Lucille Roberts - Other Complaints

Lucille Roberts
Self-Renewing Contracts
Cancellation Fees
Facilities
Other Problems

Marlene of N Miami Beach, FL (11/15/05)
I was a member of the Lucille Roberts fitness club. When I moved from New York (9/05) to Florida I called customer service to cancel my account since they don't have any locations in Florida. Their representative told me in order to cancel my membership I should fax a copy of my current bank statement and a utility bill showing the new address. I did and thought everything would be resolved since the representative seemed so helpful.

Two months later I received a letter, forwarded to my new FL address, from a collection agency for $47! Apparently my account was not closed with Lucille Roberts Fitness and they continued to bill my old, closed bank account.

I called customer service again and was informed that my account was never closed and that there wasn't any record of me even calling in September. I'm worried because I faxed them my personal documents and now my personal banking information might be floating around or in the wrong hands.

Rosemary of Monmouth Beach NJ (4/15/03):
Joined 2/2001. Informed rep. in West Long Branch New Jersey faciity that I had CLL and that if I required additional cancer treatments and could not use the facilities could I cancel. Was told yes, no problem, just call main office and they would stop deducting monthly fee from my checking account. Had my doctor send two notes. They responded with letter stating wording not as they required. They extended my membership for 6 months. In Feb. 2003, they are still deducting from my checking account. I call to cancel and they will refund me Feb. and Mar. 2003 but not all the other costs to me for services I could not use.

Because of a compromised immune system I would be in danger of contacting any viruses, colds, germs, etc. that could cause grave results for me. They have shown no consideration and have not even responded to my emails, phone calls, etc. Records will show that I have used the faciities less than a 1/2 doz. times and am entitled to a full refund. What action should I take to recover my $616.52.

Carolyn of New York, NY (2/9/03):
The location of this gym closed down without warning its customers (although I had asked three days prior to this closing about a rumor that I had heard and they lied to me point blank). I had a month-to-month acount set up where they charged my credit card directly. They have continued to charge my credit card and I cannot speak to anyone at Lucille Roberts Customer Service who is even remotely knowledgeable or helpful. They are taking money from me without providing a service, which, in my limited understanding, is entirely illegal.
