Akai

Daniel of Tellico Plains, TN October 30, 2009

I bought a AKAI 32"TV from Radioshack. It was a display model, so I got the open box extended warranty which give me a 2 year manufactures warranty.I purchased the tv on 10/27/07. The problem started on 10/29/09, 2 days after the warranty went out. Now I have to hit the button several times or unplug it to get it to turn on. I called Radioshack. They told me that my warranty had just went out two days ago. There wasn't anything they could do for me.

I am complaining about my 32"Akai HD LCD tv just bought over 2 years ago. Ben in Las Vegas online here has described the SAME exact thing! I've been unplugging it before turning it on-in order for it to work-and yesterday it did not!!I've now written emails and left a voicemail for akaiusa customer support online. There either should be a recall on this or free parts/repairs to make good on all of these complaints. Radio Shack,Jericho Tpke., New Hyde Park, NY where I bought it,and who installed it here, of course is taking no responsibility. Thanks for your help.

I bought a Akai HD TV 2 1/2 years ago and now its not turning on anymore. Earlier I had to re plug it then the tv will turn on now its not working at all. I try to turn on the tv the button turns green then back to red then it makes a weird noise. This tv is JUNK and When we bought it back then it was expensive not cheap this really makes me angry. I have another tv that is way older then me and it still works and this one can't even last for 3 years.

We also purchased a Akai 32 inch tv about three years ago at Cosco. On Sunday, October 25, 2009 in the middle of Sunday football the TV went out. It started with portions of the screen not showing, we even called the cable company thinking it was the cable. Needless to say it wasn't the cable. The Akai tv has not come back on since. Absolutely no picture. Include me in the lawsuit as well.

Purchased a Akai 42" lcd from Sams Club 1.5 years ago. Now like everyone else it does not work, cost to repair is almost as much as the tv and you get NO response from Akai.

Biggest piece of junk I have ever bought.

Isaac of Brattleboro, VT October 9, 2009

Bought a 22 inch Akai LCD TV at Radio Shack 3 years ago. Would not power on after one year. Radio Shack reluctantly replaced it as a warranty issue. Since that time the tv won't turn on occasionally...I have to unplug the converter and plug it back in. Now when I turn it on it makes a swooshing noise and the picture flickers. Three years old, and it wasn't the cheapest one on the shelf either. In the store it had a nice picture and cost me just over 400. I thought LCD's were supposed to last forever.

Trevor of Houston, TX October 6, 2009

I purchased an Akai 42" LVD TV form SAM's just over two years ago. 6 months later the TV developed problems. It took me about 2 months to find a contact who will listen to my problem. The TV was picked up by Bammel TV who said the TV had to be sent to LA. A truck picked it up. After about 6 months I received an OLD dusty replacement which loked like it was a demo TV in a dusty old store.

I was so upset that I felt that I could send this TV back. Actually I tried to but the office never returned any calls. Now, approximately a year later the picture showslike a shadow. I have lost my 1500 spent on this Akai and it looks like I have no recourse.

Can any one help me recover from this problem. My family is back to looking at a Tube. This company does not deserve to have any product on any shelf for sale in the world. It is a ripoff. I should get at least 10 years service trouble free from an expensive product like this. I have lost 1500 have been deprived of enjoyment of my purchase. It is embarassing for me to tell people of this story. I feel like a fool buying a product like this.

Kimby of Carlisle , OH September 29, 2009

My experience is the same. I bought my TV and it didnt have a remote. Tried to get one to no avail the people speak no English and offer no suggestions. Now the power suppy is out. This should be recalled, in todays economic times in consideration my children will not have a TV cant afford one, single mother of 2, jobless! We saved to buy this Tv two years ago.

Carol of Schnecksville, PA September 27, 2009

A purchase of an Akai LCD TV at Sam's Club about 3 yrs. ago (of course it is out of warranty). The TV does not turn on at all. Actually my brother purchased this TV for my father who since passed away and the TV was given to me. A response from Akai customer care is futile. If there is a class action lawsuit I would like to be included. A piece of junk!

James of washington, PA September 22, 2009

I to have an AKAI TV with a power supply problem, actually the third one. the first 2 had the identical problem, turned on then went off, progressivly got worse till it would not stay on. Sam's club exchanged both units as they were in the allowed time frame. The present unit AKAI LCT3201AD which I purchased on April 22nd 2007 worked fine until August 2009, then started the exact same problem. I purchased one year extended warranty, (apparently not enough) talked to Sam's Club and was told it was out of warrenty and that they are no longer handling AKAI tv's. The tv cost 879.00, and now seeing all the other complaints of exactly the same problem, don't know what to do. I think a class action lawsuit is in order.
