Hampton Bay Patio Furniture

Hampton Bay Furniture, sold by Home Depot stores, is manufactured by JRA Furniture, headquartered in Cerritos, Calif., which proudly boasts that its furniture is made in "factories throughout Asia." Yes, and we can think of many consumers who would have been happier if JRA's glass=top tables had stayed in Asia.

Besides Hampton Bay, JRA's glass-top tables are sold under a number of brand names, the most notorious being Martha Stewart. Her line of patio furniture, sold by Kmart, has produced an explosion of complaints from consumers about its nasty habit of exploding all over their patios and decks.

See Sounds of Summer: Martha Stewart Tables Shattering for all the gory details.

Less than a year ago we bought a Hampton Bay Calabria dining set and a Hampton Bay rectangular Calabria umbrella (Model:DA9MKT-ROS) at Home Depot. The umbrella base is very light. Wind blew it recently and ruined the umbrella's base pole and the table's umbrella reducing ring. Parts seem to be almost impossible to obtain.

Should I throw away the 500-worth Hampton Bay calabria dining set and the 149-worth Hampton Bay Calabria rectangular umbrella? Home Depot, please come to the rescue. We are talking a good 650 wasted! The incident resulted in an outdoor dining table with no umbrella.

We recently purchased a patio Furniture set by Hampton Bay / B J Furniture at Home Depot. When i tried to register the products for warrenty, I went to the site and tried to register the purchase, but there is no place to register the stuff! You get a total run around! I started to think something was fishy then I found all the complaints by consumers about how theire glass top tables explode for no apparent reason!

I have grandchildren that play on my patio and Now I'm scared! I contacted Home Depot about it but have ot yet heard back. Why aren't the glass top tables being recalled? UNtil We hear from Home Depot I cannot assess the damage if any; I can't get my warrenty registered.

Ken of Bethel Park, PA August 2, 2009

The first Hampton Bay umbrella that I bought only two years ago ripped near the top. I recently replaced the umbrella with a new one from Home Depot (also a Hampton Bay) that has solar powered LED's. The solar powered LED's don't work at all. If this is the quality to be expected from Hampton Bay then I quess I'm spending my money with the wrong company.

Kathryn of Palatine, IL July 31, 2009

My glass table top on my Dana Point manufactured under the Hampton Bay name for Home Depot. Around 3:00pm I heard a loud popping/breaking sound out on my patio. It looked like my patio was covered with 7,000 tiny pieces of ice. My glass tabletop had shattered into tiny little shards. The high velocity resulted in glass fragments being imbedded in the backs of my matching sling chairs. After the glass shattered the entire table fell over and broke off the top section of the matching umbrella. Glass was everywhere. Glass shards were actually embedded in the screen of my sliding glass door.It took hours to clean it up.

Last night I was sitting in the cir [chair] from Hampton Bay sold by Home Depot and the welds broke and I feel to the ground with my daughter in hand and hurt myself. This was not the first time that these chairs broke on us. My mother in law just bought the chairs less than a year ago. I have brusing on myheel and on my butt cheek. And my back hurts bad!

We purchased a Hampton Bay Patio Set, table plus 4 chairs and 2 rocking/swivel chairs in 2005. The paint is chipping off of the table and looks terrible. We haven't really used it very much. Also, both of the rocking/swivel chairs broke. The first time, my husband fell backwards into the planter and almost hit his head on a big boulder that is in there. The 2nd rocker someone was sitting in and we heard it crack. When we looked underneath, we found that both chairs broke in the exact same place.

We couldn't do anything but throw them away. Now we have a rectangular table with only 4 chairs and a table that looks like it's 20 years old. I'm [upset]! We don't want to just trash it and buy another set but it looks terrible with only 4 chairs.

Melissa of Notasulga, AL July 28, 2009

I purchased Hampton Bay Simone Set patio furniture from Home Depot in 2005. The catalog which I used to purchase the furniture had a 7 year warranty published in it. Now four years later the furniture is falling apart. The slings are have holes in it. The paint is chipping off the aluminum frame. The rope is breaking inside the umbrellas. I contacted Home Depot and the manufacture of the furniture. Neither one will take responsibility for this error. I paid 3200.00 for this furniture and I feel like someone should be responsible for misrepresenting the warranty of this furniture. I now have four chairs with tares in them and six chairs with paint flaking off in mulitiple areas. Two broken umbrellas and no one will do anything.

teri of gainesville, GA July 26, 2009

I bought an 8 piece, 9 if you include the umbrella stand, patio set and the glass exploded into a millon pieces when no one was using it and the umbrella was covering it.

ANDY of LITCHFIELD, OH July 25, 2009
