Zenith/LG Large-Screen TVs

Wade of Reno NV (2/2/07):
In November 2003 after significant research, I purchased a Zenith model D52WLCD Television. I have been very happy with the purchase until recently. The television began having an issue with the screen display. A large blue streak appeared in the upper left hand corner. It has grown progressively larger. I contacted the service provider here in my area, and have been informed that this issue is present in many of these models sold in 2003.

The repair cost is over sixteen hundred dollars. The original purchase price of the television was just twenty-three hundred dollars. After extensive research regarding this issue, it has come to my attention that many other individuals that have purchased this product are having the same problem. I would think that in the interest of protecting the reputation of your company you would address this issue with your customers.

Many individuals that purchased this model have all suffered the same problem, after the same time frame of use. I have copied and pasted some of the complaints that are posted on-line. There is significant documentation available that infers that Zenith sold a defective product.

Greg of Valparaiso, IN July 29, 2009

On Sunday July 26th, 2009 I joined the ranks of those ripped off by having purchased a Zenith Z50PXD2 plasma TV. My unit was a Circuit City purchase in March of 2006. I was just 3 months past the extended warrenty period. I have been very impressed by the information and solution sharing on the web, and equally dissapointed in LG's denial of the recurring nature of the problem.

I got the same story from LG Customer Support that many others have: "Past the warrenty period - not our problem" The rep. I spoke was clearly briefed on how to handle this exact inquiry because he had a somewhat rehearsed speach citing the "unauthenticated nature" of the information on the web. For now I have ordered a replacement Ysus board and will install myself and hope for the best.

I can't express how dissapointed I am in LG. I paid a total of 3200.00 for the TV and extended warrenty, so essentially I paid 1000/year to watch what is now an average television.

We are also victims of this faulty TV scenario. Purchased the Zenith Z50PX2D 50 in. HDTV Plasma Television almost 3.5 years ago. Paid over 3000+ was told this type of tv (at Best Buy) has a life 10+ years. Experienced a loud pop 2x (almost equal to the sound of car backfiring) and the picture goes blank. Was told by a tech that it's possibly the Y or Z sus. board. This is a common reoccuring prob. with this particular model.

These are all faulty parts that NEED TO BE RECALLED! The manufacture should at the VERY least send us replacement parts at no charge and we will pay the labor! Was turned down after numerous calls to customer service.

i bought a zenith 50 in plasma model #z50px2d i went to town came back home went to turn my tv on (NO POWER) there was no storms we tried other plug in. this tv is only a little over 2 yrs old and paid over 2500 for it. of course there is no warrenty. i have read online multile complaints with the same model and same problems within the same amt of time. it looks like zenith should recall these tv within a certain time period. because there is a list of people from 2005 till now with this complaint. i have never had a tv go out in less than 10 years. please see what can be done. i am told it could cost 800 to 1000 to fix. please check complaints and see if we can not get these recalled. this is way to much to pay for a tv for it go out this soon. i thought zenith was a good company

V. of MOUNT ROYAL , NJ July 16, 2009

I purchased a Zenith 50" plasma TV about 2.5 to 3 years ago(Md# ZX50PX2D manufactured 01/06 in Mexico)I have enjoyed this set until 07/15/09 as with everyone else I heard a loud poping sound. The picture went to a washed out look. I unplugged it then plugged it back in picture was still washed out. I turned it off for the night.

The Next day 07/16/09 I turned it back on it popped again and now it will not turn on at all. I Googled the problem and found out to late that this is a very common problem. I'm very disappointed with the Zenith/LG brand. IF A COMPANY will not stand behind its product what does that say about consumer confidence.

Richard of ST. PETERSBURG, FL July 10, 2009

As with all the other unfortunate people who bought a Zenith 50" plazma tv with the #Z50PX2D. My TV just popped and went blank on Sunday 7-12-09, less than 3 and a half yr life span. They said they would guide me to their repair shop but i would have to pay to fix it.

Kay of Bolingbrook, IL June 22, 2009

The 50' plasma I bought three years ago died last week, the screen went black, and that was the end of it. Because its over my warranty time, Zenith won't even help with the repair. Will spend more money and time on this useless piece of crap like other folks, no I don't have the time or the patience. It's funny how there's a consumer affairs, the better business bureau, and perhaps other agencies that deal with BAD BUSINESSES. Why is it then, the BAD BUSINESSES still have the right to screw with the customer, our money and our time? This country is no different than any other corrupt country, the customer service garbage here is just a facade.

Carmen of Autin , TX June 16, 2009

I purchased a rear projection TV for 2,500.00 after about 2 years it just stopped working. Took several months for me to be able to save enough money to fix it but finally, I did and guess what this time it worked for about 9 months and the next time it broke it smoked. Come to find out the same televisions manufactured 1 mont prior were being recalled because they were starting fires. But since mine was the following month and not under recal...to bad so sad. I was ignored by zenith, literally told they cannot be responsible for MY broken television, well needless to say stupid me fixed it again. I saved for long to buy this "luxury" in the first place and then again to fix it that I couldn't just start over so I saved up another 500.00 and fixed it again. And guess what?? It no longer turns on...I was gone when this happened so not sure if it smoked this time. To make a long story short. Zenith has the worse customer service I have ever experienced absoloutely no accountability for their defective products and the only way you will get resolve is through a law suit. If you are considering a zenith product...don't!!

Mark of Oakton, VA May 25, 2009

I have a Zenith Z50px2d flat screen tv and it went pop and then only audio, no picture. Guessing like everyone else that it would cost 800 to 1200 to repair. Out of warranty; purchased more than 4 years ago. Is there a record of what part is consistently failing?

priscila of tampa, FL May 22, 2009

I own a 50 inch plasma tv, I got it for less then 14 month, when suddlenly a loud pop in the back, it was the end of it, there is no picture only red and black, I call like 20 different numbers and no body will help saying that the the warranty is expired, I which zenith manufacture do something about it, I don't thing is fair for all the people out there with the same problem and same exact tv model z50pxzd.
