GE, Kenmore Recall Microwave Combo Wall Ovens

Robert of Oviedo FL (10/04/08)
GE Spacemaker Model JVM1640WB Serial GZ976432s Popping almost like if metal was left inside with microwave occurred a few months ago, now the microwave doesn't heat. I am sure the heating elemnt is gone on this one too. It was installed with the house about 6-7 years ago.

I purchased a GE Spacemaker microwave oven in 2005. Within 18 months, I experienced the oven shutting off when it was heating on high heat. I thought it was electrical related and validated that there was no problem with the electrical before I placed a service call. The service call was very expensive, I believe 250 and I was told by the repairman that it was due to the fan that was installed at the factory not being glued down properly, thereby not engaging to cool down the unit during heating. He repaired the fan by gluing it and I filed a complaint with GE. They kicked in 75 bucks but required me to pay the remainder of the service fee.

I do not use my microwave very often but was using it this weekend and it failed to heat. I makes a very loud buzzing noise and with the posts I have read here, I am concerned that it may catch fire. I am very dissatisfied, and as one reader posted, this was not a cheap microwave oven. I will not pay to have it fixed. I expect GE to reimburse me for the cost of the appliance and all expenses I have been out of pocket. I will not be purchasing another GE product.

Bought GE microwave oven JVM1653SH in Dec.31,2005, Have same mag.tube problem as everyone else...cuts on, runs 2 seconds, goes to error. Have friend who runs appliance repair business, used to be GE warranty man, diagnosed problem in grocery store!  Said that it is prevalent! I'm just going to another brand and saving my money for a new unit with a new warranty. I'm a contractor and won't be recommending GE in any homes that I build! In my line of work these problems could be catastrofic.

My GE microwave start working and I called GE repairmen. It is going to cost me 99.00 for the service call plus the parts/labor totalling 275.00. I should of dump the mircowave and buy a new one. Here is GE that preaches about six sigma quality all over the world and their products are rated belw average.

We had our second GE spacemaker over the range microwave oven breaking down in less then two years. The problem was defective magnatron tube. Although it was under warranty, we still had to pay 181.54 for labor. Prior to these GE products, we had a GE dishwasher, which required a service call in about 3 years to fix the motor. On the other hand, we have Maytag's laundry washer/dryer for last 15 years working great. I don't think I will ever buy any GE products.
