Amana Appliances

Nancy of Jersey City, NJ September 1, 2008

Nancy of Jersey City NJ (09/01/08)
Bought Amana refrigerator model #ABB1927DES in December 23, 2004. Compressor failed and between diagnosis, shipment of parts and return visit of authorized A&E Factory Service, Wharton, NJ at least 2 weeks without refrigeration.

Again the compressor failed and A&E was called Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 and told so. Nevertheless the repair man came with no compressor to diagnose my refrigerator Friday August 29th, 2008. Labor Day Weekend, no refrigeration. Parts were ordered that Friday with an appointment made for Friday, September 5th. This is unacceptable.

Two other authorized companies called. One I was able to leave a message with. No call back. A small refrigerator was purchased Saturday by me to have refrigeration while I wait. 2 compressors in 4 years, really 3 years of use since refrig wasn't installed untill May 2005.

Buying bags of ice. Sickness/diarhea from food that was previously insufficently cold. Purchase of 117 small refrigerator to keep food cold while waiting for repair. Numerous meals out and additional shopping trips needed to get fresh food.

We purchased a side-by-side Amana refrigerator in 2003. We used it for less than one year as our everyday refridgerator. Due to a move to another city, this refridgerator then became our spare for the last 5 years. Therefore, it has been used only sparingly.

Even so, the compressor broke and now the refridgerator is nothing but spare parts. The repairman said that there has been major trouble with Amana compressors and that we would be better off buying a new refridgerator than repairing. Even without repairs, it will cost money to dispose the unit due to environmental regulations, etc.

I called Amana Cust Service on 8-15-08 with regard to the warranty on my Amana Washing Machine. I had a pump replaced today at a cost of 208.65. I have used this machine for 3 1/2 years so I believe that I am within the time frame of 3-10 years for the warranty, stated in my manual. I was told by the representative that because the company who rendered the service was not registered as an authorized technician, that Amana could do nothing for me.

Whether or not this technician is registered with Amana should not be an issue for me. I feel that Amana should give me some relief financially. If need be I can provide documentation for the repair. I put out 208.65 today to replace a defective part that I feel should be covered under warranty.

My 3 year old Amana refrigerator compressor broke. I have the service contract and I had to wait 6 days for a service person to tell me the compressor broke. When I called the next business day to make sure the part was ordered, I was told my mechanic was out and the paper work to order the part could not be ordered until his return.

The part takes 3 to 4 business days to get not to mention I have to wait to make another appointment to have it installed. I will be without refrigeration for about 3 weeks. I can buy a new one in 1 day. I am very disappointed with Amana because I had only bought Amana refrigerators due to their past reliability. I will never buy another. SHAME ON AMANA that they can no longer make a reliable product or provide quality service when a product breaks.
