GE Ice Dispensers Serve Up More Than Ice

Mark of Vancouver Canada (08/21/08)
The oven of the GE Profile electric range smokes every time I use it. I can't roast a chicken or beef without having the whole place filled with smoke. GE says it's never happened before. Has anyone else had this problem?

I can't use the oven of my new stove

Brand new GE cafe range, ref and profile dishwasher installed 6/25/08. The door had a dent, set up appt. for service call, they had to order a new door. Who would guess! Handle for door out of stock so a month later the door was delivered to my house. Had to call to schedule another service call, a week later the new door was installed. The new door looks great, but now the freezer is getting warmer. Call to see if service person could come back before the end of the day--no-- that repair call has been closed they can set up another appt. in a week. Also, one burner on the new range does not function properly the technician worked on it and it still does not work correctly. You guessed it another appt. is needed. In our area they want to schedule appt. from 8 to 5. Does GE think their customers have nothing to do but wait for their repair people?

I have only had these applainces 5 weeks and at this time will say it is the last GE appliances that will be in my house.

At this time do not have a amount. I moved frozen food to a friends freezer. My time, since I can work from home some of the time I guess at this point that is a wash.

Purchsaed a new home in 2004 which came with GE appliances. Electric range model JBP24B0H2CT tripped the 220 breaker while the right rear burner was in use. I went to reset the breaker and noticed a unique pastic/formica burning smell. I pulled the range back and found the metal shield that covers the terminal block which is the connections for the power cord was black and burnt in a small area. After removing the 5 screws that retain the cover the 3 wire junction block was melted and the red colored lead and terminal at the block was burnt beyond recognition.

When I contacted GE and told them the range was 3 years old there response was THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON ANY OF OUR RANGES and WE CAN SCHEDULE A SERVICE CALL TO CHECK IT OUT BUT YOU WILL BE CHARGED being it is out of the 1 YR warranty.

I understand being out of warranty but to claim NO ISSUES with [their] ranges.Thank God the shield was in place or the hole would have been burned into the wall. Cheap, pot metal terminals that should be copper and why the shield if there are NO ISSUES. Perhaps send this link to the G.E CEO and let him read all of these issues as he hums the old tune GE/ WE bring good things to life!

Two nights ago I went to bed with my two small children and my husband. At about 11:30 PM, luckily, I went to my kitchen to get a drink, only to find my GE oven on, hot, even though ALL KNOBS WERE TURNED OFF. Had I not been thirsty at that time, who knows what may have happened....house on fire, children (ages 4 and 6) burned to death. I contacted aprox. 5-6 indiv. at consumer relations and either I was told that no warrenty=nothing they could do, or that they agree with me but=nothing they could do. I got this stove in 2002....no warranty left, but no expectation that a stove would stay on by itself while my family slept either.

I was charged 148.40 for labor when a GE repaireman came. I was told by a supervisor, Mr. Wapps, at GE that, I should be lucky that this is all they were charging. As far as I am concerned, given the possible outcome scenerios that may have occured, Mr. Wapps was NOT giving me any gifts, although he thought he was. In fact, when I asked him if it was reasonable that an oven be on by itself while people slept in their home given the possible scenerios that may occur, Mr. Wapps told me, That is a matter of opinion regarding whether or not that could be dangerous. He ended up hanging up on me...which suprised the repaireman standing in my kitchen who heard the entire call by the way.

The repaireman said a short in the oven coil normally stops the oven from working, but in my case, it stayed on and this is a malfunction he said...a rare occurance he also said. He went on to say maybe he sees one of these a year and even then it is after the oven is 15-20 years old. He agrees with my thoughts as well. I just wrote a 5 page letter to Appliance Headquarters in Kentucky, asking for my 148.40 to be reimbursed at the least, and a new stove (oven) at the most. I do not believe that I should pay ANYTHING to get an oven coil fixed that stayed on by itself...or went on by itself.

I have a 5 year old GE electric smooth top range. I was baking and set the oven on 350 degrees. I was in a different part of the house, and when I cam back 10 minutes later, the oven was on self-clean and the bars I was baking were in flames.

We had to have our kitchen and house cleaned for smoke damage. The stove is destroyed, but I would not trust to have it back in the house.
