Inside the "Mattress Mafia"

Shawna of Bridgewater MA (10/29/08)
I purchased a Kingsdown mattress from Sleepy's on 7/2/08, I loved it in the showroom, it was perfect. However once i received it, it just didn't feel the same. It continued to worsen until it was so bad that we had to go buy a mattress topper to put on top of our awful pillow top mattress. I went through so many associates at Sleepy's who were so incredibly rude. They send someone out, with a string and tape measurer (not kidding) to test it. This guy canceled on me twice, he did confirm that the mattress was indeed defective, he actually came out and said it over and over that it must have been a manufacturing mistake, it's so deep, wow! So i'm thinking they are FINALLY going to treat a customer right and replace this.

Nope, they said i didn't have enough center support on my bed frame for it to be replaced! I'm so upset, we have no money and really thought this mattress would be worth it, no one is helpfull or nice, it takes the managers 24-48 hours to get back to you! Literally, that's what they say! If they won't help me, that's bad enough. But i hope by me writing this, it'll save someone from buying something they will really, really regret. If other are going through similar situations, i'm interested in small claims court, please let me know. I know this isn't the first time Sleepy's and Kingsdown have been charged. Wish me luck!

I've had to sleep on the couch for the past 2 months! I've seen a chiropractor 7 times since i got the mattress! I'm only 25 and 110lbs. I'm not causing the mattress to sink! We are beyond broke and it's so emotionally stressful to know that you wasted so much money on something so worthless.

10/23/08 I purchased a mattress from Sleepys 2 years ago, a Simons Dalton for a price of 1300.00 +tax 91.00 + delivery 60.00 total 1451.00 4 months later it sagged. I complained, and they sent a mattress inspector. The mattress was found to be defective and Sleepys issued me a credit for 924.0 for the price of the mattress only, not the box spring. ( I threw the other box spring out) I then chose another brand mattress.(Sterns & Foster + box spring deal) I used the 924 credit to pay for the new Sterns & Foster mattress and box spring and paid another delivery fee of 60.00. + 60.00 for tax. Not known to me at the time that this exchange was a down grade. total spent so far1571.

About 6 months later the second mattress was found to be defective as well . I was sent a letter saying that they will give me a credit of 638.00+38 for tax total 676 for the mattress only. This time I wanted the mattress replaced with the same type mattress but they couldnt do that because that style was discontinued and was told their is no comparble mattress replacement similar to the one I have, in that price range. left with no choice I had to choose another mattress and was forced to upgrade & pay the difference in price which was 458.00 for the third mattress a Sterns & Foster Plaza. Total spent so far,,,, 2029.00

6 months later the third mattress was also found to be defective. I am now thoroughly convinced that Sleepys is sell defective products, and since convinced of this, I now want a total refund of all moneys spent. I will purchase from another company. So far I spent 2029.0 on three defective mattress Enclosed is the paper work showing conformation from Sleepys that all 3 mattress were found to be defective. Tomorrow I going to file a Small Claims Court case in Passaic County

First mattress had a sag of 2.1/2 inches second 1.1/ 2 third 1.2/3

The credit that the company gave me inorder to purchas the goods recieved by the company. They gave me 1 year of interest free and when the promotion ended added about 300.00 worth of interest added to 490.00 which was my current balance. They told me that this was what i would have recieved over the year. in any circumstances interest should be given on the money owed NOT on the money Already recieved by the company and now every month i will recieve 300.00 on to my balance. which will make by balance WAY more than my total balance all togeather.

How am i possibly going to pay off this balance is everymonth 300 will be added. My credit will be detroyed and i will be bankrupt. If i knew they were going to do this to me i would ahve never opened the account. THIS is a scam and someone is not doing there job correctly to fix this issue and i am at a cross road and i dont know what to do anymore.

On top of that they recieved the application over the phone from my mother who wasnt present to read any of the documents. The man who did this KNEW this and still took her social and information with out as much as a licence number or photo ID to prove who she was. This is not good business and i feel that out a desperation the man over looked and misslead us on the sale, all to receieve his commition on the sale.

I bought a full mattress set in May, 2008. Less than a month later I called to say I believed the mattress was defective - permanent sag, springs poking, etc. I was told my comfort level is not included in their warranty, and my body is still adjusting to a new bed - give it more time. Not knowing better, I waited 2 more weeks, voiding the 21-day exchange policy. Two mattress inspections have happened and when in person, the inspector said it should be replaced. Sleepy's has told me the reports have complied with their warranty - it's mine to keep!

I call at least twice a week, for I am promised a supervisor will call to discuss the outcome, no one ever has. It is a defective product and the Sleepy's agents know ever tactic to rebuke their warranty. I have filed a complaint with MASS AG's office, Consumeraffairs, and a public consumer advocate all in an effort to have Sleepy's and their agents recognized as who they are: greedy & deceptive people.

For 2 weeks we slept on the floor, and refusing to give Sleepy's any more money out of our pockets, went to a local manufacturer to replace it. Sleepy's full set is waiting in our living room to be picked up (hopefully) and refunded. We have lost sleep, lost patience, lost productivity at work, gained back pain and frustration, and we are less 2200. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS BOGUS COMPANY!

Despite all my co-workers told me to never buy at Sleepy's, I did it and now I regretted. I ordered a Plush Sealy Posturpedic 2 weeks ago. Last week, I received a firm mattress. I called the costumer services and they told me the salesman put an order for a firm. So I asked for an exchange against a plush (no fee to pay according to their policy). Last friday, I took my afternoon off, I received an ultra plush mattress which is not a plush! So I refused it and asked to the customer services to have a real plush.

Yesterday, I received another ultra-plush mattress. I called the customer services (Melissa, if I remember)told me that a plush and an ultra-plush it is the same! And that if I want to exchange, I have to pay 249, which is half the price of the mattress. Also, she added I can't ask for a refund, it is not in their policy! I decided to go to the store where I bought this mattress. The manager told me also that a plush and ultra-plush mattress is the same. And also I have to pay 249 to exchange. They don't want to offer a discount because the price I paid (500) is low enough, neither to give me a refund.

So after spending 630 and having backaches, I am stuck with a mattress which doesn't suit me because of incompetent salesmen and customer services ever. I would add that there is no warranty on all their mattresses! So beware, never never buy at Sleepy's despite their discounted prices.
