Amana Appliances

Melissa of Washington Court House, OH October 6, 2008

Melissa of Washington Court House OH (10/06/08)
We lost power for 3 days. During that time, we lost everything in our refrigerator and freezer and our deep freeze. Very happy when the power came back on but upset that everything had to be replaced in the refrigerator and freezer.

So here it is, about two weeks later and several hundred dollars later. This morning I get up to find everything in the frig is room temperature. All the refrigeratable groceries I have are ruined. I call the 800 number listed in my Model AFD2535DEB frig. I had to have the serial number and model number. This was purchased new Jan 23, 2006 but I was informed, of course, the warranty is expired. I was on the phone for an extremely long time only to get transferred and told that they don't deal with Amana, only Maytag, and I would have to call some other 800 number (not the one in my frig).

Anyway, I call this number and am given a list of 4 service company's and their phone numbers that I can call to get service. The first one I called said they could be out in 14 days! I ended up calling someone local who said he will come out and check on it tomorrow and that it is probably the compressor, since the light comes on and such. Very sad to have spent 1600 on a refrigerator that did not last 3 years.

The service number I called could come out to help in 14 days! Man answering phone for service had no compassion. Disappointing experience with Amana and will not purchase their product or Maytag in future.

In 1991 we bought an amana stove model arh660hr from sears. We never thought that we would be having ongoing problems with the hinges for the oven door. I never heard of oven door hinges breaking and causing the oven door to fall from the range. So far 3 hinges have broken and we have had to repair them at our expense. But last night it was a different story as my wife had baked a cake and as she opened the oven door the hinge broke and the burning oven door fell almost causeing her severe burns.

I have called amana and they really could care less but this is a problem where a person could be hurt or maimed. Seems to me that the manufacturer should either recall the stove or replace the defecytive hinges at no cost to the original consumer. If my wife had been burned I would have looked for recourse from amana. So tomorrow I have to call a repairman to come to replace the defective hinge with another manufactured one exactly the same as the 3 that broke. I hope that you can help us

I was just a few steps away and was able to grasp the oven door handle and put it back in place away from my wife before either of us were injured

We bought a new Amana washer in 2004 and within the 1st year needed the main bearings replaced under warranty. These same main bearings need replacing again at an estimated cost to us of several hundred dollars. We owned Maytag/Amana products in the past because of their quality products but it seems their new products are lacking in quality design and materials.

I bought an 1,800 Amana refrigerator in 2002. In the first three years we had three services calls because of excessive moisture inside unit and icing inside of the refrigerator side as well as freezing of vegetables/fruit in the bins. On the last of the three service calls the technician identified a sagging hinge as the problem and was able to repair the hinge to improve the seal on the doors.

The hinge broke this year again. While waiting for a part the compressor failed. When the technician returned a week later with the hinge part we were told it would cost 700 to replace the compressor, in addition to the 150 we had just spent on hinge replacement. Since I am unwilling to throw more good money after bad, here we are tossing 1,800 into a landfill along with the the cost of 5 service calls. I'm livid! A refrigerator should last 15-20 years, not 6!

Loss of food; loss of investment in appliance, service call costs

We purchased October of 2001 an Amana Distinctions commercial quality washer. Model# DLW 330RAW. Not long after we had it conveniently just out or warranty,it began leaking all over the floor. The motor would shake all the time. It never seemed to rinse clothes completely, many times I had to re-rinse the load, would never fully spin out the clothes always had to run it through the spin cycle twice. The final problem was when I smelled burning rubber and went downstairs to find the entire basement filled with smoke. The belt melted all over the motor and started melting the plastic parts.

No washer have to purchase a new washer.
