Consumer Complaints

Look out! There's a problem with some of these grills that can cause a fire. There've been at least two recalls plus the consumer complaints listed below.

bradley of savannah, GA September 3, 2009

The product is not worth the price, even if it is free; it falls apart; it does not work as it should; it is incapable of grilling a chicken breast, not to mention an entire Boston butt. I have used 7 tanks of propane and have never been able to cook and entire course using their grill. I have used my grill fewer than 15 times and I am sending it to the land fill. SO much for being green or having a product that works.

April of Kentfield, CA August 25, 2009

Purchased a charmglow BBQ. Rotisserie stopped working about 6 uses. The people at HOme Depot where unhelpful and said there was nothing we could do... except buy more parts. When looking at the reviews; I wish we would have selcted a different BBQ.

Bob of Modesto, CA August 23, 2009

I purchased a Charmglow Stainless Steel Gas Grill, Model No. 720-0036-HD-05 on Feb. 20, 2006. This grill has rusted out and shoots flames from all around. Home Depot tells me I had 90 days from purchase for a refund. When I called them today to ask if they had any other complaints about these gas grills, the gentleman told me that had not received any complaints, only good reviews. That's not what I'm finding out on the internet. And all the complaints I've read lists Home Depot as the place of purchase.

This product had recalls on this product just months prior to my purchase, but nobody said a word to me when I made my purchase. Now I own a worthless piece of stainless steel and all Charmglow wants to do is sell me new parts. Why would anyone in their right mind want to put new parts on an already deemed faulty gas grill? I probably have not used this grill more than 75 times over the three years I've owned it. The Weber I owned prior to this was used for over 20 years and was still working when I decided to purchase a stainless steel one that I expected to last me the rest of my life.

Truly disappointed with the grill and Home Depot for selling an inferior product that they knew at the time was inferior. My shopping days with Home Depot are over.

Rita of Porterville, CA August 22, 2009

Our Charmglow grill we purchased at Home Depot made by THE BRINKMANN CORPORATION.Incident that occurred with the Charmglow Gas grill on 8/08/09 with my husband. My husband's face was burned when the grill suddenly "blew up" during use.We have only used the grill 3 times and two of those times it has done something that is quite scary. My husband's eyelashes and eyebows were also burned off. This grill is well maintained and we had not even started cooking when flames shot about 5 ft in the air. I have attempted to speak with brinkmann and Home Depot but no one has returned my calls nor answered my concerns

We purchased a 3 burner grill 18 months ago at Home Depot. In 3 months after purchase I replaced the knobs and the unit still did not work. The knobs never fit correctly. A few days ago the gril would not start up. I looked into the grill and found the burners had rotted out. After further research I found the rubber melted on some wires that could have caused a major fire. The grill is now were it belongs, in the garbage.

Charmglow should have kept the manufacturing in Wisconsin instead of China. The unsafe grill has been replaced by a [competitor] who we know will stand behind their warranty. We paid allot of money on a product that could have burned our house down.

Chad of Gig Harbor, WA August 16, 2009

I bought a Charmglow 720-0396 from Home Depot for 500 about 18 months ago. It's never worked quite right and I thought maybe I was just doing something wrong or maybe it just never heated. After seeing a friend grill on something that looked similar (non-Charmglow) that he bought from Costco - I knew something was wrong with our grill.

Things have only gotten worse as more than one burner won't light and now that barely works. No one at Home Depot stands by it and Charmglow only wants to sell us new parts - all of which have not helped so far after trying different tank and different regulator.

Dick of Bakersfield, CA August 4, 2009

We purchase a Charmglow Stainless Steel BBQ from Home Depot last fall. It is rusting all over. Didn't think Stainless Steel was supposed to Rust. I looks terrible. It look like it is dirty or has grease stain all over it, but it is rust and we cannot remove it.

Thomas of Baton Rouge, LA August 2, 2009

Charmblow Grill Model 720-0234 quit working all burners after a year or so. Just as many other cheated customers...Home Depot needs to make some kind of adjustment and then work out their problems with the grill distributor..

chris of east hampton, NY August 2, 2009

I bought a charmglow, gourmet series grill. About 3 weeks ago, I lit the grill ,went inside to get the food, heard a whoosing sound, came out and the front of the grill had flames blowing out the front, under pressure, which melted the knobs. I usuallt rent my home in the sumer, and if summers floks were here, I am sure they would have burned the place down. I am a retired fire fighter, I shut the gas off at the house tank and the fire went out.

I reported this to home depot, they sent me to grill services, that want me to allow a person to come out to do an assessment, paid for by me, and repair the grill (which I am sure I will be paying for). They said it was probably a grease fire ( the grill has been taken apart and cleaned 3 times in a year) It was a definte failure of the gas control, and nothing else. It is a DANGER and must be addressed

Noelle of Storrs, CT July 30, 2009

Bought charming glow grill for over 350.00 at home depot end of last year. it has been used maybe 12 times. One of the lines for gas went and almost caused fire. used new propane tank up in 10 minutes couldn't shut it off. Very dangerous.
