Philips & Magnavox

Deanna of Bozeman, MT November 22, 2009

I also was ripped off by phlips magnovox. I purchased a 52in plasma one year ago for $1497.00. Now It won't even turn on. I contacted the "customer service" and was told because the warranty expired they weren't allowed to tel me anything about the tv. We saved for a year to buy a tv and now have no means to replace it nor do we have the $400-$600 to fix it. I can't believe they are getting away with this.

Pao of Akron, OH November 22, 2009

I bought a flat 62" big screen tv model# 60PL9200D/37 from Samsclub last couple year ago and after the first year my tv have some blinking and it went death. I did tried to call Philips customer and they told me that I need some maintain done there's nothing they can do because they warranty is out. I think i just throw $1700.00 in to trash. I do need some justice for for this. please do something to stop these people making junk.

Raul of Homestead, FL November 21, 2009

I have a Phillips Flat screen TV in which I've been having an issue with TV turning on. There is a red-light flashing, in which it has happened before several times in the past and by me unplugging the TV for several minutes it would resume working. Now the red light is flashing but TV does not turn on at all.

I've tried to contact Phillips however the automated service apperently will not help because it has been over a year of having the TV. It states there is no live person to help with my product. TV does not work, no assistance from Phillips.

clem of fort payne, AL November 20, 2009

called customer service for help in reprograming 3 year old tv. was told that since there is only 1 year warranty on tvs that they would not help me. I feel that they should be proud that the tv lasted past one year. this is an insult and i will not buy another phillips magnavox tv. i am in the market for a larger screened tv but it will not be magnavox

Kevin of Carrollton, TX November 19, 2009

I've had my Philip 42" plasma for 2 years 4 months then got the 7 binking led's. Called tech support to find out what the error code meant got the warranty questions and no tech support availiable. Did a googled to find the 7 blinking error code and found I purchased a lemon and wanted to add my name to the list so if some action is taken for the unfortunate one's that got no resolution or was not as lucky as me. Wanted to thank the people with the capasitor info. I have basic electronic skills and that fix my problem.

Denise of Marysville, CA November 19, 2009

I purchased a 50" Magnavox Plasma TV (Model 50MF231/D) 3 years ago at top dollar $2300.00. I thought I was getting one of the best TV's ever. I have been noticing problems off and on for a few months now. It would lose the picture, for no apparent reason, but that was nothing compared to what I am going through now. It takes me over 1 hour to start my TV up. I have to plug and unplug for 1 hour every day to get it to work. RIDICULOUS!!! I called a mobile technician and he said the part I need is a power board supply based on the red light flashing 4 times quickly non-stop until I unplug it. So to top things off, yep, you guessed it, the part is NOT available!!! Now, my tv is turning on in the middle of the night, after I have turned it off, and then starts flashing red. I am concerned of fire so now as a precaution I unplug it before I go to bed. I am going to continue to try to get a hold of somebody to see if I can get any help. I'm sure that I am wasting my time but it is worth a shot. MAYBE!!!!

stephanie of McMinnville, OR November 18, 2009

Same problem as most are having with this model. 42pf9431D/37E 42" Plasma. Sound goes out since brand new. Will come back on after turning TV off then on again. Screen would go black or very bright multi-colored on half for about a week or two periodically after having it 2 years. Then just black altogether. After turning it off then back on as suggested in manual, it stayed off/black and has 7 blinking red lights.

When I contacted customer support via e-mail, it was recommended I send a letter to corporate. Our second e-mail has yet to be answered. When I called the customer service/support number I was not allowed to speak to anyone since I didn't have an extended warranty. When I instant chatted with Rita, she said I had an internal component failure and to contact a TV repair shop. No help, no suggestions, then she logged off.

I mentioned all of the other people's complaints, that it should be a defect, or recall... didn't matter. Please add me to any class action law suit there hopefully will be. A costly amount paid for a TV that didn't last. About $2000. Not to mention the cost it will require to repair.

Becky of Durham, NC November 18, 2009

Purchased a 42in. Plasma TV from SAM's Club in 2006. Almost immediately the picture started going out but we thought it was our cable because it only happened occasionally. Well now we only have one half of a screen the bottom half is black. Paid a lot of money for this t.v. and feel it should have lasted longer than 2.5 years.

Count me in on any law suit against Philips. It appears from all the complaints here that they should be liable for such a defective product. They should not get by with this.

Cheryl of Bergen, NY November 18, 2009

On February 22, 2007, we purchased a 50" Magnavox DLP HDTV (model # 50ML8105D/17). We have other Phillips products in our home and know that Phillip purchased Magnavox. Magnavox is supposed to be a "good" name brand. Man were we fooled. Around May of 2007, the television started shutting off. The red light of death went on. We turned off the TV and let it cool down. This process became a regular thing. Whenever the inside temperature reached 75 degrees the tv would turn.

We called the customer service several times and we were told it was "operating correctly, buy shutting down to cool off", that it was too close to a wall or that it probably has some dirt inside. So we started using having an external fan blowing in front of the television to keep it cool. This is positioned by the side of the light. During our cold winter months in NY, the television operated fine. In February of this year we had to purchase a new lamp. We got varying prices including installation charges. We installed it ourselves at a cost of $149.97.

My husband called and of course by now it's "out of warranty". He tried to climb the chain at Maganavox, but they said to send a letter. I have a $1,000 piece of junk basically in my living room. With the new lamp, the television will not operate with inside temperatures of 71 degrees or higher. so now I need a permananet external fan blowing on it year round. What a rip off their customer service is. I will NEVER buy Phillips or Magnavox again.

Andries of douglasville, GA November 18, 2009

I live in Atlanta. At the top end of the 285 bypass there is a high rise with the PHILIPS logo in massive highlighted lettering on the topside of the building. The light in one of these letters has been out for more than a year. That about sums it all up for this electronics company.

My 37pfl5322d37 Philips tv power went out last night, would not come back on. The product is only a year and a half old,and out of warranty. It looks like I have no hope of getting it fixed.

Phil of Portland, OR November 14, 2009

Same problem as many others. TV stopped turning on after less than two years. Im out $800 and am told they cant help me because its out of warranty. Very disappointed, I will not buy their products.

L of Little Rock, AR November 14, 2009

Purchased Magnavok 42MF231D/37 42" Plasma on 3/2007 and the screen went black today just like the rest of the complaints. You can hear the sound but no PICTURE. Paid 1200.00 for a TV that last only two years. We must file a FTC complaint and should file a class action lawsuit. I immediately contacted consumer services for Phillips and got the same results as everyone else. I was told to turn off TV and turn it back on. That did not help. I was told to take it in for service at my expense. Include my complaint in all legal actions.

Anthony of Anchorage, AK November 13, 2009

I had purchased a 51 inch Philips projection tv (51PP9200D/37) In July of 2006. Like the other unfortunate consumers who had purchased a Philips Television I now have a $1400.00 pile of junk sitting in my living room that cant be fixed because Philips cant admit that they have parts that are a major fire danger and should have been recalled. Instead they discontinue the part so the consumer is stuck with a TV that you cant fix after only 3 yrs..

The reason I am saying all this is because I was leaving to work 2 nights ago and my tv started sounding like a stun gun going off and all i could see was sparks coming from the back of the tv the only way to stop it was to unplug it. I just thank god this happened while I was still in the house other wise I would be coming home to a burnt down house. After doing some research I had found that the High Voltage Transformer had gone bad and was arcing out. I have tried to find this part and had learned that it was discontinued by Philips it is understandable do too the fire hazard and theme avoiding a recall.Instead of fixing the problem they pretty much have told the many other consumers of this same brand television that have had the same problem "too Bad"

Jeff of Renton, WA November 12, 2009

I purchased a Philips 42" plasma tv (42pf9630a/37) several years ago. From day 1 I had problems with the unit. While still under waranty, there was a problem with the sound-there was a rattle in one of the speakers. The first repairman recommended by Philips took two shots at fixing it but failed. A second company made it better but it has never been 100%.

As time went by, it developed a problem with the sound completely dropping out. Turning the unit off and then back on again would take care of the issue but it was annoying nonetheless.

Now we are faced with the blinking LED of death. We turned the unit on the other day, the picture came on then the unit turned itself off and gave us the error / warning of the red LED blinking 7 times. from what I have read, there are possible fixes-none of which Philips will assist in as it is past its waranty period. It sounds like the fix is going to cost more than a new tv would cost.

I'm currently watching my 25 year old Sony that still works GREAT. Lets see, Sony/25+ years and still going strong vs. Philips/3 years and dead.

Narriman of Cleveland, OH November 11, 2009

Philips 50" plasma TV 50PF7321D/37, same problem red death light. past the one year warranty by few months. please file a complaint with the FTC federal trade commission at their web site www.ftc.gov against Philips. Too many people had the same problem to ignore.

Nasser of Brunswick, OH November 11, 2009

Philips 50" plasma TV 50PF7321D/37, same problem red flashing light. The problem started prior to the expiration of the manufacture warranty, after calling Philips I was told to unplug and replug the TV, and it will work. A few months latter nothing will happen and the TV will not work any more needless to say the it's was past the one year warranty by a month. Let's each one of us file a complaint with the FTC federal trade commission at their web site www.ftc.gov against Philips and let our government take care of this. Too many people had the same problem to ignore.

dave of Oroville, CA November 9, 2009

bought a magnavox 42 inch tv for roughly 1200.00 that lasted just over 2 years

Christy of San Luis Obispo, CA November 7, 2009

I have the same 42" Plasma flat screen t.v. that died with the blinking lights. Forget trying to get them to do anything about..terminal problem...tv repairman wont even touch it. He says go buy another tv and take this one to the dump! Out $2500 for a tv that lasted only 2 years at best.

Ben of Queensburry, NY November 6, 2009

I have a 50" Philips Plasma that blinks red 7 times and no picture. Called Philips and they said "Call a TV repair shop". Went online to get help and nothing is posted on their website. Their tech support said that it means some internal component is failing. It looks like many people are experiencing the same issue. Does this qualify for a case that should have been recalled? Is there such thing as consumer protection?

Gayle of Aspen, CO November 6, 2009

Purchased a 19" LCD TV a few years ago and it keeps turning off. I can't get a picture and it will cost more to repair than it originally cost. I realize MANY other consumers have had the same thing happen to their LCD tvs.

graham of matawan, NJ November 5, 2009

Blinking red light 50PF9630A/37 same as thousands of others. Intermitent green/blank screen for the last year and then red light blinking 7 times and no picture only sound. Great if you want to go back to the era of radio. NEVER buy Philips

Brian of Santee, CA November 4, 2009

my Phillips 50" plasma had the same blinking red light. i think it's the starter or something. when the light blinks, i unplug it and replug in. when i hear the second click inside the tv, i wait about ten seconds and unplug it. i do that about 6-7 times and at first i hear sound then after a couple more times i see the picture.

it's a pain to turn my tv on, but until i can find an answer on how to get it fixed, and for cheap, because the tv was not, this is what i have to do. i'm not buying phillips next time. it takes me about ten minutes to turn my tv on.

Gary of Westminster, MD November 3, 2009

Purchased a 47" LCD Philips Tv on 8/29/09 and it developed a single white line, from the top to the bottom. Called customer service and they were going to send me a reburished one from the warehouse. Nothing came and I called back, was advised no 47" tv's were left in the warehouse, but they would buy my tv back.

I said this was unacceptable, since I bought the tv on sale and had to open a charge account, to get the sale price, and I couldn't buy another tv with there buy back money. Lady said buy back was my only option. I'm stuck with a defective tv.

Jeff of Pittsburgh, PA November 2, 2009

Same as everyone else, paid good money for my 42" class, shortly out of warranty, half screen, then red light flashes, now nothing, repair shop says $1,000 to fix it. Count me in on any action. out of $2500 with very few hours of viewing

Niki of Lauderhill, FL November 2, 2009

I am so devastated to see all these posts I had no idea. I bought my husband a Philips 42 Plasma at Brandsmart 3 years ago for $2800. I thought it was my Direct TV HD box that was acting up and had that replaced. Well of course that didnt help and this started about 1 year ago occasional black screen no picture or audio and now it happens daily three, four, five times in the few hours we watch tv. Oh yeah and a popping sound that makes everyone jump, we have heard that a few times too. How can Philips get away with this.

Rodney of Knightdale, NC October 27, 2009

I have not had this TV for less than 3 yrs. I paid a lot of money for this PLasma made by Philips. The model is 42pf7321d/37. I am getting three red lights blinking on the front of the TV and getting no picture. Philips is not help in this situation at all. I have older TV that are functioning fine. I have checked online and it seems this product is a bad product made by Philips. I should not have to pay 500.00 to get the TV fixed when it is not even 3 yrs old. I need to know is there a lawsuit against them for having some many bad TV's.

John of Davis, CA October 22, 2009

I bought a philips lcd tv 5000 series in Germany when I was stationed there. I got a great deal on it so I bought it new. The store clerk at media markt (like the german bestbuy) said it would work fine in the states. I get home and it wont get my comcast cable, it dosnt see the signal. I call philips and one guy just dosnt care, he tells me to wikipedia the problem. I call again and the other guy is sorta helpful. he tells me that im out of luck and hes sorry. I dont know what to do. i cant exactly go back to germany and return my television.

Joseph of West Lawn, PA October 22, 2009

I purchased a 50" Phillips plasma(model number 50PFP5332D/37) tv a little over a year ago and now I have no video. No audio issues but no video. When I looked at getting it fixed, it would cost over $300 to have a "licensed" Phillips dealer fix it. The warranty went out a few months before the tv did and I am still paying on the tv! When I called Phillips customer service, when I finally got to speak with someone, they were of no help. All they did was "direct" me to a licensed repair shop. They couldn't help me due to the expired warranty. I always thought that Phillips made good electronics, but now that I see all of these complaints about customer service and their products I will be taking my business elsewhere but I would like to know if I can sue them so if anyone, like an ATTORNEY, is reading this please contact me.

karrie of st petersburg, FL October 20, 2009

6 blinks no power, no help from philips or bestbuy. contact me about that lawsuit. has anyone else tried to fix it themselves/

Dennis of new port richey, FL October 16, 2009

DO NOT BUY PHILIPS! If i can get just one person to change their mind about a philiips purchase, hopefully i have done my job. I cant believe how many complaints I see regarding the same problem I have. I ahve a 50 in plasma 50pfp5332d/37 which from nearly day one woudl click when ever it felt like it. It would shut off in the middle of watchign it as well. Just at raondom times. It was such a pain to hang on the wall and everything i jsut edidnt want to be bothered with calling philips. We guess what, its been about 2 years and the damn thing jsut quite on me. Im getting those flashign red lights like thousands of you are claiming to have experienced as well. Ihave searched hi and lo throughout the interent to find out the problem and cant seem to really get anywhere. I have a panasonic 42 inch for 4 years now that is absolutely perfect, not a single problem ever. I am so mad i could spit about this 50 inch. THat was 2 grand i could have used for something much more worth the money, but instead i trusted in the philips brand and have already told everyone facebook how bad philips is. I wont rest until everyone i know and everyone i talk to knows how bad philips is.

JONI of WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, OH October 16, 2009

Our Phillips plasma 52" tv quit working after 15 months. We called Phillips, we were told that our warranty expired 3 months ago and they couldn't talk to us any longer and we needed to contact a TV repair person. We went online and got the same response from an online chat. The FAQ's online was of no help either.

Mazie of Sandy Hook, VA October 14, 2009

I purchased my set in 2006 - The tv started losing sound out within the first couple of months.. Made a service call to sears - tec came out and found nothing wrong.. TV continued to lose sound - did not matter if I was watching tv or using the DVD player. Called again when the tv starting to black completely out - tec came out again and said he could not find anything wrong.. since the issue did not happen all the time there was nothing he could do - I was told the next time it happens I could just unplugged the tv and plug it back in again to reset it.. So here it a couple of weeks before my service agreement is up the tv goes out again and unplugging it did not fix it..

So I called sears again but the did not have a tec to that would be able to come out before my service agreement ended - but assured me that I would be covered.. sure enough the tec came out and said I need a board replaced and he could order it but it's going to cost me because my tv was no longer covered.. I fought that battle with Sears and lost - they then told me to call Philip and they told me it was not covered but they can give me a name of a certified repair center in my area. Well the tv did come back on for a little while but the last couple of months - the top portion of the tv is snowed. - I am printing out all the complaints and bringing them to sears/walmart/sams and every place they sell philip brand and hand them out...

I paid 1600.00 dollars for this unit and was only able to really enjoy it for about a year.. This is so crazy.. I will leave instruction after I leave this world for not any of my children, children every purchase a philip anything or for that matter anything from Sears...

Joseph of Joliet, IL October 14, 2009

I retired on Nov.1, 2008. I received as a retirement gift, a Philips LCD big screen 42" TV. I sent the registration for the Warranty in plenty of time. Model#42PFL3403D/27. I received ownership on 10/15/08.(one year warranty). The company that shipped this to me was Power Merchandising,Philadelphia, Pa. It did not show a dollar amount because I did not purchase this TV but received it as a gift. Philips claim this invoice is invalid because there is no dollar amount.

On 7/14/2008, I called Philips that a vertical line was showing on the screen. They gave me a local company to call for the repair. This was not forthcoming and another company was given to me to call. Same result. The warranty is for a year. I argued with them over the next few months with no result. They were stalling till the warranty ran out.Philips claim the warranty ran out on 9/26/2009. That is a lie because I have a Philips correspondence to extend my warranty before its to late, that reads; my warranty runs out on 10/15/09. This proves I received ownership on 10/15/08. Since I called back in July, 3 months before the warranty was due to run out, Philips claim is a lie. The original order for this TV went through Diamond H:Personal Recognition co, FT. Worth, TX, order date 10/9/08.I talked to a Sondra who has tried to help but to no avail. Philips has deliberately dragged this out so they can claim by a lie, the warranty has run out.

Dennis of Lodi, CA October 12, 2009

I also have a Philips 42" plasma with the blinking red light and no power. Philips was absolutely no help! Their answer was call a local tv repair person. I have an appointment with The Geek Squad tommorow and will show them some of the info I have found on the internet about this common problem

Don of Oak Ridge, NC October 9, 2009

I Purchased a philips 42PF7320A/37 on 11-25-2005 at Circuit City.Last month horizonal lines displayed on the screen.I called Philips and went online and they were no help at all. I have bought philips since 1970,and had good service but this is my last. When i carried it to the shop they said Philips would not respond. This is a real problem. It repeats itself over and over on the complant site. I would like it if someone started a class action.

Terry of Suwanee, GA October 4, 2009

I just want to add to the growing list who have the "TV won't turn on - blinking red light problem" My tv is not in warranty (missed by 50 days). They could at least be helpful when you call. They wont even talk about this obviously wide spread defect. And it IS a defect when a $2000 product only last 3 years. Never again Philips

Rob of Windermere, FL October 3, 2009

After 2 years of ownership and multiple error codes and power down to reset the error codes the 42in Plasma TV finally died. Thanks for nothing PHILIPS!

Ricky of Fontana, CA October 3, 2009

In September 2007, I bought Philips 50 inch plasma from Costco and it started acting with TV turning on/off for 3 weeks then suddenly it shut down with TV Blinking 7 Red times! I thought it overheated protection. I waited for couple hours but it does not turn back on. So I found troubleshooting on Philips.com to unplug and turn on again. It does not work.

Now, I called tech support and customer services. They did not help but told me to call local repairman. Philips knows about Plasma TV problems but Philips is careless about consumers by pushing the junky product for profit. Philips Plasma TV problems are nationwide, Stop taking advantages on consumers. Fix or recall all the problems excepted Philips does not know how to fix the product because they bought the module parts from Samsung. Philips still needs to take responsible of the products. Add me in for a class action suit against Philips TV.

nancy of red bluff, CA October 3, 2009

im back again teck came out this morning and took away the tv..he says hes really confused! i said so are all the philips owners..walmart here was advertising philips "on sale" so i spent half the day at walmart in the electronics..any one looking at philips got a copy of the 410 complaints..how do you like that philips! angry customer!!!

Juno of Tustin, CA October 2, 2009

I purchased the plasma TV model 42PF9431D/37 in 2006 and starting having the "blinking red light" problem about two weeks ago. Unplugged it, plugged it back in, no problem for a week. Tried the same today but to no avail. Called Philips and as expected they could not offer any help b/c out of warranty. Couldn't even acknowledge when asked if this was a common problem or easily troubleshot. I decided to do my own research and am now shocked at how my very first search query "blinking red light-model no." opened a huge floodgate of information pertaining to this commonly shared problem. I will not waste an opportunity to share the business philosophy of Philips with any willing to listen.

Andres of Minneapolis, MN October 2, 2009

I have a 1.5 y/o philips TV 37pfl5322d, yesterday I unplugged it and after plugging it back it does not want to start. According to many postings in the internet is a common thing in the philips TV. I contacted philips and since I am oput of waranty they say I should go to a reapir shop. I cannot use my TV: worth at least 400 $

Peter of Toronto, ON October 1, 2009

Philip 47PFL7403D/F7 LCD TV broke down after only 2 months - 1 long 2 short red blinks. Philips Canada promptly referred me to a repair shop who took it in for repair. After 3 months and various parts replaced they gave up but to my surprise Philips then offered me a full cash refund of actually more than I had paid. Especially pleasing considering I purchased it from Dell.

Kevin of Liverpool, NY October 1, 2009

Since we bought our 52 inch Phillips plasma it used to turn on and off intermittently. I tried the down loadable update from Phillips technical sight and had to leave a message for a rep to call me back, after several attempts and who knows how many hours on the phone and trying to install the update i had given up. A couple months went by and the tv seemed to be better. Then it would randomly loose the sound but picture was fine. I had to unplug the tv and plug it back in to get sound back. This went on for a couple months sometimes it would happen 3 times a day or once a day. Then this problem seemed to get better after time. Now for the past week I would turn on the tv and there is sound and no picture for about one to two minutes then the picture would come on and it was fine. Now the tv will not turn on at all.... 4 blinking red lights. I will try the repair of replacing the capacitor and pray for the best. Looking at all the other complaints and failed attempts to get help from phillips for me to call is just a waste of time.

juan of miami, FL September 30, 2009

Philips 50 inch plasma TV BLINKING RED LITES! Today I replaced the mentioned capacitors on the 9/22 post, just make sure they are rated at 105C (hi temp). The TV now turns on and works perfectly. But, nevertheless I will NEVER AGAIN buy a product from Philips, and will take the time to visit the Electronics Dept. wherever they are being sold if I happen to be there, (Walmart) and let any prospective customer know what he's getting into. So, now you know.

Don't let any "genius" TV repairman rip you off selling you a whole new board or this or that, I solved it with an investment under $10 dollars for the two capacitors with shipment included. Hope this might be of help. Blatant insult and dishonest behavior from Philips that still continues selling an obviously defective product, for which they will take no responsibility, moral or monetary.

Ken of Sarasota, FL September 28, 2009

In July of 2007, we purchased a Philips 19" LCD TV model 19FPL5622D/37B. It lasted about 9 months before acting up with intermittent sound and picture. I had contacted CSR and since it was still under warranty, they sent me a replacement (refurbished) unit. Well, it is now 9 months with the replacement unit and IT is acting up in exactly the same manner. It started as a "popping" in the audio and the audio would eventually quit entirely. After turning the set off & on a few times it would settlt down and behave. It has now progressed to the unit randomly resetting itself (like an auto-restart) so often that it becomes unwatchable. Being an electronics guy, I removed the rear cover and examined the power supply board as suggested on here and all of the electrolytic caps look fine. I was expecting to see some of them bulging or burst. If both of these units failed in exactly the same way at exactly the same point in their lifespan, this has to be a design or component flaw from Philips yet they will not acknowledge it. Count me in on any class action suits that may follow.

nancy of red bluff, CA September 27, 2009

well the teck called he said sounds like a big problem and now they have to take the tv to the shop they dont understand the problem..hm maybe philips is sending bad parts now!!wouldnt surprise me....and your all right customer service is a joke!!

nancy of red bluff, CA September 25, 2009

another update on my philips 51 inch rear projection tv model number 51mp6100d/37. "piece of junk". sevice man did come out after first part went out within a month, when he got here i was told it had to have another part for another 150.00. it was ordered. teck came out on 9/4/09 to put in another part.

well this morning not even a month later doing the same thing. "wont shut off" .this being my third complaint in just a few months. with all the updates youd think philips tv;s would be off the market!

Jon of Pensacola, FL September 25, 2009

We bought a Philips 50" plasma in 12/05 for $5k and a couple of months ago we started getting the "blinking red light / no picture" problem that is well documented here and elsewhere. I called Philips support and was told by the rep, quite bluntly, that since we were out of warranty she could no longer stay on the call with me. I asked her if she could at least give me the name of an authorized repair shop and she said "no, I can only refer you to support.philips.com." and hung up. So $5000 for a television that worked intermittently for 3.5 years.

Philips Plasma TV problems. Shuts off between commercials. Philips Corp. could care less. Literally hundreds of screwed customers...may even be in the thousands nation wide. Does anybodyknow how to start a class action suit against Philips TV?

Purchased TV in Jan. 2009, broke within 3 months. PH replaced it with another broken TV. I returned the second one and was told to expect my check in 4 - 6 weeks. I called after 4 weeks for the status and was told to add another two weeks or more to the 4 -6 weeks. I spoke with CSR named Tyler that told me there is nothing they are going to do about it and basically he understood that Philips was ripping off customers and we had no recourse. I asked for a new reference # and was told one of the letters was Z as in Zulu.

I purchased a new Philips Plasma TV in January 2009 from Sams Club. Within six months the television no longer worked. I called Philips company to get my TV repaired and this is when the trouble began and I soon realized the company had no good intention on making a quality repair or a fair trade available. It started when Sams Club faxed them the receipt from the original purchase. One week after the fax confirmation they claimed they did not receive it. The second fax they claimed the receipt was not specific enough. They were clearly stalling. Two weeks later on the third fax they finally accepted there was a warranty involved and would send a repair person to fix it. The repair man came out one week later and said the TV needed all the internal components replaced. He further stated the only part he would not be replacing was the actual screen since it was in excellent condition (it should be since it was only 6 months old).

He ordered the parts, left the heavy TV dangling by two screws (extreme hazard with a toddler being around it), and told me he would be back in a week. Four days later I received a call from a Philips rep named Peter who said the parts were not going to be available for 22 days and the time frame was unacceptable so he was replacing the broken model with a new LCD. Two days after his first message, he called back and said he accidentally looked at the calendar wrong and the parts would be in on time. He further stated the LCD was no longer being offered. I felt very upset at this point since I was offered a replacement only to have the rep tell me he was mistaken and an LCD would not be given in exchange. Now another week passed and we still had no TV or a resolution. The same man came out once again with the parts and tried fixing the Plasma. He said the front panel was broke and the TV was unrepairable. He further replied that panels should last for 18 years and they usually are the last part in a television to go. Philips then agreed to send a NEW LCD comparable to the size of our broken Plasma. This sounded like great news since now we were going on at least 30 days of not having a TV. He said it would be a 52 or 55" LCD and we would have it in under 10 days. Then he said to call back on Monday (it was Thursday) to set up a delivery schedule.

I called back today to only be told that I would not be receiving a new 52 or 55" LCD, but I was going to be given a REFURBISHED 47" instead. I was crushed once again since I wanted something FAIR for the initial purchase of the 50" Plasma I bought back in January! I was also informed the delivery of the crap replacement would be at least 10 more days. I am so CRUSHED over this matter and the stress of having a major purchase being replaced with a refurbished model less in size is unbelievable. This company seems to have a large erroneous reputation of treating consumers unfairly. Replacing their faulty products with other malfunctioning items to wear out the warranty. The consumer is left with a huge purchase and nothing after a years time to show for it. Please look at http://www.consumeraffairs.com/home_electronics/philips.html . I am one of hundreds, possibly thousands of individuals who have had the same problem. Please help me get a fair resolution because without some intervention Philips will keep raking in consumer dollars, and cheating hard working families who buy their products.

I have the infmaous 4 red blinking lights and the 50" Philips Plasma TV won't turn on. It is well documented that this is very, very common but hey won't support it or even give advice on how to get it repaired. I have a television that is worthless due to a defect that the company is well aware of but won't even offer advice as to how to get it repaired. I was told to "look in the yellow pages"... Now I am going to have to shell out $400+++ dollarsto fix an issue that should be addressed by Philips!

I am writing this complaint for my parents. They have a Phillips LCD tv and they lost the picture and still had sound but, now they've lost that too. They purchased the tv in July 2008 and did't purchase the extended warranty. They called Phillips just trying to find a name of someone to repair the tv because they were unable to find anyone. Phillips told them they knew what the problem was but since it was out of warranty they couldn't help them. They asked could they please just give them some information on who could repair the tv and they said no. My parents said so you don't stand behind your product and they said they do. So, my parents asked again for someone that could repair the tv and they refused.

I am a recurring blogger "seeing red" with the infamous Philips blinking red light. A few days ago, I read Jeff's of Dexter Mi. blog (about 20-25 blogs from the top), and opened the back of my 50 inch Philips TV and sure enough there were 2 capacitors in the lower center area of the board that will be facing you as soon as you remove the back panel. These are 3300 microfarad electrolytic capacitors rated at 10 volts. They both had the top surface bulging, meaning they are "fried". Today, as suggested by Jeff, ordered new replacements rated @ 25volts, at a cost of $1.84 cents each.As soon as I receive them Wednesday I intend to install them. I am sure that will take care of the problem, because the guy at the electronics shop told me those were used in TV's power supply board. Will let you know before the week is over how it went.

Like everyone else, I received the "Red Light" special. 6 fast red blinking lights, then a couple slow. TV only 2 years old. Philips is horrible will not assist. Count me in the class action lawsuit

Juan of Miami, FL September 20, 2009

Had this TV just over 2 years, and got the same sympton of the hundreds exposed here.( Philips red light district )which in effect means your bank account is going to be in the red after they take your money. They will not even bother to TRY to give you a solution. Their customary answer in two occasions that I called was : Sorry its out of warranty. So they expect me to get lost and don't bother them, it was nice to rip you off of $3000 +

Screen started to go black every now and then randomly while still being able to hear audio. The screen would appear in a few minutes eventually. Today, I turned the TV on and audio worked but not screen...completely black. So I called a TV repair man, he is coming out tonight to look at the TV and says he will likely only be able to fix it in the next week (waiting for parts). I am shocked to see these posts and even more surprised to hear Philips has not issued a factory recall. One thing is for certain, I will never buy a Philips product again. The customer service, or there lack of, is shocking that such a large brand is not held responsible to selling a product that appears to lack common functionality. You don't hear of this issue with other brands like Sony, Samsung, etc...

Troy of Philadelphia, PA September 18, 2009

I purchased a Phillips 42" TV in May 2005. By June 2005 it have been recalled. I pleaded with Phillips to give me a new TV since I had paid $3000 for it. I tried for a month to get a new tv but they would not budge. I finally allowed them to replace the ambilights. After they replaced them the sound was hollow and distorted. Then a year later the picture started to go out randomly. Software updates seemed to work. But I needed an update every few months. Now the picture goes out every 5 minutes. Soft ware updates don't work. They replaced the ambilight but they won't do anyting else to help out.

50 inch Philips plasma tv went bad, lust like many, many other consumers like me, no service, no parts available, need results from outside source besides Philips. They produced a bad product a should stand by it. 6 red blinks-3 red blinks.

Jennifer of Chicago, IL September 16, 2009

We purchased a 42' plasma tv model 42MF231D/37 from Sears. At 2 years old, we got red lines one day, the next day no picture at all, only audio. Customer service at Philips told us to turn off the tv. As that did not work, they told us to contact a local service person. We paid $130 for it to be looked at and another $450 for parts. Once the $130 was a sunk cost, we were hopeful that the additional $450 for a new y-buffer would solve our problems.

We are awaiting it back now, so I'm unable to report if it was successful and for how long. Many other reputable companies would be embarassed by such a terrible product, especially for a high-end product.

My dad has a Philips-Magnavox 50" and it had the same problem the red blinking light that I'm reading about on most of the Tv's 42" 47" 50" 60". They have the same circuit board and it can be fixed and with the right parts so it dont just happen again and again and again in 1 to 3 yrs like the new ones do.

Filed a claim on my tv, talked to 4 differant people, they each said a differant department will call on my repairs on the tv, yet nothing, no calls no repairs on my set, no return on my 69.99 i paid for the warranty. i want my set fixed, or my money retured. i feel they have been avoiding the issue of my tv . i cant afford to buy a new set, thats why i took out coverage on it.im almost 60 years old,and i cant work to earn money for a new set.

Gaye of Rapid City, SD September 14, 2009

The remote quit working along with the picture in picture after about 2 years. I called to buy a new remote, but they were not available any longer. The aftermarket ones don't work for this TV PIP. The TV has been shutting itself off and on occasionally for years. I have adjusted the convergence often until this winter it wouldn't work. Philips said call a repair guy because the closest one they had was 300 miles away.

I didn't buy an extended warrenty because when I read it, I didn't think it would cover anything that would likely go wrong with the TV. New tubes cost about $400.00. Now The TV is shutting itself off right away and flashing the red powerbutton light 8 times until I unplug it. From what I read, it will be another $400.00 to $500.00 fix that sounds temporary after reading here. These 2 fixes could pay for a new TV!

We bought the "best new latest greatest" TV when we upgraded from our 27 inch Sharp (it worked fine). I think it was in 2002 that we payed about $3000.00 for the Philips 60WP9363 flat screen TV. We paid that high price because we had faith that we were buying a product of high quality from an established, reliable, high quality, brand name, company. We expected a Philips product would last for a couple decades. Since the company was well established, we thought that at the very least the company would be around for a long time making the replacement parts for repairs we may need along the way. We thought Philips would come out with an even better set and we would be returning customers, passing the old set down to the kids and buying one or two more!

I feel like such a fool because the reality has been the lack of reliability, customer service, repair service or even parts, We are working class people and we paid lots of good money for that peace of mind when we could have gotten something else a lot cheaper. So I guess that is why I'm so angry about this TV.

Our Philips Plasma TV model no. 42PF7220A/37 broke down. No picture no sound. Purchased in Feb. 2006 at Costco. Philips customer service was no help. They said we had to get a service tech to take a look at the set. Given the fact that Philips is no longer making Plasma TV's and that the web is full of complaints about their Plasma TV's, I want to add my name to the list of very dissatisfied customers.

Richard of Gold Canyon, AZ September 12, 2009

I purchased a new Philips 50 inch plasma television, model 50pf9731d/37, serial #AG 1B0622 100117, from an on-line retailer called Plasma BAY.com. Purchase price was $2,431.50 plus $255.75 for shipping. I received the unit on December 13, 2006, and registered the purchase with Philips. They sent me an application for an additional 2-years warranty for $699.95. I opted not to to purchase the extended warranty because they are such a bad value and I fully expected this television to last for at least 10 years. I was living in Elko, Nevada at the time. In April, 2007, I changed jobs and relocated to Gold Canyon, Arizone. We were moved by professional movers. The television was packed in a special box with tilt indicators and was received with no indication of mishandling. The unit has worked mostly trouble-free since, except for the screen going pink and purple occasionally, but was not often enough to be a major concern.

Last week, on September 9, 2009, when the tv was turned on the for the first time in the morning, it started to come on normally, the picture appeared for a split-second, then went black. The green power indicator on the front started blinking red in a definite pattern, and the only way I could get the picture back was to un-plug th eunit for a minute or two. Now this is the norm every morning. Sometimes I have to un-plug it two times to get it to re-set. The owner's manual provided no mention of this problem, so I went to the Philips' web-site indicated in the manual, but could find no support there, so I called the number listed, but it's an automated voice which asks a series of questions, which includes "is the product still under warranty". When th eanswer is no, the voice tells you tha there is no live technician available, then refers you to the above-mentioned web-site. So I followed the link to contact Philips via e-mail. I sent a short explanation of the issue, and asked for some information of what the red blinking light meant, figuring they could tell me what th esequence was telling me, so maybe we could fix th eproblem with out a lot of hassle. I received the reply tha t, since I had no remaining or extended warranty, that I should look in the yellow pages under "television repair". Since then, I 've been doing on-line research, which led me to this site, where I discovered that this is a very common problem with Philips' plasma tv's and there has been no help from Pilips. I just want to add my name to the list of people who will never purchase a Philips product again.

Have a 50inch Phillips Plasma TV bought it over 2 years ago. Bottom half goes black for about 30 seconds to a minute. In the past day it's been getting worst as it happens every 10 minutes. I'm now just waiting for the blinking everyone is talking about. A lot of people with the same problem.

This is really to the lawyers that review the complains on this website. With all these complains why have no one file a Class Action against Phillips. In this economy a lot of people can not afford to lose over $1000+. What else do we need for any lawyer to hear our complains and help us all. I think we are all willing to help to see Phillips pay for their dishonesty.

frank of rockford, IL September 10, 2009

We have a problem with our 42PF9630A/37 42" philips plasma. After about three years, the top half of the screen would appear digitized/colorful.(see picture)... if we tapped on the top of the TV, it would go away for a while. This went on for a couple of months, then it also started happening on the bottom of the screen. One day, the TV would not start, only seven red light blinks. We loved our TV, the picture quality was great and the ambilight looked beautiful, but needless to say we are very disappointed. I called customer service, but they were no help. He said that they have never heard of the problem. When I told him that I found many people with the same problem on the web, he then said that a panel may have to be replaced. He tried to locate a service center, however the closest one was in Wisconsin, about 80 miles away (we're in Illinois). This can be a $500- $800 repair, which unfortunately would not be worth it... this is a very sad waste of resources. Again, we loved this TV, but now we are shopping for a new TV. I'd like to say we would buy Phillips, but we are uneasy about that... also, it looks like all the parts in the TV were Samsung. I doubt we would be buying one of those either. I realize that plasma's were still relatively new technology when we purchased it 3-1/2 years ago at Circuit City, however it is sad that Philips will not stand behind this design flaw

Joe of Dunstable, MA September 9, 2009

On 01/27/08 we purchased a new 42" Philips LCD TV model #42PFL7422D/37 at BJ's for $1200. We were happy with the picture quality and had read good reviews online. How I wish I had seen this site before then!

On 07/31/09, turned it on and there was sound but screen completely black. Called Philips cust serv # in my manual and was told if I couldn't even get the menu to appear onscreen (I couldn't), he couldn't help me. Since it was out of warranty and no extended warranty purchased at BJ's I could call anyone I wanted and pay out of pocket. Used 2 repair options, small co. couldn't tell us what it was after keeping it a week; we carted it there and back.

Large co. came to home and over 4 weeks time, tried to replace power supply, then main board. I was told today, 09/09/09, that it is the TV panel itself (the screen)and would cost more to replace than buying a new tv. Called Philips again to talk to someone about their lousy product. Told automated voice it was over 1yr/no ext warr and she told me there was no live tech to talk to and goodbye then hung up...some customer service. Called again and had to lie about purchase date to automated chick just so I could get a live tech.

This live tech told me she couldn't help me and "sorry for the inconvenience". I asked how to contact main headquarters and she gave me PO Box, Marietta, GA 30006 - they will supposedly reply to my letter. Their website conveniently gives no other options that I can see to talk to or email someone and complain about this.

In searching web to find more info, came upon this website and am astounded at the number of issues posted here! A blinking red light was mentioned many times but since there are 58 pages of complaints, I cannot read them all to find out exactly what it is. I do have a series of blinking red lights where the blue power light used to be - is this the same as everyone else?

I feel thoroughly ripped off and can't afford to buy another TV right now. We paid $1200 for this product and it lasted 1 1/2 years! I will complain to all the local network consumer reporters, the MA Atty Gen and the GA Atty Gen as well as BJ's. I will post as many rotten reviews as I can with online retailers who sell Philips products. I urge everyone to take the time to make similar contacts in their area. I will also write a letter to Philips/Magnavox but feel that will fall on deaf ears, if it is considered or read at all. I feel they owe me some restitution for their shabby product, 1 yr warranty or not!

I bought 2 flat screen tvs a 50in and a 42in about two months out of warranty the 42in went dead with "the blinking red light of death" than two months later the same thing happend to the 50in. I called philips and they said that they do nothing for out of warranty pouduct, and to try their web site because he sees some info on there that might help. I asked him what the info was and he said that he could help me no further because my tv was out of warranty

37" Philips LCD TV failed twice within 7 months. Red light blinks 5 times. Philips help was not good. First the said they would cover parts then went back on their word the next day.

Jeff of Dexter, MI August 29, 2009

There's an easy, cheap fix to the Philips Blinking Red Light (7 flashes) problem that so many people have described here. We purchashed the Philips 42 inch plasma TV, Model 42PF9431D/37, at Costco in Nov. 2006 and the Flashing Red light problem began August 2009. Initially unplugging the TV for a short while and then plugging it back in addressed the problem, but that solution was very short-lived.

Philips technical support was not at all helpful. They gave us the number of a local TV repair shop who informed us that it would cost $200 - $500 to fix. When I saw the same problem described over and over again on this website I figured the problem must have a common source. It turns out there is a simple answer and it is a shame that Philips won't acknowledge the problem.

After searching around on the Internet I found a couple of postings on some "geek" sites that all offered the same solution to the problem. Let me say that I am electronically challanged and typically I am not able to fix anything electrical, but this fix was simple even for me (my 9 year old son was a tremendous help).

The problem according to these "experts" is due to poor design and under-engineering. There are two low voltage capacitors that are the culprits for this problem. If you remove the back of the TV (the most difficult part of the repair, because there are about 50 screws to be removed), you will find a large circuit board in the center. You will see many coffee can shaped parts with flat silver tops, these are capacitors. The two problem capacitors will have raised up or bubbled tops (they should be flat). You'll probably find the two blown capacitors adjacent to each other and located at the bottom center of the circuit board. Ours were 3300 uf 10 volt and were replaced with 3300 25 volt, per recommendation of the experts. You'll have to take out the circuit board which requires the removal of screws and a few connector cables.

You'll have to take the circuit board to a repair shop that will solder the old capacitors off for you and then solder on the new ones. Finding a TV repair service that is willing to do this might be the trickiest part. I was able to find a shop easily, but they were reluctant to do so at first. The guy that repaired it said they weren't authorized to repair individual parts on the circuit board and that typically they would replace the whole board. He said he couldn't guarantee that simply replacing the capacitors would work. I assured him that I had nothing to lose, I was about to scrap the TV anyway, and that if it did not work I would not hold them liable. He made the repair and charged me $35, I gave him an extra $10 for his trouble (his boss would not have approved). The whole repair took him 10 minutes.

I brought the circuit board home and my son and I reassembled the TV in about half-an-hour. The TV is working like a charm. I'm submitting this post to this website with hopes that it will save others the hundreds of dollars that I saved with this simple fix.

melinda of Douglas Park, Australia August 29, 2009

We purchased a 42" LCD on 1/6/08, and about 3 months ago i turned the tv on and their was sound and back lights but nothing on the screen it was black. I rang to get it fixed they took our tv for a week. when they brought it back i asked if it would happen again and they said that it is fixed now. They delivered it back to us and just as they were leaving it went again so then they fixed it in our house.

Now just over a month later its gone again. When i rang the first time i rang Phillips to complain and the guy was so rude he actually got cranky with me, and did not want to help one bit. I can not believe a product can be so faulty when we falked out two and a half thousand and get a dud. I really think they need to do a recall on all phillips tv cause no one should have to go threw this. We thought we were doing a good thing spending a lot of money on a tv but all we have had is a headache.

IPurchased new 52 inch lcd tv on May 2 2009, tv stopped working in july o9. I called Phillips to talk with their tech support( what a joke), and after 2 weeks finally got a repair man to look at it. I was told that the part that was bad can not be gotten by phillips because it was made in china.

After many calls to Phillips they told me that I would have to box the tv and ship it back to them at my cost, and they would send me a refurbished model. Can you believe that? Pay 2 grand for a tv that last 2 months then goes on the blink then they want you to pay to ship it back to them and they will send you a refurbed model.

I have owned 3 widescreens in my life and i promise you that i will never own another Phillips product in my entire life. No one in my family or friends will buy one and when i meet someone the first topic of conversation will be how [bad] Phillips tvs are.

Purchased a 50" Phillips plasma tv 2 years ago. About a month ago I turn on the tv and it had NO picture. It sound, but nothing else. I dropped it off at the only Phillips repair shop in town. After three weeks of no news, I recieve a call telling me that phillips doesn't sell the individual Buss bars that I need for the repair. So they need to by the entire board for $1300. I only payed $1400 for the tv brand new. Not sure where to go from here??

Yu, of Seatac, WA August 24, 2009

I own a Phillips 50inch plasma w/ ambiance light just a little over a year. I too, share the same issues like most off you here. My tv would go blank for 10 to 15 second and back on. Recently, I got the blinking red light. To get it back to work; I reset the breaker swith in the garage because I can't reach behind the tv to unplug it. So now, just got to wait till it doesn't work any more like most of you here.

It seems like Phillips doesn't care about this ongoing issues that they been having or take appropriate steps to correct or inhance it's product. I am so disapointed with Phillips. Never again will I have anything to do with their product. One last thing, I got another Phillips to remind me every morning.....a shaver. Can't wait for this piece of crap to go too.

Doug of Austin, TX August 23, 2009

Well, I guess I am the latest casualty in the Philips Red Light saga. I bought my 50PF9630A/37 just at three years ago and started getting the 6/3 red binking light about 2 weeks ago. For the first week and a half, unplugging it until the lisght stopped and plugging it back in allowed me to keep watching. As of yesterday...nothing...nada...zilch. I did not waste my time with Philip's tech support since over 300 people in this forum have had no luck dealing with them. I now, too, will never again buy another Philips product.

I purchased a 47 inch Philips LCD TV last year and a month before the warranty was up, a green line started to appear on the screen from top to bottom. I called Philips and they sent me a replacement but the replacement was worse. The speakers would give off this horrendous static noise while watching TV and you would never know when it would happen.

Changing the channel or input would temporarily stop the noise but it would come back on again all through the day. I called Philips back and they said they would replace the replacement. A week goes by. I call back on the status. they canceled the order and NEVER TOLD ME! Apparently they re-ordered the replacement but I don't believe them and I am NOT even treated as a priority. PLEASE HELP!

Dianne of Philadelphia, PA August 21, 2009

We purchased this TV back in August 2006......we experienced the TV going off and on for a long time when one day the Tv shut off and the 7 red blinking lights started. This was in March 2009, in our experience we had an extended warranty and between the warranty group and the repair company the Tv was fixed with only a minor delay.

Then on August 14, 2009 I was watching TV....a show that I had on DVR and my phone rang so I paused the show. Within a few minutes there was a VERY loud humming noise coming from the TV. When I looked over it looked as though some kind of liquid was coming down the center of the TV. I really thought from the loud humming that the TV was going to blow up. I turned off the TV and that is when I noticed what look like a crack down the center of the TV. When I touched the screen it was not a crack on the outside but on the inside screen.

With the TV still under warranty I called the warranty company and submitted a claim. I told her and another girl and the the reapir shop all the samething.......no one ever said anything that would have led me to know what they all decided happen to the TV. We are now being told that I am a liar and that the TV suffered some kind of impact and that it is not covered under the warranty!

We are trying to find anyone that has had a similar experience. I am a big girl now and if I did something to my TV I would just say that I did. How can they come to this conclusion without even looking inside the TV?

I purchased the Philips HTS6500 DVD Home Theater System. It worked fine for a while. I went to put a DVD in about two months ago, and the display just kept going back and forth between "close" and "eject" and the DVD would not play. Also, none of the buttons on the front panel worked, only the volume control knob. There have been many other similar complaints that I have come across while searching for a solution to this problem. I feel that there should be a recall so that the product will be fixed free of charge or replaced with a new similar product.

I purchased a 37" phillips LCD tv in 2007 and i have had it in for repair several time and now again, it will not turn on and the green power light just flashes. My company buys phillips for our new stores and I can assure you they will get a copy of this email and i will convince them to change brands. This tv is a joke.

My husband purchased a Philips 42" plazma tv, Model #42PF9631d/37, in 2006 from Sears. He purchased a warranty for it and every year when the warranty is about to expire the tv starts to melfunction. Last week Sears called to inform us that the warranty was about to expire and my husband declined to renew it. Lo and behold this week it started to not turn on. The power indicator light would turn red after trying to turn it on and blink several times. It will also turn itself off and back on when watching it. I have noticed several people on this site with the exact same problems. This warranty crap is such a SCAM! I can't believe that people haven't filed a class action lawsuit against this worthless company!

Purchased 50 inch plasma tv dec 2006. Stopped powering up Aug 2009...Purchase price about 1,700.00 What a waste, I need a bail out too from PHILLIPS...they are useless. Their products are worthless as well. They don't last. It is costing 135.00 just to have a repairman come look at it. GOD only knows what it will cost to repair...probably too much than I am will to invest...so it will go to the junk yard...complements of PHILLIPS

Plasma TV, Model No. 42PF7220A, Serial #YA1A0614001641. Manufactured April 2006.Purchased May 2006. Service Request #85VT1, TV has stopped working Red power light flashes 7 times witch is a power failure code. Complaints of this same problem are posted all over the web AV forums ( Philips TV 7 Blinking red lights). Most consumers are having the problem within the second to third year of ownership. Repairing of this problem will cost over $600.00. Philips will not help consumers with this obvious design/ engineering problem. I have contacted Philips customer support with no help.

Angela of Mechanicsille, VA August 9, 2009

The television we purchased in late 2006, a 50 inch Philips plasma television has ceased working. I called the customer technical support center four times in two days to remedy the problem and it created another problem which they technical support center cannot correct. The television was indicating an upgarade was needed to correct the issue. At the advice of the Philips support personnel, I purchased a USB stick, formatted it myself, downloaded the upgrade from their web site and installed it on the television. According to the information on the upgrade it should have corrected the problem.

The third support center tech was not very knowledgeable and my husband and I were able to get the television on and working. The following morning, we went to turn the television on and nothing happened. When I called the technical support center again, I was told there was nothing else they could do except provide a phone number to an authorized Philips dealer/repair person in our state. This television cost over $2000.00 a little over two years ago and it apprears will cost us even more. Does any one stand behind their products anymore?

Alison of Midland, MI August 9, 2009

We purchased a Philips 50" plasma with ambilight, Model #50PF9631D/37 from Circuit City in Saginaw, MI in Feb. '07. Maybe a year after we got it it started turning on and off by itself. A year and a half after having it these things starting happening: The screen would go black, the screen would go pink with vertical banding lines, the top half of the screen would go black or the top half would have banding lines. Now the past 8 months occasionally we'd turn it on and it would click, the green light would come on and then it would start flashing red and there would be no picture or sound. It used to be fixed by resetting the tv but today that won't work. We've done it a dozen times and it won't stay on now.

i purchased a philips 51 inch rear projection television,model#51mp6100d/37 in oct,05,after 1 year the tv wouldnt shut off.we had to unplug it every night.i called the number on the service manual i received wqhen i purchased the tv but the number wouldnt go threw..after a few months of trying that number it finnally went threw when customer support answered i told them about the problem with my tv,they continually told me "nothing they could do about it" i kept calling the number until i got a teck that would help me..i finnally got a number for repair service.i called them made an apt.they came out I was told the tv needed a new computer and the teck said this never happens and is very rare..I told him to order the computer and when all done the bill was $537.48.

i continued to call customer support as i felt the tv was a problem to start with but not much help from them..now its a month later and the tv is doing the same thing "wont shut off again" i finally got an email from customer support for philpis but email was undeliverable.then i was told to try web site and click on other to type a complaint to philips,no such web site.i again called customer support to get help from them.thats a joke.so now again im on the phone with tv repair.and will cost me more money out of pocket.philips is the worst set ive ever owned this company should be out of buissness.....

The Green light comes on for the T.V but it fails to come on. Phone philips many times only to be told " to bad for you" take it to a repair shop. This is the second time with this very same problem in 14 months. PEOPLE DON'T PAY 2000 DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING THAT BREAKS EVERY 7 MONTHS

Ivan of miami, FL July 31, 2009

Purchased a Philips 42" Plasma about 2 years ago & all of a sudden it goes black & now the dreaded blinkin red light which I've been reading about has come on. Really can't believe Philips has been putting out such an defective product. I imagined the it would not last forever, but I thought that it would at least last 5-6 years. In this economy we really can't be spending that much money for something that will only last us a few short years. There must be something we can do.

JP of st. louis, MO July 28, 2009

I bought a 42 inch phillips plasma tv number 42pf7320A/37 a little over 3 years ago. It stated to have a red color across the top half of the tv a month ago. I thought this was from our dish...it was not. Today, the picture just went out. I have sound, but no picture. The number for phillips goes to a call center and they do nothing....to bad. I told them there were thousands of complaints for the same issue on their plasmas...did not care. They told me to call a service center. I said that they have a bad product and they did not care.

Michele of Philadelphia, PA July 28, 2009

I purchased a 60 inch Philips "DLP" Projection HDTV about 2 years ago at Sams Club and I now have the same story of the "Flashing Power" button and no picture. The tv never shuts off or should I said power down to reset itself. I unplug it for hours, even days with no prevail (as instructed on Philips support website).

Whether these products are covered under warranty or not Philips should be concerned that so many people with varies products are arriving at the same conflicting situation. Philips' needs to take ownership of these faulty products and issue a recall and have them fixed. Instead, of becoming a money warlord preying on the consumers who once support their business. I am now out of a tv and work with no money to repair or replace my tv.

joseph of New York, NY July 26, 2009

I have owned a Philips Ambilight Plasma (42PF9631D/37) for under 3 years, with no cable and no video games attached. Average use was one movie per month (it was in my 2nd home). Now I have the classic 7 red blinking lights and no support from Philips.

Victor of San Juan, Puerto Rico July 25, 2009

I have a 50" Philips Plasma Ambilight that stopped working just 2 yrs after I purchased it. It does not power up and all I get is a blinking red light (7 times). Called Customer service to no avail. This is outrageous. We paid $3,000 for this piece of junk and have no one around to fix it - whether or not it is practical this bad experience... I read on the Internet that there is a lot of people with the same problem. It is time that Philips hears our complaints and does something about it. I am certain that this could become a recall if we join forces...

Taryn of Springfield, MA July 24, 2009

We purchased a 50" Philips Plasma with Ambilight about 2 years ago. For the past 6 months the tv would shut off for about 20-30 seconds randomly. We thought it was the cable connection and had comcast here every other week trying to fix the problem. About 1 month ago upon turning on the tv and seeing the green light, it would then turn to red and flash about 5-7 times. Stop for about 5 seconds and then flash again. We would unplug the tv and re plug it back in.

As of today the tv WILL NOT go back on. So I decided to look on line and noticed that we are not the only consumers out there with the same problem. When this first started happening we called Philips they advised us to upgrade the tv's software. So we went through all of there instructions and we were able to download the software to the tv. This upgrade did absoulutely nothing. We called the service department back in which they advised we would have to contact a tv repair shop in our area to have them come and fix it. I will never buy from Philips again.

Manoj of W. Chester, PA July 23, 2009

The Philips Plasma 42 Inch TV 42PF7320A/37 now displays red blinking lights/pixels on the display. There is image on the screen fully overlapped with these lights. Seems like many people have the same issue with this Model. Philips CS is of no use.

All I have is Phillip and Magnovox. I will never buy again!!! TV is on two years old..My daughter APEX has lasted longer then this one so I had to bowwor it.

Joe of New Milford, NJ July 20, 2009

Purchased 50" Phillips Plasma TV from BJs. TV is two years old and I now have problem with blinking lights as everyone else has described. My tv wont go back on even when unplugged. I cannot believe PHILLIPS is not supporting this problem and leaving all these customers hung out to dry. This is an expensive purchase and the manufacturer needs to be held accountable. If this was an issue with automobiles, there would be a remedy.

David of La Jolla, CA July 20, 2009

I have a Philips HD TV (Model #42PF7320A/37). For the past several months, once the TV has warmed up (approx 90 mins), the lower half of the screen suddenly goes black and will remain that way or alternate occasionally with a white lower screen with flashing, colored vertical lines. The upper half of the screen remains perfect with no distortion. This problem occurs regardless of the input (TIVO, cable, or DVD player.) I have called Philips to no avail.

Heriberto of Caguas, Puerto Rico July 17, 2009

On 29 july 2006 i purchased a 37" Philips lcd HDTV model 37PF9431D/37. Around june 08 the unit started to shut of by itself and be back on around 20 to 30 seconds later. This would happen 4 or 5 times a day. Since i had and extended warranty the tv was serviced by a local tv repair shop and was returned to me 3 weeks later, and the service performed was "soldered fuse on power supply". I must also mention the fact that around march 08,Philips send me a letter offering to extend their coverage for the following year and like in the previous year i could pay in 3 payments of $46.65 each. On 21mar08 i mailed my first check.

They did not send the bill for the 2nd or the 3rd payment like they did the previous year and admit that i forgot about the payments until i realized that the expiration date of my warranty was 29jul08. When i called about this they informed me that Philips no longer provied extended coverage to Puerto Rico. The tv kept acting the same way and after many calls to them agreed to have the same tv repair shop check it again, it was picked up on 22aug08 and returned to me on 17sep08 and according to them nothing wrong with the unit. It kept working with its flaws but working until the morning of the 15jul09. I turned it on and those famous red blinking lights come on, but no video or sound. It is dead!

I should also add that after many calls i got my money of my first payment to my extended coverage that was to be valid until 29jul09.

Purchased set from Sam's Club 7/20/07. Called Phillips and told out of Warranty. Model # 42pf5321d/37 serial #ya1a0612020201 You turn the set on green light comes on and then you get 4 blinking red light and it stops and then blinks 4 more time and continues to repeat. Phillip says it is not their problem. I advised the number of complains from people on line. Phillips says they know nothing of the problem. This looks like a class action because they are using poor quality parts

Fabiola of Forest Hills, NY July 15, 2009

I bought a 42" Plasma TV in 2006. Now there is a big, thick black vertical line going down the left side of the T.V. impeding me from watching properly.

John of easton, PA July 10, 2009

The Red Light Special! I think this is what Philips should call their Plasma TV's. Looking at all the people with the same problem, it strikes me as more than a cooincidence that all these TV's start having the same problem between 2 years and 2 1/2 years. Tried the software update, but since i don't get a picture, cant check idf the upgrade worked. My TV is still broken. Like another Philips customer, I will no longer even buy a lightbulb from them!

Kitty of Pensacola, FL July 10, 2009

This is the latest of several problems we have had with this 42" plasma tv from Philips. The first few times were all concerning needing to download new firmware constantly. Today we got a fuzzy orange bar over the bottom portion of the set and it turned itself off after about 30 seconds.

There has not been any kind of response from the set since. I contact the company only to be told it was out of waranty and to call a repairman. Of course the closest one if 50 miles away and our expense. We are experiencing the wonderful seven blinking red lights on the front of the set and the only way to stop them is to unplug the tv.

Nathan of Ballwin, MO July 10, 2009

I also have been hit by the flashing red light. I bought a 50" plasma from best buy in July of 2006 and had no problems with it till a few weeks ago. For a few days I could unplug the tv and plug it back in but now it won't even turn on.

I sent an email to Phillips and they said they weren't told what the error codes were. I was just wanting to know what to expect as far as getting it repaired as I did not get an extended warranty. I can get a local TV repair to give me a quote for $70. I just don't want to spend money on something that will break in another 2.5-3 years.

It appears that everyone is having the same problem around the same time. I would hope that perhaps a class action suit could be brought about. Although I know in the end all we would get is a certificate good towards purchasing a new tv, which is useless if it's another phillips with the same issue.

Andrea of virginia beach, VA July 8, 2009

I bought a 50" Plasma tv april of 2007. In January we began to have problems where the tv cut itself off. I've called Philips who told me since it is out of warranty it's not their problem. i was advised by their customer service dept to contact an authorized repair facility.

I called Maurice Tv/Electronics per Philips Instructions. I was adv that it was a manufacturers problem. they had seen several of these model tvs and that the circuit boards have gone bad and it is not able to be fixed b/c the parts are not available.

I called back to Philips who transferred the issue to their Customer Relations Dept who stated that becuase it is out of warranty it is not their problem. After doing some research on the product I uncovered the fact that the whole series of this type of tv is defective and that Philips is refusing to refund any money nor replace the item.

Al of Metamora, MI July 7, 2009

Won't start. Blinking red lights. Several plugins and unplugs to get it to start. Very expensive. Harly used. Extremely angry. Purchased oct 14 2006.

Jennifer of Haverhill, MA July 3, 2009

The tv is about 3 years old. I have the same problem that I have seen listed by many other owners of the same television. Just stopped working one day...a red light flashes 6 times or so., pauses for a moment, and then repeats continuously. This was a very expensive tv... what is being done about these claims???

Michael of Roy, WA July 2, 2009

I bought a Philips HD 42" (model – 42PF7320A/37), plasma in August of 2006. After about a year, randomly the top half of the screen would turn blank out and look like someone through yellow and red paint on it from the inside but the bottom half of the screen looked clear and great. This would happen for about 15 minutes and then it would stop and go away for a day or two.

After talking with the satellite company on many occasions they thought it was my satellite boxes because they were so old and they said they had heard of that due to the closed caption broadcasting and finally talked me into upgrading. So I upgraded my Satellite to HD so I could take advantage of the HD TV (which wasnt explained to me when I bought the TV), That lasted for about a month with no issues and then the top half problem started again. I called the satellite folks and they told me that it is the TV and has nothing to do with the Satellite.

Now, last night I am watching TV and all of a sudden the TV turns itself off and I see the power light turn red and flash 7 times in a row, then it pauses, and then repeats. I unplugged it for about 10 minutes and plugged it back in and heard a 1 second moment of sound like it was going to start and then it went to the red light flashing 7 times.

I called Philips support and when I told her what model it was, first she started laughing, then walked me through gathering all the info, then asked me to go power it off. I had to explain to her that it wont turn on, so she got a little rude with me and said "Just unplug it from the wall", I then informed her it had been unplugged since last night, now what? then she started talking real low and soft and when I told her I couldn’t hear her she started yelling in the phone.

Needless to say I am not happy at this point but she walks me through plugging the TV back in and immediately pressing the power button and holding it for 10 seconds and letting go. Same response, 1 second of sound and then it shuts off and goes to the red blinking led lights. That’s when she tells me while giggling, "Well your obviously out of warranty, and there is nothing we can do about it, its a known issue, you need internal servicing so will need to call someone at your own expense to fix it." and gave me a number to a service company close by to call.

I did call Sears (where I purchased it), as well but since I didn't get an extended service warranty they will not help me, but they had heard of the issue.

CHAD.DAVIS of CLOVIS, NM June 29, 2009

Bought a 50" Phillips Plasma TV, after 6 months the screen went black. Contacted customer service and they advised there was only one repair man in the area about 30 miles away from where I lived. He showed up in a rusty beat up old Dodge van to pick up the TV. After about 4 months and numerous calls to customer service they finally agreed to send me another TV. The TV they sent me was a used repaired model that matched the one I had. Since there is only a one year warranty on the TV I asked customer service if the warranty had been extended and they politely advised," no," it would not be extended.

I informed customer service that I had only had the TV for 6 months and they had it for 4 months. That only left me a couple of months warranty on the used/repaired TV they were sending me. Customer service seemed less than interested in my concern. I finally received the TV and it worked for 3 months and then started giving me problems. The TV is dead in the water now and I have no warranty left and from what aI hear probably no hope of getting it repaired or replaced. Very frustrated with Phillips and their products I will never by another phillips product. In addition to the TV the DVD/ surround sound system I had bought when I purchased the TV also went out about 5 months after purchase! both phillips products have failed on me and it would appear I am not hte only one who has had these problems with company.

I would hope that a class action suit is filed against the company but I feel I am just out the money and will have to consider it a learning experience that Phillips products are definately a waste of money.

I have a Magnavox 32" digital widescreen LCD HDTV w/ATSC/QAM tuner purchased 12/16/06 from Sears. Six weeks ago while watching TV there was a popping sound in the front of the set near the green power on/off switch. It has not had power since then. The tech installed supply power and BSS boards - discovered to be rebuilt like original boards in my new TV. TV still does not power up. Panel board supposedly on order. My extended warranty indicates new replacement TV when original sales amount is reached for parts/labor ($800). My original Magnavox was 13 years old when I gave it to charity - no replacement parts or service calls. Problems with this set after only 2-1/2 years! My 32" was sold as new, not rebuilt

About a month in a half to 2 months a ago I went out a bought the 19pfl3504d/f7 model tv and noticed that it was making loud buzzing noise when turned off. I called up to customer servicer because I wan't to fimilar with this product and was told that I needed a software update for the tv. I really thought that was ridiculous since I had just bought the tv but I went ahead and did. Afterward the stopped making the noise. Soon after I had my problem with the tv. I started to get a lot of phone calls at work about the loud buzzing noise. I thought that is was starting to get insane when I started getting call about that tv that were made less the 4 weeks after the problem was discovered and Philips hasn't correted the problem but rather continue making the tvs the same way and have the consumer do the software update themselves if the problem is bothering them. I found it extremely horrible when philips would continue to ignore the problem that they are having with there tv and continue to sell poor quality merchendise. After dealing with completely justified complaints from hundreds of people on units that were out and in warranty I had to end my employeement with philips. I know that after working for philips and buying a Philips tv, which has since gone dead, that you should NEVER BUY PHILIPS. It will be much less stressfull to go without tv for the rest of your life.

Wayne of Fort Myers Beach, FL June 14, 2009

I purchased a 42 inch Phillips LCD, Model PFL4203D/27, three days ago from Sams Club. I downloaded the most current firmware for the set, the day I brought it home. Every day there is a noise coming from the back of the set that lasts about 20-30 seconds that sounds like popcorn popping. I turned the volume down to make sure the noise was not coming from the audio circuit. I phoned Phillips today and spoke to a service representative and asked if he would check the computer records and see if there was a documented problem like this for this model. The service representative said that there was no documented problem and went on to ask when a service technician could come. I told him not to bother and I would be returning this set to Sams and I would buy another brand. His response, "I fully understand sir." I guess he knows how poor the quality is of this television and the other Phillips products.

Purchased new in 2007. Two years later, a series of red blinking lights. Unplugged to reset but didn't help. I called Phillips service center and they said to call a service tech located 80 miles away. After searching the internet, I see that this is a common problem after just a couple of years. PHILLIPS IS JUNK---DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!

Bought the Philips 42in plasma and I am having the same problems as the rest of the folks. TV blacks out after a few minutes being on. Unplug the replug tv works for about 5 minutes then the same results. Based on what I have read, I am in the market for a new TV. For all who want a class action, forget about it. The only one's who make out on a C/A are the lawyers. The plaintiffs get some bogus credit towards a new tv or some lame refund. The attorneys get their fee's and get to retire. I will just not purchase another Philips product. It is a shame, I bought a $200 regular TV and it lasted 15 years with no problem. Spend $1200 on a new TV and it only takes 30 months to crap out.

Lesley of Stockbridge, GA June 13, 2009

My husband and I purchased a Phillips 42 inch ambilight plasma television around 2 and a half years ago for $2700 from Circuit City Yesterday the TV has stop working shows a blank black screen with a flashing pink light on the screen. Contacted Philiips they were no help, said that they knew of no problem with this television, suggested that I call for service. I refuse to pay up to 900 to have it fixed. I just know now that I will not ever ever buy another Phillips product. We are now stuck with a big useless blank screen on our wall...Shame on Phillips. We will be interested in being apart of any lawsuit againts this company

Bought a 42" plasma flat screen, model# 42PF7220A/37 back in 2006 at costco. The problem started a few months ago. While it's working fine, the screen goes black. sound is present, but no picture on any channels. To make it work I have to turn it off for a few minutes. then it works, but lately once it goes black, I have to wait until the next day and that's very frustrating. phillips do something !!!

Same problem: I won a 42" Plasma Philips in December 2007 (one of the top closers at a bank I worked for) and have the same problem. Won't turn on and 7 blinking red lights. My prize has turned into a headache. Uggh!!

Chad of Spokane, WA June 11, 2009

I bought a Philips 42" Ambilight TV from Best Buy in November of 2007. I have had a repairman to my house to replace the circuit board, then when that didn't work, Philips sent me a new TV. Now, this TV has the blinking red lights. I can unplug it, and plug it back in, but still have the same issue on a regular basis. Obviously, with all the hundreds of other complaints, something needs to be done.

In Feb of '07 I purchased a philips 42" plasma tv model: 42pf9630a/37 this last weekend the picture went blank, and now I have a flashing red light on the front panel that blinks at 7 blink intervals. I called philips consumer hotline and got nothing but lip service. They also offered some 'releif' to the tune of a $80.00 credit toward the purchase of another philips tv.. ARE THEY CRAZY ??? why would I but another philips tv when mine crapped out in 2 years !! Now I have come to learn the philips tv division has been sold to another Japanese company, this explains their lack of warranty considerations. I will never buy another philips tv. I am currently having mine repaired , of course at my expense. I own a 32" SONY tv that is 15 years old and still runs like a champ!! Shame on you philips tv and good riddance. Hello SONY !!!!!!!!!!

M. of chattanooga, TN June 10, 2009

20" plasma screen working fine last night, but this morning cycles through green/yellow/red led indicator light. Won't turn on manually or with remote. Though purchased new, Philips rep won't help because he says it was produced in 2006.

Edward of new york, NY June 10, 2009

I purchased a 42inch Philips HDTV for $1500 a year ago and now every time I turn on the tv a bunch of blinking red lights come on and the tv does not operate. This is an outrage as Philips has no idea how to fix the problem and refuses to fix it. I can not afford another tv so I am televison-less.

Freddy of Nashville, GA June 9, 2009

First of all my husband and I are both retired and we saved for quite a while to buy this T V, we thought we did enough research but guess we didn't look at the right places. We bought a 47" Phillips L C D last Sept. 2008 at Sam's Club, we paid $1300.00 with tax. May 15th the picture went black, we called Dish and since the smaller T V that we have was working they said it must me the T V. We finally got in touch with Phillips and on the 20th the T V was picked up by Olive Electronics and the closest business for repairing this T V is in Madison Fl.

I called today and they don't have the part yet to repair our T V and could not give me an estimated time that the part will be delivered to them. We are so afraid that we are just going to be out that money we paid for that T V and as you know money is not easy to come by when you only live on social security.

I know we are not the only ones with this problem but right now I would settle for a full refund for fear something will happen again to it after the warranty runs out. We really do not know what to do about this so please help us out if at all possible. We have been renting a T V for 3 weeks now but will let that go back this week. We have been renting a T V for the entire time and so far we have spent $130.00.I had to have surgery on my foot and have my leg in a cast so this has been very inconvienient and an added expense and worry.

Frederico of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil June 9, 2009

Some days ago I posted a note reporting that known problem: After one year and half, without any explanation, the TV does not turn on. I also said that in Brazil we have very protective laws that compel vendors and manufactures to fix or exchange the products, or give back the money, when they have, as we say, a "hide defect". Before sue PHILIPS I decided to call them again, just giving a chance, and identified myself as a lawyer and warned them about the cost$ of the litigation. Well, they then opened another ticket and today PHILIPS just called me and said that they will send me another brand new flat TV, better (and bigger) than my broken one. They will call me back again on Friday. Let's wait...

James of Penngrove, CA June 8, 2009

Purchsed 42pf7320A/37 42" Plasma Philips at Sam's in Puerto Vallarta and have the same problem as many others. Won't turn on and 7 blinking red lights. Opportunity for a good lawyer to sue Philips because so may people have the same problem

stacey of hornchurch, United Kingdom June 8, 2009

i bought a Phillips 50" flat screen just over two years ago for £1000, the tv hs now stopped working and i have learnt that this is common with phillips televisions. this is not acceptable as i cant afford to get it repaired so i now without a tv. i hope a legal suite can be opened regarding this matter as their televisions are hardly cheap!! they are robbing us in broad daylight and getting away with it

Regina of Thomasville, NC June 6, 2009

purchased a 42 inch plasma tv, just had it right at 2 years - paid 1300 to 1500 dollars for it (i have receipt) i have the blinking lights, will not come on, no sound, exactly like everyone elses complaints on this website. it is ashame pay that much for a tv and it break right at 2 years, called customer service, no help, said to take it to a repair shop, we were out of warranty- repair shop said without seeing it that he thought the "panels" were out and it would be extremely expensive to fix and he has had many complaint on these tvs

David of Newhall, CA June 6, 2009

my 52" plasma tv has the same red blinking light problem. right now i am able to unplug the tv, wait 20-30 sec and plug it back in. the tv works but i am starting to do this on a consistent basis. i bought the tv about 2 1/2 years ago and like many other consumers they are having the same problem. isn't there an attorney that is willing to file a class action lawsuit? i feel like a small fish in a big pond where i cant do anything about it. i got ripped off for 2400 dollars and phillips should pay for this. this is BS!!!!!!!

Chris of San Jose, CA June 6, 2009

My 2 yr old plasma has the "Blinking Red Light" problem that so many have described. Where can I sign up for the class action lawsuit?

phil of delta, PA June 6, 2009

Bought a 50" plasma TV 2.5 years ago and as all the others it quit working and Phillips will do nothing about it. They need a class action suit brought against them.

Dean of North Royalton, OH June 5, 2009

Same story as everyone else. Bought the TV for $1,400 around 2 years ago, now the TV is dead and all I get is the blinking red lights. Philips tech support (phone and email) has provided zero help. I referenced the thousands of complaints like this on the interent, and they responded by saying there is nothing they can do.

Chuck Norris of Los Angeles, CA June 5, 2009

This is so depressing! I have some sort of red line circus thing going on the top of my screen. No red blinking light of death yet. I think I'm going to Round house kick the crap out of the next Phillips guy that says "dur is thur a problum?" 42" Faillips Plasma TV

Janice of Burgettstown, PA June 4, 2009

I am another victim of the "flashing red light" on the Philips 50PF9631D/37 plasma television. At not quite 2/12 years, the television does not turn on until I have unplugged and replugged it - sometimes as many as 10 times. The green power light switches to a red blinking light; I unplug the tv, wait until the red light stops blinking, and then plug it back in again. It is taking longer and longer to work even using this method.

I have called Philips, but the technician said she could not tell what would be wrong. She gave me 2 "approved" service shops - they were both in different states - more than two hours from my home!! I paid $2600 for the television in September of 2006. I will never buy another Philips product - not even a light bulb! I would love to see a class-action suit. Philips has to be aware of this problem, yet pretends it is not. I thought this television would last for many years - and gave up 2 years of vacations in order to pay for it.

maria of melville , NY June 3, 2009

I purchased a 42inch phillips 42PF9631D after two years of having the tv a red blinking light appeared. The tv no longer turns on. Thousands of people have had this problem. After calling customer service several times with no responses or help. I am so fed up and am very willing to start a class action lawsuit with all unsatisfied consumers. philips should pay for selling a defective peice of garbage

Deighton of Kamuela, HI June 2, 2009

42" plasma flat screen, model# 42PF7220A/37; same problem as other complaints, sequence of blinking red lights, tv will not turn on. NO SERVICE DEALERS ON THE BIG ISLAND. Purchased at COSTCO.

Jason of Woodhaven, MI June 2, 2009

We too have the blinking lights. Phillips no longer makes this 50" plasma ambilight tv that we have. We purchased our tv 2 1/2 years ago. We are interested in a lawsuit...

steve of minersville, PA June 2, 2009

About 2 years ago I purchased a philips 50 inch plasma tv with ambilight for a little over $2000. 2 years later it wouldn't turn on, blinking red lights on indicator, unplugged it several times and now picture is real dark. What I have read and peppered throughout the internet their are known issues with philips tvs. I called philips consumer care, and they basically hung me out to dry. It took me 2 years to pay for this tv and as soon as its paid off, it breaks. I couldnt afford the extended warranty on this set which would have been around 500 dollars.

Shawn of Claremore, OK June 1, 2009

In 2006, I purchased a Philips 50" Ambilight Plasma TV that no longer works. It started shutting off and restarting on its own after the first 3 months we had the TV. I figured maybe it was just a remote transmission issue and it wasn't too inconveniencing, until two months ago, it started shutting down and then red lighs with a series of intermittent flashes - 6 flashes followed by three rapid flashes. At first, I was able to unplug the unit for several seconds and plug back in, then the tv worked fine. The problem progressed to the current state in which it is totally non-functioning.

John of Villa Rica, GA June 1, 2009

Ditto - 42" Plasma Philips TV, model 42PF5321D/37. 22 months later the set failed. No picture. I contacted Philips. They sent a local repair serviceman out to inspect the set. He said that several circuit boards needed to be replaced due to failure. After three plus weeks, I was called and told that the parts were on back order.

Three months later, I received a call from someone in Philips that they were going to replace the set.

Kerry of New Albany, OH June 1, 2009

This tv bought in January 2006 has been a complete waste of money. I bought it at Sam's Club in Columbus, Ohio for $1999 plus tax. It is a complete disappointment to think that over $2000 has been spent on something that is now left us with only one option - trash it. The screen goes black with lines going across it and when i phoned customer service regarding the problem for advice they replied with "These tv's do this."

How appalling is it for Phillips to still sell this product as well as Sam's Club keeping it on their shelves for loyal customers to purchase when Phillips and their customer service employees admit as they did to me on Friday, May 29th that the product is a lemon. I am completely unsatisfied and ask that the company stand behind this product and pay for it to be serviced.

The customer service rep offered me a $20 loyalty coupon to replace the tv. I could not believe the audacity of the supervisor Aaron to offer such a small sum compared to what I spent to purchase the tv. My complaint with the company is reference number 7X6ZL. Please help me rectify this situation as a consumer of both Sam's Club and Phillips.

Scott of Sutherlin, OR May 30, 2009

Yet another Blinking Red Light. Bought a Phillips 42 inch Plazma TV and after 17 months the TV won't turn on. I called Repair and they were going to call back with a Repair center number after I called back a second time they still haven't call me back. I research the issue and here you all our with the same piece of junk that I have. I was mess over by Suzuki in the early 90's and told the factory rep that I would never buy another Suzuki Quad and to this day I haven't. YES PHILLIPS I DO HOLD A GRUDGE.

madhusudan of raipur, India May 30, 2009

I have deposited a CTV kit for repair on 23 May but till today it is not repaired. On contacting the care centre they were not confirming the date of delivary.

jennifer of beverly hills , FL May 28, 2009

My 42 icnh lcd tv wont turn on. It flashes 5 red lights in sequence. I called the number on the users manual since there was nothing in it about that and the lady said its saying theres something going on inside the tv that wont allow it to turn on. well duh i already knew that. They couldnt tell me what it was. They program the tvs to flash these codes so they have to know what it is. instead of having to pay someone to figure it out. My hard drive did that once and the code meant it was the power supply easy fix without paying anymore on it. i dont feel i should have to pay more for a tv if something happens no one from philips is gonna give me support. the price we pay for the tvs should give us exellent support. needless to say we could buy a $200 tv and i bet it would explain everything about it. what goes wrong and how to fix it. i have three boys i cant afford to go by a new tv nor to have that one fixed

PETINA of NORTH FORT MYERS, FL May 28, 2009

My mother purchased a Magnavox TV/DVD combo model #19MD357B/37 for my 12 year old daughter for christmas on 12/24/2008. just last month it started exhibiting an issue with the sound when it was on regular TV which is hooked up to a cable line. there was a loud "SHHHH" noise. This did not happen when playing DVD's. Then it started shuting off automatically whether it was on TV or playing a DVD and when we could get it to stay on, there was no sound at all. At times I can turn it off and turn it back on to get the sound to come on but usually is only temporary but even the turning off and turning back on itself is a struggle. I have been having to go through an exhausting regimand every night to get it to play as she has always slept with a TV on in her room and struggles to fall asleep without it. I called the "800" service center number and was basically told to take to a service center near me, which by the way, does not answer the phone nor return phone calls from any messages left, and that anyand all repairs will be at my expense. Granted, my mother paid around $700.00 for the TV which is much less than alot of people have paid for their [bad] MAGNAVOX PRODUCT but it is alot more than I can afford to replace and besides that I would think that a TV that is in that price range would last more than a year and a few months!

I am absolutely disgusted with Magnavox and I can assure you that when I am able to replace my daughters TV or any other electronic device in my home, it most certainly will not be a Phillips Magnavox product!

Donna of Burlington, NJ May 27, 2009

Bought a 50" Magnovox plasma televison less than 3 years ago, nowm, the tv wont go on at all. All I get is 4 blinking red lights. Called customer support and they recommend authorized dealers that is nowhere close to where I live. They wont help diagnose the problem, they claim they dont have technicians. What type of business is this? Read many, many complaints on this product, and still, the company doesnt get it. They false advertise with products that are suppose to be good, but is garbage, then they stick you with other garbage, r charge you an arm an a leg to repair it.

Jason of San Clemente, CA May 26, 2009

Yet another of the same. Bought a 42 inch Philips plasma from Costco about two years ago and it suddenly stopped working - 7 red blinks.

Ronald of Longs, SC May 24, 2009

When I retired and moved to our new home back in September 2005 my wife and I treated ourselves to a flat screen TV Philips Model # 42PF7320A/37 from Sam's Club for the rice of $2,499.00. That was a lot of money for us back then and still is. What we thoought that spending that much money we would not have to buy another in our life time. Well it looks just the opposite.

Reading all the treads that people have written in to complain about the Phillips product we have the exact same problem now with our Model. The same blinking lights. Now i am faced with should I be tempted to call a repair company or just bite the bullet and buy a new one for less than a grand but I promise you that it will never be another Philips product.

BTW - My wife did call the service center and was told to contact a repair center. Could not give us an explaination on the seven blinking red lights.

Iliana of Miami, FL May 24, 2009

I have bought a Phillips Plasma Tv and after 1 1/2 it has stop working. There is a constant red light flashing upon turning it on. I have come to discover I am not the only one experiencing this problem.

john of Girard, OH May 22, 2009

i bought an lg 32 in lcd tv on 12/2006. as of last week it no longer is working. paid 1100.00 for a tv that has not lasted 2 1/2 yras. contacted lg, absolutely no help at all. saw numerous websites c/o lg tvs and their experiences were the same as mine, though some people were able to get the tvs fixed or but ext warranties even though their tvs were just as old as mine.

i did contact the service co. that lg had referred me to and even the gentleman there told me to call them back and try again and to get an event code for parts and service etc, lg acted like they had no idea what i was talking about. the service co told me that it is a power supply failure, which is a very common and costly repair associated with this make and model. 1100.00 for a non- working television, that lg phillips wont even stand behind of help fix

Frederico of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil May 21, 2009

I bought a 26 inch LCD TV and after one year and a half it does not turn on anymore. I called Philips in Brazil and they offered my another TV, but I had to pay the half price of a new one. I decided to sue them. Fortunately the laws in Brazil allow customers to claim for the free repair, a new TV (or better if they do not have the same model) or give the money back. I am lawyer. I do not have to pay for a lawyer but I think this kind of behavior from Philips is totally unacceptable. They know it is a problem that is happening all over the world and they are acting like there is no problem. This is not a loyal behavior and laws in Brazil protect costumers. I am also claiming the moral damages for two reasons, I have to watch Ben 10 and High School Musical (I,II and III) every day because I have two kids and now just one TV :) and because Philips knows it is a problem that is happening all over the world and they are doing nothing. Better they are just increasing their profits. 1000K US$ so far.

Deborah of Atlanta, GA May 20, 2009

My Philips 42" Plasma TV, model #42PF9631D stopped working. When I turn on the TV, a red light flashes and the TV does not come on. I noticed that there have been many complaints about Philips TVs with this same problem. I've only had this TV for 2 yrs. Tech support at Philips was not helpful at all. They expect me to pay $500-$800 in repairs.

Jesse of Salt Lake City, UT May 17, 2009

Well, I have the same story as everyone else. I purchased a 42 in. plasma twenty six months ago and guess what-I now have a dead TV with seven flashing red lights...RIP OFF No way this companie didn't know this was an inferior product!

Dan of Moravia, NY May 14, 2009

We're having problems with our 42PF9630A 37 Philips 42" Plasma. We purchased it for $2000 at Best Buy in June 2006. Around November 2008 we started having problems with the picture. At first, the top half of the picture would go black intermittently. Later, the bottom half started doing it too and at times, both halves at once, resulting in a black screen. We found that by tapping the right side of the TV, we could get the picture back, but eventually, we would have the problem again. Recently, we started noticing a horizontal line across the screen at times and just a few days ago we started seeing colored vertical lines on the bottom half of the screen. Again, tapping the right side fixes the problem for a while. Even before the problems with the picture, we noticed the TV trying to turn on by itself. While sleeping on the couch, I would here the TV click as if it were being turned on, but it never came on and no one was touching the TV or the remote. This seems to be opposite of some owner's problems, but a few have mentioned this same situation. Tonight, the sound went out all together all of a sudden. Tapping the TV and turning it off and on didn't work. All connections were correct. Eventually, we tried unplugging it for a few minutes to see if we could "reset" it and that worked, but I anticipate more of the same, as that seems to be a trend with this TV. We are a young family and put all we could into this item, $2000 not even 3 years ago. It is the most expensive thing in our house. It will take a long time for us to save up for another, especially in this economy. This is our only TV in the entire house so if it goes, we have no television whatsoever. From what I've read here and multiple other places on the web, Philips will be of no help and we can't afford a repair or replacement. We are furious that this big investment is becoming worthless in less than 3 years time! Philips is well aware of their shoddy products and should stand behind what they sell. I would expect this TV to last more than 10 years! They should recall the faulty products. I would certainly be interested in a class action suit against Philips. They should at least offer a tapping device to their customers so we won't have to get up to tap the TV countless times!

Ron of South Park, PA May 14, 2009

i too have the red blinking light on my 50 in plasma...2 yrs old how can we get a recall going on the phillips tv people i also have a dead phillips dvd player

Kenneth of Powders spring, GA May 13, 2009

Yet another victim of the blinking red light. This problem is all over the internet with various models. 50 inch philips plasma tv, barely used, bought new in 2006, started cutting off. After calling the technical support and buying 85 dollars of software to try an upgrade, they recommended a service tech. Paid 92 dollars and was told that this was a swollen capaciters problem. No warranty, new tv, only 3 years old, and a price of close to $600 to get it fixed. This is a manufacturing problem and Philips is not owning up to it.

Allen of LAFAYETTE, LA May 13, 2009

I paid 1900.00 for this TV. March of 2007. January 2009 red light blinking 7 times continues and will not power on. Just keeps blinking red lights!!!

george of Alpharetta, GA May 13, 2009

In Aug 2008 I purchased a 42" Plasma Philips TV, model 42PF5321D/37. 22 months later the set failed. No picture. I contacted Philips. They sent a local repair serviceman out to inspect the set. He said that several circuit boards needed to be replaced due to failure. After three plus weeks, I was called and told that the parts were on back order. Three months later, I received a call from someone in Philips that they were going to replace the set.

Four or five weeks later, the repalcement set arrived. It was a factory rebuilt set. The servicement installed the the replacement set and removed the old set. The original set was 22 months old when it failed in June 2008. It cost me around $1200. The replacement set was installed in October 2008.

In January, 2009, the replacement set suffered the same failure. I contacted Philips. Their reply was that the set was no longer in warranty and they could do nothing. It is very suspicious that both sets failed in less than three years of service. I will never buy any Philips product again. This company should be banned from selling in the United States. I amout $1200 spent on a tv set that didn't last more than 2 1/2 years.

Ray of Knotts Island, NC May 13, 2009

My television has been giving me problems where it would not turn on and flashes red lights. Through the internet I have found this is a constant issue with philips and everyone is complaining and offered a link here. I chose not to complain. However, when I called them to either get a tech manual (the user guide is useless) or at least what the codes are for the red lights signifying the problem, I was told that they do not have them and I would have to contact one of their "authorized dealers".

I don't get it, I bought the television, it's mine, yet I don't get any information on how to troubleshoot the errors I get. This is the equivelant of buying a ford and after the warranty goes out a light comes on showing a rockingchair, me asking ford what it means and them telling me I have to go to the dealership and pay at least $200 just to find out what the error code on my car that I paid for stands for.

The warranty is over and I'm fine with that, the repair is on me, but being denied a troubleshooting manual for my television is just absolutely poor customer service and milking me for my money. I paid $3,000 for whats looking to be a 3 year television and I can't even get the specs on it.

James of Bradenton, FL May 12, 2009

"invested" in a PM 50 plasma model 50mf231d. Cant get the red lights from flashing and it wont turn on. 2 years old and very poor quality in my opinion. ESPECIALLY for the $1299.00 I paid for it. That's a big chunk of change for such a poor TV. I know you hear of "live & learn", but that's really taking advantage of people. I guess this is what happens when outsourcing is taken to the extreme. Customer Service has certainly taken a back seat at this company.

Mike of Tulare, CA May 8, 2009

I have had problems with my 50 inch Philips plasma flat screen since the first year i bought the tv. Which was a lot of money, that i bought from Best Buy.The first year it was under warranty, after talking to the service center a few time i finaly had a tech come out to look at my tv. After three times, the tech finaly found out that one of the control panels was faulty. About three weeks later i finally got my tv back, but also during this time im paying for my high defintion Directv box 89 dollars a month wasted. That was March of 2006 all this happened and was working fine until April 2009.Called Philips serve back to ask what i should do, they pretty much told me to call someone else that deals with plasma tv...Well 800 dollars later and two controll panels later i have my tv back. After wasting another 89 dollars on Directv, im at the same situation.

Sarah of Tewksbury, MA May 6, 2009

We are yet another victim of the dreaded blinking red light problem. Bought a Philips 42PF7320A/37 plasma TV back in December 2005. A week ago the TV just shut off and wouldn't power back up. Unplugging and plugging back in just results in the red LED blinking 7 times. Bought and installed a new power supply board, but didn't help. Will NEVER buy another Philips product!! There needs to be a class action lawsuit filed considering the hundreds and probably thousands of consumers affected by these faulty TV lemons!!!

Jennifer of Spring hill, FL May 2, 2009

Bought a 50" Plasma in 1/07 and just a few days ago the power started acting funny. We unplugged it from the wall and plugged it back in. It came back on...yeah! Well, now it won't come on at all. I get those red lights much like everyone below me. Is there a solution to this? Buy another TV huh?

Mariane of El Paso , TX April 26, 2009

Philips TV Model 32PFL5332D/37 purchased in 2008, barely used as it was the 3rd TV in the house doesn't work anymore. There is a red light that blinks and there is no image and no sound.

Lisa of Jonesborough , TN April 24, 2009

Phillips plasma TV model 50PF9631D/37. The power started going out. In order to fix the problem we had to unplug and replug the TV. Eventually, this stopped working, now nothing works. The TV has completely gone out. All you get is 7 flashing red lights, a pause and 7 flashing red lights again. This will continue until you unplug the TV. I feel like Philips should recall this model TV. $3,100 purchase price.

Lorraine of Bristol, RI April 21, 2009

I bought a Philips 42" Plasma TV in 2003. After the year's warranty expired I then purchased 2 consecutive - 3 year warranties totaling $3,300. In March the TV fell into disrepair. The service technician said he couldn't repair it. He also informed me that the TV was manufactured in 1993! That means it was 10 years old when I bought it.

Service Net is contracted by Philips for the extended warranties. Service net will honor the warranty and provide me with a "NEW" TV. My concern is this: hold old can a TV be and still be considered "NEW"? I've been informed that accepting the "NEW" TV will void my current warranty which still has 18 months left.

Mladen of Grayson, GA April 21, 2009

52" Philips TV stoped working after year and half...blinking red lights. We paid it around $1,600 at Sears. Just had technician today and he ordered part for me(power supply board), total cost should be around $520 with 90 days warranty. After reading these comments I'm thinking about canceling my order.

Kelly of Chicagoheights, IL April 21, 2009

My husband and I bought a 42'Flat Screen Plama TV and its not even 3yrs old, and all of a sudden it went off, then the LCD light went from green to flashing RED, I have called Philips numerous times to found out if there is a recall on the TV and they told me no, I have talked to many service reps and have been told differant stories, This TV cost us nearly 2500, and Philips cant help, but wants us to have a service repair person to look at it, which will cost anywhere from 109.00 to 150.00 just for a serivce call. Thats not including parts and labor,

You would think that the way the economy is now , that the companies would do what they can to help. I will contact channel 2 news to let them know what kind of company philps is and what products they make. I have read several complaints on this website and I dont see philips trying to re-call this type of TV. I will never buy this type of TV made by this company.

Jennifer of Corinth, TX April 15, 2009

Jennifer of Corinth TX (04/15/09)
I purchased a Philips TV model #47PFL3603D/27 in September of 2008 and paid around $1500 for the unit. We put the unit in our upstairs office area and only used the TV on the weekends for upstairs retreats to watch football games. We noticed early on that the TV was having some sound problems and about every 45 minutes a loud static noise would come over the TV. Initially we thought it might be a Dish Network problem and called Dish who told us to simply turn off the TV and Dish and power back up. This worked fine but after a while became annoying so we had a Dish repair person visit our home who said we should try a new HDMI cable. We tried this and the problem persisted.

We called Dish back and they came back out to our home to say it was not a Dish issue for us to contact who we bought the TV from. We contacted Target who would not accept the unit as a return because it was now past the 90 days. As a result, we contacted Philips who put us in touch with a repair center in Dallas. The repair center picked up the TV and had it for three weeks before they diagnosed the problem.

For an additional 2-3 weeks, the replacement part was on back order. I grew tired of using the repair center as a go between and contacted Philips consumer affairs department directly. I was told that policy stated the TV must be in the repair shop for 21 days before a part can be ordered. After appealing to the manager of that department, I was told that I would receive a call from another department in 36 hours. Of course the call never came and I had repeatedly make calls to consumer affairs. Once I was reached by customer relations I was told that they had to wait another two days to see if they could find the part. Two days later, no call.

I called every day until I got an answer - the part would be another five weeks. I refused to be without the unit for that much longer and they agreed to replace the unit in approximately 10 days. I was so emotionally tired of this situation and was so relieved to feel like the issue was resolved. UNTIL The unit arrived at my house yesterday as a refurbished unit that was not even the same as the old one. When I called customer relations to tell them I never agreed to a refurbished replacement, they said it's in the warranty fine print and that if the TV works, then I should have nothing to complain about.

PLEASE, DO NOT PURCHASE A PHILIPS BRAND PRODUCT! This has caused emotional chaos and exhaustion in my everyday life for over six months and has affected my family life. I have had to take numerous days of work to have TVs picked up, delivered, and for visits from the satellite company yet the issue is still not resolved. Essentially, I am being punished for making what was obviously a poor purchase. Do not let this happen to you!

Bought TV a little over 2 years ago. Televisions should last like refrigerators. I have a 4 inch black bar on left side of display shows up in all sources.

I am out a little over $1,000. Bought this via my employer site for Philips.

bought 50 plasma model 50mf231d in 1/07. In 4/09, it would not turn on anymore. Got the green light at first, then the dreaded four blinks of red repeatedly. Unplugged and replugged several times and that worked for about another 2-3 days. Now completely dead. Will never buy another product from this company again. I am hopeful for legal action based on the numerous complaints...it is obvious there is a known defect with these tv's.

Lost $1300 purchase price, plus had to buy replacement set (different brand)for $900.

I bought a Philips 42'' plasma tv back in March-07. Lately the tv doesn't want to come on anymore I get a series of four red blinking light and it doesn't come on. I have been reading all the complaints that ALOT of people have with this product. I can't figure out whjy it hasn't been recalled. I kept got the extended warranty fron Philps.

We move from our pervious address and we never got a renewal letter fron Philips so my wife called and told them about our problem with the warranty. They told her that they didn't send an invitation to renew our warranty. I think that they knew about all the problems people had with this product, and didn't want to deal with this any more.

I have called around to a few places to get an estimate and they said it was a very costly repair. One technition also said that this problem was very common with this make and model of plasma television.

In a very sad way, I actually feel better reading all this other complaints..:-) I bought my 32 inch LCD Magnavox tv about 15 months ago, and it is now dead real dead. I can't believe it, I paid almost $1000 dollars for it. Just unbelievable!! I guess I am back to shopping $50 dollar tvs at the Goodwill. They work better and I actually get better service..!!.

My Tv went out. I had purchased it at Sam's in Victoria and afterwards I received a letter in the mail for a service contract for 5 years and I purchased it. I later received a letter for a warrenty on the picture tube which I also purchased for 5 years. I put both contracts in a draw and thought that I would never use them. Today I called the service department. They told me both contracts were for the picture tube and I would have to find a service man to take care of it for the contract did not cover the service only the picture tube. They then told me that I had purchased 2 contracts for the same thing. They have drawn interest on that money for 2 years and they can not even find me a service man. I really thought Philips was a better company. They did offer to refund my money on the contract without interest of course.

I was sick when I called, could barely talk due to a sore throat and wasted 30 minutes of my cell phone time from holding. These companies realize when they put those contracts in on the same serial number that the contracts are duplicates and they have charged a person twice for the same thing.

My Phillip amberlight 42 inch tv has blown out after 6 months. I paid 1600.00 I will contact a lawyer. With all complaints on this tv, why won't Phillip recall these tv's. the red light is flashing 7 times. We will start a class action suit.

Last night, my Philips 42 inch plasma, model # 42PF7320A/37, stopped working. It shut down and the red light now flashes 7 times. Last week while watching a movie, the display blanked out several times, but came back on, but now, nothing happens except the flashing light. I got pretty dismayed by seeing all the other complaints and how unsucessful the repairs have been, if at all. I thought I was getting a good deal when I found it on sale for $1200, marked down from $1800, back in Mar 2007, but little did I know. Maybe they knew something then?

Now I'm without a TV and out $1200. I'll definately research my next purchase better and I DO know, that it won't be a Philips.

I bought my Philips 42 inch flat screen from a circuit city in sept of 2006 and it is a goner 30 short months later. When I would go to turn it on in the morning it would blink red. I would unplug it and replug it and - VIOLA! It WORKED. That lasted for 3 days. Now even re-pluggin will not help. Just a series of 4 flashing lights is all the entertainment I get from that thing hanging on my wall. I did my internet research on how to fix it - jurys out - but also sounds like I am out $2500.

Since I am yet to call a TV tech to get it fixed, I am just out the cost of the TV which was $2,500

Bought a Philips 42in plasma TV from Costco wholesale in Sep of 06 for a little over $1300. Within three months the TV developed a blue line on the far right of the screen from top to bottom. Costco said it was out of their hands, and to contact the MFG. Philips Elec. said they would repair it but shipping would have to come out of our pocket. So we decided to leave it as is, for the high cost of shipping the TV!! Worked fine although distracting until 4-2-09 when the TV would not turn on!! Just a green light followed by seven flashes of red. So for $1300 bucks we got a little over two years use out of the TV. Thats $650 bucks every 15 months. I will never buy from either Costco or Philips again!!

Lost $$$ in this deal!

After my husband and i got married we decided to get a new tv. the projection tv that we had for at least 9 years was big and we wanted a nicer picture and HD to use with our HD cable. We purchased a Philips plasma TV model 50PF9631D/37 in December of 2006. the tv turned itself on and off several times a day for about 2 years. Now the tv will not turn on, the green light flashes red 7 times repeatedly and never does turn on. We unplug the tv and plug it back in several times, waiting several minutes before plugging it back in each time. So far we have been able to get it to turn back on, but each morning we go through this routine...

We paid abou $3000 for this tv and I feel that I have been ripped off. After reading all of these reviews, there has to be something done about this problem. They obviously are using faulty parts to manufacture these tv's and are dooping a lot of people out of a lot of money. I guess it is only a matter of time before my tv stops turning on. i will buy a new tv and it will NOT BE A PHILLIPS!!

I had purchased a 50 inch plasma in December 2007 for my parents. In June 2008 the television started switching itself off. After calls to customer service, we downloaded updates to the tv. In December they finally sent out a repair man, who was unable to fix the problem. A Philips' repair service center in Houston, TX picked up the television in January and was unable to fix it.

I have been dealing with Philips now since June of 2008. They are willing to send me a replacement television, but one that is smaller than my original television and much cheaper. I thought I was alone in the television mess according to what they told me: We have few consumer complaints and few returns. I guess I was wrong. I have called, taking an hour out of my work time, several times only to get incompetent idiots who cannot help me. All they say is that they sympathize with me. I don't need their sympathy. I want my $1500 and 9 months back!! I have even sent letters and made so many calls I do not know what to do. That was $1500 of hard earned money down the drain!!!

I bought a Tv. on June of 2008. On January 2009 it broke, all of a suddent it just shut off by itself and stop working. I called the company right away and they promised to send me a new one or a replacement the next business day, and that it will take from 10 to 13 day to recive it. 18 days later I called them back to let them know I had not received the tv. yet, their excuse was that they had called me on the 27 to see if I wanted a Magnavox insted, but since nobody answered and their was no answering machine. they were waiting.I told them I did not wanted a Magnavox but that I wanted a phillips like the one that I had. They said they were going to send that to the thecnicians. telling them that I had decline the tv. and that I had to wait 3 to 5 business days for them to call me back.

I called them back after 3 days and they said they were sending me a phillips now.. but a different model. I said ok so that was thir secon time promesing a tv for me. I waited again the 13 days and called them back. because I had not received the tv..when I called complaining about it they said that the last person I had talked to had not finished the process and that no tv had been send but that for sure I was going to get one in 10 to 13 days. that was the third time they had promise this. finally after almost 2 months I received a Tv.. it was a phillips but was not working right.

I called them back very upset and they said they were sending me another one. I got one but It is a Magnavox. I don't want a magnavox. it doesnt even look close to what I had baught before. I want something that I like now what they want to send me. I'm not happy with this tv. I just got it today. It doesnt have any of the functions they one I had before and it doesnt have the protective screen. I choose that one for a reason and I called them back to tell them I didn't wanted. first they try to say I had accepted the magnavox that somebody had called me saying I had agree to get that one. I said no! I never agree to anything. since the beginning I said I didn't wanted a Magavox.

they said they couldn't exchange it for cosmetic reason and that I was going to have to stay with this one because there was nothing they could do. and that was the supervisor I was talking to. she said she was going to pass it on to the tecnician but she wasn't going to promise me anything that it was going to be up to them. I'm very upset. I almost feel like I want to sit and cry because I feel like they are abusing their authority with me and that they want to treat me like nothing. please help me. I will really appreciate it. I paid 6 hundred and something for this tv. and I also bought extended warranty too.

Exactly after 2 years, 3 months my Plassma TV Philips 42PF9631D/37 went blank. When I switch on, red light flashes 7 times and does not turn on. Customer service was totally useless. Also, reviewing consumer affairs, I realized I am not alone. As the other customer mentioned, I will never buy another Philips product.

Surpised to hear from Philips Technical service dept that they have never heard of similar complaints or registered.

I am very upset and I have a big problem with one of your products and hope Philips can help me through this way, because I have not received any help from Philips in Chile. I bought in October 2006, a Philips Ambilight TV model 42PF9630A/37 number, serial number YA1A0620013600. I bought this TV at $ 2330 USD. Immediately brought to my house, and very happy with my family for our new investment, the TV has problems, which were resolved through telephone contact. In November 2007, my TV again failed. Called to service will tell me who died and video cards.

This February, my TV again failed. In service they told me who died the video and buffer cards. Since my TV is not guaranteed and the price of repair is extremely high. I am hopeless, and with a big problem in Chile and no one has responded to this TV that came with failures. I demand a solution. Ideally a new TV delivered mine defective, or at least a new TV at a special price. It's impossible communicating with the managers of Philips in Chile. This is my last option for help. My other alternative is to begin publication in newspapers and the Internet, saying my experience and calling Chileans not buy Philips products. I await your response.

I bought a Philips LCD TV Model 37PF7320A in April, 2006. Exactly 2 years later the Costco warranty ran out and so did the TV. It cost $350 to repair and the repair had a 90-day warranty. Now in April 2009, the TV intermittently refused to start up. At this point I only get a green light for a time, then a pattern of red flashing lights: 5 long, 3 short, and then a repeat of this. I called the authorized repair service I used before and they will not even return my call. This is ridiculous. I have a 15 year-old tv in my bedroom that fell from a shelf in our last earthquake and is still chugging away. You can be sure it isn't a Phillips.

This television cost $1500 when I bought it. The repairman said it would be like new after that last repair. Well, I guess a NEW Philips is completely worthless. Judging from the complaints I've read about Philip's televisions, I three my money away trying to repair it. The Philips piece o' junk is headed for the scrap pile.

I purchased a 50 DLP Model 50ML8105/17 and it only lasted 2 years. The power screen will only stay pn for a few seconds at a time before the front panel shows 3 red lights. Tech Support and Customer Service couldn't even tell me what causes the problem. I have never had a TV set last such a short period time. It seemsthat most of the complaintants TV's are crashing around 2 years.

I paid $1000 for this TV and cannot afford to purchase a new one or pay to takeit to a repair shop.

Purchased a Philips 42 plasma tv model (42PF9631D/37) in Febuary of 2007. That particular day i remember the bestbuy employee trying to sell me a two year warranty. He was actually working very hard at it... ( I wonder if he knew more about what I was buying than I wanted to know) and I refused the warranty plan.

I've owned numerous philips electronics through-out the years and never would have figured to have a problem like i did so quickly. March 12th 2009 I come home and my wife informs me that the television is not working. Blinking red l.e.d. light 7 times. After some searching and a phone call to philips, it looks like I have a $1600.00 piece of !#*&%. Thank you very much philips, in the future, when your marketing people are trying so hard to create a appealing television, REMIND them that customers would like to purchase a television that MIGHT last for more than a twenty five months. OR better yet, make sure salesmen/women warn customers that this nice looking, high priced television will only last twenty five months. Remind them that calling philips will only get you a sorry, we cant help you with that. As far as i'm concerned this is nothing short of fraud!

That particular year, I spent almost my whole tax refund on this television, I've never owned anything more that a 25 tube t.v. and figured it was about time i treat myself. I might as well have gone to the bank, withdrawled one thousand six hundred dollars and threw the money out on the street. I then, was fortunatly not in much of any debt, therefore was able to purchase the television. As of now this year 09, things are quite a bit different.

42 philips ambilight tv stopped working just after 2 years - just after warranty - blinking red light just like everyone else - no help from best buy no help from philips - expensive paperweight now!!!! went ahead and forwarded all the complaints from consumer affairs on these tv's to philips tonight - cut and paste from here to philips customer care. maybe they will answer my question as to why they are not standing by thier product. media attention is necessary here.

we spent a lot of money on a one time luxury item as a treat for our family - but rich or poor no product in this category should only last two years!! especially when the company refuses to do anything about it.

When I moved my philips tv from the floor to the wall I no longer had it on a surge protector. After about a month I got the blinking light problem. I put up a surge protector behind it and turned it on and off. The first time it was on same problem except the screen flashed, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in again and now it seems to work. From what I understand the tv was in safe mode and the surge protector allowed it to fix itself.

I purchased a Philips 42inch plasma a little over 2 years ago. TV recently went blank and green pwoer light now flashes red. I attempted to get a Philips rep to assist with troubleshooting but because my warranty expired I was simply referred to a authorized service center who wanted me to pay $800 for parts and labor. Upon doing a google search I notice that there are thousands of customers who purchase Philips televisions and after approx 2 years they experience the same problem. This seems too much of a coincidence and more like a product default.

42 Philips Plasma Flat Screen purchased end of December 2005. Last night on March 13, 2009, the set would not turn on. Just got blinking red light in series of 7 blinks. Unplugged, waited, plugged back in. Light went green then back to blinking red. Called technician at Philips and he said there was nothing he could do. I've read the complaints and surely there should be investigation into this matter. 47 Brand new Flat screen LCD TV turns on and off randomly up to 10 times during a movie. You have to wait 10 minutes to turn it back on. A red light flashed twice then solid. I also tried updating the firmware as philips suggested from 1.08 to 1.15, and this did not work. It was stated in the update of 1.15 that it was meant to fix this problem. So Philips basically admits to selling faulty TV's to the general public.

I drove 3 hours to pick up this tv. I spent time with Philips customer service, update firmware, and this still doesn't work. This is a hassle for honest paying consumers, showing the actually manufacturer is selling faulty tv's and getting away with it. I am not the only one with this problem, seems over the internet there are a lot of people with the same issue. As the item was purchased at Wal-Mart, WalMart will not even except an exchange on this item because I do not have the paperwork for the site to store information

We purchased a Philips Plasma TV (Model 42PF9631D/37) in January 2007 for $1,500.00. Guess what happened in January 2009? Yep. The dreaded red blinking lights. After much internet research, it appears that I now belong to a not-so-exclusive club with hundreds (thousands?)of members who are all victims of Philips' shoddy workmanship and non-existant customer care. I hauled the tv to a local repair shop where the technician diagnosed a bad power supply board. Because I cannot afford the $500.00 to fix the hunk of junk, I attempted the DIY repair and replaced two bad capacitors. Although this repair has been successful for many (according to various technical websites), of course, I had no luck. So, I decided 2 weeks ago to just order a new power supply board and install it myself. I have been informed that this part is on national backorder with no ETA. Great.

We cannot afford to replace this tv. $1,500.00 is a lot of money for a tv that only lasts 2 years.

I was not surprised to find that when I googled my Philips LCD model number an endless supply of complaints relating to the same defect problem came up! Calling all Lawyers...Where are you and a class action suit? On 9/3/2006, I purchased a Philips 37 LCD TV model # 37PF9631D. On 10/17/2006, the TV did not turn. When I attempted to turn it on, I heard a click and then a red light blinked 6 times.

Philips authorized a repair. The TV came back and again the same thing happens less than a month later on 11/5/2006. The TV goes back to repair people. It comes back and works fine until 12/22/08 when EXACTLY the same thing happens! We contacted Philips and they said we were out of warranty. We stated that it is EXACTLY the same problem that was repaired twice within the first year of ownership. Philips representative didn't care and again just stated that the TV was out of warranty.

So here I am with a 2 year old TV I paid $1,689 for and it doesn't work. Since I apparently have no recourse I've decided to make myself feel a bit better by spreading the word about Philips. At least I can enjoy telling anyone who will listen about my experience with Philips. What kind of company will not stand by it's product? Shame on Philips for selling a defective product to consumers and not acknowledging it.

I purchased a VERY expensive Phillips plasma TV from Best Buy. I have had it for a little over 18 months and the TV wont turn on, I smelt what I thought was wires burning by the TV a few days earlier. I contacted Best Buy and they gave me 2 numbers to call Phillis/magnovox. 1 number had been disconnected and the other sent me to a web site to purchase a new TV.

I noticed that there are MANY comp[laints about the Phillips products doing the same thing (I just googled my phillps tv wont turn on and couldnt believe my eyes) I just want my VERY expensive TV fixed, no one will help and obviously I am not the only person with this problem.

I am not sure is something may have burnt inside the TV. I'll have to hake it off the wall and check for residue.

After reading the numerous reports of the same issue of the red blinking light, I too have fallen victim of buying a faulty Philips product with less than two year use model 42PF49631D/37. No pic, no sound just the seven blinks from the red LED. The calls to Philps ended in the same response as everyone else, unplug, plug, unplug, plug to no avail. What they forgot to tell me was to unplug and throw it in the trash.

From what I have read, it looks to be a $400-$500 fix which does not guaranty any further life expectancy afterwards. A notice on this web site mentions that our comments are being reviewed, if so, when will an attorney step up the plate and take some consumer action that is desperately needed. I under stand that there may already be a recall of certain models but not the ones having the same issues. It would certainly be nice to have Philips expand the recall coverage for models such as mine and others with the same issues of a red light that just sits there and winks at you.

The economic hardship is that one can afford to pay thousands of dollars every two year or less for a telivision which use to have a 10-20 longevity. Obviously they have faulty workmanship or use inferior parts.

On February 20, 2009, guess what? Our family fun time after supper was over. All of the sudden the TV started flashing BLUE, flickering faster and faster, until it went out. Yes like many of you, powered on/off, etc., phone calls, etc., repair shops, and all to no avail.

It is a CRIME, theft of service, we all paid, dearly, for the service of a working TV. Who can afford to go out at these times. Now we don't even have a TV to enjoy our Wii playtime. My kids don't understand, we can't afford to go buy another TV. The last TV I bought, was a RCA 30 something inch Console TV. That was 21 years ago. I paid about $350.00 for it. Sure which I had it back. We had to go and get all technical, and upgrade....to what bankruptcy?!?

42 Phillips plasma TV flashes red 7 times,no picture no sound. It ran just over the one year warranty 13 months. I have tried to deal with Phillips & best buy to fix this issue with no results, get what everyone else gets the runaround not under warranty.

I can't afford to pay to have it fixed. Why is Phillips allowed to get away with selling defective TV. Why is best buy not doing anything about selling bad TVs to its customers knowing full well that Phillips is an issue. Phillips should be made to recall there bad product. This is just another example of the big guy taking advantage of the consumer

My 37 LCD TV model 37MF231D stopped turning on after only 2 years use. I called their tech support and talked to Suzy ref#77GNC when the tv started flashing immediately after turning it off about a month ago. I also told her the tv was not going on or off as it should and it would take several tries to get it working. I was concerned about it causing a fire as it would begin flashing in the middle of the night. She said there was not reports of the power switch not working and didn't have a fix.

This, despite the fact that on a google search I found hundreds of complaints about the same problem. Thay basically lied to me and gave me the address of a Vidio Audio Specialist in our area. What ever happened to TV's that lasted 20 years. No more. I guess you just rent them for two years at a very high cost.

With the current economy, our tv was our only source of entertainment. Now we don't even have that. Lemon laws for electronics needs to be enacted and these companies that are producing these inferior products need to be held to account for these situations. I've lost a $1000 investment. $500 a year rent for a tv is just not worth it.

I purchased a 19 LCD TV in July 08. In October 08 I returned it to the company because it would not turn on. They sent me a Renewed version of the TV. In Janurary 09 I the renewed TV started doing the same thing. Not always turning on. It was very inconsistent. In Feb 08 I called to see about returning the product and getting my money back. I was told by customer service that a product needs to be returned at least 3 times before they will give money back. Those 3 times have to occur within your 12 month warranty or you will get nothing. How likely is that??? And why should we have to go through that much frustration before they believe a product has a real issue. From the posts on this site I can see my initial assumption (this is a know issue and they keep sending out product with the same issue) is true. I'd suggest you NOT purchase a Phillips product if this is there standard return/repair policy.

I have a Philips 42 Plasma TV, I believe model 42pf5321d/37. It began not turning on when you power it up. Just a green light, then nothing. I called Philips, and as many have already stated, got the same response. It's over the 1 year warranty, take it to a repair shop.

After searching, it seems there are many others with similar issues - sets that are recently out of warranty and Philips will not assist in anyway. You would think that when you pay over $1500 for a TV, it should at least last a few years. I have been a Philips customer for years, but as I stated to the support rep, never again. Cannot use the TV.

Sure enough at just over 2 years old, my 42 Philips Plasma Television quit working with no offer of any assistance from Philips. They said to call a 3rd party repair service. After looking on this site, this is a common Philips problem.

On Feb.10, 2004 I bought a Phillips 42FD9954/17s 42 plasma tv for $4999.98+tax. Last month I started to have the powering up problem everyone is discussing here (red/green light). After reading many of the posts, I started to realize that I was lucky to have my tv last so long. Phillips should be ashamed of themselves, but then again, they did 'rent' me a tv for $1000.00 per year.

I purchased a magnavox 32mf231d aboutt 2 years ago and the tv stopped turning on. I turned the tv off and the next day the green power light came on but no picture or sound. Called up customer service and was told to call a tv repair service. I payed almost 1000 dollars for this tv and now it does not work. I looked on line and everyone that complained about this tv has the same issue. Phillips Magnavox should fix or replace our tvs for free. We are forced to change to digital service but the tvs we buy do not even last 2 years. something needs to be done about this. These tvs are not cheap.

I lost about 1000 dollars on a tv that lasts only 2 years. Can not afford a new tv. So I am stuck without one. thanks Phillips Magnavox.

Like so many others here and on other forums, my Phillips 42PF320A/37 plasma TV has stopped working. When I turn it on, I get a steady green LED light for a few seconds, and then it blinks red seven times in a row, over and over again. I haven't bothered to contact Philips, because apparently they are either unresponsive, or they tell everyone to take it to a repair shop, but then never send the repair shop any parts. Why bother.

I am also one of the unlucky and unknowing people who bought a Phillips Flat Plasma TV. My model is the 42PF320A/37. I now see that I am in an extremely large group that experienced the same problem. It also seems that this problem spans the entire Phillips plasma spectrum of TVs The TV works fine (mine a little over three years) then it quits. One morning the set was working normally when it went blank and a red LED began blinking what I have found out is an error code. My set's code is eight blinks a pause followed by eight blinks continuing as long as the set is plugged in.

Upon contacting Phillips customer service, I was told to unplug the set for three minutes the plug it in. When this resulted in no change I was told to contact a local repair service. I see that repair services have problems getting parts from Phillips so their suggested remedy to me probably won't work. Does Phillips expect new sets to be purchased when the old ones fail so soon? Obviously Phillips has lost many customers, now including me.

I feel that someone spending $1800.00 should expect a TV to work for more than three years. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as other sets have failed in their second year or before.

Got the 42 lcd tv the beging of august 08, dec of 08 starting having problems with the set. The tv went to a local repair shop Jan 12. They figured out what was wrong and told me, they also told be the philips does not like to send parts to fix there electronics. And they warned me that it is going to take forever. Well it is the middle of Feb and my tv is still not fixed and philips has not done anything to fix it. They keep saying sorry and someone will call you. I feel that i am never going to get this issue resolved.

I spent over 1500 for a tv, i don't have it, and they said they might send me a refubished set, after i bought a new one? Go figure

After reading all of the complaints regarding the Phillips/Magnavox plasma TV complaints, I feel alot better that we are not the only ones dealing with the exact same problems everyone else seems to have. We too have owned our television for about 2 years now, and about 1month ago, it too started to have problems with starting up. Initially we would unplug it and it would then take about 30-45 minutes of the power on button just blinking a green light, and eventually start up. Now, it just blinks and blinks and never comes on.We have contacted the company, but told us they too could do nothing and to take it a repair shop. The console cost us about 1200 dollars and it will take more than this to repair. We hope to have a solution to our problem and hopefully through consumer complaints will achieve this.

Purchased Philips LCD Model 37PF9631D/37 August 2006. $1750.00 TV is out of 1 year warranty. Contacted consumer support about problem with TV and all Philips support told me was to take TV to a repair shop in my area. There are many consumers with the same problem I have with my TV. No recall from Philips on this model.

Philips support did not even suggest what could be wrong with the TV just directed me to a repair shop. I have to send the TV to a repair shop or try to fix it myself. I will not purchase any more Philips products in the furture and I will have the expense of repairing the TV. Cricut boards for this TV cost around $100 used. I purchase a power supply for $149.95 but that was not the problem with TV and had to send board back to supplier at a 30% restocking fee. Contacted another person on E-Bay for help with TV and he stated That it was likely the Small Signak Board which will cost app. $100+ if I can locate this unit.

Philips plasma tv model 42pf9630a/37. After 12 months use the unit began exhibiting intermitent problems, ie, portions of the screen going blank, colored lines appearing on the screen. Now the problem is persistant, and the tv is unwatchable.

I would have probably thought that this was an isolated instance confined to my particular unit. But judging from all the complaints about the Philips plasma tv's, I have come to the conclusion that Philips has produced and sold to the public a product which is essentially a lemon. I personally paid $3000+ when I purchased this item, and many others have paid similarly. These expensive tv's shouldn't be failing en masse after such a short period of time. Philips was no help...sorry you are out of warranty, repairs are at your expense.

I paid 2100.00 for my 50 plasma [model 50mf231d/37] and now after only 2 years of owning the tv, the brain in it is malfunctioning, and i have to unplug the tv like 20 to 50 time just to get the screen to come up, so that i can even use the tv. I have read countless reports on this site of consumers that have bought philips/magnavox televisons and have had the same problem or worse and almost all of them have had there television about 2 years. someone needs to look into the way that they produce there products because they are just ripping people off.

I won't ever buy another philips/magnavox product again if this is the way they are produced. The costumer support sucks also, they were no help at all, all they said is you need to call a service center and gave me a number. If i have to pay to have it fixed it will cost me another 5 or 600 dollars on top of the 2100.00 i already spent. I have to travel about 40 miles just to have it serviced if i had the time or the money

One more story about the Philips TV 50PF7321D/37 purched in March 2007 not making it past 2 years. A few days ago it made a popping noise, the screen went red & then blank. A crack appeared on the screen & it was all over. Repairs are estimated more than it's cost. There is defintely a problem with these TVs. There's too many of us.

Threw away $2000. We're going to miss the Super Bowl & now have to buy another TV. Hope we get a new stimulus check soon.

It is still in his hands and NOTHING has been done to have it fixed or repaired. I have a 42 philips plasma TV Model no. 42PF9631D/37 It was mage in June of 2006. It will not stay on. The green light clicks on and 10 seconds later it clicks off and a red light comes on and flashes 7 times intermittently. I've tried unplugging and replugging and once in a great while it will come on.

I am so sick of Philips Company. I called them and they are no help. go to an authorised repair shop. This is the second one I bought from them. The first one, after 2 months, had a problem with discolored pixels. It was under warranty so the nearest repair shop picked it up. It was there for over 4 months. Parts were back ordered and never sent.

After calling Philips every week for 4 months they finally gave me a new TV. It is not even 3 years old and looks like it has quit. Of course it is not under warrany any longer but I have found that I am one of many that are having the same problem with Philips plasma TV's. Something should be done about this as people are paying big money for these TV's and they are no good.

I am in my 60's and cannot afford another TV.

My philips 42 in plasma started to go black. First with half the screen. top half then bottom half. Well a couple of months went by with no problem at all worked great and loved the set. We got home turned it on then a little while later it went black shut off and the red led light flashed 4 times!

Just like all the others a little over two years old and a little out of luck. There has to be something we can do about this! I read one poll and over 58% experienced the same problem and same results! I am ready to go to the media about this to make it known nation wide!

Well we are out 1500$ and losing money by the month on the high definition service that we finally got 2 months ago! We took my daughter's TV so now we watch a little Disney princess 13in sitting under our 42in plasma.

The 42 inch Magnavox HD TV I bought is less than two years old; just past the warranty. The picture went out and now nothing comes on. A Sears repairperson said a fuse was blown out; he replaced it and it blew again. The repairperson thinks something is wrong with the circuitry box mechanism, advised that it would cost about $250.00 to replace it and he wasn't sure this would resolve the problem. I spent over a thousand dollars for this TV and it is more than disappointing that just after the warranty ended, this TV is not working and I don't know if I should invest more to get it repaired.

I, too, have a problem with the Philips plasma TV, Model# 50PF9631D/37 (5 inch Ambilight, $1,994.99). I purchased mine from Best Buy in February, 2007. I just now sent a polite e-mail to Philips, asking them to repair it under the Implied Warranty of Merchantability (since the express warranty is only for 1 year). I really doubt it will do any good. Unless they agree to fix it for free, I will then send them a Massachusetts Consumer Protection Statute Letter (93A). I really doubt it will do any good. Unless they agree to fix it for free, I will take them, and Best Buy, to Small Claims Court.  What we really need it for the United States to adopt the Consumer Protection Statute that the European Union has in place.

If I understand it correctly, pretty much everything, except for things which shouldn't last 2 years, like apples or pencils, is covered under an automatic 2-year warranty. This effectively puts the burden of proof on the manufacturer and retailer to prove that at item shouldn't last that long. This makes sense because there is probably some law already in place in every state in the U.S. that makes selling junk like this illegal. It is just too hard to prove, unless you are a licensed electronics engineer, that it is THEIR faulty workmanship and/or engineering. I like the EU law because it puts the burden of proof on the people who designed and built the TV (or whatever), and who therefore are experts in the field. If you see of any member of Congress trying to get the EU Consumer Protection Law passed here in the U.S. SUPPORT IT.

I am getting vertical shadow or water mark looking problem on mt 42mf531D/37. I have not contacted support at Magnavox just from past experiences with devices that are out of warranty. I have not had good luck with this in the past, since their products seem to have issues or die after the warranty is up.

After doing a quick Google search I can see that others with this model are having the same issues and are not having much luck talking to Philips. Not sure why I bought another one of their products. Guess I'm not that bright. I think next time I will go out of my way to not buy one of their products.

I purchased a Phillips 50'Plasma tv, model#50PF9631D/37 from Sears 2 years ago. 12 1/2 months after purchase the tv screen went black, no longer under warrenty. Called Sears contract ctr. and explained to them and they sold a service contract to me and set a date for repair, on the repair date the service man called me while in route to my home and said he will have to call sears that the contract is no good! He called back and stated it just got cancelled. I called to complain to Sears contract department and got the supervisor and she said that the other lady should not have sold me the contract.

I took the unit to an authorised Phillips repair shop and he said he found only a fuse blown and that he could'nt believe that so he let it play for several days (note that I found channels programmed into the antenna part which never was used due to Dishnetwork does not require the owner to use that function.)

A year later, just the other day it went out again just like before so I did a research on this TV on the internet and found many with the exact same problem with posts/pictures that displayed the fuse location. So I went to another repair shop, took them the fuse which was in fact blown and he sold me one. I put it in and it played for a week and today it blew again! This is an ongoing problem with Phillips plasma ambilight tv and needs to be looked into.

A lot of money spent for a product place on the market with problems from the manufacture. (note that Sears delivered the set to my home to set it up.)

oct 2008 my 37magnavox lcd tv had red light blinking and would not turn on until i had tried 3 times. also sound would just go silent while watching a program. i have a service contract with rhem so i called. they came out and took the tv with them retuning it in about 10days. the on light was fixed but not the disappearing sound.

since then they have returned 2 more times and tv still drops sound. i've contacted my service contract and tv repair service they use and have been told that they do not know how long i will have to wait for parts and they will not honor their advertisement that the unit would br replaced if it couldn't be fixed within a reasonable time. they will not tell me what a reasonable time is but one of their representatives said could be 6 mkonths.

i am a retired lady living on a fixed income and i pais 1400.00 for this tv. i would like magnavox to honor their commitement to me and replace or fix this tv, now. 3 months is not reasonable and it very likely could be longer. after reading some consumer comments it looks like this is a very common problem and has been for some time. they are aware of it and have not fixed it.

TV model # 42MF431D (42 HD TV) Developed a verticle thin red line in the left portion of the display.

I contacted the warranty dept, they told me to take it to a repair shop. I made numerous status inquiries and after the shop had my TV for over a month, they said phillips couldn't provide the required parts. I then spoke with customer service and was told I would get a new TV (a discontinued model). When the TV arrived is was not new, it was reconditioned and worked worse than my original TV. The customer service rep was deceptive on the product replacement and the product they sent was not serviceable.

I purchased a Phillips Home Theater system with an Fm radio , when I went to plug it up, I found that the Fm antenna was missing, so I was unable to use the Fm radio, so I called the place of purchase, talked to the electronics dept, was told they don't sell anything like that.

I then drove to Radio shack, to see if they may have the right part, but they had never seen anything like that before, so I was without a radio, which was the main reason for purchasing the component I have mentioned, but I have since alleviated the problem, just returned it for a full refund,

so in closing if [they] are going to sell a product then [they] should supply all the materials that are required in order to get what you are supposed to out of an item. Just the hassle of it all, but don't worry I'll never buy [their] products again

We purchased along with my brother in law 2 - 42Phillips Plasma TV's (model number 42pf9630a/37) in January 2006. My brother in laws failed when the picture turned red and then it would not turn on in only 1 year and 2 months. Well wouldn't you know that today we turned on our 42 Phillips Plasma TV and it has red lines running through the entire picture and I am sure it will it will be failing shortly.

At $2000.00 apiece or for this family $4000.00 this is consumer theft. We have had Hitauchi's, Zenith, RCA's etc for many years and never ever expected to pay this kind of money for this premium product to have it fail and then have the company just brush it off with the ol' 'sorry the one year warrenty is over you should have bought the extended.

Back in 2007 there was a recall issued for certain serial and model numbers and of course our's was excluded from the recall. It seem that there are thousand of more consumer that need to be compensated. Damage is that we have to purchase a new TV in tough times when this one should have lasted for the 10,000 hours it was promised.

Purchased a 42 in. lcd/plasma tv, model # 42pf7321d/37 on 7/3/06 for 1730.00. as of last week 12/20/08 the tv will turn on, green light, no picture, then blinking red and still nothing. called customer service, since there is nothing in the troubleshooting part of the manual about this, unplug and replug, sometimes it comes on after one try, most times it takes about 15. told me they were sorry but i was i was out of warranty. will never purchase another product from them again, not even a light bulb, plus i plan to tell everyone i know not to buy from them. from all the info on the internet, it appears to be a very common problem.

Cannot afford to replace a tv that size this soon. I follow a close budget, with no debt, i plan for unforseen problems, but every financal planner will tell you, tv's should last 8 years min. so that is not in my planning for 3 more years (thats when i would start saving). Like tires last about 40,000 miles, when you get to 30,000 you start to save for the next set, etc. so we our out 1730.00 absolutely incredible that a product could be so bad. i could have rented a tv for less money.

Phillips Ambilight Model # 42PF9631D/37. Model will no longer power on -- Green power light blinks red. Recall has been made on other similar model numbers. Appears to occur at approx the 2 year mark. Have found several other users of the same and similar model numbers having the exact same issue.

TV no longer works.

Well I am joining the ranks of the many individuals on this site who have had their 2 year old Phillips Plasma TV turn [bad] over the holiday. We had been experiencing trouble for the past two months with half the screen turning completely black - sometimes it was the top half and other times the bottom. Yesterday my Dad, who is visiting for the holiday turned it on and got nothing but the infamous red blinking LED. Think we should all file a class action suit - just tell me how to get started. Bought this TV for my husband for Christmas 2006 for $1900 and now it is nothing.

I purchased a 50 plasma hdtv in March 2007. Today (12.28.2008) we were watching tv and the screen went red and there was a pop and then a screeching noise. We turned off the tv, waited and when we turned it back on there was no picture and still the screeching sound. That's when I noticed the huge crack on the inside of the screen. I have also had the same problem as many people have reported about the red blinking light but after awhile the tv has always come back on. I am so upset that $2000.00 I spent under 2 years ago is gone and now I will have to use my income tax money to purchase a new tv. I will contact Philips tomorrow but after reading all these complaints I'm sure it will do no good because the 1 year warranty is over. I'm sad and disgusted and I'm not sure what else I can do about this.

Original purchase 5-14-06. Christmas day 12-25-08 tv took a big giant @#$%. No picture no sound, NADA. Led changes to red and 7 blinks and off. Tech support was useless. I have had several other issues that I thought were software related, firmware upgrades etc. After reading all the complaints I now know that my issues were not software related. Philips knew what the problem was from the get go. As soon as I bought the tv philips recommended an extended warranty. I am glad that I can now be done with Philips in any way shape and form. I am going to make sure that everyone that I know hears how crappy Philips is. Don't even buy a light bulb from Philips.

Bought a 37 Philips Widescreen LCD TV in June of 2006 from Best Buy. It lasted until December 23, 2008. Like many others the TV was turned off normally - then a red blinking light came on where normally a green light is when the TV is on. Philips customer service was kind and friendly saying we needed to download some updates (even though she did not think this would work)we attempted this solution and no it did not work.

Then I started researching this problem a bit more and discovered #1 that the download was never designed to fix anything near my problem just a diversionary tactic #2 that a lot of people experienced the exact same thing around the 2 year mark. We are lucky we went as long as 2 1/2 years. Customer service then said that we would need to have it serviced. Since the initial one year warrenty expired they could do nothing more. We bought a four year (luckily not the two year) service plan from Best Buy. Normally we never bother with it - I guess something made us think ahead. Others have said waiting on parts to fix problem from Philips.

Our initial outlay in 2006 $1950.00. Luckily this included a 4 year service plan thru Best Buy. That we will tackle next week after the post Christmas days. Needless to say an unexpected Christmas time purchase had to be made. Friends and family in town for the holidays and football games to be watched. So far I have only heard good things from Best Buy service plans - keeping my fingers crossed.

Described my problem to the rep.: The set comes on with no display or sound. She asked if it was in warranty and it was not. I bought it 2 years ago at Home Depot. She said I should call my local authorized service agent and provided the telephone number. I called them, they came out and advised that it is most likely one of two boards, the cost of parts and labor $480-580.

We felt we got a good deal on the set at $2000 for a 50 Plasma (50MF237D/37), so we let them take it in for service. The repairman said he hoped to have it back in 7 to 10 days. He advised that Phillips is sometimes slow in providing the boards to them. Having read over these experiences of others I am now apprehensive. The set had a beautiful picture and we enjoyed it everyday for 2 years but now I am wary of throwing good money after bad. `

Looking over the experiences of others on this site I feel that Phillips has deceptive and preditory business practices and should be the subject of a class action lawsuit to recover the damages their customers have sustained and absorb punitive damages such that it will change its policies or cease operations. I do not want to file this suit myself as my situation is still in flux but I feel like I a victim of shoddy manufacturing or engineering and if my situation does not end well then I would be interested in a class action suit- if one is filed.

42 Inch Flat Screen - approximately 12 months after purchasing - sound would go out and 1/2 of the picture would turn red. 18 months of the purchase of this 2K television it will not power on - this is the biggest piece of junk i've ever invested in - it's a shame as it's taking up real estate in my small apartment - no where to go to turn

had to purchase another television so now 3K out of our bank account - this makes us furious

I Bought a 42 inch Phillips Plasma 2 years ago. It won't turn on. The light in the corner goes from green to blinking red. This seems to be a common problem with these televisions. Something should be done about it.

I paid $1500 for this set. I cannot aford to replace after only 2 years.

42 Inch Philips Plasma 42PF9631D/37 Had the TV almost 2 years. Woke up one morning to turn cartoons on for my son. TV clicked on, then red flashing light for 7 times in a sequence. Keeps repeating. Unplugged to no avail. Contacted Philips who said nothing they could do since out of warranty. Did refer us to a repair shop 50 miles away to work on - $150 for them to pickup and look at it. Paid for that -- told us it what a main board, $400 to repair the part. They recieved a part in a week, but said it was defective. So they returned it and have been waiting a month for a new part to surface. We gave up, and asked the repair shop to return the TV.

We bought a new TV - we had too. We were very tired after waiting a month and looking at an old 27 inch Panasonic (that's worked for 10+ years). We bought a new Panasonic -- seems like that company knows how to make TV's. Now, I've got the 42 in Philips sitting in my dining room and I'm unsure of what to do with it. Seems like from what I read there are lots of people having the same issue. I will warn everyone I know to never buy Philips TV's. Bad for them.

I had bout a Philips 50 Plasma TV from COSTCO, it has been givng continuous problems. Last time it failed was about 50 days ago. I complained to COSTCO as it is under warranty. It has taken more than 50 days but COSTCO is unable to get the parts to repair. After 60 days, they said parts have arrived and arranged a repair service but later on it was found that the part was for 42 TV. They re-ordered the component but now I am told, some other part is missing. It looks COSTCO is unable to get the parts and buying time and excuses. I have been requesting them to take back this defective model but there is no response to it.

Unable to use the TV , we had paid nearly $1700 for this TV.

Same complaints as many others have about the plasma 42in televisions. Had the tv 2 years and 9 days and the screen went black and no sound. They should be made to replace these tvs or they should be put out of business. This is simply unfair to the public who spend money on these products.

19 LCD TV purchased in June had a problem w power switch where it would not turn on. Philips replaced this new set w a 1-year warranty with a refurbished set carrying a 90-day limited warranty. This set lasted one hour before having the same problem. Called again and this one was replaced with an older different model that is larger, uses more power and is less responsive...again with a 90-day limited warranty.

Philips tech support would not transfer me to Consumer relations, botched the ticket to send to them, and then when someone finally called back, she got my answering machine. She wouldn't leave a name or callback number and said they've gotten a bad batch of televisions, were replacing them (without cust consent) with these older refurbished models and then said that I should review the waranty because it gives them the right to do this. She then gave the tech support number if I still have questions.

I ended up paying for a new set but ending up with a previous generation that isn't sold anymore. The set is higher, less responsive, and only contains 1 HDMI port so I can't use it for what I intended. In addition, the warranty was abridged to 90-days from the one year. Philips knows this model (19PFL35403D) was defective but is continuing to sell it. Look on their website and they list all the stores where it can be purchased. Their consumer relations is unresponsive, beligerent, and their tech support is inept.

I purchased a Philips 42 plasma TV in August of 2006. November 27, 2008 it quit working; no sound or picture. The warranty was one year. I called Philips and they referred me to a local Philips service center which did not exist. I got a telephone quote from a local TV repair shop. It was $350.00 to $400.00 with $175.00 when I take it in. Who knows what the final bill would have been. I paid $1,500.00 for this TV and it lasted 26 months. Having seen how many other people have had this same problem, I believe there should be a recall or suit.

I will have to replace the TV with a comparable one.

My 51 Plasma TV has stopped working after 19 months. I have contacted the company several times. They say to contact a repairman to come out and take a look at the tv. Every repair service is at least $80-$150 just to come on a service call. We have been told that labor will be $75-$225. This does not even include the parts to fix the TV. With all of the complaints that i have seen on the internet, what will it take to get action and make Magnavox take responsibilty for this faulty TV. I am having the same problems as many of these consumers are having. My TV will not come on and is replaced with a blinking red light. As, consumers we need someone that is willing to help with this problem.

There is no reason for a TV of this caliber to be broken. Having to purchase a new TV or have it repaired at this time of year is not an option for us financially. Please research this problem and help us as consumers to get retribution of some sort from this manufacturer of a faulty product.

I purchased a 52 in. plasma magnavox in 02/07 from sears. i did not have any warranty. I paid the tv off in 05/2008 and two weeks later it died. the tv did not even make it to 18 mos.

Sears is only willing to pay $100 for part, which costs $262 and $150 for labor. After researching your website and others, this is a typical problem with philips/magnavox television's. I feel sears and philips/magnavox should be responsible for making and selling defective tv's.

I bought a Magnavox 37 lcd from Sams club not even two years ago and it takes forever to turn on. I was told by Magnavox that it has to go to a repair center for service, the repair center wants sixty dollars to just look at it and then and then they will estimate the cost of repair.

Poor product. I will not buy another Phillips or Magnavox Tv or any other product they sell ever again.

I bought a 42 in LCD Philips tv model 42PFL7422d/37 just last November 2007 and exactly one year later the picture suddenly went black. All they can tell me is that it's out of warranty. My warranty expired one week ago so I'm very upset they can't do anything about it even after having so many people having the same problem with their Philips Tv. I can't believer it barely lasted a year. I spent over $1000 and still giving payments through Dell.

Now I'm stuck with a broken tv I still have to pay for. I will never buy Philips again.

Phillips 42 Plasma TV, I am having the exact same issue as the person from TX. I checked my set and it is the same model number as hers. With all these complaints why has Phillip's not done something about this. I am afraid to turn my set off. I called the service center this morning , they had heard of this issue, but offered no assistance other than having a service tech come out. Any Advise? I purchased the set 2 years ago as well, it is out of warranty.

I have a 42 inch Philips Plasma TV. I bought 2 years ago. It recently would not turn on . The green on light is replaced by a red light that blinks 7 times then pauses and continues to blink 7 times. I have unplugged the tv to try to reset it. It turned on once and I kept it on for a week. I turned it off and it will not turn on again. I contacted Philips and they referred me to a repair center but I have to wait for someone to come service my tv. Upon reviewing the internet I read that hundreds of consummers have the same problem only after having their tv for only two years. The model # is 42PF9631D/37. If all these consumers are having the same problem Philips should recall the product

Our Philips 42 Plasma TV will not turn on. It has a flashing red light that bleeps 7 times, then it hesitates and starts bleeping 7 times again. My husband bought me that TV less than 2 years ago and now it doesn't work. My husband paid $1,500.00 (sale price) for this lousy TV. He has called the company and I have called the company and we are getting off shore Reps. that we can hardly understand. I had to keep asking him what he said. They referred us both to Best Buy and Circuit City (of which is also going out of business according to the news of late).

Best Buy told us that we had to bring to them over 40 miles from our home and then they would have to send it to Portland which is almost 200 miles away. Then we weren't guarnteed when it would be fixed or returned. So, we called a more local TV Repair shop and they do NOT even work on Philips TV's they said. So, we called another TV RePair shop and the gentleman there said that he wasn't sure what it would cost (after we explained what it was doing) and that we would have to take it to him about 50 miles away. From all of the posts that I have read on Philips/Magnaox we may never be able to even get it fixed, due to people saying that Service Center Reps. are totally back logged on the part that we are in need of from their warehouse.

A TV is still relatively NEW at 2 years old and it shouldn't cost us a dime to get it fixed. Philips should back their product, AND ALSO RECALL THIS FAULTY TV THAT WE BOUGHT FROM THEM.  WHAT ARE WE TO DO NOW?? MAYBE WE SHOULD GO TO THE NEWS MEDIA ABOUT THE PROBLEM. AFTER ALL TV IS NOT SUPPOSE TO BE LIKE A DISPOSABLE LIGHTER!

IT HAS CAUSED US A WHOLE LOT OF STRESS AND WE CANNOT AFFORD (LIKE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE) TO GO OUT AND BUY ANOTHER NEW 42TV SET. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON MODEL# 42PF7220A/37, BECAUSE PHILIPS IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR PRODUCT.

We bought a 51 Philips projection HDTV 3-5-05 for $1074. Less than a month later it was replaced because the picture tube was bad. Maybe that should have been our warning that Philips products aren't reliable. Now, 3 1/2 yrs. later, a repairman estimates the repair cost to replace convergence Ics & change Hv fluid that has algae to be $550-$600. We asked Philips to, at least, share in the repair cost. We're fully aware the warranty has expired but spending $600 to repair a $1074 set after only 3 1/2 yrs. is unacceptable. The life span should be many more yrs. I can't even donate it at this point because no charitable organization wants to put $600 into it.

I e-mailed PhilipsUSA.com, I wrote a letter to Philips Consumer Electronics, Marietta, GA 30006, I faxed info, I've spoke with countless reps. Each time I write down their name, operator #, date, and what was discussed. Their favorite line is we'll get back to you within 48 hrs. They never do and the frustration level becomes overwhelming. I don't think they have to call a board meeting with their members to decide the fate of a consumer complaint!

I think they hope you'll finally give up & go away. Not only does their product stink but their customer service is worse-if that's possible. The repairman said he's had 50 of these same repair issues. If one repairman has had that many, how many more are out there? I asked if there should be a recall. In short, especially in this economy, we can't go out and buy another TV and it's not wise to invest $600 into one that originally cost $1074 only 3 1/2 yrs. ago. We're stuck without a TV and can't even give it away.

We had hoped Philips would, at least, negotiate a remedy with us. Lesson Learned---we'll never buy any Philips product. We nominate Philips for Worst Customer Service provider. The [emotional] damage is frustration and lack of confidence in big business.

I purchased a Magnavox LCD 37 HDTV in Feb. of 2006 from Target in Tallahassee, FL. The model # is: 37MF231D/37. On the morning of October 4, 2008 I turned the TV on and got no picture or sound, only got a blue screen for about 3 seconds each time I attempted to turn it on. I unplugged it from the wall for about 20 minutes, plugged it back in and got the same response. I call Phillips customer care and explained everything. We attempted some routine troubleshooting which I had already done. Then she informed me that the TV was out of warranty. She suggested a repair shop in Atlanta Ga. and said there was nothing else she could do. She gave me a reference # and the conversation ended.

Since that time I have read up on a lot of problems that other consumers who purchased the same or similar LCD TV's from Phillips have experienced. Mostly all of these problems have occurred after the warranty expired and 2 years or less from purchase of the TV's. I feel that there is some type of defect in these types of TV's that Phillips is aware of. I called Phillips again to day to ask to speak with someone in the complaints dept. I spoke with Matt and he informed me that there is no complaint dept where he is, but gave me address.

I took my tv to a repair shop Dothan AL about 30 miles from where I reside. After 3 weeks, I'm being told that the part alone may cost 400.00 not to mention the labor. The tv cost me 700.00 plus tax. It's costing over half what I paid for the tv just to repair it. There's something that just doesn't add up with that.

On April 23, 2006 we bought a 42 Plasma Philips TV (42PF7220A/37) from Costco ($1899.99 + tax). Around August 2006, the TV stopped working: the screen remained black, the on/off LED turned from green to flashing red. Costco took the TV back and we received a new TV, as well as a refund since at that time prices had dropped. Costco's service is second to none.

On October 21, 2008 the Philips 42 plasma TV (42PF7220A/37) stopped working: the screen remained black, the on/off LED turned from green to flashing red. The one-year warranty is over and we are stuck with a dead TV. From forum and complaint websites we understand that this problem is endemic to Philips plasma TV. We now keep calling everywhere with the same results as you can read all over the internet. NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM PHILIPS is the lesson #1.

We got ripped off and lost $1,700 + tax and want our money back or a working TV.

Again, another problem with their 42 inch plasma TV. Product was purchased in October of 2006 along with a 15 inch LCD TV. Last month the 15 inch broke, not worth fixing so I just purchased another TV and did not complain. Now my big plasma will not come on. After researching the internet, I realize they have a big problem with these sets concerning the SSB card failing and causing the TV to go to a blank screen.

They know about the problem and will not fix it. These sets should be recalled and the faulty cards replaced. I will never purchase another Philips product and will warn any consumer I see looking at a Philips product at a store I may be visiting. In addition, I am looking into some type of legal action with our states AG.

Blanca of San Diego, CA October 17, 2008

In Dec. 2006 we bought a 42" Magnavox Plasma TV from Home Depot for $1000.00. In October 2007 (10 month old TV) half of our TV screen started going black. After many phone calls to Magnavox, they finally told us to take it to a repair shop in San Diego. We live 600 miles south of the U.S. in Baja, Mexico, so in November some of our visitors took it to San Diego.

It took over 2 months for the various parts to come in ("on order", "backlogged", "on route") were common statements - really, if they told you up front to wait 3 months, it would be more honest. I offered to pay for the item to be overnighted from anywhere in the world and was told this was impossible. We were counting on friends to bring the TV back, so it was imperative that it get fixed in a timely manner.

Well, it eventually was fixed and returned. Here we are now, October 2008 and I am sure you can guess why I am writing at this time - it's a no brainer. The TV is now erratically going silent and erratically going completely black. And what did the ever so kind customer service woman Nikita tell me this morning? You guessed it Watson -the TV is no longer under warranty.

Will we ever buy a Magnavox/Phillips again ? I think NOT. I read on another comment that Circuit City is no longer carrying the line due to these complaints - I intend to write to Home Depot and Walmart to recommend the same line of action. We would love to participate in a class action suit and intend to file a small claims suit once we are back in the States, asking for full restitution. I cannot imagine why this TV was not recalled and damages fully covered. What is this company thinking? economic damage $1000.00. frustration damage $priceless

I purchased a Phillips 50 plasma tv in Jan. 07. A few months later we noticed the tv would turn off by itself or there was no picture on the screen. After turning the tv back on the picture would return. We thought this may be an issue with our cable box. Then a month ago wenoticed when the tv was turned on we had no sound for a few minutes.

Now this week the tv will not turn on at all. We called Phillips customer service. They told us there are no service centers in our state and they would not cover it anyway since the warranty expired. When you pay $2,300 fora television you expect it to work for more than 18 months. From what we have seen online this is very common with Phillips tvs. DO NOT PURCHASE A PHILLIPS TV!!!

We are out $2,300 for the worthless Phillips we have and however much we spend to get a new tv.

My less then year old 42 HDTV, just out of the blue broke down. The inside panel just cracked from top to bottom and went blank. The only thing I am getting is the buzzing noise like the one you get when a broken speaker. I called in their tech support agency, they set me up with one of the individual repair contractors. The repairing store then informed me it might take up to a month for them to be able to get the TV working. So I called in and asked them if they had any loaner program and the answer was an absolutely rude NO. They are not friendly, nor do they care about their customers. The repairing company also told me it takes them forever to get in touch with them about the replacement parts.

I think it is ridiculous how they treat consumers. The minute you buy their product and walk out the store, you are on your own, because they certainly would not help you with your issues. Their TV was not half bad, quality wise, till it breaks down. Once it is broken, good luck in finding help. I intend to use my newspaper sourse and internet news sourse to let people stay away from their product. At least the high-priced TV's.

No economical damage. But I am left with the reality of missing all of the MLB Playoff (avid fan of baseball and a die hard Dodgers' fan) and 4 weeks of NFL because they do not have a loaner program, and also because it takes them forever to repair their own products. I am emotionally angry on the way how I was treated by their tech support team and strongly dissapointed on how poor their customer support systems is set up. Their advertisement might say We value our customers but the truth is, they do not care about you once you purchased one of their product. After that, you are on your own.

I purchased a 42 Philips Plasma TV on 4/06 model # 42PF9630A/37. On 9/08 the top half and bottom half of the sceen would go out. I purchased the extended warranty plan from Circuit City what a joke they are! I started this claim on September 8th and here we are on October 1st and no resolve. I have called everyday and they tell me the part I need is on back order until 10/26 which is unacceptable to go that long with no t.v.

everytime I call the service center at Circuit City I talk to a different person and they seem to be stalling me until the part comes in or so they don't have to replace my t.v. They act like it is no big deal that you spent thousands of dollars at their store and now they want to weasel out. After getting nowhere with C.C. I decided to call Philips directly and the lady tells me that we are moving parts buildings and the parts have not been scanned into the new warehouse yet! Their is a backorder and there is nothing I can do I don't see were that is my problem at all. I feel I have done everything right and you still get the run around.

I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN A CIRCUIT CITY EVER AGAIN AND NEVER BUY ANYTHING PHILIPS AGAIN POOR PRODUCTS AND INCONSIDERATE AND UNEDUCATED SUPPORT STAFF.

I have the same incidents of parts are on backorder (THEY DO NOT STOCK THEM - IT IS OBVIOUS) and had a DVD/VHS recorder returned to me without any repairs made. Then, I was promised a replacement on my second return - and a month later their 'Customer Service' so-called Supervisor cannot even find my records. I HAVE ALL THE PROPER NUMBERS--. I have contacted a couple of attorneys to evaluate if one can file a Class-Action suit against Philips. From what I read on this site alone, they are defrauding their customers - and think nothing about giving everyone the 'run-around' .

This sort of behavior on the part of an International age-old firm is not acceptable. Other than being out the last unit returned (they can't trace it,, but I have Fedex delivery confirmation---)I have spent an immense amount of hours just getting to talk to someone at Philips. My time is valuable and normal consumer relations do not demand these expenditures on the part of the customers.

My Phillips 42 in high def plasma television would not turn on. I tried turning it off and on to reset it. It still wouldn't work. I contacted the company regarding my issue, as I only have had the television for 2 years 4 months at the time that it broke. The company told me too bad that it was out of warranty.

Upon conducting further research on the internet, I have discovered that the tv not turning on is a recurrent issue with the Phillips Plasma 42 inch that I have. I also contacted Circuit City regarding my issue. They informed me that they no longer sell Phillips televisions because of poor customer satisfaction and issues with the televisions. We took the television to a repair shop and received an estimate of $550 to fix the two panels that need repaired. That was approximately two months ago. The repair shop is unable to repair our television because Phillips has the repair parts on back order with no estimated date of part availability.

We have been without our televison for approximately two months. Based upon the internet research results and the unavailbility of the parts, it would look as if Phillips has less than par televisions and no regard for those people who paid $2700 for a television that lasted shortly over two years. In the mean time we are watching our son's 19 inch from his bedroom.

Was told I would have to pay for a tv that has been recalled, model 42pf9630A/37 However the serial number is NOT within the numbers they have recalled, but this set did the exact same thing...make noise, shut off, then 7 blinking lights.

This set cost nearly $3,000.00 dollars and to be informed the serial number is not in the group is unacceptable when the set did exactly what the recalled sets did with the exact model number. Their serial numbers should be expanded to cover ALL serial numbers of that particular model tv. It's only fair to the consumers.

I bought a 50'Plasma telvesion a little over a year ago. There has been a consistent menu settings problem. Whenever you are watching TV it would pop up. This occur as frequently as every 10 seconds. I called Philips to have it repaired we were given a company called Al Boro TV who came to the house did a repair however it was not completed. Later we were told they would have to take the TV out of the house to change a defective board the same problem occured after.

We the called philips who gave us another company J and J TV clinic who took the televioson ut of the house for a week and a half. The television has stopped working all together. I believe enough money was spent on this television and they need to do something about repair. We do not have the money to purchase a new television.

I purchased a 42 (model #42pf9630A/37) philips plasma tv in May 2006. In july 2008 the tv would not turn on and a red blinking light appeared in the bottom corner of the display. I called philips and they referred me to a local tv service center. They came and picked-up my tv on 8/4. 1 week later they contacted me to tell me my tv needed a new y-board--a $550 repair. They said the part should take about 10 bus days to arrive. 3 weeks later--I still didn't have my tv.

I contacted the repair center and was informed that they were unable to get the part--it was on back order. They suggested that I call philips directly and complain. When I called philips they informed me that the part was on backorder--with no expected date of arrival. I was told to wait 2 more weeks (6 weeks from the initial part order date) for the part to arrive--and then philips would make a decision regarding replacement of my tv.

I called the repair shop back yesterday (Sept 26, 2008) and was told the part still had not arrived. I then called philips and was told that since my tv was out of warranty--they wouldn't do anything about it. I then spoke with a supervisor--Timothy--who confirmed this. He said I just needed to wait for the part to arrive. I asked him what happens if the part doesn't come in, he informed me that since I'm out of warranty--there's nothing they can do. He suggested I have the repair center fix the original part. I informed him that the repair center that they originally referred me to would not/could not repair the part. He offered to refer me somewhere else.

I explained that I already had to pay them $125 just to pick-up and diagnose my problem--I'll have to pay another $50 to have it put back together and returned to me. He then just recommended that I wait for the part to arrive.

I can't belive how horrible the custmer service was that I received from philips and the repair center. The tv repair company has basically said their hands are tied--thy can't fix the part and they won't use a reclaimed part.

I purchased a 50 Plasma flat HDTV Model # 50PFP5332D/37B on April 28, 2008. On, August 7, 2008 the TV stopped working. I called Tech support at Philips for repairs on my TV on Aug 7, 2008. I was given a contact number for a local service center. I called and made an appointment for a technician to look at the TV and diagnose the problem with the TV.

The local service center sent a technician on Aug 11, 2008. He diagnosed a problem with power supply for the TV. He told me that he will order the power supply. He placed the order on August 15th, 2008. The part was sent to the technician on August 24, 2008. The technician called me to come install. When, the technician came he found out that it was a wrong part. He told me that Philips does that a lot.

I am very disappointed in Philips products with the slow service on your products. I will probably never again buy any Philips products in the future or recommend to anyone. I am looking at the option of getting my money refunded by Philips for the TV or will be filing a small claims suit at the local court for the damages and waste of my time.

I have guest at my home the TV (waste) is hanging on the wall taking up the space. I have lost approximately $1500.

Bought a flat screen LCD TV in March of 2008. Everything as fine until May 2008 (3 months). it wouldn't turn on. The blue light would turn to red and then start blinking. No picture and no sound.

Called phillips they gave me the phone numbers to repair services. All of which were an hour away or more. We finally found one that would come to the house. They cancelled the service call saying the part was not in and they would call us when it came in. I waited about 2 weeks and called the repair service. The part still wasn't in and they was no ETA on it. I called phillips back to complain.

It took about 2 weeks of back and forth phone calls when they finally agreed to send me a new TV. They would not refund my money. The new TV took about 10 days to be delivered, but guess what? The ususal one year warranty is crossed off and it says extended 90 day warranty. That isn't even the full year that I would have had on the original. I will never purchase from phillips again.

We purchased a 42 Plasma t.v. in 2006. Now, two years later, several of the circuit boards have gone out. It started with intermittent loss of picture (black) on the lower half of the screen, then total loss of picture/ picture and no sound. Now the picture on the screen is very distorted.

We initally thought it was a problem with the cable, and had several cable technicians out to diagnose the problem. The last cable guy that came out recogniged the problem right away and said that he had other customers with the same problem. I then contacted Philips through the number on their web site for help. We paid a lot of money for this t.v. in 2006 and feel that it should last more than 2 years, and that we shouldn't have to pay for an extended warranty. If the company can't produce products that last more than two years, there is something very wrong, and they shouldn't be able to prey on/cheat consumers out of their hard earned money. The Customer Service Rep referred me to a local repair shop.

The repairs, if we choose to have them done are going to cost $675.00, but the parts are on back order, so even if we do go ahead with the repairs, we will be without our t.v. for several weeks or even months.

Had a Magnavox Phillips Plasma TV purchased 1 1/2 years ago and the picture screen disappeared one morning when turing on. Spoke with a CSR in May I voiced my complaint and was given a reference number in late June early July. after about a month of back and forth conversation trying to get an answer on how the item would be warrentied they called Aug 7 2008 and stated it was almost 2 yrs old and there was no luck for it to be covered under warrenty.

I spent over 1500.00 for a TV to last 1 1/2 yrs. That is alot of money and then to offer no help to consumer when Magnavox made CSR Bob told me that they where aware of the issue with the TV but they would not cover the issue under warrenty and that there was not he could do for me other then offer the corporate address.

I spent a total of $5,000.00 on my PHILLIPS 50 inch plasma tv (inc the service plan/warranty/suround sound) at MAGNOLIA CENTER at BEST BUY in Manchester NH only 1 1/2yrs ago. The screen does not turn on. I was told next service day available is in NINE DAYS, it will take 15 mins to dx the problem and even longer to order the parts... AND I have to take min of 3 hours or the day off (w/out pay) to be available, at their convenience, during their time frame... That is a long time time to go w/out something that is so expensive! not to mention is already broken.

They dont mention the fact that the costly service plan includes only certain hrs of operation, you'll need to take time off from work and may take weeks before you can use your costly equipment again when you're handing your money over, oh, no... I am highly disgusted and angry! I will be writing the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU.... and ATTNY GENERAL OFFICE if necessary.

Buying major appliances like TVs is a decision based on customer's perceived image of the brand and prior experience of service, Some brands like philips are so well established in Indian psyche that lack of quality or service over years hardly appears to erode their image. It requires consistent disregard for the brand name to accomplish it as my experience with my 21 Philips TV-20PT1782- I bought some time ago, shows.

From the beginning, It had consistent problems with psychedelic colors on screen repeatedly. It was fixed free of charge several times, during warranty period . Subsequently over the years I paid about 25 percent of the cost of TV periodically to get rid of the problem almost like a health insurance premium. Recently the authorized service centre said the tube had to be replaced at about 5000 rupees!

I wanted to give Philips an opportunity to redeem their quality and service image and brand loyalty of customers. Which could have been easily redeemed, the price of a brand new TV of the same size is only about 7000, 50 percent less than what I paid for it. I have had Indian companies like Bajaj, Wipro and even ebay dealers jump at the opportunity I offered, for items years later. They perceived it as an opportunity to regain customer confidence.

I am appalled that Philips despite repeated complaints to their highest level do not seem to be bothered about the product performance, service quality or maitaining loyal customer relations. Under the circumstances, May be the all potential and present philips customers should get beware and brand hop in search of better products and service?

I have to invest in a new TV

I bought a Philips 27 tube tv for about $250 in July 2006. In March 2008 picure began rolling over, folding over on top of itself. I have seen this problem before: I had a Zenith 32 tube tv that did the same thing but 14 years after the day of purchase. I feel for the people spending the big money for one of these tv's. E-mailed them, called them - hung up on the first time. Same night called them- you have to continually give them the same info; model, serial numbers, etc. You can not reply directly to their e-mails. Reply E-mails will not go through.

Called repair shop they(Philips)recommended. The sevice center was very familiar with the remedies in which Philips recommened to fix the problem(unplugging the tv from the wall 15 to 20 seconds, changing screen format, etc.). People there is a problem here!

I like everyone else in the enitre tv viewing audience(Earth)would expect a tv to last more than 1 or 2 years no matter how much you paid.  I purchased a 20 Zenith in 1991, ten years later I had to repair it. I purchased a Zentih 32 in 1994 and never had it repaired. In 2007 as I described earlier the picture began rolling/folding over on top of itself and then days later a small pop and them smell of burnt components. Has anyone tried the US Attorney General?

We purchased this set three years ago and the screen went black (with red/green waves in various places). Sound and tuner seem to work fine, no access to menu or any other function. Off warranty now, sent to repair, cost estimate is $500, with part availability being 6 weeks out. Will never purchase another Philips product.

Hopefully the repair charge. We won't know if it will happen again.

I had just got home from Iraq and wanted a big-screen TV. I went over to AAFES (PX) and we decided to go with a 1300 Philips 42 Plasma. Before making the purchase, my wife asked the helper is she knew of any problems with Plasmas. She said just don't watch 8 hours of TV a day or it'll burn out. That was Feb 1, 2008.

Fast forward to tonight, June 30, 2008. Watching an old hockey game and BLAM....volume and sound OK, but black flickering screen. Since I am in the army and i am always training, I am NEVER home to watch TV more than 2 hours a night. I called Philips and the guy said he never heard of my problem before. So now I have to cancel a planned vacation so the repair guy can come. It'll be in v ain, however, because the TV is going back for a full refund and a new LCD.

Never buy a Plasma. Period.

My husband and I decided to purchase a 37 Magnavox LCD TV as a Christmas present to each other. I went to Target on Black Friday (Nov. 2006) and purchased it for over $800 +tax. We were very happy with our purchase until Dec. 2007 when we noticed that the TV would take longer to turn on.

Eventually a few days later the TV wouldn't turn on at all!! The green light would come on for a second, start blinking red and then stop. No picture, no sound, no TV. Of course the warranty was only for one year and that just expired. We contacted a Phillips rep and they said that there wasn't anything they could do because I didn't purchase the extended warranty.(Aren't TVs suppose to last at least 3-4 years?) They gave me some numbers to a few service centers (all of them out of state) and said that we would have to go through them for a diagnosis and repair.

The fee was $100.00 to just look at the TV and they couldn't give me an idea of what it would cost. We didn't have the money so our TV sat there. I called a few more times to see if I could get a different result with another Rep...NOPE..different person same crap. Every day my husband would press the ON button in hopes that it would turn on but to no avail.

About a month later(end of Jan 2008) he pressed the button and it turn on. He turned it off and it pressed the button and it turned on again. We were watching TV for a few days until no picture, no sound, no TV.

Again we went without a TV for about two months with him trying to turn it on every day until it happened again...Luck of the button...that TV was on again(March 2008). We were so happy that it turned on - we haven't turned it off-AT ALL. Our TV has been on since March 2008 and now it is the end of June 2008. It's an Energy Star product do our electric bill hasn't gone up that much but I'm really upset.  I've told all my family and friends about my experience with Phillips/Magnavox and told them....BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paying over $800.00 for a TV that barely lasted over the year warranty and a company not standing behind their product doesn't make any sense. Having to keep our TV on and running up our electric bill is really ridiculous. I'm just really upset about this whole situation.

Less than two years ago I purchased a Magnavox television set from circuit city. After the first year the picture quality became distorted. There are huge lines on the top of the tv that make it impossible to enjoy the picture. I have continuously complained to the manufacturer regarding this product. I was told each and every time that the product was out of warranty and that there was nothing that they could do. I want to respectfully point out that the average life span of a television set is between 5-10 years. I have not achieved a third of the average life span with this product.

I find it unacceptable and deplorable that this company can get aways with selling honest consumers defective products. The company should be accountable for their actions and correct the problem that I have experienced. Currently, they have no plans to correct the situation, which is why I am filing a complaint. It is not only my hope that my issue gets resolved but other honest hardworking consumers are made aware of the company's questionable and in my opinion unethical practices.

I spent a small fortune on this television set. It is unsettling in these harsh economic times that a company can get away with selling defective products to honest hardworking consumers.

I purchased a Phillips 55 HDTV on sale for $1,400. from Sears in 12/2004. Exactly 13 months later 2/05 the TV died. It was one month out of warranty. The screen went black, the TV would not come on, and the on/off button made a constant click-click noise. I was disgusted with this situation because the GE set I replaced lasted 10 years and this TV was a year old and DEAD! Plus, I did not purchase the extended warranty and knew I was in for a fight to get any help.

As expected, Sears said, it's out of warranty and referred me to Phillips who said it's out of warranty, who referred me to a local repair shop. After describing the problem over the phone I was given an estimate. I did not have the extra money to get this TV repaired. The TV sat -- a black whole in the middle of my family room. Finally, in 2006 I called Sears to come out so that I could at least find out what was wrong with the set. They said I needed a new PCB Deflection and the repair would cost $503.28. I called Phillips to complain and to get some sort of restitution. I was bounced around to a chorus of you're out of warranty. I kept pushing the point that the TV was only 1 year old when it died, but they did not care.

I wrote a letter and kept making phone calls. I finally spoke to a gentleman who listened, but in the end offered no assistance. I received a letter thanking me for bringing the matter to our attention. The TV continued to sit and I still had no money for this repair. I was tempted many times to sit it on the street! The TV sat until April 2008 when I finally had extra money. I have just paid $525.00 for the repair on 4/19 to a local repair shop. On 5/18 the screen went black and the TV turned itself off. I turned it on and the on/off button lit up for about 1 minute before going off again. I did this several times. The TV never powered up and came on.

THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK! I have called the local shop back and don't know what's going to happen now. Based on what I'm reading, I may just be out of $2,000 for a TV that I have not really had an opportunity to enjoy. I do not plan to put another cent into this TV. What I do know is that I will never buy another Phillips product and will tell others not to.

I bought a 21 Magnavox LCD TV 4 months ago that went haywire, turning off whenever I switched channels. I called the 800-number on a Saturday morning, was immediately connected with a nice American who gathered the information and very efficiently resolved the situation. I received a replacement within a week, and they covered the cost of shipping back the original one back, which I didn't have to do before I received the replacement.

As a result, I'm now a huge fan of Magnavox. As more and more companies move customer service off-shore and devise ever more cumbersome rules for weasling out of backing up their products, it is refreshing to be treated so well.

I purchased a 50 Philips Plasma Television, model no. 50PF9630A/37 on 5/5/06. The television all of a sudden got a horizontal black strip on roughly 3/15/08 going down the right side of the TV which prevented you from comfortably watching it.

I contacted Philips and after speaking with 3 supposed customer care representatives I was referred to a local electronics repar firm, D&L Electronics. This company said that there was a possibility that a simple part would be able to repair my TV but after they received the wrong part on two occasions I have now been advised as of 4/21/08 that my television can not be repaired without potentially blowing up the whole panel and that Philips will do nothing to resolve the situation.

I contacted Philips to share my discontent for their product and spoke with Alicia who said there was nothing she could do but forward my information to Consumer Relations. I asked to speak to a Supervisor who also said there is nothing he could do but ask me to wait to speak to Consumer Relations. I provided them every telephone number I had to ensure that the Consumer Relations department could reach me directly but instead Jeff, from Consumer Relations contacted me at home and left a message saying there was nothing Philips could do since the product was out of warranty.

Every television I have had prior to this one, I have had for over 10 years with no problem. I now spend $3,000.00 on a supposed state of the art television and all Philips can say is sorry, you are out of warranty. The service provided by Philips during this ordeal was nothing short of repulsive. I waited 7 weeks to basically be told we do not stand behind our product. I will never again purchase any Philips product of any kind and will tell everyone I know to do the same.

I am now out $3,000 for the purchase of the television and potentially another $2,000 - $3,000 that I will have to pay for a new television to replace the crappy Philips product.

I purchased a plasma tv back in 10/2005 ($2,700). About 6 months later, the plasma broke. After about 3 weeks, Philips agreed to honor the warranty and fix the plasma and assured me that I should no longer experience any problems. Also, they offered to extend the warranty since it broke so soon. However, about a month ago, my tv broke again. It has been a little over 2 years.

When I contacted Philips, they made me look like a liar and claim that I made the whole thing up. They refuse to help and say that I am no longer their problem since the 1 year manufacturer warranty ran out.

Because I used my american express to make that purchase, they automatically doubled my warranty. However, Philips denies the fact that they extended the warranty when my tv broke 6 months after original purchase date. So as of now, my tv has been broken for about a month and Philips refuses to help.

I bought a portable DVD player for my son for Christmas. Imagine our surprise when it did not work. Things got worse when Walmart would not take it back. I had to mail it back to the company (at my expense) on 1/3/08 and as of 2/25/08 have not heard from them. I called today and they said they are mailing me a new product, but I would have to wait 10 to 15 more business days. Can anyone explain to me why it would take them another month to drop an item in the mail?! The lady with a foreign accent could not explain anything to me and kept reading from her script. No more Phillips products for us. I am sticking with Sony.

So, just after a year of ownership, my TV all of a sudden goes black and white. It will stay in color only until I change the channel or access my satellite menu. Then it goes black and white. I call Magnavox (us support) they direct me to Skyway Electronics in St. Catharines for out of warranty repair. I demand warranty repair; they tell me to call ElectroTek, their Canadian Sales Support folks, so I do. After speaking with them, I get in warranty repair (thankfully). So I am happy.

All SHOULD be well, BUT IT ISN'T! This Chris kid has had my TV in there for 2 freaking months and fails to return my phone calls EVER! Just tells me in an accent, "TV part is on backorder, nothing can do. I call them in morning and find out then call you back." Every time I call, I get the exact same canned statement! AND HE NEVER CALLS ME BACK, EVER! I have since called Electrotek AGAIN and am asking them to take ownership and find out what is going on here. I am still without my $1500  television AND WANT IT BACK NOW!

I am frustrated beyond all belief. I normally do not rant on websites about companies, but this is rediculous! People have what they believe to be horror stories, and they are minor. AT LEAST YOU HAVE YOUR FRIGGIN TV BACK! I am NEVER going to Skyway Electronics for ANYTHING and I am NEVER buying a Magnavox OR Philips product AGAIN! I URGE YOU TO RECONSIDER IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT ONE AND ARE WITHIN YOUR RETURN PERIOD OR IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY ONE IN THE FUTURE, DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GONG SHOW OF A COMPANY! PERIOD! I will be demanding either money back IN FULL or a replacement new model television of equal or better value than my product at the time of my purchasing it, not current value, because companies will SCAM you that way too. MAGNAVOX SUCKS ROYAL POOH! DO NOT INVEST YOUR VALUED MONEY AND PATIENCE INTO THEIR COMPANY FOR ANYTHING!

Through partnership with Fidelity Investments Corporate Perks Program and Philips Electronics, I purchased a Philips 50 Pixel Plus Plasma Flat HDTV on 08/17/2007. I, unfortunately, did not purchase with it the extended warranty, but am willing and able to assume all costs associated with the HDTV's repair. The HDTV has been out-of-service since 12/13/07 due to a faulty board, and a Service Ticket was opened as of 12/13/07. We were referred by Philips Customer Support Services to a local Philips Service provider: Stereo Components, Boston MA (617-277-4600) for repair of the HDTV. The service provider has been unsuccessful in repairing the HDTV due to alleged incorrect and/or faulty replacement parts by Philips Electronics. Stereo Components requested an RA Replacement Review with Philips Customer Support Services on 1/24/08. My husband contacted Philips on 2/1/08 and was told by the Philips Customer Support Rep to provide a proof-of-purchase and open a Concession Request with Philips. I personally faxed the materials to Philips Attn: CON REQ on 2/1/08.

Philips Customer Support stated that it would take 3-5 business days for a decision regarding next steps e.g., repair, replace, refund for the HDTV. Today, 2/8/08 we were told by Philips Concession Request Department that the Concession Request was denied as the concession request should have been opened on the day the original ticket was opened: 12/13/07. Unfortunately, we had no awareness of this policy and were not instructed to do so by Philips Customer Support and feel a bit at a loss for what to do other than initiate legal proceedings. I'm looking for your guidance as to what our next steps should be to have our HDTV repaired or replaced and returned. I feel that we're being victimized by Philips process/policy for which we had no awareness of and were simply following, in good faith, the instructions provided to us by Philips Customer Support.

I have a 15 month old product that is being reported as unrepairable by the company without a statement that states that the product is at the end of its product life cycle. Therefore, I'm looking for a repair option. I am out $1900.00 for the cost of the TV, $160.00 for the cost of the initial repair delivery and $400.00 for the purchase of a replacement TV.

While moving my 5 month old 37 Magnavox LCD TV, the display screen cracked. No where in the product information or user manual does it tell you how fragile these screens are or what the proper way is to lift and move these televisions. Magnavox claims this was customer abuse, although I did nothing more than move the TV.

The result is that although parts are still under warranty, the damage is not covered so I am out some $700.00. If I had known how fragile the screen was I would have made sure that I handled it properly.

I purchased a Philips TV model 27PT543S37A in May, 2003. A few months after the warranty expired, I started having problems powering up the TV. About 1.5 years ago, I started having problems with the display. Once I was finally able to turn the TV on and then it would shut off again. Each time I turned it on again, the display would be a tad bit bigger and the TV would stay on a 1 or 2 seconds longer. In order to get the picture display to stay on, I had to repeat the process at least 25 to 30 times before I could sit and watch without it shutting off again. The problem continually got worse and much more frustrating. After a few months, I had to start leaving the TV on all day and all night to keep from having to repeat this process. Someone made a mistake and shut the TV off, then I would have to repeat the powering up process again until I was able to view a full picture display without the power shutting off. About 6 months ago, the TV stopped working all together. There seems to be a buzzing sound that is coming from the tv even when the power is on or off. In order to get rid of the buzzing sound, I had to unplug the power cord from the wall.

As a result of having to keep the tv turned on all day and night, I experienced a significant increase in my pg&e bill. I was not able to have the tv repaired because I don't have the funds to do so.

I purchased a PHILIPS 50PF9731D/37 TV 13 months ago, and it developed a horizontal line through the middle of the picture. I paid over $3000.00 with expectations of lasting enjoyment from this TV. Philips just tells me they are sorry, that it is a month over warranty. I will never, ever purchase another Philips product again whether it be an iron, shaver or blender.

In May 2006 I bought a 32 LCD Flat Screen. Dec. 2007 the screen went black with no sound. I can't believe that I bought this TV, and a little over a year went by and the TV does not work. I hate this TV and should have never bought it. Circuit City said that we had to contact Magnavox, and they are rude and not willing to help. I am even more surprised that so many people are encountering the same problems/issues w/ most (if not all) of the Philips/Magnavox TV's. To think that Philips/Magnavox was a trusted, well known name brand....I am sure that is soon to change.

I purchased 20 inch HDTV/DVD combo, brand new. When it broke down while still on full warranty, I was told I would receive a new replacement. They shipped me a refurbished item, a different and cheaper model with smaller screen and no return shipping label as they promised. When I called again they claimed that this is their policy and that they consider it to be an equivalent replacement. I am still negotiating this act of theft with the company, but seem to be getting nowhere. I'd be better off buying a refurbished model from ebay for 1/3 price I paid for a brand new item. My experience with Philips/Magnavox has been unprofessional and dishonest on their part.

I have a faulty television: a 52 inch Phillips. I purchased it in January 2005 and already the picture is distorted, and my 2 children are unable to play their games. (Model # is 51PP9303H17 Serial # is YA1B0435001037.) I just finished paying it off, and now on Christmas Day this TV is distorted. My  9- and 11-year-old children have a problem reading the letters, and now they can't play their Wii game. What can you do about this? I work at Wal-Mart, so I don't have a lot of money, and my children's eyes can be affected. I worked very hard for this TV; it's all we have.

We bought a Philips tube TV for $300 from Best Buy. Ninety days later, in October, the picture started to make an hour glass shape. Philips at first tried to send us to a town over 45 minutes away to get the unit fixed. When we called the TV repair shop they said they were 2-3 weeks backlogged and couldn't take anymore repairs for now. So we called back Philips, and they sent us--amazingly--to another repair store 5 minutes away. Wonder why that couldn't have happened earlier? We dropped the TV off. That was October; it is now December. Nobody at the TV repair shop is helpful; they basically say it can't be fixed, and they have a request into Philips to replace the TV. They claim Philips is too hard to work with. When I call Philips, they say that they have no record of the request and promise another call back with status in 2-3 business days. I don't know what to do now.

We have a tiny little TV in our living room that we can watch, but we can't play our video games or see the picture very well. It's really frustrating that the TV repair shop has had the TV for longer than we did, and I hate calling Philips. Nobody has voice mail, there is no number for their corporate offices, they won't email. It's really sad that a company like this can get away with ripping people off. $300 is a lot of money to my family.

We purchased a Phillips 20 LCD TV. After 9 months it would just go black. I purchased it from Sam's Club and purchased the 3 year warranty, We called and found out we had to send it to Phillips. It cost $35.00 to ship. They sent us a refurbished one. It had lines all through the picture and no color. We were told to send it back, costing again $35.00. We contacted the BBB and they finally paid for the shipping. We now have a third one which goes black after a little use. We bought them less than 2 years ago.

Purchased 42 Phillips plasma from Sam's Club on 01/28/04 for $2,250.00. It went out in 2 weeks and had to be serviced. Now 3 years later it goes out again with a red blinking led light. Called Phillips they gave me a service center in my area. Took TV in to find out that it is garbage and for $1300.00 they can't even guarantee it will work. The service man told me to buy a new one. He said, that the inside was all burnt up from the heat. I then called Phillip's to get I'm sorry buy a new one.

I purchased a PHILIPS PLASMA TV Model Number 50PF9630A/37, in March 2006. The features and picture seemed great until December 2006. No picture. I had purchased a 4-year service contract from Best Buy and the total of the TV and service plan was over $5,000.00.

I called Best Buy. They told me I needed to call PHILIPS because it was still under warranty from them. I called 9 different times and had been told finally to call a repair shop in the city which I live. We had the TV mounted 8ft high on a wall. Because we had Best Buy mounting device the repair shop assigned by Philips would not take it down. My son and husband had to take it down. Very difficult to do.

Five months later, I still don't have my TV. Waiting for parts. I could have walked to Mexico and back in the 5 months it has taken Philips to send parts.

I purchased a Philips 37pf9631d/37 LCD tv, in late July 2006. The tv stopped working on 03/20/07. When powering the tv on the power on LED turns Green for a second then is followed up with 6 red LED blinks (with no picture). A local repair service came and took the set away 03/21/07 and ordered a part from Philips on 03/23/07. The repair service checked with Philips on 04/04/07 and was told that the part was being shipped now.

This tv cost almost $2,000 and Philips doesn't not seem to care about customer satisfaction. Their products seem to have a high failure rate and replacement parts take a long time to be shipped. Meanwhile, I still pay my cable bill with no tv watch.

I bought a Philips 42 plasma right after Christmas 2005. It made it 10 months before it blew up. Sound but lines across with distortion. Tv repairman said they have to replace everything but the plastic frame! I guess I'm lucky it lasted that long according to the reading I've done since! Now I'm in battle with Customer service. After waiting the 3 week period I contacted them to check status. They tried to say I had to wait another 3-4 weeks for parts availability.

After considerable fighting I was able to speak to a Supervisor who litteraly read from the same script as the person I had just fought with! I LOST IT. That was as far as I got. They will not give out customer complain or customer relations phone numbers! You have no recourse. STONE WALL!!!!. I must wait for them to decide what they will do and contact me.

No TV for over a month with no end in sight. Still paying HDTV and Satellite bills!

My Costco, 42" Philips HDTV completely failed after a few months of owning it. Service Techs were out the next day and picked it up for repair. That was 2 months ago. Since that time, I have had numerous contacts with the Contracted Service Group? They explained that this was a high failure part and there was a 4 to 6 week backlog. This was all the good news. I contacted the Service Group after 4 weeks. I was told that the part was still not showing an ETA. I got the order number and the part number from the Tech and called Philips. FOUR reference numbers and several weeks later of being told that the past was IN STOCK and that the Service Group needed to reorder this part.

The Service Group themselves were having problems and advised me to go to the Philips Customer Relations Department before the Manufactures Warranty ran out! I am currently seeking a new HDTV but I am not holding my breath on this one. This HDTV has gone from Excellent Review to Enormous Complaints. I will not buy Philips / Magnavox again and recommend that you do not either or this can happen to you. Or you too might be out $2000.

I will be out $2000.00 if the HDTV is not repaired and Philips does not stand behind their product beofre the Warranty runs out.

The parts that were delivered were the wrong parts. They had to be re-ordered- another 20 day wait! The parts came in- defective. Finally, after revieint the situation for a few more days, they agreed to replace the TV-but I have to wait 15 business days for TV to be shipped. Called today- the form for shipment was put in incorrectly- now I have to wait another 15 business days. I have bever seen such incompetence in my life !! I've been without the set for 10 weeks. Purchased a 42 Philips Plasma TV from Costco TODAY and when got it home, started watching it and the menu screen popped-up continuously. Went to the Philips Web Site and downloaded a software update for my model, put it on my thumb drive and followed the instructions, my TV said it could not locate any software. Called Philips and they advised me to do what I did and I told them I tried that already, they said they could give me a number for a repair center and I'm like - WHAT? I just paid 1500.00 for this TV TODAY and you're telling me I need to take it to a repair center?!? I told them, how about I just take it back, exchange it for a reliable brand and NEVER buy one of your products again!

On 2-4-06 we purchased a Philips 51 inch tv. Approx. 3-27-06 we began having problems. TV would turn itself off when we were changing channels. Called Philips and they referred us to Melody TV in Oakley. They called after looking at it and said it needed a small signal board. Ordered 4-7-06 but part was backordered and didn't know when they would get it. Tried to get refund at Circuit City where we purchased it, and they said no refunds after 30 days. Called Philips saying I wanted refund & they referred me to complaint dept. Someone would call me in 5-10 business days. I called Philips back 5-10-06 requesting refund but they had already approved a replacement tv.

Spoke with Tracy who said refund wasn't an option and would ship new tv to Melody's 15-20 business days. Mid June received new tv. Approx. 2 months later same thing happened again. Called Philips requesting refund. They referred me back to Melody TV, couldn't give refund and part was backordered. On 9-11-06 called Philips and part was still backordered. They said they would have consumer complaints call me in 3-4 days. On 9-12-06 Philips called and said they had received part & would ship to Melody's. Received tv back 10-14-06. 10-21-06 tv began doing same thing again & has done it 3 more times since. Phoned Philips 10-24-06 again requesting refund. They will not refund and referred me back to Melody TV.

I am now convinced there is no way to get a refund on a piece of junk we paid $1300.00 for. I know I will never purchase another Philips product again.

I purchase a Philips 42 inch plasma in Jan, 2006. After about three months of use, I started seeing an issue that after around 10 minutes of the tv being on, it would shut itself off. If I turned the TV off and let it set for a couple hours it would work again for about twenty minutes and go blank as did previously. I call Philips, they put me in touch with a local company called Dependable Electronics (funny). Anyway, they trouble shooted over the phone and have ordered a part with Philips. This part is back logged with no ETA to ship. So now I have a 2,000 tv that doesn't work and no ETA to be fixed. I called to escalate with Philips, but their computer system was down.

I bought a Philips 27 flat screen TV on May 2004. Just two years later, I can't get the power to come on. The tv is completely dead. Obviously a power supply problem and of course the warranty is over. I read that other people have had the same problem. The frustrating thing is that I paid about $300 for this name brand TV that I thought was built by a reputable company. The last thing I expected to be replacing is a TV that I bought 2 years ago. I would even expect that with a no name brand company. I'm going to take it to a tech. If it is about $200 to repair then they can keep it. Needless to say I will not purchase aother Philips Magnavox anything.

My wife and I bought a 26 Philips tv for Christmas 2005. We had the tv for less than 3 months before the problem. When we turned on the tv it would only have a black screen but we could hear the audio. Using the 1 year warranty I called Philips and was told to go to an approved service center, All Points Video. I actually had them come to the house to repair the tv. It did not take and I was unhappy with the serviceman that come to the house. I was told that since I had the tv repaired by All Points that I would HAVE TO continue with them. Even when I told them I did not want them working on the tv Philips informed me that was just too bad.

I dropped the tv off 6-20-06 and was told the part was ordered 6-22-06. Today is 8-5-06 and I have talked to, screamed at and begged for some answers about this back ordered part. Repeatedly I have been told that there is nothing we can do, you will have to wait and the ETA is 7-28-06. When I called 7-28-06 to ask for a tracking # I was told that was no ETA available. I have been escalated to customer relations twice and each time I am told a phone call will be placed to me in 5-7 days. At this point my hands are tied and under no circumstances will I ever buy a Philips product for myself or anyone else. Even if I recieve one as a gift I will return it.

We purchased a 42 inch plasma in December of 2005 due to a sale. We were in the process of having a new home built so we stored the TV for three months (never took out of box) until completion. When I turned the TV on the picture worked for about 20 minutes and blanked out to (never worked) black/nothing. If you turned the TV off and let it set for a couple hours it would work again for about twenty minutes and go blank as did previously. It was out of the return time period from the dealer but still under manufacture’s warranty. I contacted Philips and was told to take it to a certified Philips Repair Shop, which we did….Ables Video Repair.

The TV has been in the repair shop for over 130 days. I have 6 case numbers with Philips and have been told 3 different dead lines. I was told at each deadline if the TV was not repairable I would receive a full refund which has not happened I have been told the part is backorder, unavailable, in low reserve, needs approval, wrong part ordered, substitute part not available and many more unacceptable situations. We paid over $2200.00 for this TV and still have not even been able to watch a complete show. Now it sits at the repair shop with out any hope. This situation astonishes me in how a consumer can be mentally abused and stressed to the max without any consequences. Isn’t there any kind of law that protects me! When speaking with the repair shop I found out this is a very common problem with Philips.

I have lost over 10 hours on the phone if not more, sleep, over stressed!!!, fights with my fiancés and $2200.00 (still don’t have my TV). I would do almost anything to prevent this from happening to another consumer.

I recently bought a 42 inch Philips plasma TV after doing much research and decided to by Philips because of its picture quality. I bought it through an online dealer Expo Electronics knowing it has a 1 year mfg warranty in case there is something wrong. When received the TV the first week of May it was damaged so I called Philips customer service and they referred me to a local repair shop Strauss Photo Technical Service in Washington DC. They said that the whole screen needs to be replaced and it will take 3 weeks. It is now the 4th week and have not heard from them. The repair man said that Philips customer service keeps putting him on hold for 1hr.

A $2000 TV should at least work. It seems from this site that a number of people are having problems with them.

We purchased a 42 Plasma TV in November 2005 (Thanksgiving sale). Forty five days later, the TV was not working properly, the display was distorted. We called Circuit City where we purchased the TV and they said that Philips has to handle it since it is under the Philips warranty. Called Philips - an Authorized Service Center (ASC) came out and looked at the TV. They ordered a part under technical advice of Philips came back and installed it - did not fix the problem. For the second time, they ordered another part under technical advice of Philips. Came back installed it - did not fix the problem.

Third time, under Technical advice of Philips, they ordered another part in March. From the time they ordered this part up until May 16th we believed we needed it. On May 16th I was told by Philips that our ASC was instructed sometime between 5/6 - 5/13 (Philips has given me different dates) to fix the unit without needing the part that we have been waiting on. I called our ASC; they have not heard anything from Philips. The ASC has tried to get a response from Philips Field Technicians via phone, email, and fax for the past two weeks.

We paid $2119.99 for this TV and spent lots of time on the phone with Philips. Brand New 42 Plasma TV with replaced parts and still does not work properly, a distorted display is the best way I can describe it. We could have purchased a better TV and a different brand for $2000, especially after 5 months.

My wife and I purchased our first home in April 2005. After we purchased our home we decided to buy a new television. I have worked for Circuit City in the past and THOUGHT that Philips was a good brand. In November 2005 our television blew two fuses. I contacted Philips and the customer service representative informed that I should contact a Philips certified repair facility.

I took my television to KRAL electronics in Newark, DE. They repaired the television, but it took a week longer than they told me. The parts were still covered under the Manufacturer's Warranty, however, the labor had to be paid. The total for the labor was $120. I asked the repair person how much the parts cost. He told me part (there were two) would cost around three dollars each. This morning, April 9, 2006, My television is broken AGAIN. Everything else is working (i.e. DVD player and VCR). It broke while I was watching it. This complaint is to inform Philips/Magnavox that I will no longer purchase ANYthing with their names on it again nor any subsidiary.

I bought a 53 inch widescreen tv, paid A LOT of money for it, and just after the warranty expired, it broke. It is a Magnovox by Philips, and is supposed to be a top of the line product. I called to request that they help with the repairs which will be over $500, but they were not interested in backing up their product, or keeping a customer satisfied. A big purchase like this should last SEVERAL years and this only made it past the warranty.

The economic damage to my husband and I is first, the $1200 we paid for the tv, and now a little over a year we will have to pay over $500 to fix this. My husband and I are having financial problems at this time and this will take most of what is left of our savings. But what choice do we have? We could choose not to fix it and then we are still out $1200 for a tv that should have lasted alot longer. I spoke with Philips and they will not help in any way.

Philips/Magnavox 50 in tv model number 9p5034c103 serial number 58116455 had the tv just about 5 year all the color tubes went out in the tv and it blew out a electrical componet in the tv it is going to cost over $1,100.00 to fix it. Philips/Magnavox will not even help pay for the repairs we are will to pay for at least half of it but why should we have to pay for it all when a tv that cost over $3,000.00 last only 5 years it should have lasted more than 5 years Philips/Magnavox don't even want to help.

Same as everyone else, paid good money for my 42" class, shortly out of warranty, half screen, then red light flashes, now nothing, repair shop says 1,000 to fix it. Count me in on any action. out of 2500 with very few hours of viewing

Niki of Lauderhill, FL November 2, 2009

I am so devastated to see all these posts I had no idea. I bought my husband a Philips 42 Plasma at Brandsmart 3 years ago for 2800.

When I looked at getting it fixed, it would cost over 300 to have a "licensed" Phillips dealer fix it.
