purchased 20"lcd tv/dvd player combo less then 3years no longer works purchased from Sam's Club were i worked in fall of 2006 Manufactored dATE MAY 2006

Karen of St. Charles, MO September 22, 2009

Bought an Akai 32" with DVD player from Sam's Club three years ago after shopping around. Now we realize that we have wasted money we don't have to waste on a television that apparently was not built to last. Remote quit working first but was able to use remote from cable provider. Now the set won't turn on...green light immediately turns red again. Not getting it fixed...don't have any more money to waste.

Richard of Ft Myers, FL September 20, 2009

Purchased an AKAI 2701 TV with a built-in DVD Player approx 18 mos - 24 mos. ago. The TV remote first started to malfunction -(checked and replaced batteries. It would work some time and not other times. Now the remote does not work but you can still turn on the TV manuall and go thru the channels. DVD works. I guess I am luckiers than others but consumers beware - DON'T purchase AKAI TVs. I too have noticed that COSTCO is stocking any of them.

Rocco of Waterbury, CT September 18, 2009

Bought an Akai 32" tv 3 yrs ago and it will not turn on. Cannot get a response from website. Repair will cost over 200 and original price of tv was 900. Sounds like it is a common complaint and will even recur if the tv is repaired. Is there a class action suit out there? Out 900 for a tv that won't work. owners are 80 yo individuals that cannot easily afford to replace tv.

Sylvia of Union, NJ September 17, 2009

I have been reading your reports online and I too have experienced the same exact thing. About a year ago, the TV just went off and never cut back on. We've replaced the batteries but to no avail. The problem is in the power supply and the TV repairman advised that he would charge me 250 to repair it. Meanwhile, from what I have read with other complaints, it will happen again. AKAI's business representatives are abroad and have not returned my numerous inquiries sent to them regarding this television. We paid about 850.00 for this TV and we truly don't appreciate being taken. I should've spent the extra 400 bucks and purchased a Toshiba or Sony.

Dina of houston, TX September 17, 2009

My husband purchased me an Akai 37 inch Lcd/dvd combo tv not quite 2 years ago. The t.v. worked fine in the beginnning. Now there is a problem with the power pack. The t.v wont turn on. Took it to a repair man who wants 200.00 to fix it. But, from what he told me and what I have just read on this website it will happen again. So I chose not to pay to fix this piece of junk.

I have tried along with everyone else to contact Akai by email and phone. No suprise they havent returned the messages. The t.v. hadnt been used that much for it was in storage when we moved for about 6 months. This really [is bad] for people to be out of money like this with theses tv's. Lawsuit anyone....please count me in.

Michael of austin, MN September 8, 2009

as I sit here in anger after reading all these complaints mine is no different. I bought a new Akai 27" lcd tv for 500.00 at radio shack. last night i was watching tv it was working fine, this morning my wife tried turning tv on, nothing except the blink of the standby light. i've had this tv for 1 year 9 months. it seems alot of people have the identical problem.

like so many others my efforts to contact someone at Akai was fruitless. i truly think something in the order of a class action lawsiut is in order. mabye if an attorny gave them a ring they may answer or return their calls or e-mails. it would be nice just to get a response from Akai or maybe they are already aware of the problem and choose not to respond.

in that case i will never buy an Akai again and never say anything good about any Akai product. help me spread the word tell everyone that Akai is a company that doesn't stand by its products. I have a family and can't afford to be trowing away 500.00

Peggy of Chalfont, PA September 7, 2009

I purchased a 27" AKAI flat screen LCD television / DVD player from Costco on 1/18/2006. Today while watching a movie, the it shut off and has a flashing red light only. Currently I am unable to get the TV to turn on and after checking online, I see that there are many people experiencing the same issue with this manufacturer.

Timothy of Passaic, NJ September 7, 2009

SCOTT LCD 32" TV. Bad power supplies. TV shut off after being on for 2 mins or less. I went online to find the sight for SCOTT tv's and there isn't one, but I did find that AKAI is now responsible for these TV's.

What I also found is the numerous people have this problem and I feel that because of the amount of complaints that they should of recalled or give people a new board through a contracted repair. Had to wait 2 weeks for a replacement through my extended service plan, if i dind't have that I would of been screwed.

Valerie of Vineland, NJ September 2, 2009

Purchased an Akai LCT3201AD 32" Wide-Screen LCD TV/DVD Player Combo on October 16, 2006 for a purchase price of 899.99 + tax from BJ's Wholesale Club. About a year and a half after purchase the remote stopped working and was not replaceable by Akai. Not too shortly after that the TV would not turn on. Inquired to Akai and of course it was out of warranty so I had it repaired at a 400.00 cost; told it was the power supply. Not 4 months after the repair, it is not working again for the same reason I had it repaired the first time. I have made numerous attempts to contact Akai customer "care" center by telephone and email and no one has ever responded - very frustrating. Even went on the Akai worldwide website and emailed my dissatisfaction with no response. I feel that I was sold a lemon television and they are not willing to stand behind their products. A television for 1300.00 (after cost of repair) should still be working after 2-1/2 years. I have contacted BJ's Wholesale Club and will see when the operations manager returns from vacation if they will be able to replace the tv or be able to contact the distributor on my behalf. I want BJ's to know that they should no longer carry Akai products. They are ripping consumers off; evidently their "customer care" center really does not care at all. If you look in the manual that was supplied with the TV there is no address to contact them by mail or on their website. I will be willing to pursue this until I receive a resolution. It is the principle of the fact that Akai wants to ignore dissatisfied consumers until they give up and go away.
