The local GE appliance dealer installed a GE Profile electric stove in the fall of 2006. This past week, while baking a roast, the heating element in the oven exploded and flaming pieces of metal fell from the heating element and, fortunately, landed within the oven compartment. An examination of the element showed that about three inches of it had broken apart and there was metal, that at one point had been molten, despoted on the fractured parts of the element and the element itself near the fractures.

The appliance repairment from Southwest Appliance replaced the element and stated that he had seen this type of failure in several other ovens. The cost of a new element. The labor charge was cut by 50%.

I am emailing you this for my mother. It is her information above. She purchased a GE stove about 2 years ago. She has cleaned the oven a few times in the past 2 yrs. One time she used it, it got so hot that the steam must have leaked out the top of the stove and burnt the underneath of where the knobs to work the stove are that overhangs a little. I think this is a safety hazard and maybe could've started a fire. They said she must have spilled something in the oven and not cleaned it up and thats why is did this. They will not cover the replacements under warranty and she has to pay for parts and repair I think. Have you had any other complaints with GE self cleaning ovens?

The stove has burn marks that cannot be removed and the top would have to be replaced and cost her about 200.dollars for a 450. stove.

The main wiring harness on my GE Profile double wall oven burned and melted. The electronic control panel has been replaced six (6)times. There is something definitely wrong with this oven. A small electronic fire must have caused the melting of wires. My wife smelled something burning, opened the oven door, saw a red glow around the oven, and turned the oven off. It could have burned the house down.

Luckily my wife was near the oven to turn it off. There was no damage to the kitchen cabinets. The only damage is the melted wires and connectors behind the control panel.

The oven of the GE Profile electric range smokes every time I use it. I can't roast a chicken or beef without having the whole place filled with smoke. GE says it's never happened before. Has anyone else had this problem?

I can't use the oven of my new stove
