betty of Battle Creek, MI May 13, 2008

Betty of Battle Creek MI (05/13/08)
I ordered the bed. When I received the bed it was very uncomfortable. I decided that I did not want it and followed the directions include in the three day return policy. I was under the impression that my refund would be sent within 10 days. Two months and many phone calls later I received a refund check. After depositing the check into my account I received notice that there was insufficant funds on the Craftmatic check.

I am not satisfied with the customer service (or should I say lack of customer service). My phone calls are not returned and numbers that I have been given to take matters higher are not of any use. I have received economic distress in the fact that my checking account balance is overdrawn.
