Unfortunately I did not read the reviews online. I read their website reviews. Tv is diabolical. Have it two days, in all honesty you wouldn’t believe all the issues. Like nothing is working. I am waiting for response and I just want full refund. Don’t even want it to be fixed. I wished I splashed out the extra €50 on a proper television. I can only laugh at how bad it is. Don’t buy the product.

I had an abysmal experience with Akai Ireland. I purchased a TV from them over a week ago, and it was never delivered. Their customer service is nonexistent, full of lies, and they happily took my money without delivering the product. Avoid this company at all costs.

I purchased Akai smart TV in July. Within 3 months it started creating a problem, now getting vertical and horizontal lines on screen. I raised a case, waiting for support, they'll take 24-72 hrs for support. Very bad experience with Akai TV, within 3 months it started. I did a big mistake, you please careful.

Had called service centre 68 times. No proper reply. Technical support is zero. No one visited or called us. Can't expect such things from an Japanese company. Very unsatisfactory. NOW I think {mi}tv are better than Akai.

I purchased a "Smart TV" from Akai only to find out later despite claims it can connect to the internet, that it is incapable of browsing and only interacts with specific sites. To claim "Smart TV" status, but to fail to offer browsing is in my opinion, totally fraudulent. That's my last Akai purchase ever.

Our Akai a/c which was under warranty broke down on the 1st hot day of summer. We called Tempo who service these in Australia. The unit was assessed & we spent the next 8 weeks continually calling to see when it was to be repaired. 3 weeks later we were told that the parts hadn't been ordered. We were then told that if the parts didn't arrive the week later, the unit would be replaced. We didn't hear back. Again we had call & call, to be told that the repairer had broken his leg. We were then told that they could replace it with an inferior less powerful model, to which we obviously rejected.

After screaming down the phone one very hot & sweaty day, I finally got to speak to a manager, who told me that it was unusual that he spoke to customers (REALLY???). He told me that they had no units to replace ours. I told him that his company is completely incompetent with NO PARTS, NO REPAIRER, NO REPLACEMENTS & ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE.

After having to rant & rave, the unit was replaced, UNDERHANDEDLY WITH THE INFERIOR MODEL THAT WE HAD REJECTED. We feel that they should have replaced it a month earlier with a superior model & a HUGE APOLOGY!!! This has been a very stressful experience, not only due to heat & discomfort, but it cost us $174 for initial assessment. The hours we have spent phoning & waiting for repairers is huge & it is time we will never get back.

We bought this tv from Sam's for next to nothing as a floor model in 2009. About 2 years ago the DVD player stopped working but other than that it's still going strong. Other than the fact that I can't hang it, I really can't complain. I got my money's worth!

Bought AKAI PDP4225M in 2006. Sound keeps going off. JUNK, don't buy AKAI, they do not last. Most of my TVs last 15 to 20 years. Not this one, ripping of the American public.

Same problem as Teresa of Navarre, FL dated Nov. 9, 2012. TV worked ok for a few years (intermittent use as we have a better one) until a recent move. For the past week, putting the TV ON (remote or manual), the red light goes out, then comes back. We have to start again many times, until it finally stays ON (from 15 tries to 25, so far). On occasion, it also makes a clicking sound, as if a circuit breaker popped. Any idea? I like the display and brightness, but cannot waste time trying to get the set ON. Thanks for your help.

Roughly after a year after purchasing the TV, it started making a humming noise when you first turned it on but the humming sound would disappear after 2 mins or so once it got going. Now it will not turn on at all, I'm very disappointed and cannot afford to purchase a new one at this time. At the time of purchase we thought we were getting a good deal but we were sadly mistaken. I will never purchase this name brand and I will make sure I tell everyone on Facebook about this cheap, useless TV.

Brought TV home. An AKAI pth5498 2002 54in projection TV had a picture that night but color wasn’t right next day. Pushed button, TV won’t power up; red timer light stays on. It doesn’t have a remote. I read where a universal remote can work but instructions say TV needs be on to program but it doesn’t turn on. IDK what to do. Think all fuses have been checked. All good from what I see. What can be done?

I purchased an Akai 32" TV/DVD combo about 4 years ago. The DVD stopped working completely after only one year! The remote control stopped working about that time also! For the past 2 years, there has been a loud buzzing sound coming from the TV when it is first turned on, but it eventually stops and the normal TV audio can be heard. Just yesterday the sound died completely! I have done everything possible to try and remedy the audio problem, but nothing. So frustrated! The 800 number for Akai is no longer in service! I cannot afford a new TV at this time, and I am so disappointed with this TV! I hate throwing money away, which is exactly what I did by purchasing an Akai product. I will never purchase anything of Akai brand again, and I just wanted to help warn others to stay away from their products!

I got this TV from my brother because it is having the same problems that everyone else on this blog is talking about, mainly the power shutting off. I tried some of the things suggested that I read, i.e., unplugging then plugging back in. That would work for a while but it would still shut off after a period of time. Some of what I had read had talked about the caps heating up... So I checked out the power supply area on the back of the TV. I then realized it was really hot right where the power cord was. I put a little fan right on that spot and amazing enough, the TV has been able to stay on. Who knows for how long but I thought I would let you all know. Good luck!

I purchased an Akai 32" LCD TV/DVD combo from Sam's club in 2007. The product was repaired once within the first year. The DVD stopped working 2 years after purchase and now the TV won't turn on the first try. I have to stand there pushing the button on the side of the TV. It started off with having to push it 3-5 times, but each day requires more pushes. I needed 50 tries tonight to get the TV to turn on and stay on. Sound comes through immediately but no picture; goes to green light but immediately gets back to red till it finally comes on. The picture quality is alright but night scenes are sometimes too dark to view well and adjusting does not help. Very disappointed and will never purchase an Akai product again.

Akai (AKA Scott) 37in LCD TV - From day one, very poor design. Each time you change the channel, the audio goes to default mono. So each time, you have to reset to stereo. This is significant because many channels on mono are not comprehensible. I called the service center, and was told there is no fix for this. No proportional zoom, so if you are watching a program in letterbox or other reduced format, you're squinting at a small picture in the midst of a bigger screen. Dumb. The TV has to be almost at exactly a 90 degree angle to the remote or it won't turn on. Lastly, the on-off light is so tiny and dim that in the daytime you can't tell if you turned it on or not. Finally, after just a couple of years it burned out. Total rubbish. I will never buy another Akai product and shame on them for hiding behind another name.

I bought an Akai 42" TV from Sam's on 4/07 and bought an extended warranty for 3 years. Within that time I had to call Sam's for repair on 11/09. They fixed it and now it’s having the same problem. I called the same repair service. They told me that now that it isn't under warranty anymore, they couldn't get the parts. The TV still works after turning off and on a few times. I tried calling the 800 number, but there’s no answer. Why would someone be able to sell something like this and not be able to service the product? I am just waiting to buy another brand of TV when this one goes completely out. We need to go back to the old analog TVs - they last longer. I still have one that I don't use. I’m thinking about using it. I am so disappointed in this TV.

We have an Akai 27" wide screen LCD TV/DVD Combo that is only a couple of years old purchased at Costco. This was an extra TV for the kitchen, so it has not been used a lot. Today, I turned it on and it was fine for about 30 seconds, then I heard a pop and the TV was off. The red light on the front was blinking. I read through everything in the manual and never found anything to say why the red light was blinking. That's when I decided to look online and found that lots of others were having the same problem. I will definitely never purchase an Akai product again. I can't believe that an attorney has not already gotten a class action lawsuit going against Akai. This is unacceptable!

I own 2 Akais 2785 and 2701; both were used, and after time, they needed power boards which are $45 each through eBay. The 2785 is my monitor DVI to HDMI. The 2701 suffered another issue--logic control board--which I found on eBay for $20. And I am not fixing it. The screen fits both models and about 20 to 30 other brands and models. Today, parts are cheaper if you can find them and interchangeable with other brands. And they may sell for even less, depending on the brand name. Akai shares same parts as other brands. Part number and problem identification is vital. I thought I would share that with you all.

First issue was TV stopped responding to remote control. It then took increasingly longer time to respond to holding the "on" button. It took over a minute and half of continuous depression to come on. Then it stopped responding to any depression of the "on" button regardless of how long held. It still refuses to respond to remote. Basically, it is dead! It has been that way a while. I am very ** off! We started having trouble within a year or so from purchase.
