John Deere

Nels of Sun Prairie, WI May 3, 2009

Purchased John Deere L111 riding mower from Home Depot in 2005. Four years of regular residential use later and the transmission is broken. Repairs well over 1,000. Unacceptable. Absolutely ridiculous to have an unservicable transmission. When it breaks, you have to replace the entire unit. Had faith in the name John Deere. Will not buy Deere again.

Charlie of Midlothian, TX April 28, 2009

I was working on a js40 walk behind. On this mower you have to hold the safety bar to start it. With my left hand holding the safety bar I pulled the starter rope after primeing. the motor kicked back pulling the starter handle out of my right hand. It retracted with such force and speed it struck my thumb on my left hand holding the safety bar. the Deer pull starter handle has a slight hook on one site of the rubber handle, this rubber handle smashed my thumb at the base joint so hard that it cut and brused it(I though it cut my thumb off it hurt so). poor design.

I'll never buy a John Deer. After this and the recalls for fires from fuel leaks a John Deer is too dangerous to own and use for me

I agree with the masses...John Deere L120 lawn tractors bought from big box stores are very cheaply made. I always thought John Deere products were reliable and durable. Not so. After the first season of use (less than 50 hours) we had to have the spindles replaced to the tune of 300! JD mechanic told us outright that the mowers sold in the big box stores are very cheaply made and problematic.

We are on our third season, and now we are having electrical problems! I never had this many problems with our old Craftman lawn tractor which we bought used and kept for an additional 8 years! I would warn people not to spend their hard-earned money on a John Deere tractor from a big box store!

Nothing Runs Like a Deere. Ha! False advertising! I have a John deere 345 Garden Tractor with all the toys ( attachments). It will start on the coldest day with no problem. After 15 minutes it stalls and will not restart. Most of the time. some times it is in a good mood and runs as I cut our entire acre of ground. The rest of the time (majority) it stalls as soon as it is warmed up. Sent to dealer who charged me 800.00 plus for nothing and it continues to HA HA run like a deere.

I have since spent 1500. on parts to no avail. I have replaced the entire wiring harness and sub harness's, ignitor module 321.00, plugs, fuel line clamps and filter keyswitch and circuit board etc. Now I am trying the fuel pump, carb, governor and voltage regulator.

My mom bought new in 1978 and I inherited a John Deere Riding Mower, 8 hp. It has been rugged and dependable and been to the shop only once in thirty years. Of course I have been very happy with it, and today I happened to scroll onto the long list of angry purchasers of recent John Deer machines. Thank God your website has spared me the grief and frustration of paying top dollar for a piece of new low-class John Deer junk.

L120 tractor purchased at Home Depot and the transmission is failing.  1000 repair for a 2000 tractor

I purchased a John Deer L130 riding mower in late 2005, twice now the front axle split in half starting at a small injection hole in the axle. According to the dealer this has never been a problem with the L130 mower's before, emplying that I must have ran into a house or something to cause the axle to brake. From reading other complaints about the axle it's clearly a manufacturer defect, cast iron crap. A new axle cost me 74.51 each time.

Last year I had to replace the deck because the anker bolts holding on a pully ripped through the deck, clearly my fault I must have ran over a skunk or something. I noticed that the replacement deck had thicker gauge metal than the original. A new deck cost us over 600.00. What ever happened to John Deer's reputation of good quality and taking responsibility for poor workmanship? Now It's always the consumer's fault. I keep a very nice smooth lawn so there is no reason for these problems to occur, it's not like I'm trying to mow over a forest or something.

Over all the mower has cost us more than 700.00 in replacing poor quality materials. John Deer mowers are not worth the price, I should have purchased a cheaper mower, a cheaper mower with the same engine would have been just as good or better.
