Blue Haven Pools

The complaints below are just a few of the pages of anguished tales we've received from Blue Haven customers. If you are even thinking of building a pool, you owe it to yourself to read and ponder these accounts ... and to read the advice of a former pool salesman.

Greg of Coppell TX (09/08/08)
We had our pool installed 2 years ago and over time it has had issues with the pool sweep and a loud buzzing noise. We changed/cleaned the filters, replaced parts on the pool sweep, etc. to no avail. We called Blue Haven in July 2008 and one of their reps finally came out to see what the problem was. It turned out that our pool sweep was hooked up incorrectly and was running constantly causing it to fall apart and stress our pumps. We were told they would fix the system since it was hooked up wrong.

After almost 2 months of waiting for help from them and being totally ignored, we contacted the GM who was unaware of our issue and upset that his staff handled this so poorly. Within one day of contacting the GM Tyler, he had a new timer system installed with a remote (upgrade) and had our pool sweep connected properly. The pool system is working like clock work. This is great customer service and we hope that his company receives more business as a result. He deserves the recognition of going above and beyond the call of duty. Blue Haven and other companies need more employees like this.

New timer installed; pool working correctly.

they sold me a pool then didnt do as they promised. starting with not putting in an auto fill on the pool which is usually standard in an inground pool then they didnt put a step out on both sides even when it was discussed at timeof signing contract. then sold me a heater for the pool but didnot tell me they do not hook it up. same with auto cover sold me one but forgot the detail that they dont install cover.

all this was at an extra expense that they fail to tell you about even thou they tell you that the total they give you if for everything. they left work area filled with their junk 3 months later their stuff is still there. pool is not safe very dangerous to swim in they do not reply to phone calls

They were very attentive and helpful until they received most of the money. They have received more then 90% of the contract price as of today. now they show up for two hours here and there, sometimes not at all for a week, leaving my yard a complete wreck they have absolutely no regards for your property or belongings for that matter, workers have helped them selves to cooler on my patio,of course if confronted they don't understand English!Forget calling office, rude and obnoxious no help what so ever.

Contract stated 90 days to completion from excavation, i do not think that will happen at this rate. I have seen some horrible companies in my life, I come from NY originally but BLUE HAVEN is by far the worst, and I am in the construction field myself! to all who are listening stay away from blue haven

Stephen of Missouri City, TX June 30, 2008

Stephen of Missouri City TX (06/30/08)
First of all, in the beginning, our contract supervisor, David, started digging our pool without pulling the proper permits. We, the homeowners, had to tell him that the permits had to be pulled before digging began. We still have not received a final inspection and approval from the city.

When they installed the plumbing for the pool, they left out the plumbing for the four deck jets, they had to go back and redo the plumbing for deck jets. The heads on the deck werent put in the concrete in the initial pouring, they had to break the concrete out and do patch work to fix the heads. They installed a chlorine system when we requested a salt system. The decking wasnt poured per the plans. We had to pay for the extra decking.

The waterfall pad should have been attached to the pool as part of the pool, not an additional attachment, which is causing problems with our waterfall. The pad was not smoothed out when they finished with it. To correct this problem they placed flagstone on top of the pad to cover up the rough concrete they left on the pad.

The pool had to be drained twice and acid washed, then refilled, because of the stains and residue from the flagstone being cut around the pool. The pool still has several brown, rusty looking spots on the plaster of the pool. The pool looks dirty all the time. Where the pool was acid washed and sand, there are no brown spots in that area, every where else is turning brown

The bottom of the pool is very rough in certain areas of the pool, especially around the draining area. The pool lights in side of the pool will not stay on. They will turn on and stay on for about 5 minutes and then shut off.

After just one year, the pool heater died. The pool service company spent a minimum of 40 hours trying to fix it. The gas company checked the pressure. Jandy (the manufacturer) came and checked it out as well. We tried numberous times to reach Blue Haven, since their contract states that the heater is warranteed by them for 2 years. They never returned our calls. Jandy installed new burners, as the others were burnt out. Every time the heater would go on, it would soot up, smell, and make loud popping noises.

We called Jandy again; they said that the heater was shot and Jandy only warranties it for one year. Due to an upcoming law school graduation party for 100 people, we were under pressure to get it repaired or replaced, so Jandy contacted a heater company to come up and replace it. Sure-Fit was great... they took out the old heater and showed us that it was not installed on a proper foundation and in fact the concrete under it had completely crumbled and eroded. We have pictures of such.

Due to the heater being on a slant, the propane gas did not pass through evenly causing the heater to burn out and die. There was also no manual pressure valve installed, so the gas pressure could never be adequately adjusted. The whole area where the filter and heater are placed was not properly levelled off and the units are all in danger of falling down a steep drop if the ground erodes at all which could easily cause a gas explosion.

We paid for a brand new heater after using the original for just one year. The cost was 5500 with labor and installation. The gas bills for heating the pool with a malfunctioning heater were over 2500. Payments to the pool service company were over 1500 for them to keep coming out and trying to diagnose the problem and cleaning the heater over and over. We have not yet levelled the site because we do not have the money to do it. This will be several thousand dollars to do so. We currently put metal bars under the heater to keep it level and must constantly check it to be sure it stays level.
