GE Ice Dispensers Serve Up More Than Ice

Linda of West Bend WI (09/25/08)
I purchased a GE Electric Range Model JBP80W H3WW March, 2007. I used the self cleaning feature for the first time on Sept 21, 2008. The glass in the oven door shattered during the procedure. I called the service department. I gave them all the details of the problem including serial number and details of the broken glass. I had to take a vacation day from work to wait for the service person. When he arrived he did not have the required part and told me that I would have to pay for the part and labor.

I called GE and after much discussion they agreed to send the part no charge but would not waive the labor cost. There are three glass panes in the door. The one that broke was the middle pane. The one sandwiched between the outer and inner pane. This is a part that should never break. The fact that it did during the first use of the self cleaner points to an obvious defect in the product. Again this was the first time I used the self clean feature.

Incredibly GE would not waive the 232 service charge to fix something that is a defect in the product. I was told I was out of luck because I had the misfortune to not run the self cleaning feature a few months earlier during the warranty period. In addition, despite the detail I gave to the service scheduler, the technician arrived without the part. Now I have to take yet more of my valuable vacation time to wait again to get the defective part fixed. GE Cares is their service slogan. Cares about what? Certainly not customer satisfaction or the integrity of their products. I too am a former GE customer.

I purchased my home new in 1997 complete with GE Profile appliances. I have had nothing but trouble with the GE Profile Double Oven since day one. It F2's every time you try to self clean it. It has melted my cabinets.

I live on a street of 11 homes and my neighbors have the same problem. My girlfriend has NOT cleaned her oven in 12 yrs. GE told us that it was NOT their problem but ALL the ovens seem to be defective.......scary that you can't leave the house becasue one must trip the circuit breaker 15-20 min into the cycle. In 11.5 years, I have NEVER been able to self clean the oven. I was reading various posts and am truly amazed that NOTHING has ever been done to resolve the issue.

I bought this oven in 1999 for 850.00. It needed repairs in November of 2006 in the amount of 215.48 and again in July of 2007 for the amount of 65.oo. Now I am having the same problem , beeping and an error message that sometimes stops. When it is beeping, nothing works. I do understand that there is no warantee on this product. Nevertheless, GE should stand behind such a troubled product. Don't know if I should spend more money on repairs, or junk it. I have a total of over 1000.00 in this product. It is used very lightly.

Repairs to the tune of around 285.00 in two years, plus now it won't work.

My stove top has burn marks just under the knobs from the heat from the stove. Also, I used the self-cleaning element and now there are burn marks on the top of the oven door and towards the front of the door. They cannot be removed. The amount of heat causing this could have caused a fire.

Burn marks from heating elements from GE electric range. Has there been any more complaints of this happening? I will be contacting GE about this situation.

Purchased GE Radiant Self Cleaning Electric Range in January of 2005. Heating Sensor went out in September of 2008. Cost of repair is 169.95 for labor by GE technician. Part comes with waranty But if it breaks again, then I get to pay another labor fee. What would be reasonable is for the labor fee to be covered if the part fails again.
