Amana Appliances

Peter of Reading, PA July 14, 2008

Peter of Reading PA (07/14/08)
The glass door on my Amana range exploded during a cleaning cycle. The unit is 2 years ld. Amana customer service told me that there is nothing that they could do for me. It's not under wrranty. This was the first time I ever used the cleaning cycle. It's clearly defective ad I have no recourse but to fix it myself at my cost. There is tempered glass everywhere. I have pictures. Any suggestions?

Nothing major. Clean up of broken tempered glass. Inconvenience of not having oven. Fortunately no ne was injured. Cost of repair if I choose to fix it. Amana will not pay to fix defective oven.

Bought a 1000.00 plus refrigerator from appliance store only 2 years old lost all my food plus husbands insulin supply went bad. Called Amana they did nothing! We called a repair man who states they need constant repairs. We spend almost 200 for a part. Here we go again a month later it is not cooling! Please get htese off the market and make them reimburse or repair the items at no cost as a 2 year old should last!

Loss of food medicine, to no avail. I also had Amana and Maytag washers that did not last any expected time! I think a law suit should be filed as they have poor service nasty employees who say if it is over a year what do you expect! They should pay for food loss, medicine loss, all the work to remove spoiled food!

I bought an Amana dehumidifier less than 2 years ago. It has now stopped working. I did not expect it to last a lifetime but I do think a they must have little or no regard for quality or longevity of their products. We have an Amana washmachine that flooded the floor twice in 2 years after having the same part replaced twice. No more Amana junk for me!

We bought an Amana side-by-side refridgerator/freezer in Feb. 2002. Paid 1200 cold cash. The compressor had a five year warranty. Compressor just quit June 2008. The repairman listened to the sound and said the compressor is shot, and it'll cost 500 bucks to fix. Did I mention you have to take the refridgerator back to the dealer too. They can do it for you, but that will cost extra. What a nightmare.

First you spend a large amount of money to buy a modern convenience then it becomes a headache, and then you get to keep paying for it until the next time it happens. I think this is Whirlpool-Amana's plan. It keeps the service people out of trouble. They're busy all the time. The compressor cost is 180 dollars and the labor is 320 dollars. The original compressor was made in Brazil and so is the current replacement. I'm not hopeful about it's life expectancy either.

The Whirlpool orginazation has done a great job of insulating themselves from the heat of unhappy conumers. If you call the 1-800 consumer hotline number and want to speak with an Amana representative you will be told that no name or phone numbers are given to consumers. I am told that the dealers do not even have person they can talk with or lean on for support. You will be on your own when you buy Amana.

The Amana refridgerator factory is about 60 miles from our home. I wonder how those hard-working people feel about sending out a product to fellow Americans that is of low quality in terms of reliability? The product quality is unacceptable. We are finished with the Whirlpool-Amana brand. Thank you for listening.

We purchased an Amana washer, for 430, on 7/21/03 We purchased the extended warranty, thank goodness. We use it in our summer home(condominium), so it get used a total of about 3 months of the year. We have had problems with it every summer when we come.

This summer it needed a new motor. It was ordered, after two weeks, it finally arrived. When the service man came to install it, he discovered the part was defective, so they had to order another. It has been a week and a half and the part has not come. I guess it has to come from China. We will never again purchase anything from Haywood Appliance and most especially will never buy anything Amana again.

It has been very frustrating and difficult having to find an alternative place to do our laundry for such a long time. There has not even been an apology from the dealer for the poor service.
