Amana Appliances

a.Johnson of bloomington, MN July 8, 2009

Purchased an Amana Side by side refrigerator Model SBDE21BPSE Deceber 22, 1998. We have exhausted two after market extended warrantys on repairs since the purchase. We have at least 20 service calls on this appliance. The tecnicians from our City's Utility Home Service Contract are currently attemptinig to get the refrigerator running. The prognosis does not look good. THis refrigerator has needed service almost every 6 months- starting weeks after the purchase. The interior walls are stress cracked which Amana pretty much sais "so what".

Purchased an oven and stovetop in 2000. I am now replacing the membrane- switch pane for the 6th time at 150 a pop. F1 comes on and then the stove stops working. The last time we ordered the replcaement part- it took three months to get which tells me that there are other people having the same issue. Amana is no help except to say that they have not had other complaints. We are tired of this! I too can feel the heat coming from the over when it is on and have the brown spots just outside the door.

I purchased an Amana French-door refrigerator, model AFD2535DES, in August 2004 as part of a kitchen remodel. I paid 2400 for it. I've had 3 repair calls on it in less than 5 years and when I opened it this morning, everything was warm. Of course, there's no repair person available on Sunday.

The first call was to replace something involving the fan; the part had a 1-year warranty and failed 3 months after the warranty expired. Repair bill was about 150 ... plus loss of all the food in refrig and freezer. A year later, something else went bad -- this time it was a 260 service call, plus the loss of all the frozen and refrigerated food. In March 2009, the thing died again. I again lost all the food ... and this time, the compressor had burned up. It was under warranty until August 2009, so I only had to pay for the service call, which was 64. However the service man warned me that Amana would not cover another motor replacement. Guess what? This morning, June 2009, I opened the refrig and it was warm inside. Everything in the freezer has thawed. The motor is not running. So now it's service call #4 -- and likely a new compressor.

The Amana FRENCH DOOR REFRIG in my kitchen is a piece of JUNK. I bought it on the strength of the Maytag/Amana names. NEVER AGAIN. And, of course, Amana/Maytag service is a JOKE. Oh, yes, I received an offer for Amana's "Asure extended service" contract. I had to sign up by 21 April 2009. The offer arrived in my mailbox on 23 April 2009.

We bought this washer in June of 2005. We decided on an Amana because it was a well known brand and the price was decent since we were getting a bit of a break buying all new appliances for the kitchen as well (not Amanas by the way) Now we know why the salesman gave us a break...to get rid of a piece of junk! This washer went belly up after exactly 4 years. I went to wash a load of laundry and it filled up fine but then when it got to the agitate cycle it just started grinding and vibrating and the agitator was not turning. We called in a repairman that told us that it was the transmission. The transmission has a ten year warranty so it was still covered, however, in order to change the transmission, a seal kit must be changed that is NOT covered and costs around 100 plus you have to pay for labor. The estimate for repair was 286, which is almost only 100 less than we paid for the machine new 4 years ago!

What a rip off! Now we still have to pay a 50 service charge even though we're not getting it repaired. We called customer service at Amana and after being put on hold for almost 30 minutes (the entire call took 45) my husband detailed the situation to the representative and pointed out to her that the "warranty" on the transmission was essentially worthless since the seal kit was not being covered making the repair cost compared to the price new 4 years ago not worth it.

All they would offer us was 15% off a new AMANA appliance. NO WAY! First of all, 15% is a crap offer when you have to replace a major appliance after only 4 years and second, why would we buy another Amana when we got a piece of junk from them before with a worthless warranty? The ironic thing is that a 15% discount would probably be about the same price out of their pocket as the seal kit so why not just cover the seal kit and keep your customers happy? Doesn't make sense to me. When they would not offer anything else, my husband asked them if what they wanted was for us to "go away and never buy another Amana (or Maytag since they are both owned by the same company now) appliance ever again and tell everyone we know to stay away from them" and essentially the answer was yes. Stay away from Amana. After this I have read reviews on other sites on not just their washers but other appliances and they seem to get very low reviews and are JUNK. So now our family of 5 including a 6 month old baby is out a washing machine after only 4 years of service from this one and we have to somewhere find the money for a new one when we live on a strict budget and one income so that I can be a stay at home mom.

We had a washing machine before this one that was a hand me down from a friend that was already 17 years old when we got it and we had it an additional 4 years and never had a problem with it. I believe it was a Whirlpool. The only reason we bought a new one was that we were moving and decided not to take our appliances with us since it was a long distance move. I wish we had brought that old washer with us. It would probably still be working today! Only getting 4 years out of a washing machine is BS.

My oven (Amana) has not worked properly since January, 2009 Many Technicians have been to my home trying to find the right part with no luck. the last technician came out on May 18 but had no parts to install. I called the Manager Isaac and asked him where is the part and he said that he did not have the part that he did not know if they even made that part anymore or if it was available. I asked him why he would send out a technician to repair the stove without the part. He couldn't tell me that but said that the part for my stove would be in on June 6th.

I tried for several days to reach Isaac with no luck messages were left but he would not call back, so I called the corporate office and spoke with a Mike Sanchez the manager of the coporate office. He said he would look into the matter and speak with Isaac and that he would call me back that same day which was June 8th. He never called back.

The process that I use to cook is that I have to pull the oven away from the wall and plug it in. Then I cook whatever I need, but I have to stay in the kitchen because an alarm will start blaring and you have to keep turning it off for as long as you cook. When I am done cooking I then have to unplug the stove and move it back to the wall. This process can be done 2 or 3 times a day. My husband is disabled and also has diabetis and he cannot eat junk food which does not have to be cooked.

ARLENE of MILFORD, MI May 30, 2009

AMANA REFRIGERATOR MODEL # ABB2224DEB SER# 1113894DGT PURCHASED 11/26/05 I have had five service calls after the warrenty expired. I am waiting for the service man for the sixth repair. They have replaced several relay switches and several computer units. Loss of all food in refrigerator and freezer six times.

Jean of Sharpsburg, GA May 14, 2009

We also purchased an Amana glass cooktop, Model No. ACC4370AB. It has been horrible. When I turn the burner down to low it boils over. In fact, I can bring a pot of water to a boil on low. We have had a repair man out while it was under warranty to replace switches. Lasted only a short time. Now it's out of warranty and we can't afford to replace it.

Melody of Shreve, OH May 8, 2009

I was washing my clothes today in my model #NFW7200TW, serial # 11885288LV Amana front loading washing machine and went to change the load and noticed water all over the floor and the door was foggy, but thought something had come unhooked and didn't pay attention. I reached in my washer and started pulling out clothes and as I got almost done noticed rattling and knew I hadn't had anything that would rattle in the load. I looked closer and there was a huge chunk of glass (7-10 sq inches) laying in amongst my clothes and as I looked even closer there were shreds and chunks of glass all through my clothes and I looked at the door and to my dismay the inside of the door was missing a huge chunk of glass and there were cracks going all over. I called the Maytag dealership that we purchased it from and they said due to the fact we purchased it in March of 08 that it was no longer under warranty and they couldn't get anyone out til Monday to look at it.

I've been so upset- I had a lot of laundry to catch up on this weekend and now I will be heading to the laundromat and I will have to check my complete load carefully to make sure that all the glass is picked out of it and hopefully I won't get cut and hopefully none of our clothes are ripped from the glass. Not happy at all- this is very dangerous and the glass is obviously defective if it would break and crack like that when we have owned it for a little over a year and it was manufactured in November of 07 so from it's birth it is not even two years old. I'm just wondering if there has been a recall or if this problem has happened anywhere else and I'm very glad I didn't have a trip to the er out of this...

Cherie of Springville, UT May 2, 2009

I purchased a double oven Dec 2004. I have replaced the control pad 4 times and the costant clicking just began again, the oven turns itself on. In the middle of the night last night I heard the clicking and came down and my oven had turned itself on. This has happened every time and then the panel just goes out.
