I purchased two XL Air Purifiers. I purchased them to help with my allergies. At first, they worked well. They dramatically decrease the amount of dust/dusting in my house. Then, once I cleaned them, they never seemed to work as well. I did learn, thru trial and error, that I need to clean them about once a month in order for them to be effective in reducing dust. But it was about a year after I first starting using them before I cleaned them. I was waiting on the indication light to turn red, as instructed. But, it never did.

I figured after a year of service, 24/7, they should be dirty. They were very filthy inside, but the indication light never turned red. The motor in one quit working after about 18 months. However, I oiled it and it worked fine after that. Now I oil the motor and bearings every year and after three years now, they have not stopped working.

I am not happy with the performance of these XL's. The infomerical implies that this is the best thing since sliced bread. It does collect alot of dust. I can not tell if it is killing viruses/bacteria like it states that it does...my family still gets colds and virus infections. But it has not made any difference in my allergies, which was my orginial issue for the purchase. It picks up dust...thats about all I can testify to. I do not recommend this product nor any other product that Oreck hypes up to sell...It's lies. I believe a HEPA filter product would be just as effective and I wouldn't have the aggrevation of cleaning it once every month.

650 for two XL units...about twice as much as they are really worth.

I don't have a complaint as such, but I was thinking of buying an Orek air purifier. Before buying anything and spending money I always look for reviews about the item I'm thinking of buying and came across this site which has proved to be very useful and has influenced my decision not to buy an air purifier from Orek. I did buy an Orek vacuum cleaner about 10 years ago which is still going strong and is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever used, so far it has never gone wrong and beats the Dyson for cleaning, (the Dyson cleaner I bought fell to bits days after I bought it!)

But the Orek Hokey carpet sweeper I bought at the same time turned out to be useless as it didn't pick up anything. I also ordered from Orek replacement belts and bags for the vacuum cleaner which I paid for with a credit card at the time of ordering, only to receive unpleasant letters from Orek saying I hadn't paid for my order. Maybe I do have a complaint, albeit a few years too late. But, nevertheless, the comments on this site have been very useful to me.

I have purchased three of these tabletop air purifiers or air filters and all three of them ceased to work. The lights are on and the fan is running but it doesn't have any high voltage for the electrostatic filter.

I have dismantled the units to find that the secondary of the transformer is open. This makes the unit think it is working, but it is not. Not one, not two, but three units were pooped out. The Oreck dealer had expensive replacement boards, but I didn't want another substandard unit. The high voltage flyback type transformers need to be higher rating to be robust enough for real life application.

I still have not replaced the units. I am out the purchase prices. I still need a couple good air filters.

I ordered an Oreck XL Professional Air Purifier. I received it on time Feb. 10/09. The free gifts, the Cordless ElectrikBroom and Refrigerator Air Purifier were on back orded. I was told they would be in, from 3 to 4 weeks. I called today March 30/09. I was told that the back order could be up to as long as another 4 to 5 weeks. I can under stand somethings, but to waite up to 13 weeks for a back order is a little unreasonable.

By all of the bad reviews I have read about on this Air Purifier. I wonder if I made a good investment, Time will tell. I also ordered a CO2 vacuum on line when it was on TV. Let me tell you it was another disaster. I will tell you if something sounds to good to be true, it usually is. Before you buy on line from a TV add make sure you check the product out good and don't trust the testimonials. They only tell you what the company wants them to say and will never mention the down side of the product. Thanks.

I bought an Oreck Air Purifier and Oreck Vacuum in November 2008 while attending a trade show. I received the Air Purifier in a timely fashion, but did not receive the vacuum as promised. I was then told the model I ordered was discontinued and that it could be replaced at a higher cost, with a new version of the original. I didn't think the value was good, so I cancelled the vacuum order all together. Oreck STILL shipped the item anyway in January 2009 and debited my bank account for the total amount.

I called customer service to complain and to return the unwanted item, and they agreed to send a call tag for the return of the vacuum and agreed to credit my account for the amount charged. The call tag came within a week and the item was shipped back to Oreck. It is now March 24, 2009 and I still have NOT received my refund for the charge against my bank account, and Oreck seems to have conveniently LOST all of my ordering information so they are claiming they cannot give me my refund. I have been back and forth in emails with excuse after excuse, and no one cares to help me with this matter and nothing has been reolved.

Anyone who orders and returns merchandise should be given a prompt refund as a company promises without having to go through this kind of aggravation to get a refund.
