3 Star Carpet Cleaning

Andrea of Staten Island, NY, writes:
Last March I called a Carpet Cleaning Service I saw advertised in my neighborhood paper to come to my home to pick up my 2 area rugs. They gave me a price of $150 for both of them and after giving them a check for $75 as a deposit they promised to return the carpets cleaned in about two weeks. After numerous calls to them they promised on three different occassions to bring my carpets. On all three occassions they failed to show up.

I took them to Small Claims Court twice and both times they didn't show up and both times i was awarded $825 to cover the cost of my carpets. They never answered the judgement nor did they ever give me back my carpets and to add insult to injury they cashed my deposit check. How can they do that??? They have my money, my carpets and they are still in business. Am i supposed to just let them keep my rugs and my money and allow them to just ignore the law??? Please tell me what can I do, I only want what is mine. They are no better then ****. And they are still in business. How can that be?

The consequences are that I no longer have carpets in my living room and dining room and being a single working parent it is not easy to replace them. As for the emotional damage, I have been to court twice and to the City Marshall twice and I still have not gotten my property back nor received any restitution. I am getting very disillusioned with the justice system and with people in general.

We don't have a good answer for Andrea, unfortunately.
