Audrey of Howell, NJ, writes:
I purchased an outdoor cedar wood patio set from this manufacturer which consisted of a large table , 5 chairs, a bench for the table, and a porch swing which totaled $2,342.34. My family and I were eating dinner at the table late last summer when the bench collapsed, sending me to the concrete floor. This bench had only been used a few times prior to this accident. Upon looking at the bench, it turns out that the bench had not been made as we had been told by the manufacturer that it would be. It was only held together by very small screws that barely connected to the second piece of wood support. We had been told that the screws would be much longer than the ones he actually put in. The soft cedar wood split away from the small screw, and the bench collapsed. We examined the underside of the chairs and found that they too were improperly made and were ready to collapsed, entire screw was visible underneath, cedar wood had also split away. We contacted the manufacturer and he has refused to refund our money for the defective merchandise and has been very uncooperative in this matter. The benches and chairs he sells are dangerous to sit on and will collapse if used! I sustained a bruised coxic bone, which was very painful for several months, and still hurts to some extent. I was given painkillers for this condition by my family doctor. We also have $2,342.34 worth of outdoor furniture that we are afraid to sit on, unable to use. My next door neighbor purchased the same chairs, and the same problem exists with the screws in his chairs, so its not an isolated incident in the assembly. Report Your Experience
