Ethan Allen

Chris of Evanston, IL April 24, 2009

I ordered about 9000 worth of Ethan Allen furniture from the store in Wilmette, IL. This was three years ago in 2006. I was very happy with the process from start to finish, except not many pieces that I ordered are showing some kind of damage. I live alone and use my furniture very lightly.

Veneers are coming off because adhesives are drying out. Mysterious chips are appearing in detail work. The bottoms of drawers are cracking, even those with nothing in them. As I said, I'm very easy on my furniture, so I'm incredibly disappointed with how it's held up over just three years, given how much I paid for it. I won't do business with Ethan Allen again, ever.

I ordered Ethan Allen furniture from Ethan Allen on December 6, 2008 and have still not received six arm chairs to complete my dining room set. The order was promised for March 2009 but now it is the end of April.

On another note, My husband and I tried calling Ethan Allen last December 2008 to make a change to our purchase order one week after placing the initial order. Our request was denied and Ethan Allen showed no flexibility per their policy that changes cannot be made three days after an order is placed.

It is upsetting how Ethan Allen was not able to show us any flexibility with changing our order even though we only called a few days after the deadline to make changes. While we were only a few days late in our request to make changes to our order, Ethan Allen is currently 20 days late with our furniture order. This wrongly implies that deadlines only apply for the customer and not for Ethan Allen.

I purchased overe 25,000 worth of merchandise from Ethan Allen, including a dining room table and four chairs. At the same time, I ordered a rug to place under the dining room table. However, the table and chairs arrived before the rug and came to realize that I did not need the rug, so I immediately called and cancelled it. I was told that I could not cancel as this was a custom made rug and as far as I know, I wasn't told this was custom, but they said that due to the color that I chose, it became custom. This did not make any sense to me, so finally accepted the rug.

When the rug arrived, I found that the quality of the rug was not very good and the padding was larger than the rug. So, I immediately called Ethan Allen and they told me to ask the truck driver to cut the rug to size. The truck driver was surprised as he didn't have the tools to do this and I felt that it was up to Ethan Allen to come over and cut the padding to size. I called many times to have someone come over to look and the rug, etc. but to this day, haven't heard from them. Customer service at Ethan Allen leaves a lot to be desired. I was a relatively low maintenance customer.

There wasn't dozen of phone calls and complaints, merely a request regarding this rug and Ethan Allen has been non-responsive. It's a pity that I didn't go on line to check out Ethan Allen before I made my purchases. Ethan Allen is a company that do not care about you once they have your money - it's pretty sad!

On December 15, 2008 I ordered table and chairs from Ethan Allen. The wrong table was delivered to my home on January 31, 2009. Ethan Allen explained they delivered my table to another home accidentally. They told me they would arrange the exchange of tables. I expressed my displeasure, as this will no longer be a new table.

After 3 weeks (Feb 21, 2009) the tables were swapped, but the table delivered was damaged. I escalated this to the district manager who was taken about about how this was handled. She sent out a service person to determine it could not be repaired on March 7. Due to the service mans report, she put in an order for a replacement table. This table arrived on April 4, 2009 DAMAGED. I placed a call to Ethan Allen immediately. Ethan Allen has not made any reciprocity for this series of events and has made no indication they will do so.

I've spent over 50,000.00 at Ethan Allen in the last 20 years. I'm pretty low maintenance and knew the products were overpriced but figured , you know buy quality one time... The first 18 years of product were great, the quality was fantastic, and the furniture held up well until about a year ago when I purchased a nice leather couch and matching loveseat. The leather has turned out to be fake, and it is disintegrating.

When we called to complain, customer service said that I had bought a starter set and that next time we should buy the regular one. Got nowhere, and when I turned it over I just about had a heart attack when I read Made in China. I'm pretty zenophobic and was very, very disappointed that they never let you know that the leather is now out-sourced. I could have bought from Ashley, saved a ton of , and probably had the real deal. I'm through being duped.

Nothing has happened. They would not return our calls and we just gave up.
