Blue Haven Pools

The complaints below are just a few of the pages of anguished tales we've received from Blue Haven customers. If you are even thinking of building a pool, you owe it to yourself to read and ponder these accounts ... and to read the advice of a former pool salesman.

Beth of Martinsville, IN (08/07/06)
I contracted in April to have a pool constructed and was told it would be finished in 45 days, done by Memorial Day. It is August 6 and still not finished. No one ever returns my calls, and when I do manage to speak to a company rep, she promises me that work will be completed that week, but never is. I get no explanations as to why work does not proceed at a reasonable rate.

When the pool was layed out, I informed the construction manager where the septic and the basement sump pump lines were located. He apparently forgot to tell the excavating crew and they dug up both lines, in addition to the electrical line that powers the septic pump. The septic line was repaired that evening only after several phone calls to the company. It was several weeks before the other line and the electrical damage was repaired, and it again took many phone calls to have this resolved.

I have now been waiting several weeks for the concrete decking to be poured, and each week they promise the work will be completed by the end of the week. In addition, I now have a giant pile of gravel in my front yard that they have left, and I have little hope they will remove it. I feel that I have been lied to at every step.

I have invested 40,000 in this pool and have now made 3 payments for nothing.

They started our pool on 5/26/06 and said it would be completed within 45 working days. Every time they say work will be done on a given day, that day is always a week or two later. I was told the final electric would be done on 8/3. Then they told me it would be 8/7, but when I went over there they told me it would be 8/10.

What's with this company, are they too busy to build the pools in the time they say can or are they just incompetent?

The service and the delivery of promised performance is pathetic. I have had to drive to the office in order to track down Greg to get an answer to a simple question because he does not return phone calls. The pool construction was delayed almost two months because of their failure to coordinate and communicate basic information to the customer. Now we have two problems that require a 30 second return phone call to resolve and they cannot deliver in two weeks of requests. It is an amazing example of ongoing lip service without any action after they get the check. We have heard from other customers in the area about similar experiences yet they still are in business without any consequences for this zero service policy. The website is similar. The link to their email doesn't work. The 24/7 phone service doesn't answer. Someone needs to shake down this organization.

Pool not working as it should. Peak summer enjoyment diluted because of two problems that they will not address in a timely manner.

The Blue Haven sales rep, that happensed to be owners son, said he could give us a discount if we would pay in cash. We agree, provided that they give us a receipt.

They have not finished our pool. I ask them to correct problems that were pointed out by construction inspectors, and they would not. They pulled off the job site, and advised that they would not finish pool, unless we agree to not hold them responsible for errors and construction problems that occurred. They also will not give us the remaining equipment that we have paid cash for (and have receipts). The franchise owner says he will not release any other equipment or complete any more work until we sign a hold harmless agreement.

Our Pool sits unfinished as we try to mediate the problems. PLEASE read their contract better than I did.  I have a 30,000 hole in my yard, and it may take months,(and they know that) to get through mediation, and to get the pool completed. Meanwhile they are holding equipment that has been paid for, until completion.

Sadly, I worked for Blue Haven Pools for 3 short months. During this time 19 of 20 calls an hour were from disgruntled customers with problems ranging from not having permits to start the pool to expired permits to finish the pool. Pools that should have taken 12 weeks were not finished in 18 months. We were told to tell customers that managers and schedulers were out of the office, on the phone or in a meeting though they were clearly available for a phone call.

My experience was that the work was shoddy, if completed, and usually was months behind.  One of the unfortunate Blue Haven clients called so much that I told her I'd come to take pictures of the problems with her pool. I went to her home, took the pictures of at least 8 glaring problems ranging from cracked coping, deck seperation, missing and peeling spray deck, and coping that literally fell in the pool.

When presesented with the pictures I was told by the General Manager that I was to keep my nose out of construction and service or else I'd lose my job. I didn't and I lost my job.
