Amana Appliances

Alice of Lancaster, PA March 19, 2009

Alice of Lancaster PA (03/19/09)
The convection oven may be a good product, however, the hinges that are supposed to keep the oven door closed tightly, don't work properly. According to the repair man, who has been here multiple times (each time with a service charge), the hinges are too light for the door. Therefore, the oven door fails to close properly and to stay closed. Imagine, you put something into the oven to bake and you find the door slightly ajar. Doesn't make for good baking!

We've had the hinges replaced and the same thing happens. Even our repair man has complained to Amana with no results. They know the hinges are too light, but too bad for you for buying their faulty product. This is the last time I will buy an Amana product and believe me I will never recommend any appliance to anyone who asks!

Nanci of Merrick, NY March 17, 2009

Nanci of Merrick NY (03/17/09)
Purchased a bottom freezer Amana refrigerator in 08/2005. Last week the refrigerator section stopped working but the freezer continued. Called Whirlpool/Amana service and scheduled an appt. Still warranteed under 5 yrs. parts & labor. Called the contract service company directly to ask what the cost would be to come to my house. 3 times she answered that there was no fee. Had to take an entire day off from work to wait for the service repairman who arrived at 2PM. First thing he hands me is a sheet indicating the cost to come to my house is 134.95. Argued with him and then his manager. Signed the form.

Then had to remove all food from the freezer so that he could diagnose problem. Since only parts and labor in the sealed unit were covered, of course the problem was the control board at a cost of 135. The part would have to be ordered. While he was still in the house, called Amana/Whirlpool and after waiting 20 mins., spoke to a manager who was rude and keep telling me that I don't have a warrantee.

The total was close to 300 and when the part comes in, I will have to take another day off from work. Went to get ice and lower my blood pressure. A REFRIGERATOR THAT ONLY LASTS 3 AND A HALF YEARS! NO WONDER THE ECONOMY IS IN SUCH BAD STRAITS. NO WORK ETHIC NO ETHICS AT ALL

Ruth of Northfield, OH March 12, 2009

I complained about the food in my freezer defrosting in October 1008. I was told that my warranty expired 2 weeks prior. Then the freezer began to work again and I transferred the food from my upright freezer in the garage back into the refrigerator freezer. About a month later the same thing happened and I called again being told that my warranty expired. The third time in December I called again being told there was nothing that could be done.

A customer service representative transferred me to a very rude and condescending person who asked me what I wanted him to do about the situation. I explained I wanted them to take responsibility for repairing the freezer. He told me that he has a job because of people like me. I could only get him to agree to pay for the compressor and I had to pay for the service call in addition to the labor which totalled more than the compressor. When I commented that I would never buy another Amana/Maytag/Whirlpool product again he renigged on the offer.

Well, finally, the refrigerator was fixed and a new compressor was installed 450 later. Now in March of 2009, I noticed the ceiling of my basement wet and another repair was made to the tune of 250 for a new valve. My hardwood floor behind the refrigerator is soaking wet and buckling and I am told to call my homeowners insurance. This refrigerator is 5 1/2 years old and this situation is ridiculous. the repairman explained to me the next thing to go will be the ice maker.

I can hardly believe that I paid 1600 for a product that I thought would be trustworthy only to spend additional money on repairs and be treated badly by customer relations. I will never buy another Maytaq/Amana/Jenn Air Kitchen Aid/Whirlpool product again and I recommend the same for other consumers. Lost food in the freezer, leaky valve cause water damage to my hardwood floor and my ceiling in the lower level and having to spend 700 in repairs for a refrigerator that is just over 5 years old.

22 Cubic Foot Bottom Mount Amana Refrigerator. Bottom Freezer. MODEL NUMBER: ABB2223DEQ I bought this refridgerator on 03/08/06. On 05/15/08 the food in my refridgerator started getting warm and everything in my freezer had frost on it because it was no longer defrosting. As it turned out, I had to have the 'refrigerator control board' replaced (a computer chip Item #ABFCB-45). Because the waranty had expired, I had to pay for all expenses myself.

Total replacement cost for the replacement of the control board was 305.84.

Dianna of Union, KY March 1, 2009

I purchased an Amana electric range in April of 2004. Since that time I have had the control panel on the range replaced six times, and it needs to be replaced again. The touch pad will show an F1 error message and then the oven becomes disabled. Each time I call Amana they are rude and you have to jump through hoops to eventually talk to someone that scolds you for not purchasing the warranty and then they say the orginal warranty has expired. More hoops and after days of calling and being re-routed, someone reluctantly agrees to cover the cost of the part, but never the labor. It is obvious this part is defective or defective in the range, yet no one will vouch for this recurring problem with this particular range.

Each time our range goes out, it is about 3 weeks we go without an oven or cooktop. Three weeks multiplied by seven is 21 weeks without a range, not to mention the endless hours on the phone ensuring we don't pay for the part. This is unacceptable. We have invested more into the labor to have this control panel fixed (1050)repeatedly, then we spent on the actual range (880). In addition, the cost of going without a range forces cold meals or dining out. Extended warranties should not be a replacement for unacceptable quality and defaulted parts.
