Florida Warns Consumers about Homeward Bound

Clarice of Hollywood FL (11/06/07)
I've just suspected today, 11/6/07, that there was something wrong at Homeward Bound Services of Drexel Hill, PA. I checked the BBB and this company is a scam! My sister, age 62, has been paying on her Homeward Bound policy since Dec. 2005. She has brain cancer and is dying, with only weeks to live, as I write this. She also is a leg amputee and is bed-ridden! I have my sister at home and need help. I have been phoning Homeward Bound for services for her for over three weeks as she needed help even before she was diagnosed. HB does not return my calls or if they do, they give me a runaround.

I've been calling 1-888-448-4487. Would you kindly help us in some way? Can she get her money back so that we can use it to hire help right now? HB is taking her money every month, still. She has it automatically sent from her checking account.

Augusta of Lake Worth FL (05/07/07)
Mr. Altman sold me the policy for Homeward Bound Services in 2004. In February 2007, I called Homeward Bound and told them I had Inflamatory Arthritis in both hands and Diabetic neurophy also. I was informed they would take care of it. A couple of days later an agency called Friens CNA/HHA Activity called me and informed me they would be sending me help as per my contract. Four hours a day, 3 days a week. Help came and they were for the most part very helpful.

This service started February 9th and it was May 4, 2007 I received a call from the agency, they were cutting off my service as they had never been paid by Homeward Bound Services. In April 2007, I received a statement from Homeward Bound stating, they have to rise their rates, etc. and by new bill would be $2792.00 for the year ending April 30th, 2008, since I was getting good help, I sent them a check in the amont of $2792.00. I am upset that Mr. Altman must have known in March of the problems with Florida and Homeward Bound Services and did not see fit to tell me.

Now I cannot afford to hire help and I am 89 years old, my Husband is 94 and I have to help him. I still drive, do all our shopping and cooking. It is hard and very tiring for me to do all the work. I am constntly putting my hands in hot wax to bring the swelling down and the pain.
