RCA

Debby of Columbia MO (12/26/07)
We purchased a RCA SDTV 36" screen on May 7, 2007. On December 16, 2007, in the middle of a movie the television died and has not come back on since. That's not the bad part. The bad part is, you can't reach anyone at RCA to get repair information; and when you get an auto-response from Thomson (who by the way, did not read the emails because all the responses have been the same no matter what you state) you get auto-reply. We have a year warranty, and it looks like they are going to ignore us until the warranty wears out. After reading thousands of comments and complaints, I'm sure my 400 TV will never be repaired or replaced.

We are out all that money, and now the TV--and with the way this corporation is now, we won't even be able to talk to someone to tell them how disappointed we are with their product. Because this is the second time one of their products has quit working in under a year, we will never purchase any product affiliated with RCA. The consumer should be their number one priority; it's a shame it's not.

This is all about an RCA HD 50 TV (which I bought 2 years ago on 5 Oct. 2005) which has been sitting at Tower TV in Fort Smith, AR for 59 days as of today (23 Dec. 2007). I went through a warranty number, and they gave me a number for Tower TV to call so they could fix the TV. I told Tower TV at the time that according to the manual it could possibly be the lamp but also the color was distorted. They picked up the TV on 26 Oct 2007 and ordered a part through Thomson Consumer Electronic Corp which apparently owns RCA. The part was ordered on 31 October from Clarita, CA but was told that it was back ordered and would be in around 8 November. Part did not arrive at Tower TV until around 15 or 16 November. The part was a color wheel (that is what Tower TV told me). They said it fixed the noise that the TV made but did not fix the main problem.

So on 21 Nov 07 they ordered a light engine from Thomson (which I found out when I called Tower TV). At the time the person I talked to at Tower TV said that RCA has parts built in China. On 27 November I called Thomson Consumer Elect. Corp with the number Tower TV gave me, as they told me that I should call because if they did, it wouldn't do any good. I talked to Michael. He took info and said the information would be sent to the search dept, and they would be in touch with me or Tower TV.

On 17 December Tower TV told me the parts Dept was doing a world search for the part: Light Engine. So on 17 Dec I called Thomson Consumer Elec Corp (800) 448-0329 again and talked to Sidney who told me that the parts dept said they are trying to find a compatible part as RCA (Thomson) has no RCA light engine available. Amazing!

This to me is unbelievable that they have no RCA part available. I just don't know what to do. I have never heard of a repair taking so long. Makes me wonder if I got a LEMON. The consequence is that I have had my TV in the repair shop for 59 days. I don't even know if I am telling this to the right people. HELP.

I purchased a 20 inch Tru-Flat RCA television and it is less than a year old. It cuts off by itself and I can not get it to say on. This is very upsetting because of the way I like to watch tv. RCA keep giving me the run-a-round.

I am very upset and don't trust any RCA products or Walmart items.

I purchased a RCA 52INCH TV in June 2006. In Oct. 2007, the TV just stopped working. I called a repair man and it was a bad deflector board. After researching online, this is a common problem with RCA, yet RCA will not take responsibilty.

It cost me 410.00 to get it repaired.

I bought an RCA 50 TV at sales price from Best Buy 1/27/07. The light engine needed to be replaced by an authorized service company. I have been without my TV since 11/15/07, and it is still not repaired. Thomson/RCA offered finally an exchange, but then I found out they will not exchange for the same quality or model; instead they want me to exchange for a cheaper product because I did not pay their manufacturer sales price. Then I asked for a refund, and they said they do not do refunds. After complaining they agreed to a refund, but then I was told it will be 6-8 weeks to process and receive my money. So not only did I go without during Thanksgiving and my vacation but now they are telling me I am going to go with out during Christmas, maybe even New Years as slow as they actually move. And nothing accommodates for that and the stress of all this. I am losing sleep over this because I am so angry. It isn't fair!

This has caused great stress in my life on a daily basis between all the time I spend on call and contacting this company--to coming home and having to share a smaller TV with another adult--to the pride that has been taken away from me. I thought it was a privilege for me to be able to spend 1300 on a nice television, and all Thomson/RCA has done is cheapen the experience. Of course this may be silly for some people, but for me money doesn't come easily.
