John of Burien, WA September 11, 2009 I have their vacuum canister 2-1/4 quart marinator (model #663 molded into the bottom) which is made of clear polycarbonate (there are also colored versions on the market). You can see it here: http://www.foodsaver.com/Product.aspx?id=c&cid=89&pid=259 (though the indicated model number is different, the appearance and description are the same). After little/light usage, it developed stress cracks in the lid/cover at two corners which leak air and make it un-usable. I called them thinking they would replace the cover only to find that they do not warrantee it but would sell me a new one at a reduced price. I didn’t ask the price and said no thanks. I did a web search to see if anyone else has been having this problem and it seems it is a common problem. As an engineer with design knowledge/experience in plastic products, I (and others) believe this is the result of a design and/or manufacturing flaw in the product. Polycarbonate is an extremely strong/durable product (used to make bullet proof glass) and when parts are properly designed with consideration for stresses due to loading (vacuum) and temperature changes, they are extremely robust and should last many years without failing. This product has been on the market for years. FoodSaver has certainly and repeatedly been made aware of the stress cracking problem and has seems to have chosen to ignore it. They need to be taken to task. Advertisement
