Polaroid TV

sondra of caddo mills, TX October 30, 2009

We purchased a Polaroid TV in sept. 2008, in oct 2009 it went out. We were told it was no longer under warranty, and the TV was not guaranteed any longer than the original 1 year since we did not purchase the 200.00 extended warranty. We finally found a repair shop that would deal with Polaroid TV's and it took him 1 week to even get Polaroid to give him a live person to talk with. They told him all 4 boards needed to replaced, when he tried to tell them it was only 1 board that needed to be replaced, they would only sell all 4 together. I have sent several e-mails and called several times, but I have a job and only 1 hour for lunch, so calling them all the time and being on hold 2 hours at a time doesn't fit my schedule. Needless to say we picked the TV up today and it is not repaired.

Lewis of Robert Lee, Tx, TX October 29, 2009

Bought a 32" HDTV last Christmas for my Mother and here in Oct 2009 picture went out and just have sound. Have seen numerous compliants on the same problem. Took it to a repair shop and Polaroid will not sell a 122 dollar part to shop to fix a 800 dollar TV. But will send their own tech to my house for 250 dollars plus labor, 122 dollars for the part, and 100 dollars for a core charge. As I have read here, there are several people with this same problem. I think this is fraud and they should be took to court.

Deborah of Ironton, MO October 28, 2009

I purchased a 32" HD Widescreen LCD Poloroid TV about a year and a half ago. Just today I turned on my TV and all I get is sound. You know this just isn't fair. We buy these products and they are made so these items we buy stop working just after the warranty is up. Is there anything we can do about this matter? I cannot afford to go out and buy another television.

I called Polaroid Cust. Service on 08/28/09 for a problem with a tv. This was under warranty. After doing everything asked they said they would send me out the part and then would setup a service call. I received the part on 10/15/09. After talking to the support group on that thursday they assured me that a technical group would call me within 3-5 business days to setup a service call.

I called them once again the 26th of October and talked to the same manager (Nick G.). They keep giving me the run around. They claim they have no contact the the technical company that will come out and install the part. I feel I have been very patient since my tv has been out since 08/28/09 and it is now 2 months to fix a warranty part.

The support group manager claims they will call me within the next three to four days now. Even though he claimed on last thursday the 22nd of October that after the day of me getting the part they would call within 3-5 business days. This is the second time that this tv has gone bad 09/06/08. The first time they replaced a part on March 10, 2008. Now it does not work again. Today 10/28/09: A technician showed up at my house at about 11:00 today. He saw that the TV worked but would flicker when there were light colors on the screen. He took the part that they sent to me and went to replace it. This part would not work due to a cable would not connect to the TV from the controller box. They instructed the technician to take the cable from the old controller and put it on the new controller so it would fit. Which the technician had done.

After it was reassembled the technician had re-hung the TV and we turned it on to find that the TV screen looked like pastel colors. A whole different issue. The technician called the company (Polaroid) and explained what was going on. They instructed him to remove the controller board and reseat it again to make sure it was seated correctly. When the technician went to remove the board to reseat it he said the board was very, very hot.

To hot to touch. He let the support technician on the phone know that the board was extremely hot. After trying to reseat and hang the TV once again the TV will now get no picture at all. He explained to the support line technician on the phone that there is no picture now and thinks that the board might have caused a different problem due to the heat of it.

I then had to talk to the representative and he explained to me that there is nothing else they can do and that I am just out of the 719.32 TV that I purchased that is still under warranty. They will not send another technician out and that is it.

We purcharsed a 40 inch LCD Polaroid TV from Wal Mart in our home town. Right after the 1 year warrenty ran out we started seeing a line going from the bottom to the top and then going zig zag near the top of the screen. It took me almost 3 months to get through to any on the phone and when I did all they could tell me to do is to send a email with the pitcures of the line on it. Well finally a person called me from the Polaroid company and the very first question that he asked was "did i have small children living in the house" No I said. but throughout the conversation the customer service person might have just come out and called me a liar that someone in my house had touched the TV to make this line come up.

I purchased a Polaroid Flat Screen TV at Circuit City 2-3 years ago and have had the same problems as others - TV doesn't go on immediately and I needed to turn off/on a few times to get the TV to turn on; also, the TV would just go off. I unplugged/plugged in the TV which usually worked. When it didn't I replaced the power chord. It worked for a few weeks. Then the TV would not turn on at all, no matter what I tried.

T.R. of Mechanicsville, VA October 22, 2009

Purchased a 15.4" HD Widescreen LCD Television, Model TLA-1511C, Serial No. ER704434870000878. Mfg. Date May 2007 at Wal Mart, Mechanicsville, VA. Accordingly, have had this tv approximately 2 years. The screen goes "black" after 10-30 seconds. Still hear the volume, but can't get the "vision" part any longer unless I turn the tv off and turn it back on; only to have it go "black" again. I feel absolutely cheated by a company that I had confidence in to build a quality product. With the new technology, I thought it may last 10-12 years, not the 15-20 years that I've had the privilege to benefit from the past. When I called the Summit Technology Group who is referenced in the customer service flyer, all I got was an offer to mail the tv to a fix-it shop, I pay freight and the cost to fix it. I will confidently share my experience with Polaroid Products henceforth, unless they "pony-up" and recompensate me for my loss.

Glen of Nutley, NJ October 22, 2009

Purchased a 32" Polaroid TV from Circuit City in NJ in late 2006 for 850. 1 year and 1 week after purchase i had no sound or picture and had to unplug to turn off like many others. Even though I only missed warranty by 1 week Polaroid did nothing for me. Went to local repair shop and paid almost 300 to fix i believe it was power supply and 2 capacitors. Now, 2 years later I have the same problem with no picture. I've had enough, Polaroid has cost me 1150 and much anger. I will go with a name brand TV next(should have in first place). We need to file a class action but sadly the consumer rarely wins these days.

Sandy of Kansas city, MO October 21, 2009

I purchased a 46" Polaroid TV on November 28, 2008. The TV has had some intermittant issues not turning off or turning on. But the real issue came recently (only 10 months later) when the cable man went to plug in the cable to the back of the TV. An electric current surged out of the back of the TV and burned his arm, fried the tip of the cable and the input receptor on the TV. Two cable men were present and both verified that it was the TV sending the power surge back out of the TV. This could have resulted in an even more serious injury, possible death, or a fire. They need to pull these off the market. The poor cable guy had red burns across the top of his forearm. I can certainly see why Polaroid is bankrupt. They obviously are using substandard parts. I would recommend anyone who has recently purchased this TV, returning it for a refund. It is only a matter of time before it goes out or someone gets hurt. Based upon the information I have seen, it doesn't appear contacting Polaroid would do any good.

Shirley of Clearwater, FL October 21, 2009

We purchasd a Polaroid TV from Circuit City when they were going out of buisiness. We told the manufacturers warranty would be in place if anything happened to it. Now I am told Polaroid is out of business. My TV is 6 months old and doesn't even turn on. I purchased a 37 inch TV for 600.00 and 6 months later it is not working.
